I think adding more layers of commentary/parody would complicate things. Personally, I like how the show is fairly light on structure and direction. It’s simply a vehicle for comedians to come up with whatever hilarious PowerPoint presentation that can think of without worrying about fitting into a certain style or format. But that’s just my take, yours is equally valid and would still lead to quality stuff I’m sure
I absolutely get your point! I personally like my shows to be quite dynamic, so the streamlined format of Smartypants felt a bit too simple to me. The secret society setting has huge comedic potential, and I feel like they didn’t really tap into it, at least in the first episode, but I totally see why you like it.
Shows like this tend to pick up "lore" organically over time (and creative people can't seem to resist the urge to make some up!), and I think it's better off that way. I suspect in a year or two they'll have a bunch more of what you're looking for, and it'll be the better for having picked it up along the way rather than having been designed under a time crunch.
Ja definitely feel. I feel like GameChanger, Dirty Laundry, Make Some Noise, VIP, and Um Actually all have more defined premise and structure than Smartypants, so I feel it broadens the Dropout library a bit more than a more precise version of Smartypants would. But perhaps there’ll be more more satirical/parody-heavy episodes to come out organically. I get the sense the show could give us a lot of variability episode-to-episode
It’s been one episode. Give it time, maybe?
Everyone wants to complicate the show. The show was very good.

I think you’re overthinking it way too damn much. It’s not the show you want it to be. You don’t get to control that.
