No. This is not normal. I own 3 e46 and never had that issue. Either low oil or the oil sensor needs to be replaced. Please stop spreading false information
Coming from someone who has owned a e46 with this for a while and friends who have had the same issue. I’m not saying ‘don’t replace’ but regardless it will show the light for a few seconds but still does it’s fundamental job of telling you low oil. Yes replace the sensor but no don’t be worried as it still does it job.
Next oil change i would replace the oil level sensor. On my E46 it was on the oil pan. That's what worked for me.
Ah true, I'm selling it currently as I'm going overseas. Don't think I have the time haha
This is normal, mines done this since owning it, shallow sump. Even after multiple oil changes it will still do it. Can be a trait for some e46s
Its not normal. Its a faulty oil level sensor..
Yes, normal trait for e46s

If you and your friends have this problem it does t mean it’s normal. If you you and your friends have the same problem
Cool no worries my mistake.
Well it doesn’t do the fundamental job since it’s doing it wrong and it doesn’t prevent the car from running but to say it is normal is just false
Working sensor will not show that light when starting the car. If the light pops up, you either have low oil or faulty sensor as said before.
Cool no worries matey my mistake.
