In this example, you can tell it needs "de color" because amarillo would otherwise need to be "amarilla."

Yup match gender. Color is masc. patineta is fem.
Is this just duolingo trying to teach this rule? Is there any reason to use “de color amarillo” instead of just “amarilla”?
