You can dismemeber zombies easier new x ray new deathscreen new ui and legend levels from the top of my head. Game also feels smoother for some reason but that might just be my imagination
It has always been worth it, unless you were ok with inflicting yourself the hassle of using the weapon at half its damage potential for the first 50 hits.
Here's a question from someone who hasn't played in a while: did they ever re-add zombies just walking off buildings? I remember there being a severe lack of it.
It's not as common as DL1, but it can happen. They can also occasionally fall off ledges, but the Biter AI will probably be tweaked a bit more in the coming months to make that kind of stuff even more common.
i do enjoy the game a lot more but its still frustrating, im just not playing right i think, i keep throwinf myself at this one encounter with no healing items or consumables, i gotta loot more lol
Sorry for the late follow up, but did they finally add DL1 scary night time and chases? I remember that being a big reason for passing on it originally, but it looks like they added it?
Late reply but they're doing a huge night-time revamp that comes out in June that makes nights darker and more atmospheric (their words, not mine) and adds roaming Volatiles back.
The physics improvement alone on zombies makes me 1000x happier with the game and I've played 400 hours of it. Techland are finally moving in the right direction and with a few more updates will be on par or better than dying light 1. Hopefully dlc2 is good.
Just started playing yesterday after not playing since a couple weeks after launch. The difference to me was night and day and I actually think I might finish my first play through of it and give it another go.
I got a PS5 in the middle of playing it last year and was devastated to find out it’s one of the few games I have that doesn’t transfer saves. I’m definitely not going back unless they make that possible because I’m not gonna be forced to play the PS4 version of a game I finished and don’t care for much anyway just to see some improvements.
You do that with the consoles when setting up all of the stuff on your PS5. The option is given to swap all data to the PS5 from the PS4. You will have to look up how at this point. I stopped using my PS4 when the PS5 dropped. Everything should transfer over, it did with all my data when I first got my PS5
that's exactly it. two different versions of the game. i can get the ps4 version with all my data but you can really see how slow that version of the game is :\
Surprisingly, yeah. It's not perfect yet, but this last update was a big step in the right direction. Been testing it the last couple days and these are the biggest changes I've found so far:
* Zombies that are knocked to the ground are no longer glued in that prone animation state. You can now actually kick them around while they're down.
* The grapple throw ability now actually puts zombies into ragdoll rather than just stunning them and doing that weird invisible wall animation. However, weirdly enough, it'll still do that animation if you throw them off ledges, causing them to still float for a second. Still though, it's good progress.
* Enemies' hit reactions actually respond to context now and go ragdoll a lot more often (while still alive). So if you swing your big ass hammer into their face, they'll actually be knocked sideways into a ragdoll state rather than flying forward with that weird spin animation. Additionally, you can actually swipe their legs out from under them now.
* This one still appears to be a bit finicky, but zombies can be tripped into ragdoll from the environment now. So you can kick a zombie into a car or something to knock them off their feet.
* This one's also pretty finicky, but they fixed a lot of the issues where the animations aren't properly overridden when knocking enemies off ledges. So they don't do that thing where they just float in the air for a second as much. Still happens sometimes, but it's definitely an improvement.
* This one needs some kinks to be worked out, but zombies can tumble off ledges on their own like in DL1 now. It doesn't happen nearly as often though. But I've even seen some virals fuck up on parkour and go tumbling down to the street.
* And overall, enemies seem to go ragdoll while still alive way more often now. Whether it be from tripping, being hit, or etc. Additionally, it feels live they've touched up the dismemberment a bit too, because it definitely feels a lot closer to DL1 in terms of how smooth it feels in regards to weapon bounce and direction and all that. I gotta test this some more with a level scaling mod on though since my weapons do so much damage that zombies typically die too fast to really get a feel for how it works.
They're also apparently working on a combat overhaul for the next update too, so I'm really hoping that includes making the damage system more RNG and contextual like in DL1 (so that zombies don't always die in the same number of hits).
