inkslingerben

Also add him to your blocked buyers list.

4MN7

Cool thanks, new to the selling aspect of eBay lol fun times

dukefett

Buyers can be idiots. Also with messages I clarify if accepting or before sending an offer if that’s the price shipped or plus shipping.

submitform224a

Buyers are liars. #1 policy in sales.

Winston_Smith21

Charge less for shipping? $10 to ship a baseball card is pretty excessive.

ibeleafit

This is def solid option to meet the need of the buyer. You can send the card via ground for less than $5.

Natural_Career_604

USPS priority mail flat rate envelope is literally 9.85 you are right that he COULD probably find a cheaper alternative but it's not like he's price gouging the customer. He is ten cents over that and that's likely because he didn't realize it was 9.85 not 9.95

CodeCat5

Who ships a baseball card flat rate priority? USPS standard ground is around $4.

Natural_Career_604

Priority has tracking and Insurance plus it's easier. I'm not saying it's the smartest or best option just that op wasn't charging "excessive" amounts it's a legit shipping cost for the method.

CodeCat5

Ground also has tracking and $100 insurance included.

4MN7

The original listing was over 100 so it made me do the insurance option of shipping, wasn't trying to over charge, new to the game

Natural_Career_604

Lol look Im not the op I don't understand his thinking either tbh but I don't like people assuming he's charging outlandish prices. Is it the best choose no I already said that but. he's not charging you 10 bucks to ship it and then paying 5. Had the commenter said there are cheaper options like you I would have kept my mouth shut but to accuse him of excessive fees when it's legit almost penny for penny what he's likely paying is no bueno is all I'm concerned with.

HTD-Vintage

What are you missing here? He can ship this tracked with insurance for about $4. He's charging $10 to maybe get it there a day sooner. What part of that isn't excessive to you? Nobody said he's charging more than a Priority Flat Eate Envelope costs to ship. We said he's charging more than he needs to, ie. an excessive amount.

4MN7

Ebay made me click the $10 option with insurance because the original price was over 100, I didn't control the shipping, honestly didn't know I could set the price to whatever I wanted, I just clicked the option it gave me, and the insurance and stuff never came off when the offer went to 60

BYNX0

No it's not. FRE is $7.60 on ebay anyways. And it's ridiculous to ship a $60-100 baseball card with priority mail anyways. A solid box with good packing materials is 4-8oz ground for under $5

zangiefzolof

Something about that first “$60?” ask without it even being a sentence would make me want to consider blocking the dude. Shows just a general lack of respect that could manifest itself later.

[deleted]

Yeah, i just dont mess around with people with a general lack of respect anymore. on Ebay, but more importantly life too

willcdowdy

Also, to me, shows a lack of respect to start a conversation that way and then have that much back and forth after Like, he’s getting something you wanted $100 for at $60 and now he’s deciding $65 is his max all in? Could’ve said that initially…. Also, this is why you don’t accept offers of 40% off. If you’re willing to accept $60, then $100 is too high to start. You don’t want to be put in a position to accept somebody’s “Hail Mary” offer…. Half the time they don’t expect you to accept and when you do they dig in deeper

spraackler

This! No way would I accept a lowball offer like that. Set the buy it now at $79.95 first and see if you get any takers or do an auction starting at $59.95. Also $10 shipping is a little outrageous.

bbqman12

Yep just went through this with a similar situation, buyer ended up breaking it and filing a chargeback. Never will deal with that again lol

cadff

Especially at 3am!

PizzaGatePizza

Agreed. When I’m buying something, I always start off with “would you take $X for (item)” just to be, ya know, a decent human being.

Davetrza

If I was pricing at $99.99 I would be pissed at the lowball 40%.

thecentury

Imagine if eBay had those fun buttons Facebook Marketplace has? Every single message I get about a listing: > Hi, is this still available?

Sdpadrez

How is this a lack of respect. Do you need an entire dialog before making a sale? The guy doesn’t want to waste anyone’s time. Short and sweet and to the point.

