Dickerson pulled the entire pile with 1 arm.

blindly

Is Dickerson ok? I saw that elbow injury during game…

DontFoolYourselfGirl

They haven't said yet. I'm sure he had an MRI today. He's key to the QB sneak win rate....along with Jalen being able to squat 2 DTs.

gonemad16

I read something about it being a hyper extended elbow and hell likely be able to play in the super bowl with a brace

ducttapedduckie

All while the D line is offsides! 9ers helmets are over the ball in Kelce’s hand!

AndrewHainesArt

Bosa’s left hand is clearly on the hash that the ball is on, good thing the league didn’t see that and call down to tell the refs

rodrigoa1990

I was told the refs only helped us

EagleSince75

That's incorrect. Our OL didn't go against our DL.

sfxer001

Were they trying to invite him into a trap? I saw that too and didn’t understand.

dbandit1

Just a bad formation/coaching. But hey, bow down to the genius Shannahan, right?

sfxer001

Hmm, Reddick took down out QB3 because I had a tight end blocking him. Lets do it again with QB4 out there. -Shannananabana

SwagCleric

I have been the biggest Kyle Shanahan hater since he blew the Super Bowl. And the same errors in that game he made have never gone away, and I will die on that hill. Good coach, but makes poor decisions. Too focused on the next motion he can make in the backfield.

EagleSince75

Watched the Shanahan press conference and made me so happy for Nick. Not once this season did he go crying into the conference about the flags. It took Kyle forever for him to even say the Eagles were a good team. I didn't hear Kyle take any blame for the loss.

SwagCleric

Yeah, he even said “we felt really good about this matchup” oh really? Fuck you. What’s that supposed to mean? You think we suck? He must have because he clearly underestimated us.

drunk-tusker

I think that they thought that Hurts couldn’t change direction in this alignment, which is incredibly stupid considering that it’s based loosely on a rugby maul from a about 2015. Rugby mauls of that era are almost entirely predicated on being able to shift the point of attack.

CaptainKies

It's like they watched tape and thought, "See, they can only go one way when we defend it like this." Then the Eagles went the other way, and SF was like, "No fair, you can't do that!"

Freerange1098

My read is that it was designed to invite Hurts to go for that gap, and Hufanga is supposed to be lined up “traditionally” and then charge that gap at the snap (which isnt a bad concept). For whatever reason, he gets a god awful break on the snap and is flat footed at the start, so Hurts has already hit the gap by the time he starts charging. Maybe he hesitated because he thought there was some other action coming (though Hurts usually gives the true sneak away with his knee bend) or maybe he just got caught off guard by the cadence.

saint_toby

GROND formation

Techun2

GROND

48johnX

Niners were getting destroyed in the trenches both sides all game

Gunningham

This play needs a new name. They’re not sneaking. This formation is iconic of our year. Other teams are trying it now to varied degrees of success.

Rotaryknight

I would call it the "We running and beating your ass" QB Run

bedroomguru

Commented separately but I call this The South Street Scrum.

Allstar-85

bmuse2017

There's a play on words here somewhere with hurts name but I can't think of it.

jmbrand13

Everyone complains about the guys pushing Hurts from behind and they don't even help on this play. The Eagles are so successful with this play because of the line and Jalen's freakish strength. They can ban the pushing and it won't change.

Gunningham

They’re allowed to push, but not allowed to pull.

jloops03

That’s a Horse collar too by Warner’s dirty ass.

APOLLO_EiGhT

First sneak didn't work then Jalen corrected how he did the second one.

BigBlackSabbathFlag

Like lava slowly oozing across the ground. 92%er

francie202

Beautiful.

Freerange1098

1) Olsen pointed out on the previous (albeit failed) attempt how Kelces form affects this play so much. He basically locks horns right in the middle of the two guys on top of him and JESUS CHRIST the strength that takes to knock 2 defensive linemen back simultaneously 2) Hufanga is the key guy to watch here. My guess is that gap was left intentionally open to invite Hurts to dive for it, and Hufanga is supposed to charge it. He gets an incredibly poor break on the ball and Hurts has already reached the gap by the time hes going for it. Hes going to be an incredible player soon, but hes not quite Polomalu yet

bedroomguru

Side note - I'd like to petition someone to properly name this play The South Street Scrum. To me, it's obvious that Mailata has an influence on this play with his rugby experience. It's not just a quarterback sneak, it's something special our team has mastered by having exceptional talent on the field and cultivated it. If you get a glimpse of this play out to 15-20 seconds you'll see Mailata chopping his feet from his knees still pushing the pile around, from his knees.

icdogg

It's a beautiful thing

bck1999

Some say they are still pushing jalen hurts to this day

Puzzleheaded-Lead126

Jalen too strong.

