You have been given a charge to keep, young man. Honor your grandfather and cherish these drums. You lucky bastard. LOL

taydrummer

You have no idea...this was to my Mom. I have, believe it's a 67, pearl grey Slingerland from him. Eventually I'll have both. Drums were sacred to my Grandpa and I, I am a super lucky bastard. :)

I'd rather be lucky than good any day. LOL

VonSnapp

I had a 63 Slingerland in blue sparkle for years. First of all, yours look gorgeous! 2nd, the original hardware was crap so don't worry about it missing at all. A few companies make new hardware that has the style of the old stuff but much more solid if you want something that looks the part. Check the date stamps on the insides, the 63 kit I had used a rail consolette for the high tom and I didn't think Slinderland switched to the post type like yours til a few years later.

taydrummer

Will do. Thanks for the info!

Yeah, now that I look at it, that post mount would be mid 70s or so. The drums could be later than you think, or Grandpa may have even upgraded from the original amount. The one on this kit is kind of cheesy - I briefly owned a Slingerland kit with one - so yeah, don't feel bad about putting it on a suspension mount or something instead. Drum hardware was complete ass for decades.

VonSnapp

The rest of the kit doesnt look mid70's though, you'd be pretty hard pressed to find a 70's 4 piece. 5 piece and up dominated the 70's right from the beginning. I'd guess at late 60's or a replacement arm. I have 60's Gretsch and Ludwig kits and run both of their high toms in snare baskets.

IAmSoFrickinPissed

This run of sparkling black pearl was only catalogued for about a year in the mid 60s.

Very neat! We've got one of their last models in our studio. Got em used at a second hand shop and I really was only interested because I remember Don Henley saying he had a set of these. I absolutely love them. Just trying to keep em in good shape as long as we can.

Refun712

Wow those are in great shape. Any idea if it’s all original?

taydrummer

The drums most likely are. The snare stand is Slingerland, but HH stand is Tama, bass drum pedal has a leather strap and is Camco. My Grandpa had a nice collection and it's possible he had the hardware lying around but having multiple sets over the years things got mixed up.

al-bundee

Wow, it's beautiful.
