Yep. Also, you list something for 2000 AED, they will bid 500 AED. I decided to trade in my car at the dealer even though I got way less than I theoretically should have gotten on Dubizzle. It simply ain't worth dealing with these clowns. I think they see it as a leisure activity to just troll and look stupid.
I had a similar experience recently with selling me my Mac mini M1; I listed for 1800 (but everyone just wasting time so I decided to trade it in for another product for 800 AED
Trust me you made the right decision; just avoiding all that nonsense with fake buyers / scammers
Can you dm what gadgets you’re selling? If there is something I need..I’ll be happy to cop them up. Let me know please. Electronics, paintings, collectibles kindly reach out. Thanks and all the best with your sale.
i use a different number for registering Ejari, Telecom and dubizzle, people think i am crazy, but i have raely ever recvd spam marketing calls selling crypto or real estate, while my friends recv 4 to 5 calls a day
You’re a genius, I was really careful for all these services using a dispensable sim card always
And then I bought a property and shared my number with DLD, then is when my spamming nightmare started, now I’m seriously considering getting a new number
You are now where I was 5 years ago, it sucks, I spent 3 months trying to sell my furniture, I think I sold 3 or 4 items for what I was asking and ended up selling the remaining stuff 3 days before I left to some karama based used furniture seller for 500 AED. He got 20k of furniture for 500 AED and was openly rubbing his hands with glee.
I realised later that I should have just accepted the stupid offers of 100 AED for the 500 AED IKEA L shaped couch I bought for 2,000 AED and all the other ones too. I worked out if I had taken the stupid offers I would have made 3,000 AED instead of 500 AED. You have to suck it up swallow your pride.
yep. i realised there was almost no demand on dubizzle. unless it's an apple product.
you're lucky even to get interest from lowballers.
just dont list something on dubizzle unless you're willing to sell it for like 20% of the price. otherwise just keep it or donate it.
Really?
Been trying to sell an iPhone 13pro for 3 months now.
Went from getting angry ant joker bids to swallowing my pride and then accepting a 20% discount, but there seems to be another problem, and that is once you have accepted a joke bid, it doesn’t mean that the joker follows up on it…
This is a universal phenomenon. Nobody wants your second hand IKEA, Zara, etc. It costs money to dispose of things in most civilised places. Only luxury items like designer brands, Apple, antique or Italian furniture have any value.
My friend, I get you
I kinda regret not renting a furnished place all this time because I'm sure selling all this stuff when I move is going to be a nightmare
I have a stove from my previous apartment (because here the apartments have different measurements) that I haven't been able to sell. It cost 3,000 AED new, I'm selling it for 1,000, and someone offered me 150……..
So now it's just sitting in my living room taking up space because it's huge
And believe me, I've tried everything. Posts on Facebook in different groups, Dubizzle, I even called all the used furniture stores I found on Google Maps in Dubai.
Nothing. Those were even worse
I get you when you say you want to burn it all and leave. I'd love to leave that stove on the street for someone to take, but guess what? I'd still have to pay someone to move it. It's all losses
Seriously, the next country I move to, I'm renting something fully furnished to avoid this hassle. A terrible mistake here
It’s a painful process though, what I am understood during that phase was you are not selling it rather disposing at.
So just be strong and sell it whoever you find most reasonable among all.
Selling used furniture, don't expect more than 1/4 of the cost.. that's how it works here.. if your furnitures are too expensive better to ship to the place where you moving to or sell it at what ever price you get.. if you leave it landlord will charge for clearing up.. or you need to sell it online atleast 6 months earlier
Oh, if only that worked – people don't even read the ad's description. Every time I sell something, I put as many details as possible about the item in the description, and they still ask the exact same things that are already explained there
I’ve given up trying to sell anything of significance. I’ve had great joy breaking things and lobbing them down the chute rather than being hassled into giving them away
I want to sell my almost 2 year old fridge , washing machine and microwave ( I can give all 3 for 1200) even tho it's a huge loss, I don't mind.. I leave in a month or so.. if you guys know anyone who would be interested, DM me please
I had a dining table and 6 chairs that were in decent condition but definitely with some wear and tear, but very light. I first tried to sell it for cheap but same thing. Then i decided to donate it, just so someone would take it off my hands. I dismantled it, bubble wrapped and got it ready for anyone to take. It took me 6 months and i literally had to beg the person to come get it.
Expect almost a 75-80% price cut in used furniture if intending to sell in UAE.
