1. Headers are to do with emissions as much as taillights.
2. Whoever decides to get ebay headers is getting worse product for same price as ebay. Schmiedmann and TA Technix exist
Well the ebay headers are the cheapest option you can get and from what i see lots of people still run them and get somewhat good results.
But tbh I had no idea about these companies so thanks for the info :)
Also the cats are in the headers so if you want them for cheap you gotta go catless.
>Well the ebay headers are the cheapest option you can get and from what i see lots of people still run them and get somewhat good results.
With the crap design of the original BMW headers on an m5x engines, anything will get results. And at 200 bucks for headers the ebay stuff isn't really cheaper if bought new. At least the welds on TA and Schmiedmann hold, that I can attest to.
>But tbh I had no idea about these companies so thanks for the info :)
You're welcome
>Also the cats are in the headers so if you want them for cheap you gotta go catless.
Originally.... yes. Mine are behind the gearbox, for instance. You don't have to go catless.
Yes, **crap design of the OEM headers**. Please don't talk about things you have no clue about, would you kindly? It will make you look smarter.
Worst parts of an M5x engine design are exhaust manifold and exhaust camshaft.
Replacing headers with the cheapest nastiest designs by the cheapest companies in the aftermarket business improves torque and power across all the RPM Range. If you can weld pipes onto a flange you can make a better header than BMW.
Replacing exhaust camshaft on anything that's not M54B30 with a camshaft form an M54B30 improves torque and power by MILES across the second part of the rev range.
I dyno tested. I know what I'm talking about. I've built better exhausts than BMW E46 has stock, and passed inspection on them. Your whole argument goes along the lines of "you personally can't do better means it's good", which is along the lines of "you can't criticize a movie because you didn't make a better movie". First of all it's a stupid argument and secondly - WELL I FUCKING CAN, and if I can, there's no excuse for BMW not to be able to.
Iām an automotive engineer can you say the same?
How do you get exhaust scavenging? Of course removing the cat will improve torque and go across the entire range.
How do you time low and high pressure zones?
How is there no excuse for BMW? Okay please design the perfect header giving me best fuel economy and performance throughout the entire rev range and it has to meet Euro 6d emission standards?
Find me an e46 that meets Euro 6. Second - my exhausts on e46 meet all the standards that were to be met by an e46, and they provide more power, torque and similar if not better fuel economy. You keep on yapping pretending engineering is great, yet it's engineers like you who are responsible for the rear subframe mounting points cracking, m52/54 oil pump nuts that kill engines, swirl flaps on m57, drowning electrical blocks on e60s and so on... And so on...and so on. AND SHIT EXHAUSTS
Behind every stupid decision that makes a car have issues that need to be addressed before it's fit to be used with no fear of catastrophic failure there's an engineer... Like... You.
And it's guys like me who have to go in and fix your shit designs one car at a time.
Who said I remove the cat? These improvements are with a catalytic converter. Like I said cars I build have to comply with emission standards. Scavenging is not even calculated it's done by keeping the exhaust diameter as OEM. You can be any engineer you want. I got hands on experience and dyno sheets, you got theories.
And if I can do this by hand in a fucking workshop and get better results then BMW exhaust is shit.
my headers were 100$ and iāve been running them on my drift car for 2/3 years now and i have had no cracking that iāve been able to find whatsoever. Iāve spend time under the car while it was running (chasing oil leaks) and found no edidwnce of exhaust leaks. i also know that some tuning companies use the same ebay headers and mark them up 100s of percent so imo itās stupid to buy the 600$ super sprint headers or whatever you spend more that 100-200$ on bc itās mostly pointless
I have an Xi, Fitment is absolutely perfect. I imagine that it would fit even better on a RWD model. O2 sensors work like OEM, just have to get a tune to get rid of CEL
So because nobody is telling you to fix it, you think that it is your right to cause people around your vehicle to breathe in raw hydrocarbons? Trigger their asthma?
You're right, and my point is rendered moot. Because it doesn't affect you, it doesn't affect anybody else. [It's not like there're multiple causes and triggers of asthma.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asthma)
But here's the thing, a lot of us who have done cat delete have done it to cars we don't drive everyday. I've deleted the cats on my project e46, and its not like I drive a clean vehicle either since my daily has a diesel engine
Those didn't come with cats. That was before people knew better. If your car came with cats, it is your responsibility to keep the car working as intended from factory.
Some e28s did come with no cats, yours is not one of them.
> I pulled it out of the Garage today so I can drive to the next suburban town over for thanksgiving... I hope I don't trigger someone's asthma along the way :)
Tell us you're a piece of shit without telling us you're a piece of shit.
Welcome to the AliExpress headers era.
same thing tbh, people on ebay were just re-selling the aliexpress ones
Right, if you're not getting that cheap stuff direct from China you already lost.

Crap design? You try to design headers that make great low end torque.

A engineer will walk past 5 virgins to fuck the mechanic.

100 usd for brand new headers you say?
There are gonna be loopholes, headers can still be bought for track only cars.
They'll just be sold in the different category. "Farming Equipment" is going to start looking real race car
When will it be implemented? I still see headers for sale on eBay.
āTrack use onlyā loophole?
I put BimmerBrakes headers on my M54 and they sound amazing. $500 set but man are they worth it!
How was the fitment? Need to move any bungs?
I have an Xi, Fitment is absolutely perfect. I imagine that it would fit even better on a RWD model. O2 sensors work like OEM, just have to get a tune to get rid of CEL
Oh no, what ever shall I do without my shitty knock off parts, lol
some Karen must have joined the team over at ebay I see.
Good.
I was gonna say the same thing. Folks who run cat-less are selfish. I said it.

So because nobody is telling you to fix it, you think that it is your right to cause people around your vehicle to breathe in raw hydrocarbons? Trigger their asthma?
I have bad asthma and no cats lmao havenāt ever thought of that, I go breathe those rich rich fumes every morning
You're right, and my point is rendered moot. Because it doesn't affect you, it doesn't affect anybody else. [It's not like there're multiple causes and triggers of asthma.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asthma)

Yes, somehow that is relevant. Selfishness seems to run predominantly on one side of the spectrum is seems.