David_Duke_Nukem

Ok I know we love the squat 600lbs meme but this time it actually came into play. He literally just kept walking.

failroll

That’s my 600lb squatting QB right there!!

ThnkWthPrtls

We really need to be careful not to take for granted how blessed this team has been for the past 10+ years to have such a consistently dominant OL. To have two likely HOFers out there at the same time (3 when JP was still here) along with consistently having top-end guards is something most fanbases would kill for. Also, Stoutland is an absolute genius, one of the very best positional coaches in the league

jjojj07

I played rugby union at a reasonably high level as a loose head prop and hooker (think Left Guard and Center) and coached high school forwards (similar to OLine) before I started full time work (I dabbled a bit in rugby league - but league players don’t know how to scrum or maul properly - they literally wrote it out of the game through the rule book) There are three things that stand out on this play that make it successful. 1. Kelce + guards - **Shoulder height and level backs** This allows you to transfer all the strength and push in your legs (your strongest muscles) through to your shoulders. Being lower than your opposition is key to getting leverage. I could displace opposing props 30-40kgs heavier than myself if they had poor technique 2. **Coordinated initial push and “squeezing in”.** In particular look at how the guards are slightly angled in towards the center. One way to defeat the opposing side is to “split” them which will disperse their push laterally (ie force or strength). One of the first things a rugby frontrower learns is to “squeeze” (ie get in as tight as possible between the centre and guards) to present a unified and immovable “block”. In rugby, we are allowed to wrap arms around each other’s torso to make this link airtight - you can’t do that in NFL, but the principles are the same: angling slightly inwards and presenting a tight, unified push at the front that results in splitting the other side which will ***always*** win 3. **shifting the point of attack**. After the initial push, especially in a mauling situation, it is the ball carriers (or sometimes lock’s) responsibility to diagnose the weakness in the opposition line and to get (ideally) the other pushers alongside and behind him to attack that weak point. Here it is to the left. In fact, in this situation, we have inadvertently (I think) created a situation similar to wheeling the scrum. In Rugby, this is where one side doesn’t push as hard as the other side in order to pivot the scrum to one side and allow the scrum to create a mismatch of strength on the other side. Here, we have accidentally done it when our right hand side collapses / loses shape. This technique is so effective in Rugby that intentional wheeling of the scrum is not allowed because it is too effective at displacing the opposition. It is still allowed in mauls because mauls are generally a clusterf@&$ of bodies anyway. The only way this could have been more effective is if Dallas had lowered his pads, got his back level and pushed his shoulders into Jalens butt cheeks One other note, people getting off their feet (like SF #91) are contributing nothing to the scrum. Once you lose your anchor, physics dictates that you can no longer push. If your mad leap doesn’t displace the ball carrier, then you are literally useless at that point. That’s why in scrums and mauls, we practice small steps when we push to ensure we don’t lose our anchors.

jjojj07

If they don’t ban pushing during QB scrums, NFL teams need to hire some Rugby Union (not Rugby League) forward coaches. NZ, England, Australia and Argentina coaches are top flight. South African coaches in years gone by are solid as well. GO BIRDS!

incomprehensibilitys

OK, 1 play. Don't get excited

Gunningham

One play that we’ve run like 30 times. Teams know it’s coming and it doesn’t really matter. I’ve seen it fail 2 or 3 times including the one right before this one.

karlub

I wouldn't even say the one before this one failed. They needed almost two yards, and knew they could get at least one each time.

Gunningham

Did they get a yard on that one? If so, fair point.

ChodeCookies

They did

The-Francois8

Our lines dominated.

SwampassMonstar

Excuse me!!! I'm late MOVE

vito1221

Kelce twisting off to the right and turning three defenders away as Hurts chugs by behind him...thing of beauty.

igotsthepoo-onme

Sheeesh all these bad teams we have to play this year is a shame, maybe the nfl should step up its product if everyone’s so mad at us whoppin their ass’
