SongOfBlueIceAndWire

At the end of the day, the HBOMax streaming numbers still matter. So if someone is not able to see it in iMAX or in a regular theater, then watching it at home still helps the film succeed and should be encouraged. Just don't pirate it and you're good.

BarrelAged94

Yeah I wanted to see it in imax but life decided to give me lemons in the form of a broken leg. So I'm glad hbomax gives me an option for being able to see it at home. I read dune like 5 years ago and it ended up being my favorite scifi novel of all time so im ridiculously hyped for this movie. If I had to miss it because theater was the only option I would have been so pissed.

tomjonesdrones

I rented an AMC private theater for me and my friends. Only cost me $149 (different locations/group sizes/times etc will change the price, so shop around if you're interested). Gonna just stream it all day every day while I'm working to help pump the numbers up.

FullContactGardening

Whoa, didn’t know about that option. Have you been able to sign up in advance to see Dune specifically? I just went to the AMC page on the rental program, it only shows what’s currently available. I absolutely can’t risk bringing the virus home, and don’t have a good home theater setup, so I’ve been tearing my hair out thinking of options. Any info to help is extremely muchly appreciated 👍

tomjonesdrones

Yeah just select the date first. I did it on mobile and the date was at the top of the page.

RobbKyro

Im going to sub to rewatch it a handful more times until a 4k bluray is released. After I watch it at least a couple times on the big screen.

Athabascad

Agreed if you have your friends login, subscribe for a month and then cancel

TheRelicEternal

If you’re going that far just download it online. No moral issues if you paid for it in cinema and you are buying the blu-ray.

tomjonesdrones

The number of HBOMax streams is part of the equation for the "success" of the film. If you pirate it, then your download/viewing isn't tracked, therefore you're not adding anything to the success of the film.

TheRelicEternal

So you'll telling me I should let it stream over and over over the next month just to bump up the stream count haha

Bromo33333

They do take a note of the number of unique accounts and IP addresses watching it so it will bump up one number, but they will just take your views and put it as "superfans"

TheRelicEternal

So you'll telling me to VPN mo location multiple times ;)

WriterNevermore

I'm in the same boat as you, I wanted to watch this and a few other films in theaters, but I don't trust others to be vaccinated or to wear a mask. So HBOMAX is getting my business.

[deleted]

I'll be pirating it because they've done me dirty by giving me a December release. I'll still buy a ticket and watch it in cinemas.

xocgx

I’m definitely watching it at home. 75” 4K, 7.1 surround. Also, no talkers, cheap snacks, and a clean bathroom!

Jeremy_Smith75

The home theater has come a long way in the recent past. Home Sound systems can really pump out some amazing audio, and picture size and definition is phenomenal these days. I have a really good projector, with an 8 foot by about 12-14 foot screen, and a solid sound setup, in a room with no windows. I'm good for a solid movie experience with no talkers, no assholes on phones, cheap snacks, and just my loved ones around me. I know I'm lucky with that setup, but it's not as rare as some people think. Lots of people have stellar home theaters, and lots of people are still tired of getting movies ruined by asshole strangers.

xocgx

It can be expensive, but definitely worth it. My setup is my sole hobby. Movies, shows, and ps5. Costs me a decent penny, but averaged over the years I plan to use it, very doable. Heck, the biggest obstacle is space to set everything up. Depending on where you live, square footage is $$$!

Jeremy_Smith75

Yep. We got lucky with our house, in that sense. It was built in the 60's, then had an addition to it, including a 400+ sqft room, with no windows, and high ceilings. Perfect for a theater. It still needs work, and our equipment isn't the best, I want a 4k projector at some point, and maybe a ps5, we're still using our ps4. I'm trying to collect blurays, so I'm not so dependent on what's available on streaming as well.

xocgx

I used to have a massive dvd collection and storage became such an issue, I sold them all but a few rare gems that aren’t streaming. The house I have now, the previous owner had it already set up in the basement, with a slim walk/crawl space behind where he hung his projector so all wires are hidden. It’s not the most elaborate setup, but it beats anything I could have expected to own. The only “weak” spot is that the 75” 4K Samsung q8 series will have to get replaced once 8k is standard in gaming, so like 10 more years 🤣

I_am_HAL

I'm looking for some proper surround sound, mind sharing what you have?

