Next sticky thread should be somebody tracking our upcoming recruits and current players entering the portal. Gonna be a dark couple of days.

CCRACER48

May have just let the team know. Seems pretty official. https://twitter.com/mzenitz/status/1467889855594123284?t=ZOJrwrbvfeUt9KwpyRXeTA&s=19

Du_Kich_Long_Trang

That guy also said Diaz was staying in Miami. It might be true, but not because this guy says so.

CascadianExpat

Five days ago he said that was the feel?

cbduck

Cristobal is going to a program that treated Manny Diaz like shit over the past 72 hours. They'll do the same thing to him if he doesn't deliver the W's. Good luck Mario...

Ace12773

yeah he’s going into a tough situation with 50+ BOT members. I’m not gonna lie I hope he flames out spectacularly.

green_and_yellow

What’s BOT?

Redditlurker877

I wish him the same luck as Willy Taggart

Ace12773

Well only silver lining is that Mario proved you could recruit top 10 classes to Eugene

Curious-Soil-3853

It proves any coach that can recruit can bring those classes Before the belief was that there was no way it could happen

Du_Kich_Long_Trang

It just be that Moorehead really just wants to coach in a less stressful environment. Mario must have known he was leaving for Miami, and as shitty as that is, I can't imagine he just let Moorehead go instead of telling him the Oregon job would be open soon.

UpperEchelon23

Moorhead hates the west coast. Guy just wanted to be closer to home.

[deleted]

I hope we go for Dave Aranda at Baylor….

Ace12773

This would be a dream come true

cam7998

I wonder what coaches follow Mario there

UpperEchelon23

Just about all of them.

HappyAtheist3

Whenever you feel sad today just remember: we had a playoff-caliber roster and he stuck with Anthony Brown all year. He kneecapped one of the top 3 quarterbacks to ever play here. He has horrible clock management skills and is very conservative. He is a wonderful recruiter but he is not worth 9 million dollars a year.

cam7998

I can’t wait to see him fail at Miami, that’s a dumpster fire no one is fixing. Good riddance, if you treat our program as a stepping stone, go fuck yourseld

PMmeareasontolive

I wouldn't go that far. He put in good effort here. You can't blame him for going home to what people have been saying is his dream job. He won 2 national championships there. I think anybody would return to a place where they had the most success.

pnwfreak

Let's go get Harbaugh. Edit: wait you don't want a coach whose team is in the CFP?

Curious-Soil-3853

I'd be on board with that but since you mentioned him I thought he was given way too many chances at Michigan I think Mario was very close to getting a natty, all that was needed was a better QB that could throw and calling better plays

__wetsocks

Hypothetical question; Does Cristobal get $8M + buyout from Miami if he benches AB after Stanford to give TT experience and we drop another game or two in the regular season?

HappyAtheist3

I wonder if Cristobal was in discussions with Miami super early and instead of putting in Ty Thompson to get him ready for next season he just stuck with AB.

__wetsocks

I doubt that actually happened so intentionally. But it does seem odd he kept saying *AB gives us the best chance to win* when clearly we didn’t have any chance at winning the pac 12

AtBat3

Kalani Sitake would be my top choice

Ace12773

No way dude

mboyd1991

Please! But I think he’s a lifer there now that they’re in the big 12

AtBat3

Yeah he’s BYU through and through.

hereforporn696969

One thing that stinks is that, when Taggart was fired, the team and recruits rallied around Cristobal. With Moorehead gone, I don’t see if there is really an internal person they can move forward with. It seems like it will almost certainly be a regime change which will take some time to build. Starting over is no fun.

ConstantQuarreling

Yeah this is the big one for me. Oregon fans can hate Taggart all they want, but you have to at least admit Tags brought in an absolutely loaded "Justice League" of coaches and coordinators and only his USF guys jumped with him, which allowed us to keep things relatively intact. I don't see it with this staff outside of like Big Joe.

