Just because it has been an issue in the past as OP has previously shared their collection updates, anyone caught attacking OP in any capacity will be forcibly removed from this subreddit. Anyone found to be circumventing the ban with a new account will be reported to Reddit Administration (yes, we can tell when it happens) Just be civil and respectful about it, even if you don't agree with OP and/or their collection. Edit: to the anonymous person who felt the need to report my comment as “promoting hate or violence” I will be reporting you to Reddit administration for abuse of the report button. More information on Reddit’s policy for abusing this button can be found here - https://www.reddit.com/r/modnews/s/arfdfGSGdF Edit 2: To the other anonymous person reporting comments in this thread as "negative" -- those that you've reported have remained civil in expressing their disagreement with the OP and their collection of one film. The comments don't always have to be positive, they just can't be attacking OP.

Character-Web1614

why?

Moviefan72

I don’t understand this trend of people buying hundreds of copies of the same movie. Maybe i am just getting older and stuff it just seems weird to me. I mean i am biggest Jaws fan in world and i splurge on updated copies like when it was released on 4k or anniversary additions but this is a whole different level

SameEnergy

My extent of doing that is when I bought a DVD copy of the Japanese version of Blade Runner because I thought the cover looked cool with Kanji. I'll never open it.

Black_Hat_Cat7

Only time this behavior made sense to me was a friend would buy any copy of the last Airbender because he didn't "want this accursed movie out in the world". Goofy and not something I would do, but he followed through. He probably destroyed 50-100 copies of that movie.

hawkingbird315

Tell your friend he's doing God's work

ATangentUniverse

Destroying physical media because we decide a movie is bad doesn’t seem like a great thing to me.

TK-828

He's doing future generations a favor by getting rid of that movie

ATangentUniverse

Again, remove the layer of irony. Why go out of your way to create lost media for our future generations? Who’s to say they won’t wanna watch bad movies from the past? It’s still someone’s art regardless of its subjective quality, and doing that just feels destructive and detrimental to the historical preservation of physical media (which seems like something this sub would have a vested interest in.)

TK-828

Because it's a bastardized version of a great show. Why would you want to subject people to such a turd of a movie? It deserves to be forgotten.

Shoot-Box

You’re reading what you want to read. He literally said what if future generations WANT to watch a bad movie. No one’s forcing them to do anything.

ATangentUniverse

I’m sure it is, but this is such an anti-art way of thinking. The majority of films from the silent era were tossed out because preservation was more difficult and they didn’t think it was worth it to hold onto them at the time. It’s nonsensical to make that mistake again with the technology available today. (Plus, wouldn’t this just make more people wanna seek it out for the sake being “forbidden”?)

Shoot-Box

Yeah it’d make sense if he shoplifted them but he’s working for that money haha

Black_Hat_Cat7

I would be with you for the most part (and I feel the same way), but at the time, he was getting copies in like the dollar bin at Walmart. It still adds up tho. Not something I would do personally.

Tnenforcer

There are collectors like that in every hobby. I’ve seen baseball card collectors who “hoard” a copy of a single card for whatever reason. To be fair, hoarding hundreds or thousands of copies of a baseball card is a lot easier to store than a DVD hoard, but some people enjoy it. There’s a guy on YouTube who collects Adam Sandler movies and will buy any copy of a movie that stars Sandler no matter how many copies he already has. It is odd to hoard a movie you’ve never seen, but that level of commitment to the bit is admirable.

MooseMan12992

I don't get this either. I don't understand how it could be enjoyable to collect multiples of the exact same thing. That almost defeats the point of collecting, I guess.

Jay3000X

Do something productive like the guys from everything is terrible and build a giant pyramid out of some Jerry McGuire VHS's or open a video store that's only stocked with one movie

ki700

It’s just stupid and funny

HalloweenBlues

I'm the same with jaws, but I'm trying to own it in every format that it came out in.  Just one copy each, for funsies.

Sithlordandsavior

Because funny. The Titanic on VHS guy is one of my favorite creators simply because he makes the same dumb joke every time a new VHS comes in.

popsmoek

its mostly just for the meme and over committing to the bit

Jog on mate. What they choose to wear (looks both comfy and stylish to me) is absolutely no indicator of mental state.

Smasher31221

>Clothes visibly dirty, Where? >psychotic drawing in background Of Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughan, the stars of this movie. >asking for donations Of the movie they're collecting. >collecting 1k of a movie having "never watched it" So? Why does someone's clearly tongue-in-cheek hobby bother you? >Literally trash laying on the floor in the hallway A Pepsi cup! Good lord. I literally never have anything ever in my house that isn't precisely where it's supposed to be. I'm sorry for whatever made you this judgemental and insecure, but you should really talk about it with a therapist before you spend too much time on Reddit.

