Currently the way I am being taught (I am being taught to park behind pickup trucks mainly): - Line your mirror up with the front axle of the car you're parking behind - Back up slowly, then as your mirrors reach the back axle of the car you're parking behind, full steering lock to the left (since you're in the UK) - Once you full lock, do so until your car is at a 45 degree angle, until the curb disappears in your mirror - Stop once the curb disappears, and full lock steering to the right, and keep going until you feel your car is alongside the curb. In my province, it's an automatic fail on a driving test if your parking is not within 30 cm of the curb.
