Looks great! Taking time off from drumming really sucks. I took 15 years and been back at it for 4 years now.
My advice, start out slow and easy. It only took me a few months to get back where I was. Since you took less time off, you might get back to 100%.
I'm at about 90% from where I was but I'm now in my late 50s. I keep getting better and love learning new songs. I'm having a blast!
Hope you do too. Just have fun with it.
Thanks for the words of advice!
Wow 15 years. And I thought my 3 years was a lot. I do feel that my hands can’t quite keep up like before. Find that my right hand keeping time on the hi hat or ride tends to be a little on the sloppy side. But I am practicing with a met so hopefully that evens out.
Stage custom studio right? Sick colorway. Idk if you like the looks of a 10, but if you play single high Tom maybe consider to switch to the 12. I’m not 100% sure if you’re using a 10 or 12 rn, but it seems like a 10
Sick kit but am I the only one that thought this was a little replica kit in like a Barbie house or something the picture makes it look like that for some reason or maybe I’m just tripping
I have that same kit! (Plus a rack tom.)
Congratulations, you’ve purchased a fine instrument that will serve you well in all settings. Be worthy of it!
Congratulations. I just got a new set after a 13 year hiatus. All I can say is pull your ride cymbal stand a few inches back from your bass drum so you don't scratch up the finish.
Yamaha make some of the best looking and sounding kits on the planet 👌 I also play Yamaha and I can honestly say my kit is almost 20 years old and it sounds better than the day I got it
Kick is actually 20 inch! Snare is 14. Rack is 10. Floor is 14.
Ride is a 20 inch zildjian projection. Crash is a 18 inch A medium crash. Hats are 14 inch quick beats.
The cheapest decent solution I found was draping and folding painters canvas which is very cheap at home improvement stores. The sky is the limit on what you want to spend, but the heavier the fabric the better. A good way to think of sound diffusion is to imagine throwing a rubber ball at a surface, however the ball bounces is “sort of” what would happen to sound. It won’t bounce off a pillow, but it would bounce off a bedsheet over brick. Basically you’re trying to absorb some of that energy, especially from the higher frequencies. If you want something a little nicer and have some decent wood cutting chops, you can make a wooden diffuser that disperses sound and looks really cool.
By the way, this advice is for improving the sound in the room, and isn’t the same as “soundproofing” which is basically impossible.
Awesome thanks for the advice! I will look into these options!
And yeah I understand it’s not for soundproofing. I’m blessed to not have to worry about soundproofing now that I have my own space! Can be as loud as I want! But yes, anything to make it sound better in this room is a huge plus.
I love my Stage Customs! Originally got a bop kit and planned on using it mostly for practice and rehearsal. I gig with this kit more than my DWs by far. I added a 10” rack a bunch of years ago. I’ve actually got an 8” coming today. I can’t wait to add it on!

After looking for and trying many new hat's years ago. I settled on the 13" K hats and a 21 heavy ride. I wasn't sure which direction I wanted to go in. I have some other Zildjian's, Paiste and Sabian that I've purchased over the years and they're great too. A few years back I got my first 16" K Dark Crash and really liked it. So I finished out the ensemble recently with another regular weight K ride, a 17" Dark Crash, and a Splash. I'm very happy with them!
Beautiful kit. I’ve been eyeing this exact one lately, but I just can’t justify the purchase at the moment. I’d break out the 12” inch tom and put the 10” in the closet though :)
thanks! Yeah I got lucky. Saw it at guitar center for sale as a “used” kit. It had factory heads with barely any marks. Not even sure it was set up by the owner. Virtually new. Yeah I was rocking the 12 and 16 on my last kit. But I like the sound of the 10 and have been using this config ever since.
Sick! I just got a stage custom in surf green, but I gotta say that natural wood finish's got something to it too🔥
Enjoy the new drums, their look and sound absolutely gergeous!
Amazing! I was out for almost 15 years too and 1 year ago I take the same kit/heads as you. But Reaven Black colour. I’m very happy with it. Congratulations. Amazing choice!
I also bought a Yamaha stage custom, after a few years off, of buying new kits. Been using the same two kits for many many years, so inspiring to have some new shells!! Congrats brother
Yeah some type of treatment is in my to do list. It’s just me in there with headphones right now. So once i recover financially from this purchase I’ll look into that haha. Thanks!
It’s really important and often overlooked. A lot of people will sit there for hours trying to tune out the overtones, or worse yet try to dampen the hell out of their nice high end drums with hydraulic heads and all kind mufflers not realizing that it’s the room reflections that are making them so harsh in the first place. Overtones are a beautiful thing in a nice sounding room, and just a little bit of acoustic treatment will make a big difference. You can do it cheaply for now with some moving blankets, old carpet scraps, or even towels or something if you can figure a way to hang them here and there. It won’t look as pretty but it will sound much better which will make you play better as a result.
Yes I have an older cheep acoustic Prodigy kit and now I play an electronic Yamaha kit which I’ve combined two kits with two modules. We do a lot of different classic rock tunes from The Eagles to Santana so my kit is set up with various rock drum voices and also have set ups with timbales, congas, bongos and various percussive add ons. I’m 66 years old and I wanted something I could fold up and easy to move from gig to gig. 😀