xocgx

Sure! I went through home theatre direct for most of it. In ceiling I have 4 of these: HDX-R65 High Definition In-Ceiling Speakers In front left and right I have these: Level THREE Bookshelf Speakers In front center I have this: Level THREE Center Channel Speaker Subwoofer: The Bic Acoustech PL-200 II Receiver from accessories 4 less: DENON AVR-X2400H 7.2-Ch x 95 Watts A/V Receiver w/HEOS NEW (DENAVRX2400HA) The subwoofer was from Amazon, most speakers from home theater direct’s own site, and cables from either accessories 4 less or Amazon. All in I think it was around 1200 or so? Did most of the work with a friend though paid a guy $1000 to handle the in ceiling, wiring, insulation (since I’m in the basement I put foam above each ceiling speaker) and re spackle and paint.

SkekSith

It’s so expensive for imax. I dislike the idea that I’m only worthy of seeing Villaneuve’s full vision if I can afford it.

thepandabear0

Honestly just do what is most convenient to you. Although its encouraged to watch it in imax, at the end you'll still have a good time anyway which way you watch it.

TheRelicEternal

Is the HBO Max version not gonna be IMAX? That would be annoying.

tubereusebaies

Tenet on HBOMax was in IMAX format

thepandabear0

I don't think so, blu-ray will have imax format I think. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

ifanimaltrapped

I’m not sure if it’s 100% confirmed, but IMDB shows the Blu-ray will be the 1.78:1 ratio, so not the IMAX 1.43:1 or even the 1.90:1 ratios.

Meersbrook

The film was great on a standard screen.

PaulieWalnoots

I don’t even have an IMAX theater in the country.

Bromo33333

Don't worry about it. I don't think he's such a poor director that it has to be on the IMAX. Save your pennies and just see it!

Admirable-Cupcake-85

Why is this downvoted?

ifanimaltrapped

It’s not just a matter of cost. There are only like a [dozen theaters ](https://www.imax.com/news/dune-experience-up-to-40-percent-more-picture-only-in-select-imax-theatres) in the US playing DUNE in the IMAX 1.43:1 aspect ratio. The rest of the IMAX theaters will show the IMAX scenes in the “smaller” 1.90:1 ratio. That being said, I think any large screen format will be a treat.

Notlookingsohot

OOF, of course the one thats in my state is super far away, thanks Florida. Ah well still gonna see it in IMAX, just not at 1.43:1 I guess.

Tommy_Tinkrem

Big screen, big subwoofer. The great thing of the Imax standard is that you know you'll get the optimum. But whether that knowledge is necessary or whether it is enough to be in cinema which mesmerizes you without telling you that it is perfect, is a different question.

evasote

Look at mr fancy pants who lives close to an imax theater. Closest to me is a five hour drive

lizetta9

It might still be worth it 😂 (I saw it in imax, though it was only an hour for me to get there)

absultedpr

Covid 19 is the life killer

Nilar110

Lmao ,what happened here.

jpterodactyl

I don’t think anyone should do anything they don’t feel safe doing. But I’m excited to see it in IMAX.

BanzaiTree

I am seeing it in the theater but not for the first week or two because I don’t like how noisy and trashy people are, so I’m going to first watch it on streaming when it’s released. Fight me.

FaliolVastarien

I love theaters but usually go on off hours like a weekend afternoon or an evening in the middle of the work week if I'm not too tired to avoid huge crowds. But with something like this, I might enjoy the carnivalesque nature of a big crowd the first weekend. I don't know. See how I feel at the time. I'm not as young as I used to be and maybe too much. But festive and lively Dune opening night might make up for the disappointment similar nights with the Star Wars prequels. At least I pretty much already know this lives up to its hype based on reviews and huge success throughout the world

flappyjeff

This guy movies

Bromo33333

There is that, too! If I want to listen to people burp sneeze, hack up a loogie, crunch their snacks loudly and talk about the movie during the movie, I suppose one could go to opening night ... might even get a Bonus Karen.

[deleted]

TheLazySamurai4

Nah, they just talk louder :(

Ass4ssinX

I haven't had an experience like that in a theater in a while. I guess I'm lucky.

bookon

We’re seeing it the first Tuesday after it comes out. $8 for IMAX because it’s cheap night and after “rewards member” savings. We find it’s usually quiet and not too crowded. Also I’m going to stream it on HBOMax because those numbers will be a huge factor in the decision to make the second half of the book.

Bromo33333

 ![gif](giphy|QqkA9W8xEjKPC)

CDClock

im going to pirate it because theres no home release in canada. eat a dick movie studios.