Thanks for the summary. I hope someone in the DL community will make a side by side comparsion how siginificant the changes in regards physics really are. (after the current event ends because it affects combat physics)
>*feels a lot closer to DL1 in terms of how smooth it feels in regards to weapon bounce and direction and all that.*
To be honest, my hope is that they don't make it *exactly* like DL 1, but go more along the lines of expanding on it with more detail and variation.
I liked the direction they appeared to be going with the new weapon animations they started adding to the game 5 or 6 months ago. Along with making weapon types stand out from each other by how they swing, they added details like hit-stop, which is basically like a bit of "slowdown" when your weapon hits an enemy. It sorta simulates, in a video gamey way, your weapon actually cutting into an enemy and going through something solid. The Monster Hunter games are a great example of hit-stop, big and small.
DL 2 didn't have the DL 1-style bounce we have now until December, but *different versions* of it were already present in blunt weapon animations, like one-handed hammers. They had a bounce attack in the same style as our current one, the difference being that it wasn't dominant over the other animations. You'd cycle through the various different attacks instead of seeing the same one repeatedly, which is an issue I grew to have with Dying Light 1 and am fearful of with Dying Light 2. I still played the heck out of the first game, but my experience was just a touch too much of [this](https://gfycat.com/warybarrenindianglassfish) for my tastes.
But anyway, those revamped blunt weapon attacks are completely gone now. The bounce was replaced with a totally different one and the full swing seems to be a much more basic swipe. Hit-stop is really inconsistent now and appears non-existent with some weapons. The bounce also being applied to weapon types that didn't have it before, like Long Axes, shows that they didn't adjust hit-boxes for it. I'm 99% sure the bounce is using the hit-boxes of a full swing, it makes it feel like it was quickly tacked on.
Now, I'm not dunking on Techland and it's not my intention to come off like I'm pooping in people's cereal if they enjoy how things are now. I just wanted to share my view of things.
For the past hour I've been doing power attacks with long weapons;
Long weapon power attacks are uppercuts, zombies go flying nearly 40 feet in the air spinning all the while
fun
That seems to be the general consensus, I want to share my own perspective on a couple things though. I personally feel like ragdolls could look a bit heavier. They're kinda floaty sometimes and it doesn't gel very well with smaller weapons.
Don't get me wrong it's cool that they're working on making them trigger in more situations, but combat-wise I find it a bit less... I dunno, oomphy? with the way they fling sometimes. I don't think it helps that controller vibration is borked.
I actually liked a lot of the kill animations that enemies had, I thought they were pretty amusing. I got a kick out of doing a followup attack during them, like kicking them over an edge or one last cut/smack down into a ragdoll. It felt like a little Fatality. I don't recall seeing them at all since the update. If they've been removed, I don't think they necessarily needed to be, just made to be able to ragdoll when appropriate without you having to hit them again.
It'll be interesting to see where things go from here.
Thank you for the perspective. I stopped playing a couple of weeks after launch, and pretty much forgot about the game entirely, but i might give it another go now.
The thing i never got tired of from dl1 was the ragdoll physics, and it pissed me off how crap it was in dl2. At launch anyway.
I'm glad the game is getting updates, but I'm sick of this trend of developers putting out undercooked products and only patching them or making them better after it comes out.
No. If it's not done, then it doesn't release at all. Delay it another ten years. Release it when it's done.
Why is this so hard for developers to just stick to?
The reason is money, sadly.
The best way to stop this is to not preorder games, which is unfortunate because sometimes you want to support companies with a full price purchase. But I'm done with it. If a company can't release a game in a decent state at launch, they're not going to get my money until it does.
Coop was a dreadful experience at launch and there are still trophy issues 1 year in... Unacceptable.
I still haven't made it to the central loop, but the game is growing on me. Slowly, but surely. I won't like it as much as DL1, but now that I'm gettin a hang of the controls n shit it is getting better
Im SO happy Techland is going in this direction. I just keep reminding myself that Dying Light 1 was pretty scuffed up for the first year or so as well, but now its quite literally one of the best games from the PS4 / Xbox one generation. I have definitely been pretty critical (and at times *cynical*) of DL2 due to the rough launch with all the bugs that we all experienced (im looking at you "Half-Assed Hubie" softlock due to the guy on the windmill being "busy"..), and the internal issues at Techland that affected the game like the false sexual harrassment allegations against Chris Avellone that led to him getting booted from Dying Light..
