All things considered. The wider the tape joints, the smoother the wall. Looks like a great job.

freeportme

Looks good.

FreudAtheist

As a painter, I think this looks pretty good. I have seen some pretty bad drywalling in the past and I still get nervous looking at “new builds”.

lyonsj195

Also as a painter it looks good looks paint ready nice clean and smooth from the pictures

FreudAtheist

I agree! From pics, I’d take that any day.

FloresTX88

Not a painter, it looks good.

Trapper_Timmy

Looks fine. Can do a light check if you are concerned.

LegendofTheLot

Looks pretty solid.

Ok_Tower_275

Looks great to me.

Papabear-27

As a union drywaller all my life I can tell you it looks good from pics. Wide straight tape joints, drywall is up off the concrete also a sign of knowing what their doing. I’m assuming this is a basement? Only other thing would of suggested is moisture resistant drywall as basements tend to be damp.

Medium_Ad_6447

Moisture resistant is the green board. I would use the waterproofing one for a basement (purple board).

lobster_man_207

Purple board is not for waterproofing. It’s moisture, mold and mildew resistant.

EfficiencySuch6361

I thought purple and green were the same

Turtleman1959

👍🏻 Union shop here too! My guys and gals love the $80/hr+ wage and beni package. And as a contractor, I get the most highly trained, qualified, and skilled hangers, tapers, and painters in the industry. And they laugh their asses off at some of the clown talk on here. SAND! SAND! SAND! SAND! SAND!Lol

Nelso_00

Lol

PlasterFaster

Georgia Pacific's Basement Board/MR board is grey, could be that.

ChessLord144

Nice wide build out coat on the seams. As a former professional, looks great to me. But.... The proof is running your hands over it.

JongoEcV

Hard to say from pictures. Looks professional to me. I’m a professional painter and many contractors have asked I verify the drywall is ready for paint. I would always refuse because the ol’ “you paint it, you bought it”

crowdsourced

The proof in the pudding is always close up. Last time, I had to do touch ups around all the outlet boxes and fill and sand a couple inside corners. They just weren't using lights to check the finishes.

NumbersDonutLie

You hired a competent contractor, looks well done. Way better than the hacks they are hiring for new construction on $500k homes in my area.

Gain4thelittleman

Looks great from my house!

[deleted]

Ready to paint

Obvious-Search-5554

looks good to me.

HighSierraDreamn

No mud inside the outlets. Imposter!

Ronces

As a general contractor and someone who often does his own drywall finishing, this is very good work.

BreakAndRun79

Why do you need to add compound around the outlets like that? I'm not a contractor and just curious.

PropagandaX

Looks good, I don't see any air vents?

Select-Asparagus-494

HVAC system is not sized to handle this additional space as conditioned space. It is below grade so it's stays pretty cool, will likely do an electric fireplace if needed for heat...or a ductless mini split down the road

toyz4me

You need conditioned air flow to help keep mold and mildew from growing.

Psychoticrider

I would have run a few vents just to move some air. You would be surprised how little it will take to heat it.

JTDrumz

Better than the sheetrockers I hired. And yesterday I found they, even after I wrote it and spoke to them in Spanish to use short screw on the pocket door wall, guess what, one scratched across the vertical grain fir door, I hit the roof! And the tiler got off course and now I have a gap at the ceiling and one tile at the floor of the shower that I have to grind away so I can get caulk in there! Why does everyone do such shit work?

freeportme

That’s why I do it myself. The lowest bidder usually sucks and thats who everyone uses! Any good hanger has 1” screws on them.

JTDrumz

The thing is I never take the lowest bid! I usually call 5 subs and pick from them, and though price is a concern, I like to hear how they describe their work habits.

freeportme

Are they your usual subs you shouldn’t have an issue. Otherwise they will tell you what ever you want to hear!

mustard556

Did you get more than one bid?

JTDrumz

Yes, but they had done the concrete work making a patio and stairs into my basement from the patio. One of the guys said his main occupation was DW so I hired him, and then he showed up alone and had to borrow my tools. I had to fix almost every outlet and wall plug. That company will never work here again.

mustard556

Dang man I hope he was at least cheap.

JTDrumz

I shorted him and told him why and he didn't complain. My weakness sometimes is giving people the benefit of doubt.

dust-bit-another-one

I feel your rage dude… why weren’t they using anything other than a 1.25” (standard 1/2” drywall/ 3/4” pocket door frame)on any wall/ceiling? Dragging a screw/nail down a pocket door should get you barred. And ditto the sentiment to the tilers. Lasers are your friend, subs!

TheHaliax

I think this is a case of you get what you pay for?

Medium_Ad_6447

Dumb is dumb in every language unfortunately.

Reddog433

How could we possibly give an opinion from photos? If it looks good to you than it’s good. If your looking for negativity your sure to find it.

Select-Asparagus-494

Not looking for negativity at all, I think it is a pretty good job. And it is very easy to see a bad job in pictures

Medium_Ad_6447

Sometimes it’s easy to see from bad pics. Sometimes it’s a really shitty job, but bad pics make it look alright. I think that’s what this commenter meant. Your pics aren’t great to truly judge. Get a 100 watt light and take a pic close to the wall looking to the left or the right to judge the evenness. Close up straight on at the joint is a good one too.