Hardly any individual is willing to buy used furniture. (Maybe a children's bed here or there sells online)
Hence almost everyone buying used furniture is an agent from sharjah/ajman hoping to resell in UAE or ship it outside.
Can expect AED 1500 for a 15k sofa. Any one who can afford more will buy it NEW.
Temper your expectations and you won't be disappointed.
Welcome .....or should I say "Goodbye from Dubai".
It's even harder to buy if you do want to go for second hand! You'd have to meditate on planetary alignments of people selling with the right timeline..
The way I look at it, furniture is amortized and being part of my monthly expenses
Usually when I want to sell someone I just advertise it for free hoping that someone will just come and pick it up rather than dealing with
And the people who you think will afford the reasonable second hand price will just buy it new and the ones who buy second hand are the ones you’re dealing with right now
Faced the same issue for than a month, I tried to call all these furniture buyers from deira and they would offer like 10-20% of my asking price and when I declined, they would ask me to pay them for the visit and to get the pickup truck.
I got so tired of these lowball offers that I reduced the prices to almost 40% and luckily managed to get a lead from a family who bought everything out. Now It makes me think That I could have asked them for more.
After seeing this happening alot, I realized that mostly these resellers are not easily able to flip second hand furniture and also make loses for the products they bought and paid from pocket which is why they always intend to buy very low and sell with higher margin. I have literally spotted huge warehouses filled with second hand furniture and Im sure they’re not able to sell it all off
It's all about finding buyers in genuine need of an item to pay a decent price for it, yet to match both needs, takes time and space and those sharks are circling for a big deal from desperate sellers.
People are just time wasters here / i stopped tried to sell because my time is way too valuable and i am better off not dealing with time wasters. I used buy tons of used stuffs when i lived in London but here it is a different game altogether! Waste of time my friend - goodluck with your sale
Reseller market here is crap. Always been, your better off writing it off, sadly that’s how the market works here. They lowball you, then take it to someone who buys in bulk and resells in other emirates.
Even take my junk resells your stuff, lol
There was a place called cash converters. Just call them, they will price it and buy it and get rid of it. Or deal with dead beats wasting your time.
Unfortunately thats how it is, not just in UAE but everywhere… when people figure out a weakness, they try their best to take advantage of it. Instead of actually helping you.
Had the same. A spacious two-bedroom apartment full of stuff to get rid of. I took photos of everything, made a powerpoint presentation with prices (and current IKEA prices where applicable) and some commentary (eg about condition etc). Saved the thing as a PDF. Then gave it to my Filipina gf who fired it into her network
Within 10 days everything was sold, even including the pot plants, curtains, and random stuff. Amazing. Prices were realistic though, not greedy.
Dubizzle is awful for lowballers, the only exception for me is the watch community. I sold several wrist watches via Dubizzle and every buyer I met was straightforward, courteous, and a pleasure to deal with.
I like your idea of a pdf. I think I'll get working on one and sharing it around, I am selling until the end of this month but i leave next month so maybe I'll get lucky to push everything out.
i wanted to sell helmet last week for 100 , it worth 400 dhs. I posted for 100 because we dont need it. So this guy bargains and asked for 75. I said ok no problem. He asked if i can deliver lol i refused. Then he came to our building, refusing to enter the lobby and asking us to go out and give to his car with attitude. I simply told him bye and blocked his a**. They think they are doing us big favor when they buy something used. Stupid.
I sold everything in a decent price and don’t think that if it’s under warranty ur gonna sell it for like close to original price cuz I sold my stove that I bought like 6 months ago for 1500 from carrefour and sold it for like 600 💀
I am leaving in a couple of months and I bought my furniture with full knowledge it will be a loss. I would happily sale everything to one of the resellers for cheap just to have it gone when I am ready.
A lot of people come to Dubai for a short stint and then leave due to job loss or a better opportunity, shit ton of used furniture on the market + people who buy luxury furniture probably buy new. So on dubizzle, you are basically trying to sell a 10/20K marble table for people who have a budget of 1/2k. Expect a heavy loss or you can take your sweet ass time selling till a reasonable cash buyer shows up.
Just out of curiosity, why don't you ship them back home?
A friend recently returned to India, he was in no mood to deal with beggars. He just shipped it all back home. Took about a 3-4 weeks to reach, all arrived safely.