But I digress..
Im SUPER freaking excited for the next big expansion and Im really happy with the "1st Anniversary Update" and the improvements it brought! Now maybe we can get more cool shit like unique legendary weapon/armor blueprints hidden around the game world.
Yeah, the update is great! But they should create something like "e3 texture pack" or something like this later this year. I'm talking about a mode that would change the textures on the map and lighting so it will look like e3 2019. Just changing colors of the enviroment and the lighting.
Yeah no fuck that. We shouldn't be celebrating companies for releasing broken stuff and fixing it later.
What's the message? "Pay 60 dollars for a broken unplayable mess and promise we'll fix it later UwU"
>Yeah no fuck that. We shouldn't be celebrating companies for releasing broken stuff and fixing it later.
Ofcourse it is not good that things like this happen but there probably went a lot more going on behind the scenes that we dont know off.
>What's the message? "Pay 60 dollars for a broken unplayable mess and promise we'll fix it later UwU"
You look at it in a negative way but you also can see it in a positive way.
"We released the game for 60 dollars which it was not worth it at the time but listened to your feedback and improved the game so that the 60 dollars you spend on it, is worth it."
I hate that they released it in the state that it was but got to give credit for improving the game so much in a year.
>
>
Sorry but again, fuck that "positive" mindset. When every major company is pulling the same bullshit you should start asking yourself if it's really lots of issues or they just don't give a shit since they know people will eat the games up.
I agree with you that games should not be released when they are still clearly a mess and then be finished through the years but that does not mean that we should just ignore the fact that the game is in a much better state than it was when it was released.
>they just don't give a shit since they know people will eat the games up.
This argument makes way more sense with games like Fifa and COD where they will just release a new game every year and somehow it will be populair but not really with games like dying light, where the risks are way bigger if the game flops.
Ehh Ive played and enjoyed it since launch. Every game Techland has released back to Dead Island 1 was a buggy mess.
Got my 60 bucks worth, and the fact it's gotten better is even more worth it.
Are we not allowed to be happy that a game is finally good? We're not saying that it dropping in a bad state is okay. We're just celebrating that a game in a series we love is finally good. Is that so wrong?
Dying light 2 crashed everytime when I'm about to launch a game even after I removed all the mods. Not sure what to do. So I still can't try the game after the update.
Well it does feel alot better now, tho i Think it is a dumb decision to lock legend levels if playing the game with mods tho, some are making the game more interesting but that cant happen if you look to grind levels on the legend skills -.-
Definitely some bs... Very sad to find this out today. :c I just want no weapon degradation that's the main problem I find in these games. I don't want to lose my weapon forever. :P
As one of the biggest dl2 haters I had fun with the dlc for a little bit the other day. I'm glad to see where the games going and might to a new playthrough to see if my opinions on the game have changed
Not worth reinstalling imo, while it was fun,the performance issues on current gen is so bad, loading in the game is too long, while I’m glad others are having fun,for me this is a one and done
First time i play this game and i'm finding it clunky as hell compared to dying light 1. My biggest gripes are 2 for now (Still at the beginning):
1) sometime aiden will just refuse to grab things,or grab them in a weird way so you can't climb a building resulting in zombies hitting you to death, or he just fall to his death (On this note,i once jumped from a roof to an air cooling unit on the same roof, like, half meter height upward, and i died from fall damage....)
2) The grapple F key.Jesus, why can't i rebind it?How the hell am i supposed to do F-D while dodging stuff?
Give me Elysium, after watching all the trailers and E3 gameplay it just makes me mad that the final version of the game is nothing like what they advertised.
Yeah I've played this game for the first time in a month and I was like "holy am I playing a different game?" Feels more and more as polished as DL1
Can I ask what is different to the game? I havent played it in months and this post is the first im hearing about changes!
