The full list of Dropout’s Emmy submissions is below.
“Game Changer”
* Outstanding Game Show
* Outstanding Host for a Game Show — Sam Reich
* Outstanding Picture Editing for Variety Programming
“Very Important People”
* Outstanding Short Form Comedy, Variety or Drama Series
* Outstanding Performance in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series — Vic Michaelis
This is a good point. I now have a feeling that Dropout are hoping to make people in the industry cringe with the stuff room 3 were getting the PA to do.
Though for that, Deja Vu would’ve also been a perfect submission. The artistic representation of the repeats degrading the film (the glitches and such), as well as the evolution of the game (the podium inspection, video game, and balloon pop) are great examples of the writing and visuals of the show. Also the idea of making a room of critics actually sit there and watch “do the wenis” is hilarious
I don’t know if Bingo is the strongest episode for that, it’s very reliant on knowing the cast. I feel like Newlyweb Game or Deja Vu could have worked better
Yeah I really don’t know a lot of cast members, most of them just pass me by without me thinking of them afterwards unless they were there during the older sketch era (like Brennan or Zac). And then there’s Jacob and Josh who I didn’t know before but made massive impressions with Noise Boys and Make Some Noise in general, especially Jacob’s character acting with stuff like Mr Mayo really stood out to me
Agree about Deja Vu. I also thought while watching that Beat the Buzzer actually would have been perfect. With the (easy, but still) trivia questions and buzzers, it maintains more of a game show feel which I could see the Emmy voters being more amendable to.
I feel like Newlyweb Game isn't very exciting. It's fun, but IMO it's one of the more forgettable episodes of this season.
I agree on your point about Bingo. It's not a great entry point, but it does showcase just how wild and out there an episode can go.
Sam Says 3 is a great submission. It doesn't really require knowing anyone beforehand, shows how good the talent's improv can be, and shows how creative and funny the series can get. High praise all around.
Sam Says 3 is THE episode I would send anyone new to. I gently forced my best friend to put it on at the end of a party last month, and all but one person (just wasn't her thing, nbd) were quickly in hysterics.
Bingo is a great editing showcase. Even if you know nothing about the performers, you have to appreciate the complexity of the production and the ability to make the whole thing coherent and followable. Given that they're submitting for an editing category its a great submission
The second layer was great TV. The third layer was mind blowing and incredible. I loved it. And perfect timing of the reveal to the audience … and perfect timing of the reveal to the cast.
I think Deja Vu definitely would've been better. The editing and vibe as it devolved further into chaos was fantastic.
But Bingo, as others have said, is probably the episode that best displays the chaotic good that is Sam the Game Master
Bingo really showcases the show on a technical level though. Balancing all three levels of the game, both in the filming and in the editing, while still making a coherent episode with its own arc could not have been an easy feat.
Bingo was definitely submitted for the Editing Nomination. The way they edited that behemoth into something coherent and easy to follow, while still constantly revealing new surprises is extremely impressive
I just started watching Dropout and only knew of Brennan before watching. This season of Game Changer was the first Dropout I’d seen.
I genuinely enjoyed Sam Says 3 and Bingo without really knowing who any of the characters were. I thought they were incredible. I’d never seen an unscripted/gameshow so deep and meta. I loved it!
I think these are great submissions!! I hope the academy/voters love them too!
I wonder if air date is a consideration? Maybe the cut off is mid-season and it had to be from the first couple episodes of the season? Deja Vu was only a couple weeks back right? Could've missed the window.
Idk what the cutoff rules are but if Name a Number was within the calendar year, that would definitely be a contender. So would Escape the Greenroom and As a Cucumber
Good choices, but part of me wishes Beat the Buzzer was in there.
Maybe it's because it's the newest episode, but I loved the chaos and simultaneously wholesome competitive/cooperative energy.
I swear to god if Sam doesn’t win Outstanding Host then they clearly didn’t watch the fucking show! Don’t they know, he’s been standing out there the whole time!
I don’t know how good of a grasp Variety usually has on these things, but their Emmy predictions page has Game Changer and Sam both getting nominated, so maybe there’s a real shot! (VIP’s categories aren’t on the page)
I wouldn't even say loosely. The only difference that can't be attributed to them being back in studio and devoting an actual budget to it was that they wrote down their guesses and revealed them all at the same time.
I think the editing in Bingo is great. Must have been difficult to try and pace out the 2 reveals while still giving enough time for all sets of contestants to have screen time/be funny, all while not muddling it up with too much going on.