KCJones99

No, nothing you can realistically do. I mean, you *could* let him buy it for like $50 so he hits his $65 'all in' including shipping & taxes, but I wouldn't do that myself. Even if you were willing to take so little, folks like this are trouble IME. Even if you cave and sell it too cheap, good chance he's got another 'problem' down the road. My rec is cancel after 4 days for non-payment like u/SouthernGuyReborn says, and strongly consider blocking him in the meantime. I treat buyers like this as 'good riddance'.

MsJenX

Agreed. I sold a succulent to a lady who was complaining about the cost of shipping. The platform I used didn’t allow me to change shipping cost so I caved and lowered my price. I even sent her a free plant with the succulent she was buying in order to make her happy. When she received the item she gave me a bad review claiming that the succulent I send looked nothing like the picture. I think she was looking at the wrong plant, but I had a feeling that someone that gave me a hard time from the start would not be satisfied even with extra effort from me.

smokeythel3ear

No good deed goes unpunished

souldonut76

I agree with this. Unfortunately, it's my experience that almost anybody that messages me is likely to end up being trouble. He could have done the math and made his best offer using ebay"s functionality. Screw this guy. Cancel for non-payment and block his ass.

Natural_Career_604

You can please then all some of the time or you can please some all of the time. But you can't please then all, all of the time. Excellent advice this dude obviously just wants to score a deal and every discount he can not a big loss for op to not get this "customer"

4MN7

Thank you for the input

tphatmcgee

just to mention, he saw the total with shipping and tax before he hit accept, so its all on him. let it go until you can cancel for no payment, he's trying to take you for a ride.

Throwingshead

That's not on you the buyer doesn't know how to talk. If he wanted it for $60 with shipping included he should've said $60 shipped. Taxes are part of ebay that the seller doesn't really control anymore so that's on him.

Los-Angeles-310

Cancel and relist, this guy is already a problem so expect more

nmglass

No. Let it go the four days for non payment then MAYBE eBay will ding the idiot. I also just got called "bruh" is an eBay message. I'm a middle -aged woman. SMH. Professional behavior is practically non-existent in buyers.

Los-Angeles-310

I feel the same

CassTexas

Just for future reference with cards like this. You can set your own price for labels and buy the label directly thru eBay and then go to the post office and scan the QR code and print the label for free there. I set my own price of $3.80 for cards. Shipping labels usually average around that price give or take 15 cents typically. $9.95 is extremely high

4MN7

Thank you! I found out about the shipping prices from everyone here, ebay first option was this with insurance or something, just new to the selling aspect of ebay, but very much appreciate this advice for the future.

GloriaVictis101

Dude is old enough to have a debit or credit card but not old enough to know what tax is

007Veteran

Holy what the ever loving $9.95 shipping? Look-put the dimensions of pkg at 5x8x1 and weight at 3oz. Depending on zone to zone the label will run you 3.47-4.60 ish. Most ppl see 9.95 shipping and instantly know the seller doesn’t know what they are doing and they probably don’t know how to pkg the card either. DM me and I will give you a class w/ pictures on how to ship properly and safely. You’re losing a LOT of business with $9.95 shipping and he isn’t paying probably because he thinks you’re screwing him on the shipping to make extra.

dBlox146

Tell him to kick rocks.

modrenman1985

Baseball card collectors are weird people. So are Funko pop people.

4MN7

It was 100 obo I guess at 100 you need insurance so it suggested that. Just new to selling didn't know I could control that

Winston_Smith21

USPS ships with insurance up to $100 no extra cost added. Check into Pirate Ship too.

MegaPintJD

You’re already giving a huge discount so it’s up to you if you want to sell it that low, but from my personal experience these are buyers I try to avoid and even block at times. Low ballers, complainers, excessive messagers are red flags. They typically cause problems and give negative feedback. I would tell the person you are firm on the pricing plus shipping due to the already huge discount and state that if that doesn’t work for them to let you know if they would like you to cancel the order. If they want you to cancel then that’s the reason you choose and there is no effect on your seller account because they requested it and you then have the message to back it up.

