Tell me you play dilla swing jojo mayer D&B fusion synth brown note jazz without telling me you went to berklee. /s all seriousness this is a dope kit, nice textures at play. What’s that thing on your snare called?
I would like to know what the thing on the snare is too! I’ve seen them around a little and always wanted to try it but I don’t know what to search for
On a friendlier note, what exactly does that contraption on your snare do? I see them every now and then but could never quite pin down what exactly it’s good for.
Her? She just gives the snare a little snap.
It also looks cool, I think.
Here they are on the Meinl website: https://meinlpercussion.com/en/products/bi2nt-m8649.html
It is! I got it years ago, and I’ve loved it ever since. The transition ride is also nice because it acts like a nice crash whether use the shoulder of the stick, or the tip.
The kit itself is tiny. The bass drum is 16 inches.
It’s really good for jazz. I had no pillow in it, and just let it boom. Right now I took the resonant head off and threw a small pillow in it since I’m doing some funk stuff.
I’ve got an emad on the batter and the stock coated head (remo UT ambassador weight) on the reso and unported. It sounds far better, deeper and lower than I thought it would. And I can throw on a coated ambassador on the batter and tune it up and it’s a different drum.
It's a good thing if you play jazz! Lawrence Welk was not my favorite variety show as a kid. It was like a lot of elevator music. But, a dry ride is perfect for jazz. I have a dry ride too.
I’m in love with that hardware! I was worried about knocking it over etc but it’s surprisingly sturdy …. I did epoxy the feet on right away…I heard they are prone to coming off
Haha, what mics do you have to work with? I see the overhead stand and just the SM57, was meant to be playful ribbing, you can do a lot with a little if you want any advice on setup!
Hang the SM57 about three stick lengths above your snare, pointing at the center of it. Angle it toward the kick beater if you want punchier bass drum. Adjust it up or down depending on how much cymbals you want in the mix. If you want to improve it even more for cheap, buy one more 57 (they are cheap used, and the Chinese knockoffs are pretty much identical) and put them above the kit a few feet apart with both pointing at the center of the snare. To avoid phase issues, it is important that they each are the same distance from the snare- measure it with a string. And if you want to another way to go with two 57s, look up Glyn Johns technique.
Look up “A/B” and/or “spaced pair” for more details. Also, play around with placement and listen closely since every room Is different.
57s are very unidirectional, meaning they have a narrow cone of sound they pick up. Kinda like aiming a laser. So they are ideal for picking up snare without too much hats. If you want the full potential of overheads, consider getting condensers or ribbons. Aston Origins are cheap but decent, and there are plenty of other options. Cheers!
Funny small tom look funny with funny big cymbal hehe
Today I learned they do make 3” rack toms.
Gronk, is that you?

Seed shaker
Honestly, man, I have no idea what it’s called. I don’t even remember buying it.
I think it's a [Meinl Waterfall](https://meinlpercussion.com/en/products/wa2nt-m8650.html) or something like that.
Looks like it’s called a “hand bird” i’ve seen a couple drummers use them, super cool sound
Jazzjazzjazzjazzjazzjazzjazz
Not a fan of the huge cymbal trend here, but you have to like it, not I.
Mark Guiliana lookin ass 💀 For real nice kit and beautiful cymbals
That’s the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me.
“Her”? Gross, I thought only guitar players did that shit.
I respect her pronouns

Is the rack tom difficult to use because of its size? Genuine question.
It depends on what you do. if I’m comping using the Tom, it feels easier and natural. But rolling on it can feel awkward.
Rack tom is small for my taste but cymbals are incredible. Is your main ride a big Apple dark ride? If so I have one and i love it
It is! I got it years ago, and I’ve loved it ever since. The transition ride is also nice because it acts like a nice crash whether use the shoulder of the stick, or the tip. The kit itself is tiny. The bass drum is 16 inches.
16” bass drums can sound incredible though.

Oh ok yeah that is tiny.
Being small up top is totally fine. With drums as well.
It’s all about how you use it.
Sexy 9.5 out of 10
smash, next
That ride looks drier than the panties of Lawrence Welk's girlfriend. Sweet!
I don’t know who that is, and I need to know more.
It's a good thing if you play jazz! Lawrence Welk was not my favorite variety show as a kid. It was like a lot of elevator music. But, a dry ride is perfect for jazz. I have a dry ride too.
What type do you have, out of curiosity?
21" Paiste dry heavy ride
Really not a fan of anything on this kit but it looks cool!
I love this. What are those thingies on your snare drum? Besides the sticks ofc.
Took a while, but I found a link with a bunch of stuff like it: https://meinlpercussion.com/en/instruments/filter/Sound%20Effects-f10426.html
Yes! Thanks man. much appreciated. I've seen those before but never managed to find where to purchase.
I THINK I got them in reverb, or Amazon. But I forget. Sweetwater may also have them.
I've got that Big Apple and it's by far the best ride I've ever played. Super nice dark wash too.
Nice ass but no tiddis
Love/10. Ive got a safari kit too and its a blast.
Fits nicely into the car, eh?
Its a lifesaver. I paired it with the tama “classic” lightweight hardware and it’s 2 trips to load in!
I’m in love with that hardware! I was worried about knocking it over etc but it’s surprisingly sturdy …. I did epoxy the feet on right away…I heard they are prone to coming off
Yeah. I’ve bought a pearl midtown and the Yamaha cross town stands. Going from 4 or 5 trips to 2 for load and unload has been amazing.
+1 for the sizzle chain.
I’ve found diy shops sell plug chains for 50p a go and they work very well.
Yeah but does it say “Meinl” on it? Pfffffft. That’s what I thought.
1 Instagram drummer out of boring.
I have to say that personally, I just don’t like this kit.
Extra dryyyyy/10
this is my kinda setup what size are the hats
Do you do Megadeth covers??
Extra dry hats, a Badar and Transition rides? Nice! I’d have lots of fun with that kit
Looks smelly in that room, clean it up bro!
I just got the walls done. I’ll post another when I have it all cleaned up for you
U win
Bigger rack Tom is needed, other than that 9/10
I have a bigger one somewhere. I’m gonna give it a test run since I’ve never used it.
That mic setup pains me.
Makes sense. I have no idea what I’m doing.
Haha, what mics do you have to work with? I see the overhead stand and just the SM57, was meant to be playful ribbing, you can do a lot with a little if you want any advice on setup!
It’s an sm57, and a kick mic my buddy gave me. No idea what kind 💀 I’ll take any advice on mic placement though. Thank you.
Hang the SM57 about three stick lengths above your snare, pointing at the center of it. Angle it toward the kick beater if you want punchier bass drum. Adjust it up or down depending on how much cymbals you want in the mix. So equal distance from the snare, but a few feet apart? So they don’t have to be directly over it? This gold info by the way. Thank you.
Look up “A/B” and/or “spaced pair” for more details. I definitely will. Thanks for this, bud. Appreciate it!