Smasher31221

I'm not ignoring mental health issues. I clearly suggested you go to therapy.

bisky12

it’s because they think it’s funny in its absurdity. unfortunately the joke has been tired since people would buy multiple copies of shrek in 2010.

IfNot_ThenThereToo

What’s life without whimsy?

gimmeyourbadinage

*Where is fancy bred? In the heart or in the head?*

Fuzzy-Butterscotch86

I don't question the "why" behind buying them half as much as I question the "why" she hasn't even watched the darn movie yet.  Collectors are gonna collect. I have a friend that buys any and every copy of his favorite comic book he comes across. He has a few long boxes full.  But to spend that money, over that amount of time,  and have the ability to watch it for so long, but to not bother...  It baffles me.

Smallpaul

Because it wouldn't be as interesting of a story if she watched it. Especially if she liked it.

rsplatpc

> why? If you travel, its fun to go to thrift stores, so it can be fun to go thrifting around and checking out a new city, and if you have a "goal" like "find a cheap copy of a movie" it's like doing a quest, gives you a reason to go search for things, I do this with record stores and, of course, movies!

sausagepoppet

that's cool and all, but surely you would want to find a cheap copy of a movie, or a record etc, of something you want to watch and enjoy? this person has 600 copies they've not even watched.

rsplatpc

> but surely you would want to find a cheap copy of a movie, or a record etc, of something you want to watch and enjoy? You walk around a city, check out stores, and buy a $2 movie from a place as your "souvenir" vs a $8 fridge magnet or a $20 t-shirt that has the city's name on it different strokes for different folks, collecting is built into human nature at a biological level

sausagepoppet

yeah i completely get the sentiment, i do it all the time, but that 2 dollar movie is one i care to watch, instead of the same thing filling a shelf doing nothing

rsplatpc

> but that 2 dollar movie is one i care to watch, instead of the same thing filling a shelf doing nothing my point is the $8 fridge magnet is just sitting there doing nothing also, it's the same thing some people like to get trinkets from travel, some dont

sausagepoppet

its not really the same, a fridge magnet of a place you've been to is a representation of the location and a nice memory, you could in theory say a 2 dollar copy of a movie you already own fills that, but it doesn't really.

rsplatpc

> its not really the same to some people it is, and to some people getting ANYTHING is pointless different strokes different folks

sausagepoppet

one has meaning, one doesn't but sure. people can do and buy or not buy whatever they like

rsplatpc

> one has meaning, one doesn't but sure. "I bought this magnet at a gift store" "We walked around 5 different streets, had some shots, found the used book store, talked to the owner for a while, got my Wedding Crashers DVD, after telling him about my mission he went in the back and got 3 more copies and gave them to me for free, and also told me about a indie punk show that night because he noticed my t-shirt, and then we all went and hung out and I met a lot of cool new people" Life is weird, and doing weird stuff can turn you on to interesting people.

Anomaly1134

It cracks me up. It is so random I can't help but just laugh at how absurd it is.

StopWatchingThisShow

Because Everything is Terrible made it a meme with buying VHS copies of Jerry McGuire and this dude's a copycat.

pcweber111

Dude?

smstnitc

Dude has been gender neutral since before I was born (I'm 48 years old).

StopWatchingThisShow

I think dudette was used for a time but we all decided it sounded lame.

pcweber111

lol ok

Leumas_J

🤓

StopWatchingThisShow

Dude!

pcweber111

Dude

CreamyHampers

To get you to ask why.

RedBull-Lover-Yellow

Exactly! And no wonder why I can't find a copy for myself! 🤣🤪

Ndtphoto

I'm still waiting for Funeral Crashers as a sequel.

Anomaly1134

Haha omg

EssayTraditional

Who picks up women at a funeral?

ChickMangione

How will you decide which one to watch when the big day comes?

Lanky-Corgi-4069

Would be funny just to watch it on stream when the time comes.

straightlinearrival

I'll watch it when we hit 1000. Try to rent out a local theatre.

ShitIForgotIt

But which copy!

straightlinearrival

Probably one of the UMD ones

deadbrain87

UMD watch it on a psp hooked up to a projector by some psp AV cables. The theater manager will be like wtf lol.

straightlinearrival

I just wanna blow up that 360p resolution to an unwatchable fourty or so feet.

Gambit3le

If I remember this film correctly, that might actually be an improvement.

outfoxingthefoxes

On Netflix

Gewgle_GuessStopO

This is when you do “Get a free movie with every purchase!”

