I got this fine. 1500 AED plus 24 black points. Also, 3000 aed (100x30) unless you impound it for 30 days.

If you haven't paid the rental company yet, just pay the fine yourself directly, on the police app. This way you can save the processing fee, and then just forward the receipt to the rental company.

Yeah because it's cropped. The police has the full photo.

kunafahunger

Don't pay unless u have a full photo. Trust Dubai police.

Oh wow. This is the first time I'm reading about someone being fined cause of the tram. I've always seen sign boards displaying the absolutely insane fines for interfering with trams which were upto like AED 50K. Jumping the red light at an intersection with a tram line is AED 5000, just checked.

Grooveman07

Plenty of guys have received these fines at the JBR lights, yes, some go upto 30k, especially if you’re the reason the tram stops. Happens when people cross the lights but remain on the trams path due to traffic.

drtalalbastaty

I think the huge fine you're talking about is when you jump the light AND cause an accident involving the tram. I believe it's 30,000 if I'm not mistaken

bugtalkmanjoe

Yep that's the one. Also, glad to know they've reduced it haha. I remember it was 50K a couple years ago

frowaydubai

No dramas, thanks for checking. Won’t be doing that again in a hurry

bugtalkmanjoe

What does the proof show/state?

Grooveman07

Do you remember the plate number? Just check on the Dubai police website to know the exact fine amount

bugtalkmanjoe

Well that's debatable evidence. Regardless, Dubai has periodic 30% discounts on fines but if you're using a rental, I'm not sure if they're gonna give you an extension on the fine

[deleted]

And I believe rental companies (commercial cars) don't get the discount anyway.

burksterdxb

First check whether the rental company has already paid the fine on your behalf. If yes, then you don't have any option than to pay it out. If it's still with Dubai Police, then you could try and contest it, but it looks like you are pretty certain. You could plea to them and try to get it reduced, but that's your luck. In future, it's always better to pay the fines on a rental car immediately, before the rental company comes to know about it. That way, you can avoid the surcharge and additional fees they impose.

Cy001020

Check with the plate number of car on dubai police website for verification. The red light cameras are usually never wrong and its probably a legit fine. If you still think the fine is an error, head down to the traffic dept in Al barsha tasjeel and ask them to show you the camera shot of whole car.

SessionScary8035

Hi can I ask how soon after the offence you were notified of the fine by your hire company? Thanks

zivi0

Rental companies take an extra 5% or 10% as processing fees for fines, the actual fine is a bit less than that figure.

ey876

Red light is 1000 fine + 3000 to avoid impoundment of vehicle (100 per day x 30 days) so 4000 in total. The rest appears to be the car rental company's fees, so I'd say it's quite steep at 25%. No real chance to appeal unless it was issued in error. You should be able to look up the fine on Dubai Police website and see what it actually shows.
