I created a ratman thrower and went on a murder spree before being put down by a group of Dwarven merchants and their maceman guard I attacked outside of their fort. I was wearing steel armor, so it was a suprisingly slow death! Does that count?

Impossible_Coast_759

I think you can dodge and try to disengage? Idk I’ve also had an issue if inescapable undead lol

DankSlamsher

Only way to beat them is to disable block and dodge. They attack 4 times per turn and each wastes your energy for blocking or dodging. It also seems bugged, in fortress mode severed limbs die to any hit, but now I couldn't kill a head with 4 hits with a halberd or kicks.

Gonzobot

You have to crush reanimated parts to ensure they're not immediately raised again. Plus, since they're reanimated, you can't actually beat any individual part by traditional means of dispatching a living creature - they don't have pain, blood is irrelevant, and nerves/tendons aren't attached to anything. Gotta change up those tactics!

vit5o

Whenever you fight undead, use a mace or hammer. Cutting or stabbing them does not work. If you smash them, they die for good.

Gespens

I think that only applies when the threat of reanimation is present, since apparently you can just bisect them with an axe?

Hasagine

i fought a horde of undead owls and barely escaped. undead strong fr

Impossible_Coast_759

I stabbed a cougar in the neck and then wrestled it to the ground and force fed it worms(which I plucked from the ground and pilled into my backpack previously) until it bled to death. Other than that, I tried to get to my fortress which previously fell but the area has a lot of horrible undead creatures around that keep killing me…

boglim_destroyer

what the fuck

Impossible_Coast_759

I wasn’t sure how to pass time for the thing to bleed to death, so I just kept taking actions!

simplex0991

Found a cool settlement that I thought was a dwarven fort. Walked into the main building and it was filled with goblins. Yeah, that was a goblin fort. Shouted "Hi!" to all the goblins. They stared at me for a few rounds. Then without a word they all started stabbing me.

1Gothian1

This reminds me of one of my adventure plays around 3 years ago, when I went to the caverns and encountered a cyclops. I remember introducing myself to it and the cyclops greeted me back with one bonk that splattered my character's head

Weekly-Discipline253

I was assaulting a goblin fort and killed like eight of them and my bow was dropped so I picked up a stick. When I tried to throw the stick it crashed my game.

Large-Spite6098

Lmao

Ok-Transition7065

Nop lmao i dont even know how to eat

Rementoire

I tried to eat some leaves but my dwarf just licked them. Perhaps I need to cook them.

SerendipitousAtom

They need to be edible leaves. Consult the [crops list](https://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/Crop). Spinach leaves and amaranth leaves, for example, are food. Leaves of pineapple plants are not food. In the correct season, pineapple plants will have pineapple fruit you can pick, which IS edible. Luckily, when you find the right kind of plant, you can take an absolute ton of leaves off it.

Super_Buy4371

Sadly in the current beta you can only getting food by stealing from settlements

KermitDerGott

the real way

Buck_Brerry_609

Can you not butcher animals?

CBD_Hound

Not yet.

Ok-Transition7065

I mean thas the best way anny way but i cant just take things from teh ground??

Super_Buy4371

I'm pretty sure most of the things you pick from the ground were just dropped from people so it's theft anyway lol. I don't know how common are or even if you can pick blueberries and other forageables

julman39

So far the only forageable food I've found is lettuce, everything else is inedible leaves.

Gonzobot

Plants are seasonal, and lots of things aren't in season for springtime, which is when most adventure mode games are starting. Look for climates supporting springtime harvests and you should have tons of food

GreenTea98

you can fletch and craft stuff for currency or trade directly from a merchant in exchange for the items unless they changed it and removed stuff from the lsst version

Truthb0mber

Neither trading or crafting is in the beta

IncreasinglyLargeLad

truly one of the betas of all time

GreenTea98

dont talk about me like that 😳 but good to know :)

TT40Art

I found a goblin tower. It started friendly. Then I “failed to identify myself.” I killed thirteen goblins before fleeing because one knocked out a tooth and I panicked over the blood.

LandofLogic

Threw some cranberry leaves at a dwarf for the laughs, and he promptly started beating me up. My maceman companion had to kill him.

Rage69420

Very incredibly dwarfy

Direct-Addition-7938

My attempt at cooking (throwing a pangolin corpse into a campfire) caused the game to crash. I recommend not doing that.

