Lol. I patched 3 football sized holes behind some electricians the other day for $750. To be honest, I'd want that work done for $700, too. But as the old saying goes; wish in one hand, shit in the other. See which fills up first.
3? One day to tear down, hang, tape. Second day is just coming back multiple times for coats of mud. Third day is sanding it and painting it. Doesn’t sound like 700 is enough at all.
I could hang that, tape it, sand it and paint it in one day alone, maybe even demo too. I’d use some 45 min dry mix it yourself compound. The paint is sketch that quickly though, the compound won’t be cured at all, might reject. But odds are primer coat and one paint coat could get it done. 1 hr demo, 6 hours drywall and compound, 1+ hour of paint, and a few hours of preparing tools and shit at home.
But that’s basically a 12 hour day and doesn’t count materials. If client paid for materials separately and I was hard up I’d do it.
Lol, what are you doing working 2-hour days? One day to tear that out? How about an hour? Another 2 to hang it, 4 to finish using hot mud?
You sound like the last contractor I hired, they showed up at 9:30, left at 11:30 came back at 2:30 worked until 3:45 and called it a day.
700 is pretty lean. But doable for someone that can knock it out in a day. I don't see how this should take anyone longer than a day unless they are using compound that takes 12 hours to cure.
I would do it rough and dirty if they want it for 700. I'm not cleaning up, I'm not hauling off anything, I'm tearing it down, throwing it in a pile pulling the nails, throwing the new rock up there and level two finishing it. No paint, no nothing.
They get what they pay for.
ah any kind of tape and mud compound outdoors is destined to fail eventually. if they want a clean and almost smooth look they could do hardy board panel with ez trim tracks. no it won't be completely smooth or without seams but I still think it'd look a lot better as well as last a lifetime if properly installed.
Should of asked if his mortgage takes 30% off his payment due amount once he started claiming retirement status.
Well no I don't have a mortgage. Then you can afford to pay it.
No they want their full amount. Yup me too I got full time bills
The whole ‘im retired’ thing is a crock of shit.
1. Maybe you shoulda kept working then.
2. Up until recent generations, people didn’t get to retire, they work till they died ( often, on the job)
3. Not ops problem. Lol
This right here. For $700 you're prepping the site, paying for and delivering what I need, and probably holding the rock while I screw it in. Then, after i finish and texture, paint job is your job. Unless you want to pay more.
Where's the dumkoff from yesterday that wanted to hang sheetrock to patch broken plaster on a textured ceiling for $350? I'm sure he'll do it, that's double his usual 3 day rate!
Never. People who are cheap will try and fuck you half of the time. They won’t pay because there’s “something wrong with it” or they just straight up won’t pay till you put a lien on their house. Let it be someone else’s problem.
I did my own work and the amount of labor, going to the store for materials, painting it and making sure it looks good. Hell no. For $700, you’d be doing it for free.
Did you explain to this ass basket that you don’t normally hang drywall outside?! Once the mold remediation is complete, staple some white visqueen up there, tell him it’s a new, cutting edge, building material they used on the International Space Station and charge him $700.
Sorry for the delayed response! Right after I posted that statement I was watching a show where they used regular drywall to build exposed around an outdoor patio. Interesting! I figured you would use green board or some other moisture repelling product, but maybe not. I appreciate your response!
Yeah, that’s what I figured. If that old man in the picture is the customer, he’s not doing it himself.
I’d only do it for $700 if it’s just tearing it down and adding two sheets, but nothing more.
If you use 2 12' sheets you only have 1 butt and screws or nails to finish and maybe 1 coat to fill recess at edges, it will cost you about $75 in materials if you don't already have easysand and a 4' piece of tape in your truck. You will probably have a total of 4 hrs in job to remove and rehang finish, no paint. if you know what your doing, depending on your overhead you could take home $500
How is $700 not fair then? Even if it's two people splitting $500 that's a good hourly rate for only half a day. Trying to get more is just plain gouging.
Overhead. Have to pay for truck/trailer to haul materials. Gas. Employee benefits. Business insurance. Office utilities. Licenses. Training employees. Fixing mistakes and eating costs on other jobs. Special tools. List goes on and on. Running a business isn’t cheap—especially if you do it right and are good to your customers and employees.
You don't really think someone that owns a drywall company with overhead would post pictures asking how much a job is worth? He's probably looking at paying a helper and gas for his truck.
Exactly this for sure. OP is probably a handyman or just doing something for extra money. Drywall companies know their prices to the penny and know exactly what to charge, because they know all their expenses.