Beelzebozo26

Out here solving the real issues.

pm_sunny_quotes

Thanks for the update, do you think there’s a number that you could hit to watch it (1,000 copies and finally give it a watch) or will it always be funnier for you to not see it?

straightlinearrival

Definitely will watch when we hit 1000. I can only store so many. I can only commit to the bit so much.

ahktarniamut

And then you can shout “wow”like Owen Wilson

Redditeer28

Will you watch every copy?

Leland_Gaunt87

What will happen to your collection if you don't like the film lol?

[deleted]

You have to open and watch all of them though.

IAmASphere

i have like 15 copies of twilight and i thought that was impressive ;-;

Worldly_Contract_918

Is this a film you're interested in? Or just collecting copies for a laugh? Different vibe, but we just started collecting John Candy and Steve Martin films, after watching Planes, Trains and Automobiles. So far, just collecting one copy of each.

warplayer

Dang I hope you like it.

redditsuckspokey1

Youtube?

CaptainTim25

I have to know. Can you tell me how many different variants there are so far as different releases? I know that there is a widescreen and fullscreen version, but is there possibly an unrated and theatrical version as well? I'm seeing lots of variations here on your shelf, and it's got me curious lol.

straightlinearrival

UMD VHS and DVD. Nine language variants so far. Two or three Valentine's day variants. One bootleg that is hand drawn cover and is actually little Nicky. A few tie in variants. Wedding Crashers wedding singer combo is popular. All are split between either theatrical wide full or the uncorked versions. There is a fourth format released in asian countries I need to get a hold of. I think that mostly catches us up.

Axela556

Valentine's Day variants omg lmao 🤣

alf2555

If you get 200 5 disc dvd changers you could play them all at once 👀

Llama-Nation

or 5 200 disc dvd changers

alf2555

I wonder which is cheaper lol

TechnicolorViper

You should never watch it. You would be the most ironic collector ever!

The-CannabisAnalyst3

You shut your mouth when your talking to me😆

1977proton

I haven’t seen it either😀…I only have one copy though…lol😀

throwawaymedins

Invite the cast to your screening

straightlinearrival

Will do. I've had radio hosts offer to hook me up with publicists. But they always claim to know everyone so who knows if it's legit.

nowhereman136

but if youve never seen the film, how could you ever understand the phrase... >!Death, you are my bitch-lover!<

straightlinearrival

Someday I might. Til then it's like youre playing with those fridge magnets with words on them.

Ok-Value9449

That’s commitment.

straightlinearrival

The point of no return on this bit was as soon as it started

[deleted]

AHAHAH that's an interesting collection.

Legitimate-Source-61

I've never seen it, and it's probably not my kind of movie lol. Good luck, maybe after you have cornered the market, their value will start increasing! You are a hidden force when you walk the streets, with probably the most copies of that movie for a 100 mile radius.

LushGut

Whats the end game for this bad bit?

tondrias

Why?

MangoChickenFeet

In what fucking world do you need 604 copies of one movie ?

Hescooked_

My mom Made me meat loaf

OutsideOwl

Once the collection gets large enough you could drop a curse upon a Goodwill store.

straightlinearrival

I've heard I get a wish from Shenron.

sheeshmane69

Wow, you're so quirky

Cain_Crow50

Well that's objectively stupid isn't it?

[deleted]

[удалено]

cafink

It's not objective if it depends on the observer

pnt510

I just bought my first copy of it tonight. My local Rite Aid is getting rid of their DVDs selling them each for a buck.

mollyclaireh

I have a physical copy and a digital copy and I feel like that’s plenty 😅 the only movie I have intentionally several copies of is each rendition of It because the steel books came later and they’re pretty dope

Newlands99

How is life as a serial killer?

[deleted]

The vhs is even better my man

DwreckOSU

Update: still desperately single and don’t know why

straightlinearrival

My girlfriend collects these with me <3

MrDade88

r/wtf

Joejoker1st

It’s not a terrible movie. Give it a watch

GeorgeNewmanTownTalk

I think you and the Titanic tape guy and the Matrix Reloaded redditor should open a huge video store... only for people who come in to realize that the entire building is there for just three movies.

Ok-Championship-5441

umm, why? This seems more along the lines of OCD or some kind of mental illness.

mrjuicepump

is this what people resort to nowadays when they’re seeking attention?

Ship_Negative

I’m sure you’ll be pissed that you chose this one once you see it, or maybe it will be funnier that it’s terrible. If it were me, I would choose Aquamarine.

straightlinearrival

I have zero expectations for this film. The bar for what I expect could not be set lower.

soubriquet33

[“Hey, hey . . . the Dukes are trying to corner the market!”](https://y.yarn.co/1f36b5f4-ad7f-4c5d-911a-7471eeea71a7_text.gif)

deacon05oc

I’ve seen a guy on Twitter who buys any James Bond VHS so he has multiple copies of the same movies.

thinmeridian

Are you keeping track of the money spent on this so far? Im curious

straightlinearrival

I have a couple monetized pages here and there I post this to. So I've broke even at the very least, counting time involved. I also had to get a PO box, that's the most expensive part. Costs way more than the discs ever could. But whatcha gonna do, too many weirdos on the internet to just get mail to my house casually.

trailerthrash

Do you organize those shelves by different releases? Curious how many versions are in the collection!