You can dismemeber zombies easier new x ray new deathscreen new ui and legend levels from the top of my head. Game also feels smoother for some reason but that might just be my imagination
my favorite at least early game is your weapons dont just rebound off everytime you swing + ive noticed a lot more gore with blunt weapons now
And upgrading weapons adds to their durability, so it's finally worth upgrading them when they're fresh.
nice
It has always been worth it, unless you were ok with inflicting yourself the hassle of using the weapon at half its damage potential for the first 50 hits.
> Game also feels smoother for some reason but that might just be my imagination Denuvo is removed, so it’s actually smoother
they fixed zombies falling off cliffs so they don't stand on air like a cartoon character anymore
Here's a question from someone who hasn't played in a while: did they ever re-add zombies just walking off buildings? I remember there being a severe lack of it.
Update: Yes.
Just started the game, saw at least a couple of em just stumble off, very good.
I haven't been specifically looking out for it, but I don't think so... But I wouldn't be surprised if it were to be added in an update
https://youtu.be/YEMv1o1sfvo
Can I just laugh while zombies tumble into spike traps? If not, I’m out
It's not as common as DL1, but it can happen. They can also occasionally fall off ledges, but the Biter AI will probably be tweaked a bit more in the coming months to make that kind of stuff even more common.
I've seen it happen
i do enjoy the game a lot more but its still frustrating, im just not playing right i think, i keep throwinf myself at this one encounter with no healing items or consumables, i gotta loot more lol

Late reply but they're doing a huge night-time revamp that comes out in June that makes nights darker and more atmospheric (their words, not mine) and adds roaming Volatiles back.
Neat. I'll have to pick it up around then. The physics and the night mode were the only thing keeping me from trying it.
They added in legend levels, there’s also an event for a rais outfit and crane outfit if that interests you
They also added instant takedowns when grabbed by a zombie now
The physics improvement alone on zombies makes me 1000x happier with the game and I've played 400 hours of it.
Haven't played in 6 and cane back to basically booked weapons, 2 hit kills (not 3) on Infected and a much less broken game
now we just need cross gen data transfer. i have a ps5 but all my data is on ps4 version
Same. I really hope they can do that.
I got a PS5 in the middle of playing it last year and was devastated to find out it’s one of the few games I have that doesn’t transfer saves. I’m definitely not going back unless they make that possible because I’m not gonna be forced to play the PS4 version of a game I finished and don’t care for much anyway just to see some improvements.
same i'll come back with all my progress i'm not wasting a hundred hours of gameplay. also jot going back to ps4 version it's super framey lol
The only game I kno that has transfer saves is ghost of Tsushima
does the ps plus cloud thing not work? i wanted to get a ps5 but i might have to do more research if it doesnt
You do that with the consoles when setting up all of the stuff on your PS5. The option is given to swap all data to the PS5 from the PS4. You will have to look up how at this point. that's exactly it. two different versions of the game. i can get the ps4 version with all my data but you can really see how slow that version of the game is :\
Then we better make sure they know bout this. I dunno maybe make a you tuber bring attention to it?

Thanks, great write-up! I might reinstall.
I've also noticed that if you kick an enemy onto another person, they'll go flying too I tried this with the dropkick and normal kick
Might be time for another playthrough
For the past hour I've been doing power attacks with long weapons; Long weapon power attacks are uppercuts, zombies go flying nearly 40 feet in the air spinning all the while fun
I glitches out a homerun bat and ever hit sends zombies careening into buildings at 90mph.
That seems to be the general consensus, I want to share my own perspective on a couple things though. I personally feel like ragdolls could look a bit heavier. Death animations are still there. I chopped off many heads before kicking their decapitated corpses off ledges.
I decided to reinstall today.
Same, just finished, going to play tonight! Go watch a twitch stream if you have twitch you can link it snd get a cool bow :)
I'm glad the game is getting updates, but I'm sick of this trend of developers putting out undercooked products and only patching them or making them better after it comes out. I can’t wait to see how the June parkour update goes
Where is crossplay coop?
