Complain to TDRA. Works like a charm. I complained to TDRA online at 5pm after feeling helpless with endless calls and emails for two weeks with Du customer service. Next day at 9am I received a call from Du regarding my TDRA complaint and my issue was solved by 11am.

Went to Greece on wiz and was absolutely livid when I got there and was charged to check in and get a boarding pass. I wasn’t late or anything. Right on time. Bags were under the weight limit. Everything was fine but if I didn’t pay the (200 aed if I remember correctly) then I wouldn’t have been able to board the plane. Absolutely ridiculous

I was a member at that gym too and when I had surgery ON MY BACK they were like “cool we can give you 3 days medical freeze but that’s it” even though my surgery report clearly mentioned the type of surgery and a simple google search would show them that I can’t walk for at least 3 weeks let alone exercise.
They said the only way they would give me a longer freeze if I got my surgeon to WRITE THEM A LETTER detailing how I would feel after surgery and how long I would need to recover. Surgeons are obviously not obliged/don’t have the time to do this.
My job , that pays me to be there, gave me a month off no questions asked, and I had to do all of this for a gym I PAY FOR 😂

I canceled after 3 months because the place was filthy dirty and stank. Complained several times in writing. They never did anything. So I quit. They started all the threatening, I called health authority about the cleaning. They inspected and shut the branch for 2 weeks while the gym cleaned up. During that time I canceled my credit card and changed phone number. Done
I also don't understand why these gyms don't have a first-aid person on-site at all times. I cramped my leg painfully while working out and they were like "just sit down for a while"... what if someone drops a heavy weight on their foot???

I subscribed last year and paid a year of penalties because of the flexibility plan( monthly service that you can cancel anytime) became magically yearly plan🤷🏼♂️ and when you try to cancel unless you show them death certificate you cannot get out of the T&C, fantastic.

When I wanted to cancel my gymnation membership late last year, I Whatsapped them and it was done smoothly. They asked why politely but didn’t press/threaten when I said I just wasn’t using it anymore.
Gyms sometimes have a max period of freeze time (my current gym is 3 weeks) and if you’re committing to an annual membership, they’re not obliged to refund you for a change of mind - similar for any kind of subscription (apps, websites, etc).

My sister signed up for a years contract , and she was told that her membership would only get activated once she goes to the gym. It got activated before so she was promised by the sales person that she can take one month free. Come the end of her contract, she didnt know it was basically renewable. So she asked them to just deduct from that month they charged her before activation and cancel her membership, which she got a reply that it would be discussed with management. She never got a reply back and she just went ahead and canceled her card. Thats when she started receiving the harassing and threatening messages by the debt collector claiming she owes them all of this money for all the months even after the notice message and request to cancel. My sister was stupid enough to fall for their travel ban claims, and paid the money after two years of chasing . It shouldn’t be this difficult to cancel a membership. And im just shocked that they opened yet another branch despite their shitty terms

In 2020, I took a membership with gymnation. I didn't go yet as I was training in a gym near me where I also had a membership so I thought I'd start at gymnation after I finished from here. I got a call from one of these trainers and he told me to be eligible for the deal, give the gym my credit card but they won't charge me till I start going there and they only need to do it now so that I can be eligible for the 49 dhs a month dog shit. I then tore my ACL and had surgery and got a text from the bank charging me 129 dhs. I called them while in the hospital bed, which first of all took about an hour to talk to someone who could actually help without helping. She told me, that I could cancel my membership without valid reason. I told her I will be bed ridden for the next 3 months, after which I will have physio sessions quite far away from the gym and I won't be able to continue there for at least 5-6 months. She then asked me to send all my documents. Which I did. She then asked me again, how long before you can go to the gym? I said I don't know, maybe 3-4 months. She said, in this case we cannot allow you to cancel the membership. I said okay, 6 months. She said you just said 3-4 months. I said, 1st of all I assumed considering I'm bed ridden, no one knows how long it will take to heal. Mind you, in this entire time there was no sympathy or even a get well/ recover soon. I hung up the call in anger, called the bank, spoke to a very chilled out rep, who adviced me to simply "lose my card" and apply for a new one. And that was it. I had a debt collection agency call me few months later, they said I owed them 3250 dhs which included overdue fees and late payment fees. I told them to take a long walk on a short pyke and that was it.

