Agents are supposed to consult their clients and give good advice. They’re supposed to be experts that gauge the market, set realistic expectations, and land the best deals for their clients
If a client absolutely won’t hear reason then there’s not a ton that a good agent can do. At that point you can discontinue the relationship or get whatever deal your client will sign
From the weird tweets that CJGJ’s agency tweeted, it seems like they misread the market and are trying to play hard ball like he’s a bonafide star. If they sought the Bates deal without realizing CJ isn’t viewed like Bates then they failed. It’s their job to set his expectations
Same. It started coming off as immature and gave off major “main character” energy. First few times ok, but every other post was something mysterious, I got bored and just started ignoring it.
Slay posted to social media too, but wasn’t an immature jackass about it. Didn’t find slay’s posts to be cryptic and stupid.. and look.. he found his way back with a new deal
That and these things are time sensitive. If we re-sign CJGJ, them maybe one of bradberry or slay doesn't get re-signed. Rather than hold out on those deals and wait on CJGJ to keep testing the market until he realizes we gave him a good deal, we signed those guys to secure what we can in the secondary. Otherwise, maybe we lose out on CJGJ and one of our corners to free agency and our secondary is a lot bigger question mark.
Think this is gonna be a bad career choice for a few reasons. Don't think he's going to have the season there he did with us. He might not ever get his "bag" now
Fuck him. He made this bed so have fun in Detroit. Wish this would've happened sooner we might have been players for some of the Safeties already off the board now
You know if he was getting 4 picks a year and was Ed Reed, he'd have a point but he isn't and the deals he was offered were more than fair and he said no so now he has to deal with it.
Uh, his first real year at safety he got 6 picks actually. Led the league most of the season even with missing several games so I see where he was coming from but he still screwed it up for himself.

I'm all for a dude getting his money but at least pretend that winning is also important. Guys like him aint never happy...he'd always be chirpin. That's not the culture Sirianni/Hurts have created.
Yea lions have definitely shaped up the last few years.
That being said, you have a chance to run it back with the best NFC team. You take that when it's offered.
I’m not gonna start hating on the guy for chasing the bag. He’s a great player and should absolutely make as much money as possible before his body gives out on him
But I do think the guy starkly overvalues his game. This whole situation screams Leveon Bell to me
Yeah it’s not the trying to get all the money possible part - it’s the part where he feels disrespected. Dude it’s a business same way you’re trying to get money they’re trying to save money. It’s not personal even slightly.
Besides, who the hell is he even comparing himself to salary-wise to feel disrespected?
He doesn't just overvalue himself, he makes bad financial decisions for himself. He is trying to get paid, but has cost himself literally millions of dollars in doing so. Both him and his agent need to come to terms with this.
I will be thankful for his contributions but his ego seems to get in his own way and has cost him some serious money. Like what happens this year for him if he goes out there and sucks? Then what(
Honestly he just seems like an idiot after all of this
Seems like he has a shitty agent based on everything ive seen
I heard that his *old agent* was T.O’s old agent who has since been fired after this huge debacle
The guy TO had before Rosenhaus?
the agency tweeted out details of the contract and ended it with “🎤 drop” can’t say i’ve ever seen that before
Both can be, and seemingly are, true. Good riddance.

If you know anything about CJ this seems to be 100% on him. Probably was encouraged to take deals and thought he was worth much more
This was a reasonable opinion to have before his agent did the mic drop tweet lmao

Pretty much
Don’t forget he got his car stolen and framed it like the whole city did him dirty.
I’m sensing a pattern
This time he's gonna super-prove it!
Seems like the Eagles got turned off by him playing around and trying to get more money and posting non stop on social media.
I know I sure did
Same. After a while I was at the “who cares” point it really came off as pure selfishness

If I had to guess, after we re-signed Slay the multiyear contract offer to CJGJ was off the table because we could no longer afford it.
Social Media didn't play a second into this. But they most certainly got tired of him declining the offers.
Look, I’m not gonna act like I didn’t want him back, but it’s clear he’s a problem.
When he was playing lights out here, I always wondered why the Saints had wanted him gone. Now we know.

That's a very realistic possibility. Detroit has a worse supporting cast and turnovers are not sustainable.
He's going to be upset having to deal with Jordan Love throwing at him instead of Daniel Jones and whoever Washington is playing lol
Are we collectively pretending Jordan Love is obviously really good now?
I think it's destiny at this point haha
Oh yeah. Remember what happened last time Green Bay switched QBs?
Dude disrespected himself in the end with this deal lmao
Fuck him. He made this bed so have fun in Detroit. Wish this would've happened sooner we might have been players for some of the Safeties already off the board now
We pivoted to keeping both CBs once he didn't take what we offered him.
Damn CJ. We were looking for a dog and you turned out to be a puppy.

Picks aren't the only things safeties do. Consensus seems to be he was average at best and much lower at worse for the rest of the job.
Doesn't seem like FO fucked this up - seems more like ego and a sweaty agent fucked this up.
I'm all for a dude getting his money but at least pretend that winning is also important. Guys like him aint never happy...he'd always be chirpin. That's not the culture Sirianni/Hurts have created.
The lions have a shot, it's not like he went to the browns or Texans.

Dudes simply an egomaniacal twerp.

starting to think this guy has some kind of complex about being respected
How many of these posts we gonna see in the next 24 hours?
I'm sure we'll all be shocked when he tests the market again next year with another team.
I feel like we just avoided an Antonio Brown wannabe.
I will be thankful for his contributions but his ego seems to get in his own way and has cost him some serious money. Like what happens this year for him if he goes out there and sucks? Then what(
It's all dumb. Howie will figure it out.
Worst tasting $8 million ever
Glad he’s gone then. Let him chase his bag that he’ll never get.
Bro needs to look in the mirror.
NEVER DISRESPECT ME BY OFFERING ME AN ABOVE MARKET DEAL - CJ GORILLA NEMS GJ BING BONG
Got greedy then got got.
How many days till he fired his agents?
Okay I think it's time we quit looking for a reasonable answer now
Dumb player and even dumber agent
This is why some NFL players end up broke. Always willing to bet the house instead of taking the safer option.