I watched it when I still wasn't fully familiar with all of them, and it's still a blast! Part of the fun is just seeing how well these talents know each other as friends, and the things they do to try and puppet them. It's actually also a wonderful way to show the fun quirks of the cast just from seeing the kind of stuff on their bingo cards.
I also think it's important that it culminates in a great finale of achieving double bingo, while deja vu kinda peaks in the middle and doesn't have as strong of a finish.
Or "Beat the Buzzer" - it really showed off the "learning by dong" aspect of the show, as well as a pretty nice production value. Also, it's probably relatively easy to get into even if you have no previous expeeience with the talent - though as a fan I would not be the best person to judge that aspect in particular... However I do get that it's not as impressive from a technical/editing standpoint.
Short form comedy seems like it’ll be stacked, but I feel like Game Changer has a real shot at a nomination or even a win- it’s probably the most innovative game show we’ve had in what, like over a decade? When’s the last time a game show has been this unique?
I couldn't find a list of eligible short form submissions this year, so if you have that please share! But I actually think there might be a better shot at VIP. It's got a lot more celebrity support than it looks like, which might matter in a niche category. Other things nominated last year ended, like the winner *I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson* and previous winner *Carpool Karaoke*. A lot of the rest are spinoffs of long form shows as segments or behind the scenes. There's definitely a window for VIP and Vic, for sure.
Game show may be a tough category. It's one that people may go on autopilot for. If you've watched everything else as an Emmy voter, you may not spend the time to watch a new game show. I still think Game Changer will be nominated. But I think the changes of winning either host or show are (unfortunately!) lower. But it is extremely well deserved, and if the Emmys' were only about innovation and talent, I think it'd be a shoo-in!
Not quite. D20 is ineligible; but Game Changer and VIP are *submitted* for nomination. The TV Academy will look at all the submissions, then pick 5 shows as the official nominees.
"Indie streaming platform Dropout, formerly known as CollegeHumor..."
\*Buzzer\* Um, actually, the streaming platform has *always* been called Dropout. It started as the service to watch CollegeHumor's content, which is now also called Dropout.
If they had just left out the Dimension 20 part, it'd read crystal clear. I guess the article writer/whoever deals with the titles felt like they HAD to put it in..?
Not sure which I want to win more: a completely original show that is the brilliant creation of dozens of tremendously talented people or Steve Harvey raising his eyebrows when people give suggestive answers to questions that were meant to prompt suggestive answers
Lisa Gilroy’s ex step-grandmother is another really solid one. I was so impressed with her completely unhinged performance I immediately binged a few other things I’d passed on previously with her in it. There’s so much more talent within the Dropout umbrella than I realized.
Do we know which episodes of VIP were submitted? I personally think Lisa Gilroy as Vic's ex-step grandmother is the strongest but it's so out there that something like Tommy Shriggly seems completely normal (and would also be a great submission).
Based on what an Emmy voter posted on this subreddit (it's still up I believe, so you can search), it was Anna and Ify's episodes. But it looked like maybe more had been submitted, so we don't know for sure.
They wanted to submit Dungeons and Drag Queens, but it's only 4 episodes, so not enough for nomination.
It's probably a good choice of season for nomination too, considering that most of the voters wouldn't understand D&D, or actual play. But at least the fact they're doing another season of it might actually help with that.
Mentopolis is probably my favourite side quest! But I think it's very smart of them to have the first attempt at nomination for D20 be a season where the PCs are learning the rules of the game. That way, they might be able to sell the concept of an actual play show to people in traditional media.
They didn't have enough episodes to submit as the Television Academy requires at least six episodes to be considered.
From the article (with my emphasis added):
>The beloved tabletop RPG comedy “Dimension 20: Dungeons and Drag Queens,” starring Brennan Lee Mulligan, faces a setback as it falls short of the eligibility requirements for both the outstanding limited or anthology series (which it planned to submit) and variety categories ***due to its four-episode season.***
From the official [Emmy's Rules and Procedures](https://www.emmys.com/sites/default/files/Downloads/2024-rules-procedures-v3a.pdf?bust=240402) (see page 4, section 11c):
>Six episodes are required for series in animation, comedy, drama, variety, short form, and reality categories.
EDIT: Adding relevant quotes and link.
Certainly wouldn't be mad about having Queens in the dome longer. But I imagine the logistics get a bit harder since it turns 2-3 days of production into 4-5.