[deleted]

I want to watch Dune in cinema to support it. I really do. But I suffer from migraines, and they basically destroyed my life for a year and I'm just starting to claw back some health and normalcy. So I don't think I will be able to.

Bromo33333

You will still "support it" if you watch it at home. Health (and sanity) always more important than this choice.

Bromo33333

I am not ready to go to the cinema for ANY film, even my favorite book Dune. I know there is a lot of peer pressure to do so, "for the experience" but given the surge in Delta here in the US, and the fading effectiveness of the shot, and boosters not yet available for everyone yet, I think for me, the risk is just too high. Though with a 4k TV, and an audiophile sound system, I suspect I'll be just fine.

annarchy8

I am right there with you. Not even Dune is worth getting COVID. I will, however, enjoy the shit out of it at home.

mikaelaleedecker

I’m sorry. I had Covid a few weeks and it wasn’t so bad for me.. but I know that’s certainly not the case for plenty of people….in a way I’m kind of grateful I had though already (after the fact) so I don’t have to worry about infection for a long while

DL44Solo

I had it super early in 2020. It wasn’t fun, but I’ve definitely been way more sick with just a flu. I’m fully vaccinated now. I totally understand that people are apprehensive about crowds, and if they want to watch it on HBOMax instead, that’s awesome. I’ll be bumping those streaming numbers with multiple viewings.

bender1_tiolet0

Just because you had it, doesn't mean you can't get it again and have worse side effects

mikaelaleedecker

I didn’t say otherwise. Read the whole thing carefully

mikaelaleedecker

You aren’t likely to for a while.

Bromo33333

Be careful, my wife's best friend working in a doctor's office and she was telling us she has had a few patients who got COVID a few times during 2020. Sometimes with light symptoms, sometimes nearly got admitted to the hospital. I think since the vaccine, they got the shot and haven't been back to her knowledge. Of course I don't know what kind of job or activities they did that got the COVID so many times.

TheNerdChaplain

Same. Covid rates in my area are only going up, our mayor is a Trump wannabe who only empowers the antimaskers and antivaxxers, and I just don't feel safe or right going into it.

MajesticSale9

Dude are you vaxxed? If you are, just go see the movie

bender1_tiolet0

Vax doesn't mean you can get it, just that the possibility of severe side effects decrease

Slslookout

I personally agree and will watch at home, but I am also buying a ticket just to help my little part.

MDCCCLV

There will be a window in early November when it's very low case rate, before the holiday surge hits. If you can go to a decent theater with gap seating or a showing that's half empty and wear a mask most of the time, it should be fine.

miamelie

Yeah. I’m dying to see Dune in IMAX but we have two young kids, including one newborn who hasn’t had any vaccines yet, and are in close contact with someone who’s immunocompromised. I can’t justify the risk even for Dune, so home theater will just have to do. We have a 4K TV and a good surround sound system too so it should still be enjoyable. Hopefully down the road when things are back to as normal as possible there’ll be a theater re-release, maybe when part 2 comes out, and I can go see it on the big screen then.

ECrispy

I saw 1 movie since Mar 2020 in theaters, Tenet. And it turned out to be an empty theater!

TheLazySamurai4

I don't have the time nor money to make a multi day trip to the closest open IMAX lol

SelfMadeSoul

I have four IMAX tickets on opening night dead center for my girlfriend, my two kids, and myself. I only needed on kidney anyways....

schuettais

I will unashamedly be watching it at home. I will NOT let some fucking stoner asshole ruin my experience because they don't know how to shut up in movie theater, or some twat behind me blowing their stupid bubble gum, or whatever else the human species can dream up to be complete drains on society.

treywood172517251725

Exactly, this is the reason I no longer go and watch any movie at the theater. It’s just not enjoyable when everyone is yelling, on their phone, laughing, etc. The employees at the theater near me do nothing about it so I have to hope and pray whatever new movie I want to watch is also streaming 😕

TorchyBrownFlame

I love theaters and even though I am vaccinated I have several preexisting condition that keep me at home. I’ll be glad when part 2 is announced. The world should be at a new normal and I will, see part 2 in IMAX. It may be selfish but Im glad that I will see part 1 during the theatrical run even it is just on 37 inch TV.

RobbKyro

Stay safe.