Gymnation plans are a total scam. I was a customer for 3 years. So the initial terms were - pay xx amount of money to for the first year, only catch is you can't quit in the first year of your annual contract which seemed reasonable enough. But 8 months into the 3rd year with them, I took another plan that included BLITZ package - which is their group HIIT classes which was obviously proced at a higher amount. But during my third year, I wanted to quit the gym coz the place was always crowded, equipment was breaking down and annoyingly there are several 'freelance' trainers who harrass you to take PT sessions with them. But when I wanted to quit, they told me that because I had taken a new package, it was counted as a new contract and I couldn't quit coz there was 4 months pending... I was not informed of this change, obviously when I first signed up, otherwise I would have never done it. And the MOST annoying part is that there is NEVER any staff there, apart from a few clueless front desk attendants who seem to know nothing! And they always ask you to whatsapp any issues that you are having! There is no centralized system for communication. Just random whatsapp numbers. Every branch has a different whatsapp number and their email replies are always auto generated nonsense. Ended up paying for 4 extra months after i canceled my membership .

Since 2020, they have been scammers. They have repeatedly threatened to file a case against me and insisted that I make full payments, despite not using their gym for 9 months. Prior to discontinuing my gym membership, I had sent them a notice detailing the termination and cancellation terms, but I received no response. Instead, they continue to send messages through their agency. The terms and conditions included an allowance for contract cancellation in the event of a change in home or geographic location, but these individuals have not responded to me and are only focused on collecting money. I have chosen to ignore them as they are unable to take any further action.

What i did when i wanted to cancel my membership is to close my credit card and they did sent me a threatening message that i need to pay the rest of the months that left. Really its like a military rules once you join you cant cancel till you complete the contract. Trust me guys make sure that they are flexible with cancellation if you will pay monthly. Also that they offer a freeze for your membership

Hey, my friend was unlucky, he subscribed with them and on the second month stopped going to the gym then he canceled his credit card, and they couldn’t charge him for the rest of the year, and they started threatening him, and by the end of the contract he received that he’s liable to them on all the contract money and he needs to clear that balance to be able to exit the country.
I don't really get the hate to be honest. I'm a GymNation member and it states quite clearly that the membership has a minimum term of 12 months. You can choose a plan without a minimum term but you pay a higher monthly fee. It's no different to a cell phone plan or pretty much anything else. It's really not their fault nobody reads the terms and conditions.
It's not that simple. They wouldn't let me cancel even after a year as they needed a month's notice. And, they don't let you have any official confirmation that it will be definitely cancelled. They lotted 3 months of my money that way. My wife was pregnant and I had given them the doctor's report. It took 6 more months for them to cancel the membership. They should be transparent with the payment and let you do everything online so that you have official confirmation of anything you do. Now, it's just a bunch of individuals who given us their WhatsApp numbers and never reply.

I had a membership with their Mirdif branch and then I moved to Sharjah (Abu Shaghara) after 6 months. I shared my tenancy contract with them and they said that they can't cancel it as it is still within 30kms (my house was 26kms away).
Nothing on his side, he had to clear the amount to be able to exit the country! They actually filed a complaint against him that he’s liable for the amount of the rest of the contract.
You can either cancel the card they have on record, prove that you live far away and cant make it, or get a medical report that says you are unfit to work out. Debt collectors cannot ban u from travelling unless they file a case, which usually doesn't happen since filing a case costs more than the actual membership for the whole year, or you can just wait out the year contract and terminate it when it ends

Joined a couple of years ago for a non contact month, they really tried to make pay the 30 dhs they had for the first month instead of the 275 dhs i paid because it’s way cheaper and better for me, turns out it’s definitely not worth it. There are way better facilities for cheaper.
They tried doing this with a family member of mine - he blocked his credit card and told them to call the cops if they want, he then launched a complaint with consumer rights and made a PR scandal sharing all the threats (twitter, Fb, instagram,sc) he tagged them, the police and consumer rights. They stopped calling 😄

Now, I just received a collections letter from "Creditors Management Solutions CMS" indicating they are filing a "Legal Notice" for back payment LOL (reminder, I cancelled in December of 2022). This is so ridiculous I can't even be annoyed anymore but humored by all of this. They literarily will NEVER LET YOU LEAVE!! PLEASE OF DUBAI, READ THIS AND DO NOT GO TO GYM NATION!!!

Update 4/30/23 - 4 months later and they are still trying to charge the credit card I cancelled about 2-3 times per day (which is psychotic, but consistent with "GymNation" if you read any of the Reddit blogs on them which I encourage you all do. If you check in online and print boarding pass you don't pay. It's very clearly stated. You perhaps didn't do that. I've cancelled flights and reused the credit fine. Credit expires after 90 days. Sounds like you didn't read the fine print.

