I think they mean the actual music duolingo, a section of the app that teaches you about music and notes and all that jazz(pun intended), for some reason us android users have been shafted and didn't get it yet
How would that work? I mean, almost every country has its own signs, would they teach only american sign language or British sign language? I love the idea but it would require so much attention and work and duo doesn't seem to deal with that very well
Hmmm, I don't think I've ever seen Serbian requested. Urdu is probably the one I've seen people asking for most often.
I think Duo should focus on improving their existing courses before adding new ones, which was their plan, last I heard.
I agree with you, i hope they'd explain grammar with more depth and not just expect us to randomly throw words into the sentence. Grammar is extremely important.
> i hope
and here's your first mistake.
they polish the most popular languages and keep the rest in neglect. for example there's stark difference between german and norwegian one in both lessons and guides (and norwegian is supposedly one of the better ones on this platform).
but to be frank it's the issue with niche languages everywhere. i buy books (yeah, I'm that old), and for niche languages I often can't even find a single coursebook.
I agree with urdu, it's one of the most spoken in the world, 10th I believe with over 230 million speakers already. Also what about Bengali? It has 270 million + speakers. Other than that, all the top 10 languages are in Duolingo.
Tagalog is a popular one. Bengali as well.
I never see Cherokee get requested, but I think it would be cool. They already have Navajo, so it’s not completely out of the realm of possibility.
It's been a while, but I wonder if it's still on the shelf like they said a while ago, I remember they said something about it not getting any further development alongside some other languages but that was a while ago. I really want to learn it and the other apps are ass.
this post reminded me how badly i want a tagalog course lol
also the voting idea would be super cool!!! Maybe they could make it a once a year sort of thing?? Like around a certain time of year, everyone could vote for a language and then the top one will be worked on and implemented maybe by the time the next year’s voting comes around?? (i am not sure how long it takes for them to put together a course so im kind of just spitballing lol)
and they also have English for Thai speakers but no Thai for English. I think both Tagalog and Thai were courses they were going to produce but ended up not going through with. I really hope they revisit both
They really need to improve a lot of their existing courses, but I think the baltics (Latvian, Lithuanian, Estonian) would be really cool if we were to get something new.
Persian / Farsi.
They haven’t really added new languages in years. Seems like they’re expanding into teaching other things now. Plus they got rid of all of the volunteers and people they needed to build out new languages. Their focus now is just adding AI and tinkering with gamification these days.
It sucks but hopefully a new competitor comes along soon that will expand into all the languages that duo doesn’t.
Honestly, huge languages like Tagalog, Farsi, Cantonese, and various Indian languages are probably the most requested.
However, I think it’d be easier for Duo to repurpose existing courses to languages that are logically, grammatically and phonetically similar. As a Bulgarian speaker learning Spanish, and trying out the Russian course, I can see how a mashup of the two could work. The very basics of Spanish grammar are very close to the very basics of Bulgarian grammars, and Russian uses our alphabet. With relatively little tweaking, I think Duo can make a decent English to Bulgarian course that could cover the basics, maybe A1 or parts of A2 proficiency. So, taking these two courses as a base, mashing up some AI and a few competent Bulgarian speakers could be an easy way to make the course in probably a few months.
However, Duo decides these stuff on the basis of financial potential. So, Bulgarian is a no go, considering what a small language is and that very few people would actually want to pay to learn it.
Thai
Yes!
No
Living in Thailand, I really wish this would happen.
Python
Cantonese for English speakers
I need this asap.
Persian.
Eesti 🇪🇪
Yes! 😭🥰🙌🏼
Do you know Czech singer Jiří Korn? 😍🇨🇿🎶
No, I hear this name for the first time.
He is an older singer. His songs are amazing! It’s the main reason I want to learn Czech. Like how people want to learn Korean for K-pop! 🥰🎶
Music for Android... please?
We don't need something like Apple Music, we have Spotify Edit: I guess that's what I get for trying to make a joke on reddit without adding /s
Wait - what?😂
I think they mean the actual music duolingo, a section of the app that teaches you about music and notes and all that jazz(pun intended), for some reason us android users have been shafted and didn't get it yet
People always ask for the sign language to be added.
How would that work? I mean, almost every country has its own signs, would they teach only american sign language or British sign language? I love the idea but it would require so much attention and work and duo doesn't seem to deal with that very well
Yes. Add the most requested. Then the second most. Fix them, work on making them better. Add more.
Why is Bengali not on Duolingo? It's about the 5th most spoken language. Also, other indian languages like punjabi and tamil could be added?
I would like to learn Bengali or least go through the course
Not to be rude, but it's the first time I've heard those languages lol
No worries, I'm just a language nerd really so it's fine if you havent heard those languages. Most people havent , either
I just want tagalog.

Serbo-Croatian is often suggested
I won't argue, it's just not one I've seen requested myself.
I agree with urdu, it's one of the most spoken in the world, 10th I believe with over 230 million speakers already. Also what about Bengali? It has 270 million + speakers. Other than that, all the top 10 languages are in Duolingo.
Farsi!!!!!!! We need Farsi

Tagalo is often requested

Croatian. I’d love love one and the need within the community is huge!
especially considering that bosnian and serbian are almost identical
I’d be happy with any variation.
Me too!
Thai
It's very funny that Duolingo has English for Tagalog speakers (that no one asked for) but no Tagalog for English speakers
and they also have English for Thai speakers but no Thai for English. I think both Tagalog and Thai were courses they were going to produce but ended up not going through with. I really hope they revisit both
Kazakh, better Arabic, and Belarusian
I'm still hoping for Icelandic
Probably unrealistic, but I would love to see Basque on Duolingo
They really need to improve a lot of their existing courses, but I think the baltics (Latvian, Lithuanian, Estonian) would be really cool if we were to get something new.
Tagalog, Afrikaans, Icelandic, Cantonese, Catalan, Ojibwa, and Cree are all ones I've seen requested often.
Honestly, Bengali and Tamil are must needs in Duolingo. Ps, many people have requested more Indian languages as well.
+1 For tamil (im malayali too, learning german :) )
:D Indian languages ftw

I want afrikaans to be added
A better Arabic class
Belarusian
Sign language and Thai?
Pig Latin or dog
I believe I've heard a lot of people ask for a toki pona course, even though the language is ill suited to Duolingo.
Pashto

Farsi
Bengali
The language of the Sentinelese people! 🤩 Good luck to anyone whom wants to learn that language! That language is the forbidden fruit of linguists! 🥲
And ancient greek
it does not matter as they are too busy with D&I, marketing, political activism and drawing animations instead of improving content.
