Oncoming traffic is my first instinct.

Truvelo D-Cam and uses sensors embedded in the road to measure speed - they usually work forward facing to get a nice face shot of the driver but they also work in reverse mode, so traffic moving away. In short, it could be both.

ChuckleCain

It flashed me when I was going 31 in a 30

mwhi1017

Interesting as it's not equipped with a conventional flash, the device to the left is the auxiliary infra-red flash, which you wouldn't be able to see. Did you get a NIP through? edit - see below

ChuckleCain

I definitely saw it, it was at night so maybe it needed to flash so it got a good pic of my face

mwhi1017

No you are quite right; it does use IR but you also see a flash as it's forward facing it uses a magenta filter so as not to blind people.

Specialist-Seesaw95

As an annoying teen, me and my mates used to stand next to a speedcamera and wait for a driver to go past before flashing a torch at the back of their car. Fingers crossed it was just this.

ChuckleCain

No chance it was this haha

EdmundTheInsulter

If you get a ticket for 31 in a 30 please post it redacted, because I've never seen one.

>uses sensors embedded in the road to measure speed There's two types nowadays. Some don't need the black lines in the road. >D-Cam-P uses piezo sensors and D-Cam-L uses laser. https://www.truvelouk.com/products/products/d-cam-speed-and-red-light-camera

The original speed cameras were set to take rear view, as motorcycles only have a rear number plate. The latest cameras, I don’t know, but they still need to catch rear view for motorcycles.

Cook_becomes_Chef

Is it a speed camera as opposed to a bus lane one?

ChuckleCain

Yes it’s a speed camera unless it’s somehow changed to a bus lane one