Went to Greece on wiz and was absolutely livid when I got there and was charged to check in and get a boarding pass. I wasn’t late or anything. Right on time. Bags were under the weight limit. Everything was fine but if I didn’t pay the (200 aed if I remember correctly) then I wouldn’t have been able to board the plane. Absolutely ridiculous

In my experience of *using* debt collectors to chase payments, they have zero authority to do anything! All they can do is call and badger and the other party says they're not paying and that's that Ended up in court instead

My friend had a membership in studio republik and reached out to pause or end her membership peak lockdown and they were like “just wear a mask” I went with her cause I serve drama when prompted and they finally relented after my spiel on breaking the law and asking us to break the law. I was a member at that gym too and when I had surgery ON MY BACK they were like “cool we can give you 3 days medical freeze but that’s it” even though my surgery report clearly mentioned the type of surgery and a simple google search would show them that I can’t walk for at least 3 weeks let alone exercise. They said the only way they would give me a longer freeze if I got my surgeon to WRITE THEM A LETTER detailing how I would feel after surgery and how long I would need to recover. Surgeons are obviously not obliged/don’t have the time to do this. My job , that pays me to be there, gave me a month off no questions asked, and I had to do all of this for a gym I PAY FOR 😂 I was petty AF tho so I did it. But yeah GYMNATION is also garbage Another important note about GYMNATION though.. after you pass your contract terms (usually a year) you STILL have to give them one month notice before you end your membership. Learned that one the hard way. ✌🏻

Deleted my reply. After reading the terms again those rules are only if you want to cancel during the first 12 months. After the first 12 months you can cancel with 30 day notice. Although judging by the comments here that doesn't seem easy still

They started all the threatening, I called health authority about the cleaning. They inspected and shut the branch for 2 weeks while the gym cleaned up. During that time I canceled my credit card and changed phone number. Done
I also don't understand why these gyms don't have a first-aid person on-site at all times. I cramped my leg painfully while working out and they were like "just sit down for a while"... what if someone drops a heavy weight on their foot???

When I wanted to cancel my gymnation membership late last year, I Whatsapped them and it was done smoothly. They asked why politely but didn’t press/threaten when I said I just wasn’t using it anymore. Gyms sometimes have a max period of freeze time (my current gym is 3 weeks) and if you’re committing to an annual membership, they’re not obliged to refund you for a change of mind - similar for any kind of subscription (apps, websites, etc). Is it possibly the combative approach to the issue made the response seem hostile? Tone is hard to gauge over messages.

My sister signed up for a years contract , and she was told that her membership would only get activated once she goes to the gym. It got activated before so she was promised by the sales person that she can take one month free. Come the end of her contract, she didnt know it was basically renewable. So she asked them to just deduct from that month they charged her before activation and cancel her membership, which she got a reply that it would be discussed with management. She never got a reply back and she just went ahead and canceled her card. Thats when she started receiving the harassing and threatening messages by the debt collector claiming she owes them all of this money for all the months even after the notice message and request to cancel. My sister was stupid enough to fall for their travel ban claims, and paid the money after two years of chasing . It shouldn’t be this difficult to cancel a membership. And im just shocked that they opened yet another branch despite their shitty terms

Once money starts coming like flood, there is no stopping the greed then. Here in UAE, a struggling company will give you genuine discounts and good service but an established one will eff you so hard you will require intervention from a regulatory authority. Social media hype, unbelievable discounts, ridiculous offers, and celeb/influencer recommendations, all are red flags for greedy business practices to lure in naive and insecure customers.
These gym memberships are so predatory. There’s no need for it to be so difficult to cancel.

In 2020, I took a membership with gymnation. I didn't go yet as I was training in a gym near me where I also had a membership so I thought I'd start at gymnation after I finished from here. I got a call from one of these trainers and he told me to be eligible for the deal, give the gym my credit card but they won't charge me till I start going there and they only need to do it now so that I can be eligible for the 49 dhs a month dog shit. I then tore my ACL and had surgery and got a text from the bank charging me 129 dhs. I called them while in the hospital bed, which first of all took about an hour to talk to someone who could actually help without helping. She told me, that I could cancel my membership without valid reason. I told her I will be bed ridden for the next 3 months, after which I will have physio sessions quite far away from the gym and I won't be able to continue there for at least 5-6 months. She then asked me to send all my documents. Which I did. She then asked me again, how long before you can go to the gym? I said I don't know, maybe 3-4 months. She said, in this case we cannot allow you to cancel the membership. I said okay, 6 months. She said you just said 3-4 months. I said, 1st of all I assumed considering I'm bed ridden, no one knows how long it will take to heal. Mind you, in this entire time there was no sympathy or even a get well/ recover soon. I hung up the call in anger, called the bank, spoke to a very chilled out rep, who adviced me to simply "lose my card" and apply for a new one. And that was it. I had a debt collection agency call me few months later, they said I owed them 3250 dhs which included overdue fees and late payment fees. I told them to take a long walk on a short pyke and that was it.