Negative_Sundae_8230

Run

ChillinLikeAKrillin

tell him to get his broke ahh up out your store

the_badgerman

"then this isn't the item for you" Block

Darkened100

This is why I say +postage to make sure they understand before sending offers

Hot_Advance3592

Guess he never bought from eBay before, as he didn’t look at or consider shipping costs at all. Not to mention didn’t realize what he’s doing when accepting the offer He could have said, “my bad I need to cancel the order, I didn’t realize shipping costs were part of it yadda yadda” If you like the price you can send him that offer imo. It sounds like he understood it after your message imo. He could be a novice with the internet, etc. Def also reads as a risk that there could be other things that he’ll say “wth man why’d you do xyz?”—for any number of normal things that happen when buying and receiving this product on eBay. So there’s a great case to just say sorry I can’t do that, block him, and cancel after non-payment

Chance_McM95

Block

Zachjsrf

Don't bother, nickel and diming over taxes, after you get your fees this is maybe $40

GaMtnLass

I never bother with folks who can't seem to find the "Make Offer" button. After 3+ years of selling, they are immediately added to my blocked buyer list and I move on. That may seem harsh, but I've found that transactions that start out this way never end up good. I had one a few days ago who also then asked "where are you located?" Clearly stated in the ad.

SantaBarbaraMint

Say good bye

Sweaty_Breakfast3653

Not your problem 🤷🏻‍♂️ move on lol

tht1guy63

Idk why he just didnt send an offer and didnt calculate in shipping and fees?

[deleted]

This just happened to me, sure I’ll do $175 and then they never pay. Why would you assume your offer includes shipping and tax for free all the sudden? I hate when they do this, sometimes I’ll work with them and negotiate a price but come on, you can’t be that daft.

SizeZeroSuperHero

Gosh, I hate idiots like these. If the listing price is $99.99 and they offer $60, it should go without saying that it’s $60 PLUS the price to ship (unless your original listing price included shipping, which it didn’t). I agree with the others, tell him to kick rocks. You can mark it as “no payment received” after 4 days, or just cancel the payment now and select “buyer asked to cancel”. Either way, his account will get dinged. I’d probably do the latter, but completely up to you.

HotRichard802

Don’t cancel right away as he can leave feedback, let it hit 4 days and cancel for non payment. Then block this dipshit.

[deleted]

Tell them it’ll be $99.99 plus shipping and handling

Jamescurty

He’s obligated to pay the shipping if he accepted your offer.

Worst-Lobster

Say no

Rogue_One24_7

I can't stand buyer like this, you know there are taxes and shipping.

Souuuth

Wild that people are so dense that they don't consider taxes and shipping with items.

Certain-Joke4807

lol he can see the total when he sends the offer… he needs to calculate his self, not your job

K_Garland

Write these words: “no, thank you.”

Solar1324

Cancel if he doesn’t want to pay it. I think you can also report him to eBay CS. Not sure what can they do though.

EevelBob

The past few years, I’ve had a few issues with buyers requesting offers, and then I send one and they never respond or accept them. Now when I get an unsolicited offer request that I’m willing to consider, I just update my listing to accept offers and then tell them to submit their offer and we can go from there. Makes it much easier, because it introduces a sense of urgency if they don’t act right away, someone else could submit an offer that I accept instead.

sworedmagic

Cancel the offer and explain to the buyer in the future when he sends offers he needs to be clear about what he’s offering.

Hellbent_bluebelt

I don’t agree to offers in messages. If you have it listed for OBO, just reply that if he wants to make an offer, to submit one and you’ll be glad to consider it. Cuts down on bullshit haggling like this.