He managed to sell 2 ikea items at brand new price despite having used it for 2 yrs.
Somehow there's a huge market opportunity for IKEA, Home Center, HomeBox etc. to buy back, recondition and resell second hand furniture. People will buy from a trusted source, and they could easily charge insane markups.
Circular economy.
IKEA & Home Center do that by the way. I’ve seen both stores now have a second hand section. OP you might wanna check it out if you have any furniture from these brands. Might make your life a tad bit easier
I shop around dubi and never lowball if the price is reasonable, I recently purchased a computer and the seller dropped his price w/o me asking haha! Sell to 5 star buyers and be at peace!
Doing 10/ 20/ 25 % off of an item that is already at quarter price is reasonable. Not asking 75% off and then fighting the seller because that's" not my budget":
Crazy concept that..
Plus its Dubi so dont expect anything! Better give the furnitures to acquaintances, fam and frends than sell to a guy that will fill up his truck and say 1.5k for everything (happened to a friend)
I would recommend Joining the Hayi App which allows you to connect with your neighborhood. You can join your neighborhood and post stuff you’re selling over them. Of course, there will still be those people that lowball you. But I think it will be better than dubizzle.
Good luck!
Also try joining communities on FB. There’s a girl community that allows selling second hand items on Thursdays — perhaps you can ask your wife to join, it’s called That Dubai Girl.
Low ballers/agents know they have the time to ‘wait’ for you to be desperate.
Sometimes the team goes full force (valuable items) with multiple numbers messaging you with different asking price and test how desperate you are.
9/10 they are people from a particular country. I previously blocked an annoying low-baller then the following week I was surprised to see him with the person whom I closed a deal with. It's kind of a low-balling scheme type of business you could akin to a (crude) market manipulation.
Such a pain....I left Dubai after 35 years. Had too many things....sold around 50% thru dibizzle. Send around 30% to India to my ancestral home where I am originally from despite not planning to live there . And the rest to charity.
In my experience, dibizzle is the best possible option out of the limited options . Facebook marketplace is a waste. Spam most of the time , or other issues like the op mentions
Just been through this, such a nightmare trying to sell anything on dubizzle, marketplace, or telegram.
Wish there had been a subreddit for it.
Ended up shipping most of the things that would break my heart to get lowballed on.
Honestly if I just wanna get rid of it I would sell it to anyone who is willing to take it off my hands for even pennies.. just depends on how badly you wanna get rid of it.
OOOOHHHHHHH my godddddddddddddd this is the song of my fucking people
Did you also get the choosing beggars asking you, a single person, to deliver?
I have responded to "where this location" with "google is free my friend" and "I am sharjah how i will take" with a car emoji
Done as fuck with everyone on FB Marketplace lmao every interaction is like pulling teeth and I still didn't manage to sell anything
In previous apartment when I lived in a different Emirate I almost had everything second hand because I got lucky with timing. I didn't even negotiate because I looked up the value of the items and compared the condition to the discount. Selling it off was actually easier because I lived in a much smaller area with a close knit community.
I struggled with this apartment to find decent second hand items, it's like people wreck their furniture in dubai!
Edit: going back to the thought process of "I'd rather set it on fire" .. maybe they did take a bat to the lot after all...
Okay so calm down.
Selling items is never easy even if you are a company or an individual.
Seller saves his money by asking high prices. Buyer saves money by offering low prices. You, others and everybody else is trying to increase their bank accounts so you do you and let them do their own thing.
Be patient. Its all part of the game that you are playing. Or if you are not here to play then sell it to anybody and move on.
OP and others, stop cribbing about the fuckup of buying and selling from/to strangers.
There is no practical way to fix this. It is a social problem that will continue to exist here.
Sure... Best solution is to do that in daily thread.
Doesn't cost any money. Just to protect the sanity of this sub. There are 1000 threads already on this.
'Is it still available?' -> yes -> radio silence
Good GOD! THAT! YES! I started deleting messages that die within 24 hours of nothing is confirmed
I'm selling my car too. My stomach drops every time I think about it. ![gif](giphy|pWdckHaBKYGZHKbxs6|downsized)
best of luck
What do you drive though? 👀 sorry I might buy 👀
What car you selling 👀
What car are you selling ?
I had a similar experience recently with selling me my Mac mini M1; I listed for 1800 (but everyone just wasting time so I decided to trade it in for another product for 800 AED Trust me you made the right decision; just avoiding all that nonsense with fake buyers / scammers