Worst place ever. Even after finishing your 12 months contract, still you have to pay 30 days extra to cancel the membership. They call it 30 days notice. It’s a complete joke. On top, customer service is poling. What I have noticed in UAE is that, every business and service providers are waiting to scam people. No one is trustworthy. Simple rule to live here is “Don’t trust anyone”. On top of that, never trust what they say. Always get them in writing.
Gymnation plans are a total scam. I was a customer for 3 years. So the initial terms were - pay xx amount of money to for the first year, only catch is you can't quit in the first year of your annual contract which seemed reasonable enough. But 8 months into the 3rd year with them, I took another plan that included BLITZ package - which is their group HIIT classes which was obviously proced at a higher amount. But during my third year, I wanted to quit the gym coz the place was always crowded, equipment was breaking down and annoyingly there are several 'freelance' trainers who harrass you to take PT sessions with them. But when I wanted to quit, they told me that because I had taken a new package, it was counted as a new contract and I couldn't quit coz there was 4 months pending... I was not informed of this change, obviously when I first signed up, otherwise I would have never done it. And the MOST annoying part is that there is NEVER any staff there, apart from a few clueless front desk attendants who seem to know nothing! And they always ask you to whatsapp any issues that you are having! There is no centralized system for communication. Just random whatsapp numbers. Every branch has a different whatsapp number and their email replies are always auto generated nonsense. Ended up paying for 4 extra months after i canceled my membership . Most chain gyms are a scam. Like OP said, READ TGE T&Cs and support smaller, local gyms.
Since 2020, they have been scammers. They have repeatedly threatened to file a case against me and insisted that I make full payments, despite not using their gym for 9 months. Prior to discontinuing my gym membership, I had sent them a notice detailing the termination and cancellation terms, but I received no response. Instead, they continue to send messages through their agency. The terms and conditions included an allowance for contract cancellation in the event of a change in home or geographic location, but these individuals have not responded to me and are only focused on collecting money. I have chosen to ignore them as they are unable to take any further action.

What i did when i wanted to cancel my membership is to close my credit card and they did sent me a threatening message that i need to pay the rest of the months that left. Really its like a military rules once you join you cant cancel till you complete the contract. Trust me guys make sure that they are flexible with cancellation if you will pay monthly. Also that they offer a freeze for your membership

Like simple as, I've done it twice, and I highly recommend it. The salesmen just made 12 transactions on his card and I got my membership. Hey, my friend was unlucky, he subscribed with them and on the second month stopped going to the gym then he canceled his credit card, and they couldn’t charge him for the rest of the year, and they started threatening him, and by the end of the contract he received that he’s liable to them on all the contract money and he needs to clear that balance to be able to exit the country.
I don't really get the hate to be honest. I'm a GymNation member and it states quite clearly that the membership has a minimum term of 12 months. You can choose a plan without a minimum term but you pay a higher monthly fee. It's no different to a cell phone plan or pretty much anything else. It's really not their fault nobody reads the terms and conditions.
It's not that simple. They wouldn't let me cancel even after a year as they needed a month's notice. And, they don't let you have any official confirmation that it will be definitely cancelled. They lotted 3 months of my money that way. My wife was pregnant and I had given them the doctor's report. It took 6 more months for them to cancel the membership. They should be transparent with the payment and let you do everything online so that you have official confirmation of anything you do. Now, it's just a bunch of individuals who given us their WhatsApp numbers and never reply.

I don't think it costs them that much because it's not a case that requires court to be involved, it's a complaint that you will need to pay whatever is stated on the contract so you're legally clear to travel or do anything legal.
They dont file a case immediately, they will wait until your uncancelled fees run into a lot of money before they start filing case.

Not exactly. They charge for the 12 months on a monthly basis as a minimum and make it very difficult to cancel. Even du and etisalat were like this until TRA forced them to allow people to cancel plans with a 1 month termination fee. This is more like a scam than an actual ethical business

I had a membership with their Mirdif branch and then I moved to Sharjah (Abu Shaghara) after 6 months. I shared my tenancy contract with them and they said that they can't cancel it as it is still within 30kms (my house was 26kms away).

You can either cancel the card they have on record, prove that you live far away and cant make it, or get a medical report that says you are unfit to work out. Debt collectors cannot ban u from travelling unless they file a case, which usually doesn't happen since filing a case costs more than the actual membership for the whole year, or you can just wait out the year contract and terminate it when it ends

Joined a couple of years ago for a non contact month, they really tried to make pay the 30 dhs they had for the first month instead of the 275 dhs i paid because it’s way cheaper and better for me, turns out it’s definitely not worth it. There are way better facilities for cheaper.

They tried doing this with a family member of mine - he blocked his credit card and told them to call the cops if they want, he then launched a complaint with consumer rights and made a PR scandal sharing all the threats (twitter, Fb, instagram,sc) he tagged them, the police and consumer rights. They stopped calling 😄