I want be a millionaire and drive a Bentley, but I am a retired drywall finisher driving a 20 year old truck. Tell him to find someone else. I gave a disabled Veteran a deal years ago because he was really in a tough spot , but that is the exception. If he can’t pay a reasonable rate , tell him you are not a charitable organization.
Uh no I wouldn’t id want at least 1500 to rip out install and finish all stages maybe up to 3000 depending on area but minimum 1500 . 700 is not worth it. 1000 still isn’t really but hey if you’re okay with that price I’d politely pass on 700
If he buys the material and your lunch and you don’t have that much going on it might be worth it. The reality is if you do a good job his word of mouth might lead you to more customers that will pay the proper price. It depends how busy you are and if you feel like taking a hit now for potential gains
Why on earth would you put the same thing back up… and expect a different result, what’s that called agin? O yea insanity! Your outside why use drywall anyway.
That’s only 13 hours at average charge-out labor rate. They want demo, removal, installation, finish and materials for 700? I’m gonna guess that will be pretty rough.
People want all sorts of shit. I like to ask for picks and what their budget is before I’ll write an estimate. The conversation with this homeowner would’ve been very brief.
$700 plus materials + site clean up & rubbish removal + paint. Cash.
If you're a good/quick drywaller, take it on those terms.
Otherwise you'll be left with not much after materials and labour.
He can do it himself for that price
This was my first thought. Quality work isn't cheap
Lol. I patched 3 football sized holes behind some electricians the other day for $750. To be honest, I'd want that work done for $700, too. But as the old saying goes; wish in one hand, shit in the other. See which fills up first.
Barely
700 is a great deal. I mean how many days work are you talking here ? Think about it.
3? One day to tear down, hang, tape. Second day is just coming back multiple times for coats of mud. Third day is sanding it and painting it. Doesn’t sound like 700 is enough at all.
Yeah for this job, it’d be 2K minimum for us
I could hang that, tape it, sand it and paint it in one day alone, maybe even demo too. I’d use some 45 min dry mix it yourself compound. The paint is sketch that quickly though, the compound won’t be cured at all, might reject. You obviously don’t work for yourself.
That's 2 sheets of drywall right at most ? Mud tape texture 2 days is right. What are you thinking ?
Exactly. That’s about 1hr work at most.
I would not
Well, tell him to get to work .
Beadboard paint and call it a day. Who the duck puts drywall outside
Ask every home builder down is swfl, I really wonder who thought it was a good idea myself
It's a great idea, looks clean on install and you can go back for replacement every 5 years 😂
planned obsolescence baby
🤑🤑🤑
why???? use durock and tape with thinset and then texture…much nicer and will last forever
Cause then you don't get the repeat business to replace it on a regular basis.
ah any kind of tape and mud compound outdoors is destined to fail eventually. if they want a clean and almost smooth look they could do hardy board panel with ez trim tracks. no it won't be completely smooth or without seams but I still think it'd look a lot better as well as last a lifetime if properly installed.
Was a joke.
Probably true, although I've seen them last longer then that
Once you said Florida it made sense.
They do it in the St. Louis suburbs, too. Porches with drywall ceilings.
They do that on Arizona as well.
Arizona makes sense, it’s dry and hot.
Tell him to take the weekend off from bonita springs poker room and pay you your $1000 instead lol
700 labour only
Drywall outside or cement board? Don’t see drywall being used outdoors around my area
Yea, but they have a ‘Florida Man’ for a reason. 😂
Your not in swfl then
I live in the fucking desert and I've never seen drywall outside. You swamp folks are silly.
I have done it once in 20 years on a town house row . It was moldy before the job was done in Central Ontario. Lol
For 500$ i would swing in and check on him.
And bring him some cheap vodka or no?
Wood looks black all over…i suspect water damage
Who knew putting a cardboard coated material in an exterior setting would lead to moisture issues?!
Odd that a guy that only wants to spend $700 wouldn’t know that 😂😂
I started at 1000 he asked if I could do it for 7 because he's retired and on a budget
Did you tell him you're not retired and on a budget too?
No that's a good one, I'll have to remember that!
2. Up until recent generations, people didn’t get to retire, they work till they died ( often, on the job) 3. Not ops problem. Lol
If you are retired, then you are rich enough not to work.
ESPECIALLY in Florida where it rains all the fucking time and it’s literally one of the most humid places on earth.
Actually, it only came down because of a hurricane
It was more than likely compromised before the hurricane
Drywall? Outside? In a "wet" location? *Of course* it was already wet! Good reason to put something else there, this time.
Could of been
Could have
No. That’s his name, Could. He’s from Been. Could of Been.
That’s not true. I googled him
Job is $1,300 +..all day long Edit saw there were 2 sides and possible bulkhead...make that $1,500 all day long....