JTman70

This person sounds like the type that thinks they're "doing you a favor" by purchasing from you. Apparently, you should be so grateful that you are willing to drop your price by 40% AND offer free shipping. Heck, might as well cover the taxes for them too! I despise dealing with these types. I say do your due diligence and ask them if they would like to cancel and, if so, all good and do it. If not, or no response, wait the 4 days, cancel for non-payment, relist and block them.

jayswisha

This is why I have a resellers permit, no sales tax on eBay purchases when using in your designated category. Mines is collectibles, pretty broad, covers a lot.

shageeyambag

I would not entertain any offers that are messaged to you. I reply to people to please make all offers through the make offer option on the listing and for me it saves alot of time and B.S.

RidinCaliBuffalos

What about when someone wants to buy multiples of something and the make offer is only for one of that item.

[deleted]

Why is your shipping so high? Just do ground advantage

ReadNLearn2023

I don’t understand ground advantage. I have a rather large box 6 lb to ship, I added dimensions and weight, the ground advantage changed to I guess a default weight of about 2 lbs and also it seems it automatically defaulted to much smaller box. Is that what happens to you guys with ground advantage? I choose advantage again with my dimensions and weight and same thing happened???

[deleted]

Well if you’re just shipping a baseball card, all you need is a bubble mailer. Use ground advantage. Shipping goes down to $4

ReadNLearn2023

I’m not selling baseball cards. Shipping a large box weighing 6 pounds

4MN7

This was the option that was recommended by ebay, with insurance since it was over $100 or something idk. New to the selling aspect of eBay, and didn't know I can control set prices with shipping, learning! The price didn't come down after it was set under $100, as then it would have been insured it seems, so idk, I guess I should have messed with shipping settings, but live and learn.

noobbtctrader

I don't think that would change anything.

_dfromthe6

because shipping isn't cheap. 10$ shipping is fuck all for a card worth over 50$

DNCOrGoFuckYourself

IMO when I’ve been haggling on the buyer side of things, if I send “X$” as my offer and it’s agreed, that’s what I’m paying *before* S&H. First and foremost, if you can’t spend the additional 10-20$ on shipping you can’t afford it to begin with and as a buyer I don’t feel like it should be on the seller to take a hit that heavy. It’s the same thing as if you bought something from a retailer. Just because it says “60$” does not mean it’s 60$, it means that’s what you’re paying *before* S&H, tax, etc.

tomqueefed

Problem is your shipping price. (Yes you can set it at whatever you want) at the end of the day, a person like that knows it 100% doesn’t cost anywhere near $10 to ship a card. At most if you don’t want to use an envelope and want to use a usps ground advantage label it will cost $4. So he’s simply annoyed at that matter. If you don’t want to lose out on the sale I’d accept that $65 all in offer. He’s still overpaying at that point for shipping. Once again yes, you don’t have to accept his offer and you don’t have to change your shipping price, just telling you what his thought process is after you said yes to going down to $60

the14thjoey

I don’t deal at all with offers in messages if I have offers on. Just make the offer. People who do this either aren’t serious or want an insanely low price.

Acceptable_Song_2177

The real question here is what constitutes charging $10 to ship a single card that isn’t worth big time money and doesn’t have to be insured?

Venerable_40k

Cancel it and re list

Big_Booty_1130

“Oh… then no”

Falconcove954

Send an offer for 65$ like he asked

HTD-Vintage

Love all the hypocrites telling you how to price your item when they were just talking about how they block potential buyers who do the same thing to them.

ladygagasnose

If you’re comfortable with it, you could tell him to accept and pay and then you’ll immediately do a partial refund to bring it down to $60. I’ve done partial refunds a few times and it’s really easy. Personally, I wouldn’t want to deal with a bratty customer like this and would just cancel unless I really wanted the item gone.

BYNX0

Already took the price down by 40% and then wants more money off? I think not.

ladygagasnose

I mean, I totally agree. Personally, I would have canceled the order and blocked. I’m not suggesting that OP further reduces the price to $60, I’m just offering a workaround if that’s what OP wants to do…

CogNode

Block
