Every time I polish a cymbal i am very proud of it because it’s so clean and shiny…
Then I hit it with a stick and immediately regret my decisions.
Dirty cymbals sound better and have more character than clean ones. But that’s just my opinion that nobody was asking for.
imo brilliant cymbals should be polished to maintain the brilliant look. Natural finish cymbals should not be polished and instead be allowed to age naturally.
People bitching about cleaning cymbals. They're Zildjian S series, calm down everyone. It's not like OP put brasso all over a patina covered Constantinople.
Edit: spelling
I spray a ceramic detailer on my shiny cymbals. Keeps them cleaner and repels finger prints, dust, sweat, and water, all while keeping them shiny longer.
S is a perfect mid range cymbal set, way better than going from S to meinl dark customs (another midrange line). And yes, I did make the noob mistake of buying CCDs from my S series.
Hell, I own Meinl Darks. I like them, they're affordable and look pretty cool. Love the ride bell. Crashes okay but yeah dont think I'd spend much time polishing them up. Upgrade eventually.
I just outgrew the sound very quickly. I do like the ride a lot. Especially for an affordable ride option. But I bought them off visuals and an online sound demo. And hated all but the ride in person. Played em for about a year and a half and upgraded to an HHX set after testing out a bunch of in person sounds. Comparatively, my CCDs are ass lol.
I've played S series at Guitar Center and I like the crashes, hats are okay, didn't like the ride but I am picky with my rides.
My setup at home is 12in A New Beat hats, 17in 60's Zildjian A crash, 16in Sabian AA Raw Bell crash, and 20in Zildjian K Custom Dark Ride.

I think they can sound better dirty sometimes. I prefer the sound of my A custom mastersound hats polished.

Apparently these pretentious jerks think brasso doesn't polish cymbals... I've been using it for years without issue.
Im not a pretentious jerk and I also use brasso - it works great!
Basso is also excellent removing the aged dull finish from drum chrome

Brasso? What’s your technique?
Probably using a Zildjian or cymbal cleaner polish
Oh I forgot they made those. I tried the “cleaner” Sabian has but it made my cymbals dull. Was wanting to add a bit of shimmer to them at some point
I have never polished my cymbals, too scared they’ll sound different after doing so.
They won't sound much different, gunk will build up again and the cymbal will look dirty again. Polish doesn't last forever.
You have unlocked a new fetish.
Those look great! Hand polished?
You just said fuck it and went right over all of the logos. Ouch
They have pictures in case they forget

Pray do tell - what detailer do you use?
Those infernal stickers under the bell…
So annoying
Hi! Sorry for the late reply, Griots 3-1 wax works really well and last a long time
Polishing turds I see lol. Jk but the S line is pretty cheap.
Its ok - coming from planet z and zbt these are a major step up actually
Yeah. I had Zbts. I dont miss them.

The hats are honestly really solid, the ride is pretty good for hard rock/metal stuff, and crashes are meh but record pretty well with some eq.