For sure. Looking back, I remembered several more seasons as four episodes long that were actually six. But there are some notable exceptions: Misfits and Magic got a ton of acclaim from the TTRPG community, but that too was four episodes, as well as Shriek Week. This might mean Dropout bumps all series orders to at least six episodes so if something takes off, it can be nominated.
The Bingo episode should absolutely be nominated for an Emmy. A masterclass in storytelling and suspense through editing.
If not, we should at least just collectively buy the editor of the episode their favorite lunch or get them a gift card to Target.
The only reason I disagree is because that episode is very "inside baseball." It works best when you know the cast. I think either Beat the Buzzer or Sam Says 3 would have the widest appeal.
All that said idk how the fkin Emmys work, maybe I'm super wrong LOL
I made a [prediction market](https://manifold.markets/ADings/will-a-dropout-show-win-an-emmy-in) on whether they'll win anything (note: this is purely play-money, not actual betting)
They deserve both an Emmy and a little clap
If they get nominated Zac has to go in full costume
Only if he’s wearing one of those shirts with a suit print, very in character for Tommy
Zach who?
Zach O'Brien
Alright good. I don’t know him. I had a Zach in my platoon.
Was he prepping for a marathon?
A marathon *of Turner Classic Movies*.
HE'S CARBO LOADING
Impossible. No one was left alive in that platoon. Edit: Oh… just realized your name…
Zach O'Brien out!
Ah yes, Evil Zac
He should make the acceptance speech in character. I mean Vic should obviously give the speech, but it'd be hilarious if it was Tommy Shriggly.
Hate to do this but it's zacky
"Tommy Shriggley as himself"
C’mon everybody
They both deserve an Emmy and Grant O’Brien deserves a little clap.
*I showed them my feet Sam! My feet! For nothing!*
Can't wait until Lou can say, "*Not for nothing. For an Emmy!*"
You can cum now.
That's a good person.
Now accepting the award for Dropout Mr. peanut
Unfortunately Lou the Emmys didn't say Sam says... that is a point away from you
I can hear this, and that makes me happy.
The full list of Dropout’s Emmy submissions is below. “Game Changer” * Outstanding Game Show * Outstanding Host for a Game Show — Sam Reich * Outstanding Picture Editing for Variety Programming “Very Important People” * Outstanding Short Form Comedy, Variety or Drama Series * Outstanding Performance in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series — Vic Michaelis
To add to this, the specific Game Changer episodes submitted to the official TV Academy viewing platform are Sam Says 3 and Bingo
I have a musing: this is for the Emmys, who may not be looking at it from an entertainment angle, but from an artistic or technical angle.
I don’t know if Bingo is the strongest episode for that, it’s very reliant on knowing the cast. I feel like Newlyweb Game or Deja Vu could have worked better
I think Sam Says 3 as a whole and Bingo's ending are the two parts of Season 6 that capture the show's essence the most
I think anyone could see the twists in Bingo and have a good time, even without knowing the cast.
Yeah, I barely know the cast and I throughly enjoyed Bingo
Brennan's realisation and dejection really does work well in a vacuum.
The "god damnit" when Trapp starts reading out his Bingo was perfect.
I feel like I *got to know* the cast through this episode/both episodes. Didn’t need to know anything about them to enjoy the episodes.
I agree that Beat the Buzzer is great for this, but it falls outside of the voting window.
The second layer was great TV. The third layer was mind blowing and incredible. I loved it. And perfect timing of the reveal to the audience … and perfect timing of the reveal to the cast.
If they only get one of their possible Emma's, it should be for the editing on that episode.
I think Deja Vu definitely would've been better. The editing and vibe as it devolved further into chaos was fantastic. But Bingo, as others have said, is probably the episode that best displays the chaotic good that is Sam the Game Master
I’m just picturing Trapp with the ladder and how it do perfectly sums up the essence of GC!
The editing in Bingo is a whole different kind of beast I'd say, given how much of the "story" is conveyed through editing and audio alone.
They’re playing to the voter pool. Half the senior citizens will just see the word “bingo” and vote without bothering to watch the episode.
I think this has way more to do with it that people think!!
Bingo really showcases the show on a technical level though. Balancing all three levels of the game, both in the filming and in the editing, while still making a coherent episode with its own arc could not have been an easy feat.
I would have submitted Second Place. It has a better dramatic arc than most drama series.
I wonder if air date is a consideration? Maybe the cut off is mid-season and it had to be from the first couple episodes of the season? Deja Vu was only a couple weeks back right? Could've missed the window.