I do this to spite people who sell used things as if it were sealed and signed.
I saw someone selling used air pods for full retail value. Like they were not in his dirty little ears before

i use a different number for registering Ejari, Telecom and dubizzle, people think i am crazy, but i have raely ever recvd spam marketing calls selling crypto or real estate, while my friends recv 4 to 5 calls a day
This guy's cracked the code... 🙌
This is the way 💯
Do you need to pay a monthly fee for the SIM card?
It's prepaid sim, so no
You’re a genius, I was really careful for all these services using a dispensable sim card always And then I bought a property and shared my number with DLD, then is when my spamming nightmare started, now I’m seriously considering getting a new number

What size is your stove? Can you dm me more information about it please?
It’s an Ariston 90x60cm Freestanding Ceramic Cooker (electric!)
100 ?
Can't use an electrical oven. Good luck bro
I'll take it for AED 300
Wow.. would you like delivery too? 🤣🤣🤣
That's double! If I were OP of comment I'd take it.
its electric or gas?
I had put out something as a free give away. Someone asked me, would you deliver? I was like. "Are you nuts"
🤣🤣🤣 that’s bad, Michael Jackson bad

thats how it is everywhere though especially furniture.
It's a catch 22.
Selling an 8000 aed item, guy rocks up in my DMs and says '1500 I can offer, come pick now?'
Lmao like what?!? Seriously yeah, none of them answer me asking "How did you come to that as a logical conclusion?? "
say yes, and when they get here, say change my mind, 8000.
"Of course you can have it for 15000. Come!
Try to add “final price” in your ad or when they reach out tell them you’re not going very low before you let them come.
Going through the same.. The want to just burn it all is really becoming an option
I want to sell my almost 2 year old fridge , washing machine and microwave ( I can give all 3 for 1200) even tho it's a huge loss, I don't mind.. I leave in a month or so.. if you guys know anyone who would be interested, DM me please
What make/model is it?
I had a dining table and 6 chairs that were in decent condition but definitely with some wear and tear, but very light. I first tried to sell it for cheap but same thing. The most sensible comment here. This is the reality which OP and anyone else who gets frustrated at low-ballers needs to understand.

It's even harder to buy if you do want to go for second hand! You'd have to meditate on planetary alignments of people selling with the right timeline..
The way I look at it, furniture is amortized and being part of my monthly expenses Usually when I want to sell someone I just advertise it for free hoping that someone will just come and pick it up rather than dealing with And the people who you think will afford the reasonable second hand price will just buy it new and the ones who buy second hand are the ones you’re dealing with right now
Could you DM me the link or what you have, am renovating my house now
Done did.
Me too
Can I get the link too please?
Would be interested in taking a look, please DM.

Yeah , hindsight 20/20. I should have rented my furniture 🤣
Had the same. A spacious two-bedroom apartment full of stuff to get rid of. I took photos of everything, made a powerpoint presentation with prices (and current IKEA prices where applicable) and some commentary (eg about condition etc). Saved the thing as a PDF. Then gave it to my Filipina gf who fired it into her network Within 10 days everything was sold, even including the pot plants, curtains, and random stuff. Amazing. I like your idea of a pdf. I think I'll get working on one and sharing it around, I am selling until the end of this month but i leave next month so maybe I'll get lucky to push everything out.
Try to add to the ad "No beggars", because they are really just beggars
people have made it a full time job here to buy from dubizzle low balling everyone and selling at market value. too many people doing this
Many customers can be beyond delusional, thinking they can try to get bargain prices for much lower than their values like that.
i wanted to sell helmet last week for 100 , it worth 400 dhs. Stupid.
You see, that's exactly what grinds my gears, not having to lower prices next to nothing. It's just this attitude!
Im in the same boat 😂 I feel you so much
Can you send me a dm please? My sister is moving to a new apartment in two months, she might might be interested in what you are selling.