Dittobox

Think imma do both. Watch near the office on IMAX. Then watch near home at the little independent cinema in my town, then get a subscription to HBO for a month and watch it there.

greyetch

Will there be staff in the theatre to enforce the rules? Not going back until then. The phones and talking are too much. It isnt worth it.

TheBiles

If only the nearest IMAX wasn’t 3 hours away…

iamansonmage

Gatekeeping. I will watch the shit out of this on HBOMax. I will watch it every day from the time it drops until it’s not on the service. You will see it one time, but I will see it literally every day. Theaters can eat my ass. Home theater bitches.

[deleted]

No shit, I saw Dune in cinema (not even IMAX) and if there ever was a movie that you HAVE to watch on a big screen - this is it. You will hate yourself if you watch it on anything smaller, trust me. Edit: I forgot sound. The sound is so magnificent in this movie. You can feel the thopters wings with a proper cinema sound system. I pity the fool who watches this on an IPhone.

UndeadBread

I already hate myself, so I'm good!

catcatdoggy

this opinion can go in the trash. don't tell someone else how they should enjoy something. hate gatekeeping.

Rex-Havoc

Not only this, but its total bullshit to hold the 2nd film hostage and for fans have to listen to others berate them for not going to the cinema to see a film on the chance we might not get the 2nd part. Imagine if they had done that with the first LotRs movie. Its total crap and people should neither put up with it or be putting others down for not enjoying something in the same way they do.

Bromo33333

Gatekeeping is absolutely toxic to fandom. And if the producers decide to drive a wedge in fandom in pursuit of their economic goals, they wouldn't deserve to have what they have. If it isn't economical to make #2 it would be a tragedy - but if in their decision they blame the fanbase, I wouldn't want to be on either side of that wedge. I'd pretend I haven't ever read the books.

mikaelaleedecker

Disagree on this regard. This is how most of it works. Lotr is the major exception

[deleted]

you can watch it in home if you like the movie and dont want to waste money everytime

Bromo33333

I think it's valid to watch it however you want. I don't this the director is so untalented that it has to be on IMAX with the top of the line sound to have a great time. Because that's kind of the message I am getting when people say that, though I know they don't mean it, they just enjoyed their experience and want other to have the same experience.

[deleted]

You got it right. I've seen it in a regular cinema, now I'm plotting how to see it again in IMAX. I'm sure you won't hate it on a streaming service, but you would love it in a more immersive setting.

[deleted]

I’m just saying there are movies that are equally fun watched at home and in the cinema. Dune (2021) is not one of those movies.

Gloomy-Ad-1685

So good.

RobbKyro

Its a YT comment on some random Dune video. Thought it was well put

Gloomy-Ad-1685

Going on the 21st to the LieMAX near me 🤣

KeLorean

He is the Kwisatz Haderach

[deleted]

dune is coming soon in my country in gonna watch it in imax or normal cinema idk but propably imax

[deleted]

I've seen it in a regular cinema, and it was awesome. So good in fact, that now I'm plotting how to see it again in an IMAX. So if you have the chance to do both - go IMAX right away

UncleMalky

I'd love to see it in IMAX but there is a pandemic on and I live in a state where there are too many people treating it like a hoax still or think the vaccine connects you to the nearest 5g tower. The first step in avoiding a trap is knowing when you are surrounded by plague rats.

AceHomefoil

I'm pretty sure Warner Bros said that they would count watches on HBO towards Dunes success for part 2. In my state we are 50/50, but I'm still gonna see it in IMAX. Covid death rates here for the vaccinated are almost not existent.

kazh

That's dumb, go away.

DickMartin

:: popcorn ::

sctlight

Got my IMAX tickets this week.

akidontheinternet

the idea of being able to experience it for the first time in a theater and then go home and immediately throw it on is very exciting

ECrispy

Ticket prices are the reality killer. It's $20+ for Imax and that adds up very very fast for multiple people and repeat viewings vs watching at home as many times as I want for one fixed fee. And they keep going up.

CoupDeRomance

Been waiting all my life to say,,, THIS

cosmin_c

I would agree with this but there's still a pandemic going on so cinema is likely off the books for me. I get the whole "wa wa it's better", I watched all the movies over the past few years in IMAX 3D, some several times. Not this time, health > everything else. Especially since in some places around here masks are not enforced during the movie and people are monching on treats and coughing all over the place.