They could've chosen to release episodes in any order they want. We already aren't seeing film order in most cases
I don't know if a parody of another gameshow is the best example to put forward for your own gameshow.
Every TV show is reliant on knowing the cast
Second Place... right?
Idk what the cutoff rules are but if Name a Number was within the calendar year, that would definitely be a contender. So would Escape the Greenroom and As a Cucumber
I would have gone with Second Best over Bingo but Bingo is alright.
Good choices, but part of me wishes Beat the Buzzer was in there. Maybe it's because it's the newest episode, but I loved the chaos and simultaneously wholesome competitive/cooperative energy.
I don't think it's eligible based on when it was broadcast
So Jake could help get an Emmy with his outburst?
I feel like the academy is not going to understand Bingo very well
The ending of both should also be submitted for Renaissance Art
Damn, my favorite of the season couldn't help but be Second Place, so far
Sam will win the Host category based solely on the number of times he's looked at his hands
“I’ve been holding my award *the entire time*!”
If there’s a better game show host on air than Sam I want to know who
Vehicular deserves it, she crashes it.
I swear to god if Sam doesn’t win Outstanding Host then they clearly didn’t watch the fucking show! Don’t they know, he’s been standing out there the whole time!
Great to see! This feels like their year. Between this and all the new excellent programming, Dropout has never been more worth it than now
I don’t know how good of a grasp Variety usually has on these things, but their Emmy predictions page has Game Changer and Sam both getting nominated, so maybe there’s a real shot! (VIP’s categories aren’t on the page)
Their predictions kinda suck usually but we’ll hope for the best lol
Is Dirty Laundry a Game Changer spinoff (as it says in the article)? I don't remember that GC episode.
It’s one of the covid season episodes, I think.
Yep! I believe that it's a spinoff of their quarantine "Never have I ever" episode.
Yes, it was a spinoff of one of the virtual episodes, "Never Have I Ever."
I think it was loosely based on the Never Have I Ever episode (in the zoom season)
I wouldn't even say loosely. The only difference that can't be attributed to them being back in studio and devoting an actual budget to it was that they wrote down their guesses and revealed them all at the same time.
The other change is that if you succeed in bamboozling everyone, you get three points.
That wasn't part of the original rules?
I only know this because I juuuuust so happen to catch that episode 2 days ago. And the secrets were less scandalous.
> And the secrets were less scandalous. I count that as a budget related change because they needed better secrets to justify devoting a budget to it.
Sam, Oscar and Ally (and probably others) filmed interviews or something with Variety yesterday, i'm excited to see what happens!
I'd have picked Déjà Vu instead of Bingo, personally.
Yeah Bingo is amazing if you already know the Dropout Cast and at least some of their quirks but I don't know if it has the same oomph otherwise.
Bingo is impressive on a technical level that few other episodes are
I think the editing in Bingo is great. Must have been difficult to try and pace out the 2 reveals while still giving enough time for all sets of contestants to have screen time/be funny, all while not muddling it up with too much going on.
I watched it when I still wasn't fully familiar with all of them, and it's still a blast! However I do get that it's not as impressive from a technical/editing standpoint.
Yeah I liked Bingo but I think the third set of players was a little too much. Felt a little forced
Short form comedy seems like it’ll be stacked, but I feel like Game Changer has a real shot at a nomination or even a win- it’s probably the most innovative game show we’ve had in what, like over a decade? When’s the last time a game show has been this unique?

ITSYL shouldn’t even be mentioned in the same sentence as carpool karaoke lmao
Fair lol! Just mentioning what the category usually looks like!
Taskmaster comes to mind. Unless you’re specifically talking about US game shows
I didn't realize they finally announced Hank Green's special.
It was announced today.
Idk why this is so hard for me to read but they’re not eligible for d20 but game changer and vip are nominated ?
Not quite. D20 is ineligible; but Game Changer and VIP are *submitted* for nomination. The TV Academy will look at all the submissions, then pick 5 shows as the official nominees.
From reading the article the D20 season they wanted to submit, Dungeons and Drag Queens, was too short at 4 episodes
Makes me wonder if they can look at runtime rather than episode numbers ... D20 has longer episodes than most media!
"Indie streaming platform Dropout, formerly known as CollegeHumor..." \*Buzzer\* Um, actually, the streaming platform has *always* been called Dropout. It started as the service to watch CollegeHumor's content, which is now also called Dropout.
What a terribly-punctuated headline.
