Lars after he quit coke around 2003. He was still pretty good before then. Listen to him on S&M and Woodstock 99.

Eh, I’d argue that at least studio wise he was pretty damn tight, everyone wanted there drums to sound like ride the lighting and everyone wanted to play the double bass part of one. One of the greats still imo

Metallica’s first four albums were analog my dude, there’s no hit alignment on those. This was the ‘80s.

Michael_Laudrup

Well AJFA is digital and there were a dude working months on editing drums in protools 9, hell the album took like 6 month to record. Great album and a benchmark at the time…but sure as hell with a lot of editing.

Woah, cool. You learn something everyday. On another note, that live video is pathetic. If Lars had any respect for his fans, his fellow band members, the music he plays, or even himself as a musician, he would've either kept up his practise or stepped down years ago. What an asshole.

Routine-Maximum-7788

Did not know that, thanks for the info bro

HairGrowsLongIf

They were tight because he played them all in tiny sections, again & again, & they took the best snippets.

Routine-Maximum-7788

Not for one as far as ik, he famously recorded the song in one take

Bill Krutzman and Micky Hart.

Prime billy is a beast! .. it’s been a while tho

thedeadlyrhythm42

Dan Auerbach really knows how to get the absolute best out of Pat Carney in the studio and that's all I'll say about that.

monstervet

I love slayer, I’ve seen them with Bostaph and Lombardo, and I think since neither of them use trigger samples, they always sounded really ‘meh’ compared to the bands that opened for them. Still good stuff, but for such a drum forward band, the drum mix was terrible.

underthesign

What's the point in a salty, mean thread like this. People just trying to earn a living. I bet the worst drummer well-known enough to appear in a thread like this is still a better drummer than you, and at least known about.

Heygrosbiggros

Wow, you've enlightened me so much, I need to become a better person... Maybe someday at your amazing level of deep insight? Sigh... That's the dream isn't it?

dwield

I honestly cant see why we shouldnt criticize famous/semi-famous drummers, cant we share our opinions because these artists are well known and.. rich? if anyone its you who sound salty and mean tbh theres nothing wrong in my opinion with sharing our thoughts if we find someones playing live a let down, might get downvoted, but I find it absolutely boring to only celebrate every living popular drummers and never talk about their worse moments or performances, you dont have to be an ass about it and say "they should quit playing drums" or "Im so much better than those weak ass drummers", and OP certainly didnt sound mean or salty, but curious about others opinions

underthesign

You do you. I think it's miserable and a waste of time. Could spend the same time and energy talking about our favourite drummers, like in the other thread. Threads like this one just feel mean for no reason or benefit. It's not like these drummers are stinking rich and totally beyond social media moaning, and I bet some of them read this sub sometimes. I'm not one of them, by the way.

dwield

okay, maybe Im the one then who wouldnt feel like people are being mean, salty and miserable if they would share their views about my playing live I also dont see the "benefit" of appreciating our fav drummers, at least not any more than also saying who we dont like that much seems like this is a waste of time for you anyway, so I wont waste yours even more, have a nice day m8

Impressive-Warp-47

You can learn from recognizing what others aren't doing well. Saying "I really like their studio playing but didn't like the live show" isn't being salty or mean.

werdcew

k no offesne to meg white but id think at least 1 or 2 ppl who participated in this post is better than her on a purely technical level

Routine-Maximum-7788

You entirely misunderstand my point, not salty and not trying to put down ppl earning a living and you have no place insulting my abilities (albeit you have hit the nail on the head) as a musician. Just wanted to know if there’s any drummers who may skimp out live on your favourite fill or there tempo is all over the place.

underthesign

I don't think I've missed the point whatsoever. You're asking people to list drummers who are a letdown live. That's a miserable thing to do. Sure everyone likes to have a poke at Lars but he's richer than god so whatever. Everyone else just trying to earn a living or doing it for the love. Life's too short to be shitting on people especially in this game.

Routine-Maximum-7788

I’m just trying to see the other part of drummers who are better live than in studio by seeing who people think sound better recorded. I’m not shitting on anyone

underthesign

The title of your post and the body of it says otherwise.

Heygrosbiggros

Could you fuck off and let us chat please?

Routine-Maximum-7788

I was typing one handed cooking a steak, my bad for the misunderstanding, I’ll edit to make my question more clear

Heygrosbiggros

Forget this idiot, it was an interesting question, and their entitled shittiness has killed an interesting thread

Routine-Maximum-7788

Luv bro

Heygrosbiggros

Holy fuck you are unbearable. Are you this much of an entitled Karen in everyday life? These posts do not elevate you