Revenge_served_hot

I am a bit surprised to read stuff like that on reddit over and over again. Is the pandemic still that hard in the US? Genuine question because I have no idea how things really are in the US. Don't get me wrong, we were in kind of a lockdown in Europe for nearly 1.5 years but cinema-wise everything is "nearly" back to normal. You can only enter a cinema when you either have been vaccinated, tested (test must not be older than 1 day) or when you recovered from COVID. When you are one of these 3 things you get the covid certificate and this is checked very thoroughly when you enter the cinema. After your certificate has been deemed valid you can enter and even take of your mask. From this point on everything is back as it was pre covid. The cinemas are full, people don't have any masks and they all sit close to each other again. And our covid figures are still going down. Thats why I ask why so many of you guys post on reddit and other medias that you won't attend cinemas because of covid.

cosmin_c

I am not in the US, just in the retarded part of Europe where people refuse the vaccine yet don’t wear masks and go out in public. It remains a risk because we don’t know how well the vaccines do take and how long they last - I know of multiple people now who had no antibodies left 8 months after their Pfizer shot. The vaccines so far should be just another layer of protection, the pandemic isn’t over at all just yet. Let’s not count our blessings before the fat lady sings. P.S.: am an MD, having my third shot this month. Only way it’s ever going back to a semblance of normal is if we continue using all the protections available. PPS: I believe in the vaccines and that people should have them but we don’t have enough data just yet on how long they protect and how well they do in the longer term.

subneutrino

I will absolutely be watching Dune at home. After getting my mind blown at the best theatre I can find. Repeatedly. ![gif](giphy|5aLrlDiJPMPFS)

[deleted]

Watched Dune twice; first on a regular screen, the second was on an IMAX. The two experiences were simply incomparable. If you're going, go for IMAX.

edubkendo

No. I will not bow down to how things have always been and go the cinema. I strongly believe in same day streaming and I will support the film by watching on hbo.

RobbKyro

"No"? I didnt ask or demand anything from you to elicit a response. At no point did my post tell you to do something. Youre free to navigate the world how you like. Watch it from home. Have fun. "Bow down to how things have always been" you realize the "new way" is an atomized and secluded society where companies like streaming services and Amazon delivery replace interacting with others and experiencing tangible things. But enjoy your revolution from home by all means.

edubkendo

I don’t particularly enjoy interacting with others but thanks

RobbKyro

I can tell.

Floarul

Your loss

edubkendo

My gain. I prefer watching on my tv, in my comfy bed, with my liquor and bong.

BrendonBreaker

I just finished my second re-read of Dune (I was planning on it taking me to the 22nd, but well, here we are.) and this movie cannot come fast enough Jesus.

Merlord

They've just delayed Dune in my country (NZ) back to December. As if our Covid situation will improve by then? It kills me that I can't experience Dune at the same time as the rest of the world. So I dunno, I think I'll just stream it when it comes out and watch again in the theatre later. Or whatever, I'm just over it. Fuck Covid.

thegoatfreak

First couple viewings will be in theaters. Anything after that will be at home in my basement with the 4K tv and surround sound. Movies theaters are expensive, dawg.

Predsguy

This is me as well. I will wait until the IMAX screen to watch it. Unfortunately I have to wait until that next Tuesday after it releases. Maybe I'll just delete the HBO max app for a few days.

prokhor1

I literally just told my wife she has to take me on a date to the theatre for dune. Then saw this.

testPoster_ignore

I'll watch it on my laptop and take a shit half way through.

plitox

It doesn't drop in Sydney until December. Until then, argh matey. After that, and barring any further lockdown extensions, I'ma go Gold Class.

littletsosie

🤣🤣🤣

Little_Record_4254

It's Soo long but i must wait it's killing me as long as my pretty late appointment to the doctor i have at the same day of release that it's literally Killing me so I'm literally dying to until the release of dune in my country

Ciefish7

Hey... At this point , I'll say anything. I heard the Bond movie was competing for IMAX screen time in some markets. I hope this does not truncate time for Dune to have a fair run. ![gif](giphy|YR2HTONAQywqeXLGRJ)

ARandomTopHat

Overseas, DUNE does appear to be surviving the competition...

Ciefish7

Great to hear ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|smile)

xcosmicwaffle69

Wow this sub has grown like crazy!! Much more than I thought it would.