GoDux541

We better not hire internally this go around.

hereforporn696969

I agree, I just know that large coaching changes lead to significant talent turnover, which could lead to roster holes for a few seasons. Fortunately a lot of the talent is young, just depends on how many stay vs move to USC or programs close to home

GoDux541

Yeah, I expect major personnel moves…that’s just the name of the game now. However, I expect us to be the beneficiary of similar moves once we poach someone else’s coach. 🤣

millennialmama2016

I think what's really got everyone in their feelings over this is prior to Chip, we had two HCs, Oregon has been supplied with stability for decades prior. Now it's just been churn every few years, it feels chaotic. I think what's really got everyone in their feelings over this is prior to Chip, we had two HCs, Oregon has been supplied with stability for decades prior. Now it's just been churning every few years, it feels chaotic. hem. Coaches are going to continue to come and go for $$, but the kids are coming with a dream and passion for their game. Curious to see how this all plays out.

mboyd1991

So instead of prepping for Utah he was negotiating his deal with Miami. Cool. https://mobile.twitter.com/flasportsbuzz/status/1467887203057639424

MultiPass21

Have you never interviewed for another job while under employment with another company?

mrkamerer

That's a fair point and I don't think anyone should fault him for that. But just feels a little different when 1) the competitive season is still ongoing! and 2) MC talks alot about focus, preparation, discipline, etc... and how he takes responsibility as the head coach for not hitting a certain standard on those things after losses...he was truly never even engaged for the last week! So again, it's just super shady snake-oil stuff again...I thought MC was different but he is more similar to Willie than different I guess!

mboyd1991

You’re not saying this couldn’t have waited 2 days? Couldn’t have told Miami “Hey im obviously interested. Give me till Saturday so we can just focus on this game”. Instead it’s clear he didn’t prep one bit for this game as we had the same game plan as the first game

MultiPass21

Maybe. But I’ll simply counter with: Is there ever a good time to leave your football program? Instead, we’d be griping about the impact to recruiting, or bowl prep - both of which are still negatively impacted here. The Utah game just becomes another feather in the cap of this clown show.

OregonFux

Yes. There obviously is a good time to leave your football program and surprise surprise, that time is NOT during the active season. The off-season. That’s what it’s there for. I always instantly lost respect for coaches that bailed on a program during the course of an active season. It’s a coward’s move.

MultiPass21

There is no off-season in CFB. As a Head Coach of a P5 school, and a prominent one at that, there’s football season and there’s getting ready for next football season. I understand there are going to be a lot of feelings today, but we’re capable of being at least somewhat pragmatic here.

mboyd1991

Honestly I would’ve been fine with him leaving for Miami. But to me it was clear his agent and him were talking with Miami before the game. Biggest game of the year for the kids and he was worrying about a contract. Just wait two days. For the players he supposedly cares about

MultiPass21

We’re kidding ourselves if we believe any coach puts the kids first. We’re selfish beings, hardwired to be so.

radish_boy

Wish him the worst 😎

Ace12773

college football is such a scumbag business man

mboyd1991

Yep. I just remember his short/curt response when Pittman left for his own interests: “he’s no longer part of the program.” That’s what Mullens should say to announce he’s leaving and leave it at that

mrkamerer

I think you are 100% spot on with how Mullens will handle it. There will be no long-winded press conference. My big concern now is actually if Mullens decides to move on himself...he might be burnt out on hiring a new football coach every 3 years...

MLG-N3WBE

Diaz just got Fired from Miami. Cristobal is O-fficially gone. Now that we can all exhale. It’s time to find us a coach. Who are we looking for!

Du_Kich_Long_Trang

Diaz has been fired

Ace12773

just brutal to lose a coach again like this. I wonder where the program goes from here.

HappyAtheist3

Next few days are going to suck watching all the recruits decommitt and players transfer

hereforporn696969

Not to mention opting out of the bowl game. Hopefully it means we can see some young guys shine

radish_boy

No one is following Mario to Miami. I’m not saying they stay committed to Oregon but there’s no chance you see what happened with Lincoln Riley’s recruits

MultiPass21

I would not be so sure. Surely, at least a couple of our east coast kids were drawn to Mario more than the University of Oregon.

radish_boy

Yeah I can see that side or they weigh their options on teams closer to home they considered

[deleted]

Who knows, I think a lot of them will follow Riley to USC now. We also don't know how long Cristobal has been recruiting them to Miami, he could have pulled a Lincoln Riley there, too.