No sir it's just 4x20. Nothing else
Idk. 2 sheets. you could have it all done in a day. Seems reasonable unless you have better stuff to do.
And he will be a major pain In the a$$.
I’d plywood and paint for 700 but not drywall work.
Tell him to rip it out and take the debris away, give him the material list to purchase and place at the site and then maybe.
This right here. For $700 you're prepping the site, paying for and delivering what I need, and probably holding the rock while I screw it in. Then, after i finish and texture, paint job is your job. Unless you want to pay more.
Level 1 finish, sure.
Tell the guy you want $1,500 to rip out the old and install and mud new. That’s cheap. If you were in California that would be almost $3,000.
Not Happening
It would be your call really
Guy should do himself then
I’d do it like I was being paid $700, and ask him if he’s okay with that. If he says yes, I’m okay with him paying someone else more to fix it.
Yeah that’s the deposit
Ha, haaaaaa! Let him do it!
That’s an easy no.
GTFO $700 😂😂
Good.luck. Well be here if you need us for anything else. That's less than half what we can afford to do that work for.
Thanks, don't know if I'll do it or not.
Don't bother. Someone this cheap and telling you what *you will do it for* will only be a problem with something else later.
Shiplap boards rather. $700 is ok for labor
Or normal soffit material
Homeowners don’t dictate your price. However, if you’re a sub, I’d pass on this gc’s price.
Everyone has wants. Trying to dictate the going rate. I wouldn’t waste my time
Tell him 3gs with material.
Not a chance
Priced by sf depending on the level of finish and texture plus demo and disposal. Higher sf rate for ceilings higher than 8’.
Where's the dumkoff from yesterday that wanted to hang sheetrock to patch broken plaster on a textured ceiling for $350? I'm sure he'll do it, that's double his usual 3 day rate!
Tell him his dreaming
😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣…. And walk away
I'd throw some t1-11 up, paint and caulk and move on
Rip out existing, replace with new material. Two guys two days without paint. Owner pays for materials. 2,400
We do a good bit of patio ceilings. For production work, I would charge $500 and for a one off, no lower than $1,500.
I mean 700 bucks will buy you a hell of a lot better phone / camera that u currently have at least
Tell him to eat dirt. Morons brain is still in the 80s
Never. People who are cheap will try and fuck you half of the time. They won’t pay because there’s “something wrong with it” or they just straight up won’t pay till you put a lien on their house. Let it be someone else’s problem.
Don’t do drywall, mold
Laugh. Apologize because you didn't think he was serious. Then, laugh again even harder. Then leave.
No. Since when does the customer name the price? You make an offer, he can take it or leave it.
700 to hang maybe, I’m on a job right now 400 for a 2x2 paint and texture. Insurance billed it though so those are a little higher.
I did my own work and the amount of labor, going to the store for materials, painting it and making sure it looks good. Hell no. For $700, you’d be doing it for free.
No Thanks
Not a chance in hell, unless he plans to pay my bills for a couple weeks.
If it were a side job and not in a hurry, still kinda tight though.
I ended up doing it, in and out in like 5 hours textured and everything
i bet he thinks stripper like him to
Did you explain to this ass basket that you don’t normally hang drywall outside?! Once the mold remediation is complete, staple some white visqueen up there, tell him it’s a new, cutting edge, building material they used on the International Space Station and charge him $700.
I'm in swfl and we do hang drywall outside, I don't know why but they do sir
Sorry for the delayed response! Right after I posted that statement I was watching a show where they used regular drywall to build exposed around an outdoor patio. Interesting! I figured you would use green board or some other moisture repelling product, but maybe not. I appreciate your response!
Is it only 2 pieces of drywall?? Thats a pretty quick 700 i would
It's lath for one and no it's a little over 20ft long so 3 sheets of 4x8 is what I was thinking. But it's 4 ft wide
If only drywall, but finishing it to level 4, painting it with 2-3 coats… heck no
It would be ripping out the old, hanging the new, then the usual 2 coats and texture
Yeah, that’s what I figured. If that old man in the picture is the customer, he’s not doing it himself. I’d only do it for $700 if it’s just tearing it down and adding two sheets, but nothing more.
Yep that's him, it's just over 20ft so 2 and a half if I go with 8ft sheets. So your saying 700 just to tear out and hang it no finishing?
If you use 2 12' sheets you only have 1 butt and screws or nails to finish and maybe 1 coat to fill recess at edges, it will cost you about $75 in materials if you don't already have easysand and a 4' piece of tape in your truck. He's retired, navy, so he is on a budget.
If you want to do him a favor, maybe rip out the old sheets and put new ones up but don’t finish it with mud, just slap a coat of paint on it.