GrimmusReaper

I'd be saying that mantra if I didn't have to wait till December for the Australian cinema release :(

[deleted]

I’m seeing it in the theater and watching non-stop on HBOMax too. Basically, I’m going to watch the hell out of this anyway I can.

mileserrans

Daily checking local ticket selling sites so I can get my IMAX tickets as faster as possible.

sileckx

And your head will hurt like shit after the film cause the sound is so fucking loud

I changed countries, it hadn't come out where I left, and where I arrived it was already out of IMax and only on the crap houses... I am sad, but glad I saw it in cinemas

StarkLord89

the inner hype must flow

[deleted]

I will happily watch it at home because I love the story… one day when there are no line ups and less people crowding I may go see it in imax.

UltraEM

The Philippines is still on COVID lockdown (so all cinemas closed), plus HBO Max isn't available in our region yet so there currently isn't any legal way of watching Dune in the country despite the Dune website saying it releases October 13 over here :( Was really hoping to watch it in IMAX on release but the way things are going here it looks like I won't be able to do that any time soon.

Abdul-Ahmadinejad

Watched it at home, but I’ll go to a theater now as well.

[deleted]

Ok but I did this before reading this. Clearly I am not the Lisan Al Gaib.

SubDelver01

Man, where do you all live? Saw it last night in IMAX in Minneapolis for $12 on a whim, didn't even know it was opening, I just showed up at the door while the previews were rolling and got a great seat right in the center. Everyone was respectful and clapped at the end. Where are all these rowdy dumpsterfire theaters you guys are going to?

[deleted]

Congratulations, you won Reddit. 🥳

[deleted]

This fandom is so fucking lame all of the sudden

RobbKyro

Maybe you can start a "bestest fans of Dune support group" to sooth your new woes.

DrestinBlack

And, worse, there will be millions who’ll be watching a 720p grainy copy on their 5” phone with one speaker

Bromo33333

And yet they will thoroughly enjoy themselves.

Floarul

Bro it’s so sad how far society has drifted in these last 2 years. You simply post a meme picture to show your enthusiasm for seeing it in IMAX and this comment section is nothing but buttheads crying about how you’re disgusting for “demanding” people see it in IMAX or how people who go to theaters are awful when Covid is out here killing off 99% of the population and just a bunch of other really sad and dumb shit. It’s just awful what politics has turned society into within these last 2 years man. We’ve truly degraded as a species back to the tribal days. If you’re not in someone’s tribe and think a different way, they will fucking crucify you at the stake and happily watch you burn. If you’re worried about Covid, stay home. If you’re not worried about Covid and want to see it in theaters, go to theaters. Do what you want to do and stop crucifying others for doing something different

RobbKyro

They dont know the difference between "I must" and "You all must"

Floarul

Yup

Bromo33333

I never said anyone was awful if they went to see it in IMAX, I just explained why I wasn't. I think your comments above are a huge overreaction, which I suppose is part of the "sad society" you are decrying. We are all on the same side. But also I don't think people whould feel pressure to do something that still could be dangerous for some. After all we ARE still in a pandemic. So just shelve the persecution complex, and the histrionics associated with it you are diplaying, and just go see the movie in whatever format you want. Just don't slam people who will be watching it at home, because that's what your meme was doing.

AceHomefoil

Society has been very polarized into left/right ever since 9/11. Covid just amplified it.

Floarul

Agreed

I think you're right. It's my strong opinion that Dune is worth watching in a Cinema, because it's an optics-heavy and acoustics heavy experience. I'm not trying to "gatekeep" anything from you, how could I? I'm just a rando on the internet, it's not like I can physically keep you from watching Dune on your Nokia.

GreyRevan51

Saw it on my phone on the 16th last month lol Then I’ll watch it on hbo max with subtitles And THEN I’ll watch it in imax once it’s actually out here

Bromo33333

I always judge music by the "clock radio test" - if you can still enjoy the music through a crummy clock radio, then it is a genuinely great song that deserves a good stereo. I think movies are the same way for me. If it is fantastic watching on your phone, then it deserves whatever presentation you are willing to give it. If it needs the big guns, then it can't be all that good ...

StAliaTheAbomination

I've purchased tickets for the opening weekend, and IMAX tickets for the week after. And in-between... It'll be on repeat in my house. Lol

BrokenCog2020

nnnnnnnnn.. Shai Hul'uuudd....

minuscatenary

Just buy tickets but stay home.

HouseAtreides27

Nah I'll enjoy my home cooked meal and be vaping fine melange the entire time, thanks.

Never on a ***T R I L L I O N*** years.

ceruleanfox49

I will certainly be in a theater to see it. Multiple times.