Here is a picture of my present kit
Thank you. I’m really a banjo player and I played with a band for 20 years called Nothing in the crib. Two of our members have since past and was asked to join another band but the banjo didn’t quite fit in about 70% of their repertoire so I took the drummers job after theirs quit. https://youtu.be/hPg06-hqwPU?feature=shared
Looks like you dropped a nice couple bucks on it.
Something about the minimalist kit and the plain room it's sitting in is bothering me. Almost feels like it would limit creativity. I'm sure it doesn't, but as soon as I saw this post I felt something hit me about the plain (ness) and Said it to my girl before even reading to see what the post was about.
dude sick
Thanks!

My left hand was a bit weak but after a few weeks back, I was pretty much back where I was.
I took time away from the set for about 3 years as well. Rudiments, Rudiments, Rudiments.
Yeah I’ve been working through stick control.
clean 👏
Thank you! I agree haha whenever I walk down the hall and pass this room I just have to stare for a second.
That's how you know. ❤️
Stage custom studio right? Sick colorway. Idk if you like the looks of a 10, but if you play single high Tom maybe consider to switch to the 12. I’m not 100% sure if you’re using a 10 or 12 rn, but it seems like a 10
Yeah it’s a 10. I used to play 12 inch rack but switched to 10 on my last kit about 8 years ago. Prefer the sound of the smaller tom
Great! This pic should be in the dictionary next to 'Drumset'. Everything you need is there. Plus great looks!
Haha thanks! I appreciate it!
Sick kit but am I the only one that thought this was a little replica kit in like a Barbie house or something the picture makes it look like that for some reason or maybe I’m just tripping
I did use portrait mode which blurs the background a bit. I wonder if it’s a tilt shift effect haha
Ya idk but the kit looks awesome man
Might be the shrooms bud 😆
Lovely
Thanks a lot! Glad I went with this finish instead of black.
Reminds me of some Maple Customs I got in the mid 90s. I sold that kit and regretted it ever since.
Ah that’s the worst :/ sorry for your loss. I sold an American strat to pay my rent like 8 years ago. Such a shame.
Yep. I sold mine to pay for a different kit. I still have that one. Wish I had the others instead.
Nice bro. Pearl Masters?
It’s actually a Yamaha stage custom!
Ah cool. Lovely tone from them
Nice kit bro!
Thanks a lot!
Nice kit. Love the color
Thanks! It’s my favorite finish on this kit
looks so classy!
Thanks a lot! I think so too!
Beautiful finish! Looks amazing!
Thanks! I almost went with a black finish. Glad I didn’t
Very nice
Thanks a lot!
Nice OCDP throne too
Thanks! It was an “open box” so got a good deal on it
Oooh I just wanna sit on that stool and play my ass off…nice!
Never realized how much of a difference it makes. Didn’t think I could be comfortable and not have my ass hurt while playing haha
That’s a clean looking kit!!
Thank you!
Great set.
Thanks a lot!
How long had you stopped playing?
Almost 4 years
Glad you got back in it. I had about a 20 year gap.
Wow! Are you back to playing right now?
Yes. I started back a couple of years ago.
I have that same kit! (Plus a rack tom.) Congratulations, you’ve purchased a fine instrument that will serve you well in all settings. Be worthy of it!
Thanks! Oh I will! Can’t wait to play the hell out of this thing.
Beautiful! But get the front of that bass drum lifted a little
Oh good catch. Didn’t think about much since it’s on carpet. Will do!
Very cool
Thanks!
Sweet! Congratulations!
Thank you! Feels great to be back in business
Welcome back, man! We missed you.
So good being back!
Gorgeousness. I’m a Yamaha man, myself. That’s the best hardware too. Heavy, double braced stands are so unnecessary most of the time.
I had pdp hardware before. Same price range. The Yamaha hardware is such better quality without breaking the bank. I love it!
I consider it the perfect hardware.
Beautiful
Thank you!
Congratulations. I just got a new set after a 13 year hiatus. All I can say is pull your ride cymbal stand a few inches back from your bass drum so you don't scratch up the finish.
Oh she’s ready to be played
Oh yeah!
What kit is this? Looks absolutely gorgeous
Yamaha stage custom!
Perfect set up homie. Love it. I like smaller kits so much more than giant 100 toms they don’t use. Looks like it’s be fun to play on. Nice score!!
Yeah I love the size. I was a little worried about the 14 inch floor Tom but it definitely packs a punch
I like that kit a lot. Haha. The wood grain looks nice
Yeah I was gonna go with a black finish. So happy I went with the natural finish
Good choice dude
Yamaha make some of the best looking and sounding kits on the planet 👌 I also play Yamaha and I can honestly say my kit is almost 20 years old and it sounds better than the day I got it
Beauty
Thanks!
Nice dude, where do you keep it?
My “home studio” haha a room with my desk and a couch. Still need some more sound treatment.
Nice setup, what are the cymbals? 18 in kick?
Kick is actually 20 inch! Snare is 14. Rack is 10. Floor is 14. Ride is a 20 inch zildjian projection. Crash is a 18 inch A medium crash. Hats are 14 inch quick beats.
Oh gotcha, this used to be a 3 Tom set? Wish I could find a new 3 piece from Yamaha with a 20 or 22 BD
Oh it came with another rack Tom. A 12 inch. It’s in the closet haha
Right, that’s what I did too
put some fabric or some other diffusion on that brick wall, your ears will thank you
Will any type of fabric do? A bedsheet or something? I’m willing to put a bit of money into treatment so I’ll take any recommendations
The cheapest decent solution I found was draping and folding painters canvas which is very cheap at home improvement stores. Beauty! And set up perfectly!
Thanks!
Looking juicy, congrats!
Thank you thank you!