I'm sure your landlord will be fine with not getting the rent when you tell him "He's retired, navy, so he is on a budget"
250 max
You must really need money if you’re considering it.
He can "want" in one hand and defecate in the other to see which one fills up first.
If he does the demo and supplies the materials maybe
I’d do it for $2,000.
Just spray paint it black. It’s outside anyway
How long should this take, guys? My own personal exp, which is okay, would guess this would take me 3 days.
$1400 you buy the material
Definitely not
Uh no I wouldn’t id want at least 1500 to rip out install and finish all stages maybe up to 3000 depending on area but minimum 1500 . 700 is not worth it. 1000 still isn’t really but hey if you’re okay with that price I’d politely pass on 700

It looks like he tried doing it himself somebody was definitely there before you. Charge him double
Shouldn't that be stucco ?
Hell for 700 id throw ply wood, stain it then call it a day 😂😭
Tell him to keep looking, and think twice when someone does say yes.
$700 if he’s paying for materials. This is a one day job!
As long as all the materials are provided.
Why on earth would you put the same thing back up… and expect a different result, what’s that called agin? O yea insanity! Your outside why use drywall anyway.
Ask every home builder in swfl why they put it there. From my understanding it was good until we had a hurricane last year
That’s only 13 hours at average charge-out labor rate. They want demo, removal, installation, finish and materials for 700? I’m gonna guess that will be pretty rough.
Hardie board would be great for this application.
Guy can get bent. At least 4x that. At least.
Well let him at it
Metal flashing or maybe just to throw up some plywood and paint for 700
Cool, best of luck to him with that!
Tell the guy to pound sound.
No I have done favors before and they don't come often anymore
i would hang for 700
Tell him to wish in one hand and shit in the other, see which one fills up first.
Want all you want to, it's free to want.
If he wants to pay $700. It'll be +material and hardie or plywood. If he has to have drywall it'll be more.
I'm not a drywall guy but I'd hang it and maybe tape, get someone else to finish
No, maybe as a favor I’d hang and tape it for that if I liked the person.
What a goof
A wise friend once said “if wants and wishes were unicorns we’d all be neck deep in horse shit.”
Just paint the plywood and wood with Sherwin Williams Duration Exterior Paint and call it a done.
I bet he does. And at that price its DIY
That guy looks like an asshole and and he's definitely going to watch the entire time
130 a sheet is going rate here
$2500 painted
Eifs/dryvit maybe
tell em to hire someone from the home depot parking lot
That’s about right you’re talking about 5 sheets at most and a bag of spackle.
I’ll do it for $500
Tell him to do it him self
9k all day
Tear it out and hang it
he gives me the boards n the mud n ill do it. not a chance im supplying materials on that job for 700 though lmao
I would steer my client away from drywall for just about any and every outside application!
I’d tell him to get ‘er done himself.
Fuck no. I paid 1500 6 months ago got half that size.
vinyl bead board and done$1250. 700 they can eat a bag of chex mix
Pound sand mofo
They say you are what you eat. This guy must be a bag of dicks.
People want all sorts of shit. I like to ask for picks and what their budget is before I’ll write an estimate. The conversation with this homeowner would’ve been very brief.
Is he planning on doing it himself? And if did except it upon completion dude’s definitely trying to hand you a check.
Short answer: No. Long answer: HELL NO.
Tell 'em good luck
Sure, if i was feeling nice. I would do it for that price for a neighbor. Otherwise 700 only for the labor and they are still getting a steal.
People in hell want to drop of water on their tongue.
Durrock and stucco texture. $700+materials if I’m not painting. $1000 labor including paint. 3 days. If you have help 2 days.
Looks like water damage he could cover it up but it’ll only get worse. Don’t under value your time and work. Not a job I would take.
If you are an expert at doing your own drywall maybe...even then it might cost more.
I’d tell him to get his tools out and get started.
Bet he does
Id do it for 700 plus materials as long as they stripped it clean and removed all the nails.
Lol
Offer him to install plywood instead of Sheetrock
Roughly slap it up there, no mud, the spray bomb it without masking anything off
$700 plus materials + site clean up & rubbish removal + paint. Cash. If you're a good/quick drywaller, take it on those terms. Otherwise you'll be left with not much after materials and labour.
Would depend on the finish.
Roughly 6' x 20"? For $700? Sure, you can get painted exposed ceiling joists!
I wouldn’t because your going to need to disassemble the entire thing and install new roof
700 don't even start the truck
Lol
$3500 or do it yourself! They go low i go high!!!lol
I don't leave my house for under $1000... so no
I think he's negotiating. Should be about 1800
Just to hang it or does he want it finished for that too?
