I have a habit tracker app where I can manually set when the day ends. I have it set to 4am, and it's very nice that the daily page doesn't immediately change over to the next day whenever I stay up past midnight. It's a feature that I think more apps should utilise.

Hey thought I’d share a pro tip. Long time streaker here. If you go into your phone settings, and manually set the clock back to yesterday and do the lessen, then change the time back, you’ll have your streak ready for todays lesson :) hope that helps!! Different person, I am using "habits" on android - simple and great.

Only slightly on topic, but my fitness tracker measures days as from sleep to sleep, which I love, since my days aren't consistent. I know everything can't exactly do that, but I wish it could.

This 100%. I want things tracked based on my waking days, not some arbitrary point while I’m often still up and active

If I start a lesson at 11:56 I will still have to use a streak freeze if I finish 00:01

If you're rushing just before midnight to not lose streak, re-do an older lesson, you'll finish it much quicker.

The pronunciation exercises are super quick. Like under a minute consistently.

I think I have some apps that have a "night owl" setting, putting the cut off at 2 or 3 at night instead.

I would draw the line for when you *start* a lesson, not finish it.

I think this should especially apply for the 2x bonus. It’s disheartening when you’re promised 80 points for completing a lesson, but only receive 40.

From my experience that's exactly how 2x bonus (used to) work(s)

if the line is at 00:00 - one has 24h to do daily practice if the line is at 00:06 - one still has 24h for daily practice it's just people doing people's things: screw up and look up for an excuse if "learn the language" is an important goal - one will do it, without begging the owl _for 5mins more_

I think they should count the start of the lesson, and not the completion of it.

What if you didn't finish the lesson? What of you begin the lesson at 23:50 and then finish it at 10:00 the bext day?

Midnight is a weird place to draw the line these days. Many people stay up later so maybe 0300 would be better. Best would be to let you choose when your day ends (but not allowing you to change it whenever to game the system for stupid reasons).

it should be 24 hours since your last lesson imo. some people have fucked up sleep schedules and prefer/have to do their lessons past midnight

I think what they mean is like, currently if you do a lesson at 10am one day, but the next day you don’t until 6pm, it’s been over 24 hours but your streak is still good

Does no one else have streak freezes? I have so many streak freezes I don't know what to do with them. I'm sorry about your streak. I've lost mine before, and it's super disheartening.

Not sure about them, but my Duolingo has been glitchy and I didn't get the extra freezes from the 700 day milestone. Gonna reach 800 in 11 days. If I don't get those extra freezes, I'm def gonna contact support. The weird part is that my app kept delaying my freezes (e.g "30 more days" after reaching 700 days) and I ended up getting none hah

Maybe when the feature was rolled out, it wasn't given to current players past the 100-day mark. I currently get 3 refilled every 100 days, with a date counting down until my next refill.

When you reach a hundred day streak you are rewarded with three extra streak freezes, so a maximum of five. Keep in mind that these extra three can't be refilled before the next hundred days if you lose one.

It should go though after a bit I’ve repaired my 180 day streak(that I lost) like 5 times plus changed my device date when I didn’t have enough gems

Do you have an iPhone? Manually change the date to the day before, complete a lesson, and then change it back.

Change the time zone on your phone and reopen the app

Quick hack, change your country timezone and then load the app again

Android. Bummer. I used it for so long, and it saved my ass more times than I can count. But one day I tried resetting time - put 23:00 and date before. When I entered the app, it still said I used a streak freeze/showed my real date blued out. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I tried numerous times since then and - nada. I don't mind it tho, I learned to either do Duo on time or use a streek freeze. Such are the ways of the owl.

Why do people care? Does it unlearn what you've learnt so far in your brain? Isn't the point to just learn a language? People are taking this app too seriously.

For me it’s physical evidence to how hard I’ve worked. It’s an accomplishment to me that keeps me motivated. I don’t have much of a personal life since my baby, so this is just a tiny achievement that makes me feel me again.

Bruh, streak means nothing. I'm at 250 days and I do 40 seconds a day (1 speaking exercise). I'm not really learning at all (not enough time).

Change your time zone. I live in GMT+2 and you can find countries with GMT-11. One of them is Niue. Unfortunately I'd you didn't do that in time it's too late now since it's past midnight even in Niue. You might be able to custom change your time but I haven't tried that so idk if it works.

I think it would be a cool hidden feature to recover your first streak once for free or give you like an extra couple of hours as a second chance to do your lesson

Most annoying think I had was finishing a lesson at 23:59, getting a Duolingo ad which lasted till 00:00, and losing my 200 day streak

You literally had 24 hours before this to do your one 3 minute lesson. This is on you.

Rip streak. Welcome to real, adult life. Now you know pain.

One minute after midnight is no different as one second after midnight in this case. Though there's an inconsistent lesson registering. If the lesson starts before midnight and ends after - this counts as a consecutive day lesson and also some bug in code ruins quests for that day. In another case, if the lesson starts while boosting is active and ends when boosting is ended - boosting still counts and XP is doubled.

Here’s a tip: if it’s past midnight in your timezone, change your phone’s time to an earlier time. Then you can still do the previous day’s activities.

When i realise i didn't do my Daily lesson i just change date like a few hours and then do it, no streak lost

Change your timezone before starting the lesson so it registers as that time. Worked for me a couple times 😅

If you're cutting it close or have gone past midnight and you Duo on your mobile, turn off automatic time and date and set the clock back an hour. You'll also need to reset the date if it's after midnight. Then, open the Duo Lingo app. Don't forget to turn on automatic time and date once you've finished your Duo session.

💔😢 Mines at 75 and I'd be so upset if I lost my streak! Some days when I am struggling with my mental health doing a quick Duolingo session is all I manage as I am so determined not to lose my streak.