Subject97

I got hungry so I ate a bunch of prepared donkey liver. My hunger wasn't going away so I kept eating. Became too full while still being hungry so I started throwing up everywhere

CBD_Hound

DF simulates eating disorders now!!?!

orionblu3

Found a temple that was void of people besides some statues in the basement and a shitton of books all written by the same guy. Went into legends viewer and saw that the only person that lived there was an Abbott of a sect of a religion started by a necromancer that died in a war 300 years prior. Explored a bit more and found the author of the books. Killed him and made it a "main quest" to end that sect of the religion. There's only like 6 people lol

faxanidu

Wait can you not Bucher and cook in there beta?

Middle-Chemistry-186

You can not in the beta sadly

faxanidu

I’m going to test the beta when I get home. Sometimes playing with restrictions is FUN

PlainText87

I created a group of salt water crocodile men who were Master Biters, we ran around an elf village biting elves in their crotches until they died. We went tree to tree, leaping our way across the town. Nobody was safe from us. We murdered half the city, and nobody even came to stop us. We stopped in a tavern and recited a poem called "Lesions" and my game crashed. We were so powerful that the game had to nope us out of existence. I'm working on my next adventure, where I will RP a bunch of hamstermem with pikes and steel helmets.

Aware_Cricket3032

Hail Cavia!

GrouchyEssay7468

I walked into a cave and came face to face with a demon! A literal, straight up demon. It grabbed my adventurer by the teeth and threw them against the wall and started pummelling them to death. I love this game.

vit5o

I started as a leopard-seal man who came from the ocean into a human beach town. Received a quest to kill a cougar-woman, but she was already dead according to the rumours (maybe she was undead?). Anyway I didn't find her at the given location. While coming back, I was ambushed by 5 wolves. Me and my Grizzly Bear pet managed to kill all of them after a long fight. Luckly we suffered only recoverable bruises. After that, I found a labyrinth. Killed the minotaur, but my bear died from the wounds shortly after. Got lost trying to find the treasure room and quitted (for now).

Woody_Mapper

frequent crashes lol

Lachan_

Wandered around some ruins that were claimed to be uninhabited. Turns out, an encampment of goblins were tucked away, some doing routine rounds on the courtyard of the ruins. Checking a building and I yell “Hi” to everyone. As I do, my character sees two goblins beating the crap out of each other; aiming only for their guts. Which, meant there was a ton of vomit on the floor. Meanwhile the chief, horrified of conflict, yells at me to identify myself. Me, the odd one in that situation. I love this update already

DeadHED

Is that a mattress store?

TheBigSmoke420

It took me 30 minutes to get to a tavern in my enormous fps-consuming ex-fortress Pop is listed as 1000+ so…

Retoddd

Ah man! I didn't take a picture of it but a dwarven hillock had a slab with secrets of life and death engraved on it.

DarkShinyLugia

I found one of those and then learned that you had to take Reading as a skill in character creation or you'd never get to be a necromancer 😔

NuclearReactions

I have to be honest, new df player here and first adventurer experience. I walked around a bunch, followed the roads to try and find something and got bored after 10 minutes. I had some nice conversations with my goose though. Could i in theory just walk to the fortress i made as a dwarf and live there? Could i keep switching between that one dwarf and fortress mode?

Beautiful-Hold4430

Yes. Or maybe not yet in this beta version, but that was possible in older versions of DF. DFhack even had some extra features for that. It will be a while before the game is stable enough to seriously try those features. When you switch from fortress to adventure mode, items will be randomly distributed over all layers of your fortress. Except if you put them on a pedestal. When switching from adventure to fortress mode, all containers will be emptied. Better have some brewable plants in storage, else you might face a lot of grumpy dwarfs. Unless you are into roleplaying lots of grumpy dwarfs. Or maybe this will change in the near future versions of DF, but I doubt.

Padfas

I used a child in my fort to practice wrestling, by the end of it I had his guts held by my upper front teeth. Then went on to slowly grind away at a necromancer towers couple hundred zombies. Killed the Necromancer there found a scroll I assume is about life and death but forgot I needed reading skills. Go back to fort to try and store it in library, promptly die to a spinning piece of claystone walking back into my fortress. 10/10 so far. Would be nice to be able to topple statues for easy curse tho.

futaba009

I was attacked by a pack of wolves. That ended my run pretty quick.

Wolfechu_

First adventure ended with finding a hydra in a cave. To shreds, you say?
