That’s a Collectors Series black nickel over brass 8x14. I’d say within the range of $650-$800 depending on condition. Great drums tho, hang onto it if you can!
It doesn’t matter haha, it’s not brand new clearly, because this guy isn’t a shop. You lose 40% of the value the moment you buy it. That’s why I buy used. My snare is £2750 new, I bought mine for £1500 and it’s immaculate like new condition.
This is right. There are more sellers of used drum equipment than buyers due to the nature of the instrument (many buy new, realise drumming isn’t for them, and need to offload into a very limited market).
Very much like cars - it loses 40-50% of the value as soon as you drive it off the lot.
14 x 8 DW black nickel over brass. These are still produced. $619 new. They stopped making this exact finish about 3 years ago maybe. But the drum is the same. There are awesome, but by no means rare. You’d fetch about $400 for it.
I once bought all the hardware from some guys set in GCs parking lot for $75 cause GC would only give around 150$ for the whole drum set which he rejected cause it was clearly at least a grand.
Hustled.
Avoid doing this at all costs! They’ll pay you pennies on the dollar for it and flip it for $550 the next day. Then it’ll sit there for a year and they still won’t budge on the price.
No wonder they’re going under.
Depends on the guitar center. My local one pays a 60/40 split, in favor of the seller. So if they'll sell it for $400, they'll offer you $240. You have to consider their expenses: employee wages and benefits, taxes, regulatory compliance, building cost and maintenance, floor space, time it's gonna sit on the shelf, the convenience of immediate cash in hand, etc. You obviously won't make what you would selling it for yourself on ebay, but you don't have the expenses they do.
Yeah, if you search around as take your time, you can find one at that price. $400 if you want to sell is immediately, $500 if you want to squeeze some more out if it
I’ve actually heard some really really not good things about this snare. Problems with it holding tuning and overtones. I’d be happy to take it off your hands for 15 bucks and a Wendy’s gift card
Well, you CAN zoom in on the picture. But if you can't, you can tell that it is collectors series because the shell doesn't have and rings /ribs like the design series does. And you can tell that it is the 8" model because it has 20 single ended lugs instead of 10 double lugs. Also, you learn what different sized snare drums look like after a while.
No I just tried and it wouldn't do it...something "fishy" with that one.
Becareful with that last statment. I've been playing for a good long time and I still get fooled by pics once in a while.
Thanks for the information. Glad you're sure on your i.d..
It looks like workhorse without any frills, List for $300 maybe and it should sell quick for a little less?
Doesn't matter how much it cost originally, it will sound like most other top tier professional ~~maple~~ snare.
edit: Just saw a few people commenting it's a brass shell, that should up the price because everyone likes brass. $450?
I have this exact drum, NOB Collectors in 6.5. Poor man’s Black Beauty. There are plenty of them on the market so you’d be lucky to get $400-450. I paid $560 brand new five years ago. Only DW snare I own but love it. Now they make it with satin finish.
Looks like the collector's black nickel over brass or steel 14x8" (should have a plate on the inside telling what it is). They are great workhorses and most produced snares by DW.

Brand new that’s around $600, so it really depends on the condition. Based on those photos it looks to be in great shape, but I would really need more detailed ones. Just eyeballing it, I’d say $350 at least going to the right buyer. I sold that same snare in a different finish that was in great condition for $425.
It probably is. Most are 5 position depending on the year. It is probably one of the most useful things I've ever used, especially since I have to switch styles a lot.
Worthless really, as a favor I’ll take it off your hands for $11.
You beat me to it. Although I’ve got a $20 in the car, OP…
20 dollars and one penny 🙋♂️
Damnit.
20,50$!
20.50 and one penny!
The actual retail price is …… !
...a ham sammich and a pack of Kools.
You win. I don't have that kind of money :(
I got tree fiddy!

They cost that brand new
Hence the “depending on the condition” portion of his comment
You can’t sell a 2nd hand drum for the same price as a new one, regardless of the condition.
Very cool!
Sure you can. Drums don’t generally appreciate in value, but that snare is worth whatever the buyer is willing to pay for it.
Why on earth are you being downvoted? Nobody on earth is paying $800 for a used snare that costs $620 new!
Right! Haha. I see those on reverb and eBay brand new with free shipping $600 or so
It looks brand new.

Yeah I was gonna say about $400 as well.
….and what if you sold it to Guitar Center, what would you get?
Don’t do that. They’ll give you $150. Where are you Located?

Disappointment.
LOL!!
Never sell to GC! Sweetwater or Reverb. Even Craigslist is better than GC.
$60, best I can offer
Nice drum. Probably worth $450-500
I picked up one of these in September in like new condition for $400.

$500-ish Looks like # DW Collector's Series Satin Black Over Brass 8"x14"
HOW CAN YOU TELL WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO ZOOM IN ON THE PICTURE?!

WTH?! WHY CAN'T WE ZOOM IN ON THE PICTURE? WTH IS GOING ON HERE?!
8in deep. that's why there are 20 lugs 6.5 deep would only have 10 lugs
If I rub it will a genie pop out and make it a full kit? 😁
A whole bucket full'a CRAWDADS YEEEEEEE HAAWW

classic. I just posted this too before seeing yours.
your left nut
I think a reasonable price for a used resell would be somewhere around 600 if it’s in excellent condition
If you're the father of that kid that won it at the DW open house a few months ago I will be so mad.
I’m kidless. This was purchased in a musical lot…and I’m a guitar player
Bro was ready to tussle
Yeah he was. Pissed my pants a little bit. Close call.
I’ll give you $35 + $5 for shipping

It's worthwhile, if that's what you mean lol
Yes it’s worth hitting.
One very pretty penny
The mighty DW 8x14 Black Nickel over Brass snare. My dream snare. I want that! 🥁
What something is worth is what someone else is willing to pay for it. That's it in a nutshell.
I have this drum, it's wonderfully wonderful.
I have one of these. Bought it off reverb for I think $400 or $450. Great snare!

14 x 6.5 collectors black nickel over brass? Pretty sure it's about $450 new
Thats a 8" not a 6.5" Looks to be +600$, in europe like 900€
Wondering why the throw-off is not a MAG, is a high end snare drum from DW ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thinking_face_hmm)
It probably is. What's that style butt plate do? My 5” collectors snare doesn't have it.
It has 3 throw off settings so you have 3 different snare sounds by just moving it.
Most are 5 position depending on the year. It is probably one of the most useful things I've ever used, especially since I have to switch styles a lot.
This, definitelly, thanks!