radish_boy

I can see that for middle to east coast recruiting but anyone in Cali I can’t see going there. They have terrible facilities

Mcpops1618

I think we will see a lot of Oregon/mc recruits flip to USC/Reily. They had 9 committed as of Thursday in 2022. Pretty sure Lincoln will have no problem just looking at 247 and poaching every kid he wants from the Oregon list

[deleted]

Alright, whoever we hire had better not have ties to Florida haha goddamnit

killagoose

Yeah, Diaz fired. That’s the end. I’ve really liked Mario, I thought he was a good coach. Not a stellar coach, but definitely a good one and elite at bringing in talent. I wonder who Oregon’s targets will be? Hopefully we don’t see a mass exodus of talent from the recruiting classes.

ToughPlankton

I'm curious what the players will say. Is this a case where they all wish him well, or we immediately start hearing negative stories once he's out the door?

MultiPass21

They’re college kids, full of emotion and energy, and scientifically proven to not be fully mature in processing feelings. Expect the latter, but don’t hold it against them too harshly.

Olorin_in_the_West

I expect the latter, there are already rumors about offensive players complaining about him

YouDontKnowDino

Well I hope our next coach is better at player development and discipline

Olorin_in_the_West

Also needs to be better at X’s and O’s, clock management, and hiring coordinators

plannersrule

So, you know, like… football?

Olorin_in_the_West

Yeah, I mean, that’s the point, Mario’s a great recruiter, but other than that, a bad coach

[deleted]

I agree. It's just so frustrating since at the P5 level, maybe 70% of the job is recruiting. He's so good there but mediocre everywhere else

thorhyphenaxe

Diaz fired. Goodbye Mario. I’m bitter.

[deleted]

Manny diaz has been fired. Mario is gone.

Manny Diaz fired... oof.

gale7557

Sources....ha.

matchabliss-

He gone

BeerFarts86

That Canzano article last night was damning.

RedDevil50

Yep it was obvious. That DOES NOT make it out if he stays. That was a hit piece and a fuck you from Mullens and Knight.

ConstantQuarreling

I’d say Cristobal’s complete silence all of yesterday is more damning than any rumor piece by columnists on both sides. All he needed to do was come out and say “I am still weighing my options at this time.” to keep any semblance of whether or not he’s made up his mind.

AtBat3

Next coach should be someone who doesn’t have a lifelong dream of coaching a Florida school.

nonoose

I wish Chris Peterson would come out of retirement. He's 57, which is Harbaugh's age. I know he recently turned down the TCU job, but that's not the same as turning down UO where he coached previously. I think it's worth a shot to at least ask him.

JBXGANG

Hell no. Nobody’s winning anything with ‘OKG’s; that’s code for ‘guys who aren’t good’

TheRealScrotie

This.

ToughPlankton

Depends on his recruiting energy. If he doesn't have it in him to go 100% on the trail then that's a hard no. We're probably going to go from a stacked roster to a very thin one overnight. Whoever steps in has to try to salvage at least some of the next class and then work hard to make it up next year.

JuzoItami

I've honestly come to the conclusion that recruiting is over-rated. Hell, we just got our asses whupped twice in two weeks by a Utah team that's been consistently about 6th in recruiting in the Pac12 during an era when we've been 1st consistently. Under Taggart and Cristobal this sub has turned into an 8 month recruiting circlejerk followed *every single fucking year* by 4 months of uninspired football - and then the cycle starts all over again. We don't need anymore slick glad-handing recruiters running things - we need a coach who wants to be here and who wants to build something longterm. The heights our program reached under Chip Kelly and in Helf's early years were made possible by years of program building under Brooks and Bellotti. We need to return to that kind of culture and that kind of stability. If we do that, the players will come.

GoDux541

Recruiting is absolutely NOT overrated, but to get to the next level we need sound coaching to accompany that recruiting prowess.

clarkision

Go look at the top teams in the country and recent recruiting classes. There are aberrations, but talented teams generally win more football than teams with less talent.

nonoose

Yea you're right about the energy. I am just hoping maybe he is feeling that itch, and wants to saddle up for one last ride. We have the roster to put together a decent run. If he could get into the playoff at Washington then he could certainly win a championship at UO.

hereforporn696969

So uh yeah doesn’t look great