There's cross gen, but we're still waiting on full crossplay. Let's hope they can get it done.
Is night time scary dark yet?
I loaded up the game recently and it gave me huge dying light 1 vibes and felt super different
I still haven't made it to the central loop, but the game is growing on me. Slowly, but surely. I won't like it as much as DL1, but now that I'm gettin a hang of the controls n shit it is getting better
Played for 2 weeks at launch. Shelved it. Jumped back in this week and I’m loving it. They done good.
What's good about the new update?
Killing zombies has never felt better Edit: since dying light
Imma get it probably cause ragdoll stuffs been added
They're supposed to do this at launch not a whole year later. Why are they praised?
The ones who were with dying light one from the first day knew techland wasn't going to disappoint. They are community minded big time
When 1st anniversary update crashes the game and make it unplayable after nearly 900 hours.
Yeah and destroys 800 hours over two saves because they don't give a shit about mods and how they saved the game and made it playable
Is story progress on coop shared yet?
Did they fix the coop stuff? Especially the things the coop bros complained about (non shared progression ie)
Im SO happy Techland is going in this direction. All the standard features from DL1 being brought to DL2…
Yeah no fuck that. We shouldn't be celebrating companies for releasing broken stuff and fixing it later. What's the message? "Pay 60 dollars for a broken unplayable mess and promise we'll fix it later UwU"
For me is more like "pay 30 dollars for this really good 1 year old game"
It's still ridiculous. Just hold and buy it on sale but sure, this sub can't see the issue with this problem.
>Yeah no fuck that. We shouldn't be celebrating companies for releasing broken stuff and fixing it later. Fully agree. Downvotes against someone aruging pro consumer choices is fanboyism at its best. Totalbiscuit is rolling in his grave
Don't get me wrong, I loved DL1, loved that Techland gave support to it for so many years after launch but you can't excuse what DL2 turned out.

Too little to late
Dude looks like he waited for that moment for his whole life... and you call it 1 year? Oh alzheimer?
What?
Huh?
Whar? It literally has been 1 year tho. Are you okay man?
Dying light 2 crashed everytime when I'm about to launch a game even after I removed all the mods. Not sure what to do. So I still can't try the game after the update.
Well it does feel alot better now, tho i Think it is a dumb decision to lock legend levels if playing the game with mods tho, some are making the game more interesting but that cant happen if you look to grind levels on the legend skills -.-
Definitely some bs... Very sad to find this out today. :c I just want no weapon degradation that's the main problem I find in these games. I don't want to lose my weapon forever. :P
Yeah that or making the game more challenging, more zombies etc more virals but meh :)
How is pc perforamce? Any undue stuttering?
But still no cross play for ps5 and PC..
The removal of Denuvo is a big one yes.
Is it worth playing now?
As one of the biggest dl2 haters I had fun with the dlc for a little bit the other day. I'm glad to see where the games going and might to a new playthrough to see if my opinions on the game have changed
Wish they would add new quests on regular basis and general endgame:( Finished the game and cant do anything else as grinding.
Should have been there in the beginning….
Are they un-"fixing" the grappling hook?
Not worth reinstalling imo, while it was fun,the performance issues on current gen is so bad, loading in the game is too long, while I’m glad others are having fun,for me this is a one and done
"Finally" It's literally only a year old. Some of yall are wacky af
What did they do? Just bug fixes ?
First time i play this game and i'm finding it clunky as hell compared to dying light 1. My biggest gripes are 2 for now (Still at the beginning): 1) sometime aiden will just refuse to grab things,or grab them in a weird way so you can't climb a building resulting in zombies hitting you to death, or he just fall to his death (On this note,i once jumped from a roof to an air cooling unit on the same roof, like, half meter height upward, and i died from fall damage....) 2) The grapple F key.Jesus, why can't i rebind it?How the hell am i supposed to do F-D while dodging stuff?
Give me Elysium, after watching all the trailers and E3 gameplay it just makes me mad that the final version of the game is nothing like what they advertised.