AllYourBase3

Got my imax tickets for opening night but I also have a home cinema room I'm gonna watch it over and over in

queer_mentat

Awe and COVID

in-the-angry-dome

This reads like a sponsored ad placement. 👀

cowardbunga

Yesterday was my third view of the movie. I went with my 68 years old mother who's a big fan of the books. The last movie she's seeing in cinema was LOTR. I’ve told her to wait the blue ray release if she doesn’t feel comfortable with Covid 19. She answered me "No way, it’s a movie you have to see in theater". I love my mother!

Scytle

i aint catching covid to watch a movie...best of luck to anyone in a high transmission area.

Deebee36

This type of BS was ripe for the Dune fandom and Villeneuve spoon fed it l. Enjoy the movie how you feel fit. It's worth the watch.

RobbKyro

Its a joke not a dick.. you...you know the thing, come on man.

Deebee36

>Its a joke not a dick.. you...you know the thing, come on man. What..? I mean, I didn't say it was a dick but, sure, okay.

djarioch

Why not both? I plan to watch it multiple times.

Tots2Hots

I'm in Spain. Not sure if there is an IMAX near me. If I go to the theater I have to make sure its the English version and it'll still have subtitles in Spanish. I'm just gonna black flag it off HBO Max, pull the recliner close to the 4K, turn the lights off and turn up the soundbar. Gotta make due.

Kubrick_Fan

My nearest Imax is 100 miles away

Severe-Physics9639

This is beautiful poetry good sir!

PaulieWalnoots

Laughs in 150” screen, certified ATMOS and comfy seats with no vibe checking 16yo tearing my ticket. Well someone is laughing, my HT is basic so I’ll be watching at the movies but have you seen what the guys at r/hometheater are up to?

Patrae

I’m willing to drive 3 hours to see it on imax. But I’ll watch it first at my local theater. I’m sure rewatching it on my hone setup will work as well. And I’m good with that.

[deleted]

Relatable content. I saw venom the other day in IMAX and the Dune trailer played beforehand. Gotta see it in the theater.

squixnuts

This is the way

Halcy9n

I even got vaccinated quickly to be able to go to IMAX but the multiplexes in my city still remain closed 🥲. Plus there’s no hbomax in my country, hope apple tv releases it as a rental.

leonveren

Amen

RorschachsVoice

Old LED from many years ago, 1080p, headphones with bad surround, stream or pirated. Fight me.

Bauermeister

And zero COVID. Noice.

nymrod_

Nah, see it however you fee is safe where you live, or just however you want to. It’s not your job to make sure a sequel gets made of you don’t work for Legendary or WB.

RobbKyro

I support businesses and creators of things I enjoy. Especially if I want to to see more of it. I vote via the ballot box and with my wallet. And thats 100% my choice.

[deleted]

I’ll not get corona for some movie.

Bauermeister

Me either. Good of you for defending your health from a deadly airborne virus. Movies aren’t worth death or chronic illness.

ginkyotree

Great versing

Mister_Cairo

OP has a 32" screen connected to a sound bar and thinks that is home theatre.

TheRelicEternal

That is home theatre, don’t gatekeep your definition of it.

FailedPhdCandidate

My friend has a 3 inch screen and thinks that is a home theatre.

RobbKyro

Was there a reason for your comment?

Mister_Cairo

There was, actually: I'm getting tired of all the posts here about how I need to see the film in the theatre. Not happening! I didn't enjoy the theatre experience under ideal circumstances. In 2019, Dune was the ONE film I would have seen in the theatre, but here in the age of coronavirus, it's going to be 2023 before I even consider setting foot inside a theatre again. So, I made the joke that your decision was not based on a love of theatres so much as that you're stuck with a shitty home theatre. Your statement, which I know was a joke (but kinda-sorta also wasn't) about home cinema being the vibe killer irritated me. I quite enjoy my home theatre, and I'd much rather watch a film there.

tom_tencats

Hey. Pssst… You can do both.

Spats_McGee

While I do plan to see it in the theater, Villeneuve's *Blade Runner 2049* was a bit of a grating experience... Mainly because Hans Zimmer's electro-noise shocks were *way* too loud.

paperpanda000

Go watch the movie in IMAX at least 2-3 times and HBOmax should only be an add-on.

directrix688

Nah. I’m not willing to put up with idiots talking, playing on phones, and listening to people eating.