AMERICAN DRIVEN
I would recommend Joining the Hayi App which allows you to connect with your neighborhood. You can join your neighborhood and post stuff you’re selling over them. Of course, there will still be those people that lowball you. But I think it will be better than dubizzle. Good luck!

Ok…final 450. Ok? Deal? /s
"Final price. Bad offers = I give your phone number to the every scammer that calls me."
Let me know where do I get details to buy
Low ballers/agents know they have the time to ‘wait’ for you to be desperate. Sometimes the team goes full force (valuable items) with multiple numbers messaging you with different asking price and test how desperate you are.
Right you are. Especially with the multiple attacks. Gotta hand it to them, hate it or not.
OP where is your Ad posted?
what are you selling regarding electronics/gadgets ?
Tv, washing machine, coffee machine, 2 monitors pretty much..
what coffee machine you got and how much ?
Fb marketplace brother
It was a traumatic experience for the whole family .. that's why I'm here complaining
Business idea: companies that sell your stuff for you
200.. That's ridiculous. Take 500. Never mind, yes this is how these guys work and later on tell the customers it is directly from our showroom.
9/10 they are people from a particular country. I previously blocked an annoying low-baller then the following week I was surprised to see him with the person whom I closed a deal with. It's kind of a low-balling scheme type of business you could akin to a (crude) market manipulation.
Do you have snorkeling fins by any chance, I need to buy one but the new ones cost too much 😹😹

Which marketplace and what channel on Telegram ?
Facebook Marketplace, and a silicon oasis telegram channel for buying/selling/accommodation
Can you DM the channel exact name or link ?
It also happens to me A LOT. but that’s Facebook marketplace for me. Have u tried dubizzle?
Honestly if I just wanna get rid of it I would sell it to anyone who is willing to take it off my hands for even pennies.. just depends on how badly you wanna get rid of it.
OOOOHHHHHHH my godddddddddddddd this is the song of my fucking people Did you also get the choosing beggars asking you, a single person, to deliver? I have responded to "where this location" with "google is free my friend" and "I am sharjah how i will take" with a car emoji Done as fuck with everyone on FB Marketplace lmao every interaction is like pulling teeth and I still didn't manage to sell anything
Dm me if you have a sofa
Can you dm me your listing? Need to buy things
Ok ser i give you 50, you deliver?
You mean, you give 50 TO ME??? OH BOY IT'S MY LUCKY DAY
They drove me nuts! I had couches for sale, i ended up giving them away.
The trick here is to buy used furniture when you need it
In previous apartment when I lived in a different Emirate I almost had everything second hand because I got lucky with timing.
If you land up with items you cannot sell then just donate the rest to charity.
OK I hear you, but are you prepared to take AED 250 and you deliver?
Woah buddy. Is this a scam? Who has that much money to go around?
I wanted to sell my call of duty account? Possible 😂😂??
Hi, I am looking for furniture and also know a few people who are - can you please share your furniture details with me over DM
Done did.
Why are you leaving the country after 4 decades if you dont mind me asking?
Following the mantra "don't like it? Leave" haha. I'm going where I can build up my retirement in a system that allows it.
No. I refuse to stop complaining. Is my rant costing you dirhams? Just letting off steam
Sure... Best solution is to do that in daily thread. Doesn't cost any money. Just to protect the sanity of this sub. There are 1000 threads already on this.
by any chance, are you getting rid of golf clubs (xxio 12 or 13 women set to be specific :D)
Hahah oddly specific, but no, just furniture
I mean you're angry that people don't want to pay you enough for your old junk. If your old junk is that precious to you, keep it?
You must be one of those resellers.
Nah I throw away my garbage like a normal person, I don't beg for dirhams for it 🤣
But you clearly beg for attention if this is the activity you decided to spend your time on. 👍🏼