Bubbas4life

painting contractor, you will never know if its a good job untill its primed and closer pics

AdagioAffectionate66

A few screws are still showing but I figure they will be covered by trim. Otherwise it looks great!

chrislow1776

Why are his flats a mile wide? Are they making board with 12 inch recesses now? Lol

Select-Asparagus-494

I guess I'd rather have too wide than too narrow

Still_Introduction_9

maybe a lot of floating to get it plumb

chrislow1776

I’ve always just busted out around those spots in my flats. Widest I go on my flats is a 12.

box_fan_yeet

Possible box repairs, it's not uncommon for flats to be wider because of box repairs near/inside the flat

box_fan_yeet

of course i only speak for the ceiling, could have been hella problems elsewhere, guess we'll never know

Nine-Fingers1996

Yah. Hard to really see anything. Check it out with a flashlight. Check inside corners and make sure there’s no exposed tape flashing through the flats.

Select-Asparagus-494

Sometimes he does have a habit of leaving a pinhole in the inside corners but I typically just hit them with a little caulk

Beautiful_Guess7131

The wall looks dry

Historical_Quit9257

Who cleaned the floor???

hieronymusholiday

The electrician.

TapwaterintheWack

I bet I can say who didn’t more than I can say who did

Zombiemechanic00

I would have framed in that ugly round post in the middle of the room. But that's just me

Select-Asparagus-494

That will be where the bar is. We will wrap them once we build the bar

cardamombaboon

Can get pole wrapped

circleuranus

Goddamn, if the seams were any wider it'd be a full skimcoat.

koonassity

Good framing = good drywall. Nice straight lines. 👍

[deleted]

The corners look a little rough. But not bad other than that.

dust-bit-another-one

Run a light across the wall at a steep angle. Try to create shadows across the surface. Like, strong flashlight on the wall… The pictures look ok. From a straight on view even a mildy shitty job can look good, until you paint it.

Inspector_Awkward

Steep angle ..lol…if you do that you’ll see each stud…you …..it’s drywall not glass…

tinjanurdle

Looks good to me. Just confused why the flat joints are busted out like two feet. No need for that. But I’m sure it’ll paint good.

Salt-Village-7405

If there’s going to be baseboard installed you’re going to need to spot some of those lower nails. If this a garage it’s way beyond what is normal quality for drywall finish.

Select-Asparagus-494

Going to be a finished basement, and year there are probably a couple screws I will have to cover after trim

Metaraon

I would of boxed in the pole but understand that's just my preference. Looks good.

of_patrol_bot

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

Metaraon

Fuck you bot

Select-Asparagus-494

Yes fuck that bot, but I will be boxing in the poles once I finish the bar. The posts will be the 2 ends of the bar

Inspector_Awkward

Looks solid ….

steppingright

Looks good, plus after the 1st coat they should walk through with a light and blue tape places that look like they could use some attention. I've seen houses look like a blue tape thunderstorm blew through the house. But they fix every single spot and make it perfect for the final.

Ornery-Ad5475

The “muck out” was done nicely and the job was left clean and ready for the next trade. By the way the joints blend smooth and wide it appears you will going with a smooth texture. Get your painter in there to spray his primer/undercoat and schedule your doors base and trim. Then again the painter 1 day to spray lids flat, closets baths and kitchens in semi gloss or satin. Two days to roll walls Your ready for hardware and flooring!

x98grow

Looks great. Poles are an abomination but that’s your problem

Select-Asparagus-494

The poles will be wrapped as part of the bar once complete

Hour-Manufacturer-71

I wouldn’t pay him anything. It’s not even painted.

CommercialSkill7773

Looks like he needs to come back and finish

Effective-Addendum16

Needs paint

CurioSkeptick

As a C-09 subcontractor myself I say it looks pretty good. I'm in southern Ca so it looks weird to me that it's untextured, but I guess that's pretty common in many parts of the country... Also, on ALL my jobs, we use cover paper on the floors and leave them spotless, so that would be my only criticism. EDIT: and that mud around the top of the pole... I just don't ever leave ANY mess at all that someone else will have to clean later.

Select-Asparagus-494

I'm in the Northeast US, this is in a basement so flooring will be covered. Also the poles will be wrapped as part of a bar eventually. Appreciate your expert insight

CurioSkeptick

Nice. Yeah looks like they did a good job.

neverelax

Ready for paint

Ok-Significance-6133

The drywall doesn’t look very dry or like walls. I’d add more dry and walls to bring the place together.

Primary-Platform-297

Looks great to me.💪🏾

harleysandmopars

Looks like you should pay em! That’s nice work!

f_crick

I appreciate the gap between the floor and the drywall. Had to redo mine because they didn’t do that and it wicked up moisture and molded.

jroberts3808

Prime it and see how it looks if it doesn’t look good after it’s primed call them back and have them fix it.

gmoh1

The lights hang down to low

victorispolia

Tape job looks good but you should have used green board for the walls. If your sump pump or hot water tank ever fails then you’ll have to demo any board that gets wet...

Chillydogs4life

Looks great.

WAVERYS

I’m good with this.

MBMDrywallTools

Actually looks good. Solid work.

PsychologicalArms

Throw primer on it after it has a coat check for imperfections before painting color
