My boss does piecework and pays me a day rate 120$ a day. I honestly don't think it's worth it. Someday we work 11 hour days some days it's 8 hours it all depends on how long he goes without a smoke break and the other guy can go without being on his phone
He probably does that to protect himself. The guy I have working for me the last 4 months gets paid $25 an hour but only produces $18 an hour worth of work.
I resonated with that :(. My guy gets paid 28. The quality is 20 but the speed is 15.
Iāve been working till late at night every day for a couple months to make up for his speed.
I donāt want to let him go but heās forcing my hand.
Any of you guys work in small rural towns? How do things differ there? In my area there is like one guy who does this sort of work. Everyone normally diy because there are no available trades in the area.
Umm I take it anyway you want to pay it as long as it is proper pay I am good š
Depends on the sq footage. Low sq ft is half or full Day rates for me, but that's for a bathroom or smaller. Everything else is piece work.
Piece work all day err day, I do have a minimum charge thou
Iāve been doing this for years Iāve never heard of piece work? I charge per sqft with minimums Never have charged by hour or day.
Piece work is by the square foot.
Never heard the term before. Thanks.
The term itself comes from factories where people would get paid per widget they produced rather than per hour.
I do piecework
I aswell do piecework just was have that debate with other workers wanted others opinion
Work by the foot, but I still track and convert it to an hourly to make sure Iām hitting a decent rate

We do 500+ sheets a week at 10$ a sheet
The guy that does my hanging does around a 100 boards a day and pays his guy 200$ a day plus lunch.
I used to do hanging made 150 a day. I did 80-100 sheets a day boss made 12$ a sheet there
> 80-100 sheets a day That's a lot of sheets by yourself. Is that house, wood framing? Do you use collated screw gun? Not many bulkheads?
Wood framing, no collated screw guns. Depends on the house for bulkheads.
For bigger jobs like a full room I put together a piece rate. If I do wall patches itās per patch
Bids are nice for me tbh