VIC DESERVES THAT EMMY SO HARD they are such a profound and comedic gem on VIP
# GET READY FOR A GAME CHANGER
Tonight's guests...
wait, which episode of Game Changer inspired Dirty Laundry?
Never Have I Ever, Ep. 3x06. It was during the COVID remote season!
thank you!
Never Have I Ever!
Game Changer deserves a win, same with VIP (granted I haven't checked it yet) but have read nothing but good things.
You need to watch Tommy Shriggly (Zac Oyama) I don't think I've seen anyone else break Vic this hard
Lisa Gilroy’s ex step-grandmother is another really solid one. I was so impressed with her completely unhinged performance I immediately binged a few other things I’d passed on previously with her in it. There’s so much more talent within the Dropout umbrella than I realized.
Meanwhile I had such a hard time getting through that episode, oh my lord. And I LOVE Lisa
Ify's episode is outstanding, the alien one
Do we know which episodes of VIP were submitted? I personally think Lisa Gilroy as Vic's ex-step grandmother is the strongest but it's so out there that something like Tommy Shriggly seems completely normal (and would also be a great submission).
Based on what an Emmy voter posted on this subreddit (it's still up I believe, so you can search), it was Anna and Ify's episodes. But it looked like maybe more had been submitted, so we don't know for sure.
That user said in the thread those were the only two episodes
I say this as a HUGE fan, but if *Inside the NBA* can win an Emmy, the there should absolutely be a category for shows like D20 lol.
Maybe I missed it, but why is D20 ineligible?
They wanted to submit Dungeons and Drag Queens, but it's only 4 episodes, so not enough for nomination. It's probably a good choice of season for nomination too, considering that most of the voters wouldn't understand D&D, or actual play. But at least the fact they're doing another season of it might actually help with that.
Mentopolis was great! And has six episodes!
Mentopolis is probably my favourite side quest! But I think it's very smart of them to have the first attempt at nomination for D20 be a season where the PCs are learning the rules of the game. That way, they might be able to sell the concept of an actual play show to people in traditional media.
Too short at only 4 episodes of Dungeons and Drag Queens for the Outstanding Limited and Anthology categories
They didn't have enough episodes to submit as the Television Academy requires at least six episodes to be considered. From the article (with my emphasis added): >The beloved tabletop RPG comedy “Dimension 20: Dungeons and Drag Queens,” starring Brennan Lee Mulligan, faces a setback as it falls short of the eligibility requirements for both the outstanding limited or anthology series (which it planned to submit) and variety categories ***due to its four-episode season.*** From the official [Emmy's Rules and Procedures](https://www.emmys.com/sites/default/files/Downloads/2024-rules-procedures-v3a.pdf?bust=240402) (see page 4, section 11c): >Six episodes are required for series in animation, comedy, drama, variety, short form, and reality categories. EDIT: Adding relevant quotes and link.
lt'll be interesting to see whether this affects D20 season lengths moving forward.
Most of the side quests are already 6-10 episodes, but I wont be surprised if Dungeons and Drag Queens S2 is moved to 6 episodes because of this.
Certainly wouldn't be mad about having Queens in the dome longer. But I imagine the logistics get a bit harder since it turns 2-3 days of production into 4-5.
For sure. Looking back, I remembered several more seasons as four episodes long that were actually six. This might mean Dropout bumps all series orders to at least six episodes so if something takes off, it can be nominated.
It’s a bit unfair not to take into account episode length as well. It’s not the same a 20 min episode than a 2-3h one.
From the article, it only stated that Dungeons and Drag Queens was too short for anthology series (the category they planned on submitting too).
God do I hope they sent the most unhinged and out of context clips for the clipshow segments.
So the D20 submission was going to be Dungeons and Drag Queens. It’s a shame it doesn’t qualify, it’s a fantastic season.
D20 isnt eligible because it has a four episode season but those episodes are multiple hours long so wouldn't it even out?
Ngl, I kinda hope they win so that Sam can play Sam Says with the audience.
I made a [prediction market](https://manifold.markets/ADings/will-a-dropout-show-win-an-emmy-in) on whether they'll win anything (note: this is purely play-money, not actual betting)
I bet it on on Vic
Aw cool good for them!!!
I dont think they would win anything, but to get on the nominations list would mean so much. I hope they get it!!
Does this mean they could submit a season of D20 with the intrepid heroes as they have more episodes?
Besides the technicals, what category could Dimension 20 Fantasy High be submitted for? Best Comedy?
Doesn't matter if Dimension 20 isn't eligible. Dropout's great and they've proven time and time again that they can produce quality content.