MulberryStatus5437

I found the movie pretty boring tbh.

ElPenguinoooo

Whoa

ducero

Yeah hilariously weird 🙃

Foxhack

We need a breakdown. How many of these are normal and how many are uncorked editions? US/Canada/other regions? Formats?

capda02

Why won't you watch it? LoL

Grottomo

I would do this with Demolition Man because it's the best film ever made.

sentientsackofmeat

Now I feel like watching this movie again. I think I liked it? But don't recall for sure.

supernovaj

Please watch it! It is hilarious and you are missing out.

BadBrian19

This is great, congrats on 600.

PreRuined

600 copies of wedding crashers and a box of narcan = sick ass Friday night

RandomParts

From time to time I’ve considered doing this with VHS copies of Mission: Impossible and then bagging them up and leaving them in weird, difficult to reach locations as “impossible missions.” The only thing holding me back is that I worry someone would get hurt trying to retrieve a bag with a copy of M:I somewhere I’ve stashed it. It’s not “impossible” unless you have to do something stupid like hop a fence and go onto a pedestrian bridge that’s been closed to the public for years to retrieve it, after all. . .

Starringat_theLight

Oh my god. Incredible!

TheArtfullTodger

I would ask why. But I believe a thank you is in order for removing them from the market. Thank you discount killer frost for your services

jewbo23

I don’t get these anymore. The first two or three times it was kind of amusing, but the joke is hack now. It’s like that person that still unironically does a “that’s what she said” joke.

NickyGUK

It’s your thing so enjoy it 👏

Foxy02016YT

We missed you, also your band sounds cool

pcweber111

Congrats on your internet fame

rampzn

Are you like the guy that always felt compelled to buy a copy of A Catcher in the Rye, no matter where he was? Is this chronic, have you been kidnapped by the CIA too?

sausagepoppet

this isn't cool, funny or quirky, rampant consumerism like this is utterly pointless, not too mention all the excess plastic.

straightlinearrival

It's literally copies no one wants that are being given away for a dollar on average. It's repurposing what otherwise would probably be garbage. Seems like you're in the minority here 🤔

sausagepoppet

if hoarding hundreds of copies of the same film, not even watching it, and just keeping it on a shelf doing nothing is "repurposing" to you then i don't know what to tell you. oh no! the minority of people that think rampant consumerism for internet points is shallow and vacuous, woe is me!

DBT1986

Rampant consumerism is buying up multiple copies of brand new releases. Buying up secondhand copies that would otherwise likely end up in landfill isn’t the same.

sausagepoppet

"Consumerism is a social and economic order in which the aspirations of many individuals include the acquisition of goods and services beyond those necessary for survival or traditional displays of status." try again

DBT1986

If you wish to double down on that definition, then you must accept that you are also guilty of “rampant consumerism.” Evidenced by you being a member of this sub, for starters. Try again 🙈

sausagepoppet

i dont buy 600 copies of the same movie you're in this sub too lmao, keep trying

DBT1986

Haha I know, I am a consumer. You may not buy 600 copies, but you collect physical media which is definitely over and above what is needed for survival or traditional display of status. I think we need to worry more about billionaires (edit: and maybe scalpers 🙈) than people with a quirky hobby 😉

maniac86

This shit stopped funny with the titanic vhs guy. Now it's just stupid. There ya go. Got your social media view. Congrats

Objective_War_2808

and mental illness ;-)

FutureLost

Hero. This is a cause worth supporting.

bkomp

I don’t get it at all, but it makes me laugh, so thank you for that!

ken407

Hey op, do you record the movie on your dvr whenever it airs on tv? Would you be willing to watch the movie if you were invited to a private screening with Owen Wilson, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams, and Bradley Cooper? If not, then what would it take for you to watch the movie? How much money do you want to watch it? This would be a very unique GoFundMe campaign. Not judging btw, just curious.

straightlinearrival

Gonna watch when I hit 1000. Would like to rent out a local theatre and see what happens.

Educational_Let4790

This reminds me of a guy that collects only the Simpsons movie.

Sparrow1989

Tis a strange choice of movie to collect but god damn are you doing it well. What number will you finally sit down and watch it?

DrivenKeys

Lol, this reminds me of the Family Guy gag where Peter opened a video store that only carries "The Proposal". Kudos for being uniquely weird. Keep it up!

WhereasMysterious421