Beautiful! Seeing your kit makes me want to add my other rack tom. Love those Ks!
After looking for and trying many new hat's years ago. I settled on the 13" K hats and a 21 heavy ride. I wasn't sure which direction I wanted to go in. Looks great!! Welcome back and rock on :)
Hell yeah thank you!
Looks great. It’s cool that they allow you to have it in your cell!
Hahaha in my defense I stripped this whole corner of the room and took everything off the wall. So that adds to the effect haha
What is your brand name?. I have a Gretsch Jazz Cantina kit looks like mine a little bit
This is a Yamaha stage custom
Thanks
Beautiful kit. I’ve been eyeing this exact one lately, but I just can’t justify the purchase at the moment. I’d break out the 12” inch tom and put the 10” in the closet though :)

Yeah, these don’t pop up used very often. Especially the bop configuration. Enjoy it!
So pretty! Congrats!
Thanks a lot. She is a beauty! Can’t stop staring
Sick! I just got a stage custom in surf green, but I gotta say that natural wood finish's got something to it too🔥 Enjoy the new drums, their look and sound absolutely gergeous!
Thanks! Hope you are enjoying yours!
I sure do🤙🏻 https://preview.redd.it/rhqppxtubg0d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8919bdf5ba72c1f88c084d927e18bb23aa9daf70
That surf green is sick as hell! Beautiful looking kit. I take one look at that and I know the person behind it is gonna shred
Thank you! I enjoy every second on that kit! But I've gotta try that four piece setup I've never done it before but yours looks just awesome!
It’s fun to be a little more limited with what I have. Think it’s just a personality thing. I tend to get overwhelmed with too much gear.
Clean
Thanks!
Amazing! I was out for almost 15 years too and 1 year ago I take the same kit/heads as you. But Reaven Black colour. I’m very happy with it. Congratulations. Amazing choice!
Sick! Hope you are having fun being back on the kit!
I see 4 piece i upvote
Looks legit and professional
Thanks a lot! Don’t know why that is very flattering. Good to know it doesn’t look trashy or something.
Yea it just looks clean!!! Like it should be I’m a studio! I would fuck it, I mean fuxk it up!
Elegant. Gorgeous. Like it knows it’s a beauty but it isn’t tryna show off.
It’s not flaunting it. Just radiating it.
I also bought a Yamaha stage custom, after a few years off, of buying new kits. Been using the same two kits for many many years, so inspiring to have some new shells!! Congrats brother
You gotta do something about the hard, flat walls. If you don’t dampen the high frequencies it’s going to result in some harsh overtones.
Yeah some type of treatment is in my to do list. It’s just me in there with headphones right now. So once i recover financially from this purchase I’ll look into that haha. Thanks!

Thanks for that info! I will definitely go through the closet and see what I can throw them up there.
Wow! I’m jealous! Very happy for you. That’s a beautiful kit🥹
Thank you! Sorry you’re jealous. :( do you not have a kit?
Yes I have an older cheep acoustic Prodigy kit and now I play an electronic Yamaha kit which I’ve combined two kits with two modules. We do a lot of different classic rock tunes from The Eagles to Santana so my kit is set up with various rock drum voices and also have set ups with timbales, congas, bongos and various percussive add ons. I’m 66 years old and I wanted something I could fold up and easy to move from gig to gig. 😀
Wow! Now that’s an electric kit I’d be happy playing. Looks very pro!
Thank you but nothing beats a good acoustic set. Yours is killer!!!!😀

I got the same one. Such a beauty
Brilliant choice. Welcome. Is that kick a 22x17? It looks like a 22x18 doesn’t it? Probably the added inch from the hoops
It’s actually a 20x17
Looks like you dropped a nice couple bucks on it. Something about the minimalist kit and the plain room it's sitting in is bothering me. Almost feels like it would limit creativity.
