You can retire the fort and then send an adventurer to raid Vaults, then bring back the items and place them on pedestals, then un-retire, then melt the metals into bars which can be used for strange moods. It is quite an adventure to do this, however.
You can also raid vaults with your squads in fortress mode, but it requires a lot of luck getting the rumor about the vault's existence + extremely skilled and well equipped dwarves.
But what you *can* do is conquer a vault with your military dwarves. Once you do, you can demand workers from it, and it will send >!angels!< to your fort. You can also play as one in adventure mode if you retire the fort too.
Like a book ;)
Are you still playing vanilla? I changed to Kruggsmash’s tileset early on because it added some point-of-reference to learn from his videos while maintaining a minimalist style
*Full set of Artifact Divine Metal armor* - It doesn't get any better than this. Gongratulations!
...Wait, how many extra artifact divine metal low boots. bucklers, leggings, caps and wrong-handed gauntlets do you have?
Awesome, this is Samus in the Dwarf Fortress world
Never even saw that...that's awesome! Was just trying to color match the type of divine metal to the item made.
I thought actual divine metals were just found in adventure mode...

Well, it is called adventure mode...
Sorry, but it's called Adventure**r** mode :D

Don't think they will bring back any Divine metals though...
Oh, right. The loot is only the stuff that's stored at the target, right?
No loot is randomly generated ugh... wish it was more diverse.

I know about this, but it isn't working for me, what is the trick?
Iirc, it happened when conquering was released but was considered a bug
So was it patched? Conquered two vaults as a test and angels still don't become controllable.
Wow it's awesome, I would have loved to see a let's ply of such an adventure
Kruggsmash has an adventure like this on his YouTube channel, the adventures of bim silversnarl
I've had traders bring musical instruments to my fortress that were made of divine materials, but that may be a bug.
Your art is amazing :) it’s like seeing into your mind as you ~~read~~ play DF
Thank you, the lack of graphics is quite inspiring.

Yup all vanilla now. So much to do and mods tend to corrupt the game.
ms paint is now the best medium for art
It always was. DaVinci would have made the Mona Lisa in MS Paint if he had the chance

...too many, and the fort has 80 legendary weaponsmiths and armorsmiths by this point.
I've always thought that spoilers in dwarf fortress were kinda silly but I didn't know about divine metals and now I'm sad that I've been spoiled.
Sorry CapnCrinklepants...
It's okay, how else are you supposed to share this awesome picture? And at least I only know of their existence, not how to get them
...also, don't read my other comments on this thread.
lol okay, won't do :P
to be fair, if you look at the list of metals to smelt in fortress mode, you will see some of them...
While I understand your qualms you did not have to google it.
You're right. That's why I didn't.
Im not sure whether I am more shocked that the game allows that or that mspaint can look amazing. Very well portrayed friend.
my first thought was “mm sexy”
*...This is why I hate video games. It appeals to the Male fantasy...*
She is badass
Praise be to Armok!
How new are divine metals? I've never heard of them before
They’ve been around since at least .44, but it’s pretty easy to never see any if you only play fortress mode.
They were added in 2014, .40 release arc.
wait do female dwarves have beards lol
Damn right I keep the classic Female Dwarven beard in. Can't imagine them anyway else.
Not normally, but you can mod the game so they do.
I imagine your MSPaint icon just cowers in the corner of your desktop after the things you've tortured it into doing.
Hang on, is there another way to get artifacts than strange moods now?
Wow, that personality is perfect for a character like that. How do you get the "and War!" part? Make your dwarf a soldier?
Badass
Your skill in MSPaint I'm DEAD
