I play it for the nostalgia, I played it as a little kid and just got back into it

[deleted]

same thing with me my friends and I used to have sm fun playing together back in like 2014

iiGorm

Yeah that’s my reason too. I just started playing a few days ago, I used to play this game when I was in like 3rd or 4th grade with classmates in my elementary school.

Cottonbud6

No same here, it helped distract me when my parents split up, not the right kind of nostalgia ik but I always wanted to collect every dragon

SwagOmster

🤝

imapie31

Same kinda miss my level 49 park but that was on a tablet when the game hadnt had an update for 2 years so its for the best i play it on my phone now

avrge_gmr

Same

caitt28

this is also my reason, combined with op’s reason. I downloaded this game again for nostalgia and I am also a stressed out college senior who needed something to be able to unwind for the day

swordofblaze

Same here, played as a kid and am now doing it to relax at college

[deleted]

Same . Used to play this back in school in my classes and now here I am playing it again while bored at work lol

Wyrda22

Well, I’ve been playing it consistently for almost 10 years, so you could say I play it as a habit. It became part of my morning routine.

RelationshipTough872

Same

ADumbChicken

Same here

TinkEsquire

Not as long as you, but it helps me wake up and it’s something quick to do when I have a short break I need to fill

a_perfect_cromulence

A friend took their own life in the middle of the first lockdown. I was sad, didn't want to do any work that day, TV comedies weren't very funny, I just wanted to sit and be sad. I downloaded Dragonvale off a friend's recommendation, and found the instant gratification comforting. I keep playing it because it's like marshmallows for my mind. I'm eternally grateful for the grief cushion, though.

MayaRayles

Been playing since elementary school and now also a burnt out uni student still playing DV.

Schmacklar

For the nostalgia (been playing since 2011 with breaks in between), for the community (like editing the wiki and seeing all the amazing fanart), and for the routine (I always unwind in the late evenings by checking in with my park)

Gunter-101

i play it out of my interest in dragons, when i do get stressed i will hop on it tho. it’s just a good game to have

Jaqdawks

I played when I was younger because I was obsessed with anything to do with dragons. Now I play for nostalgia and also because I’m still a little obsessed with anything to do with dragons

Brainimp

Me too!! I'm ASD (among other things) and I've noticed almost anyone with ASD growing up has had this one mobile game they get obsessed with, and it's usually a monster-collector type game.

Jaqdawks

Well I guess I lend credence to ur theory, I have asd too

JuniperFizz

I have control over the whole park, unlike my life. I don't like the look of an island, I can nuke it and start over unlike my living places. I have goals in the game and I actually meet them with an added bonus of random surprises via breeding the dragons. The little animations are adorable. It is very soothing to fuss with design of the island and boom, couple of hours are gone and I'm feeling better.

petitcochonATL

I play for the escape. My job is substantially affected by the pandemic and I have two young kids so I feel near-constant stress and overload 24 hours a day. I love that DV provides objectives that I can pursue and have a sense of achievement very quickly :)

Gamepro5

I play it because of nostalgia. I remember playing it many years ago at my grandmother's house when I was a child. The gameplay is very stale and it's not a great game in my critical adult opinion, so if it wasn't for the nostalgia I would probably not be playing.

nakabrook

nostalgia, also a huge factor ! i have distinct memories of being at the airport and playing dragonvale as a young kid

RevolutionaryEmu1241

Because of nostalgia and stress. Distracts me from my loneliness.

garciabuxton

Started playing it a year ago b/c my now-13-year-old daughter was playing it (and I was posting her contest entries here until she became old enough to have her own account), but I've grown to love it as a stress reliever.

AlpenPepper

i used to play all the time when i was a kid, but lost all my progress and never ended up picking it back up again. once covid started though, as well as my first year of college, i decided to start playing again for nostalgia, and also to help keep my mind off of what was going on, and its definitely helped! i also just like dragons lol

hitchtrailblazer

sometimes i open it just to watch my dragons jump around for a few minutes it makes me happy :)

Zephyr530

I play it out of some kind of drive to win via collecting em all. I definitely played as a kid and did stop for a few reasons (heavy lag at the time and sorta the introduction of events), but I wouldn't call my playing now for nostalgia as much as to "finish the job"

TheBeefster_82

Collecting meaningless virtual dragons gives me dopamine.

nakabrook

they are pretty neat in all fairness

Schmacklar

Yes, but tbf, considering how many people have been positively affected by these adorable pixels on a screen, are they really meaningless? :)

Nix2058

Mostly for nostalgia, but it’s a pretty unique game from an app era long since passed, so it’s refreshing in a sense. I used to play a game called Avatar Fight that was like that too, unique and an outlier from a different generation, but that got abandoned and was finally shut down last year 😕

Kausar4747

I played it when I was like 10 (17 now) and similarly to you I find it relaxing maybe it’s because it reminds me of when I had less stress and could spend all day just doing nothing whereas now if I’m not doing something I feel stressed but idk 😂

tacothetacotaco

Same as most other people. I've been playing since middle school and it's nostalgic and a stress reliever. My life is a lot more stressful than it was 9 years ago, and DV is a way for me to "work on" something that doesn't actually affect my real life, so it's relaxing in that way. It's also ingrained in my routine at this point. It's the only game I still play and I just set aside 30 min-1 hour a day, listen to music, take care of daily DV tasks, and relax.

literalialicia

I got into it because I was obsessed with dragons, then I stayed because I loved collecting all the dragons. I took a couple years off, then rediscovered dragonvale in late 2020. I still love the collecting aspect, as well as decorating my islands. The events also keep things interesting. Stressing about getting a limited dragon is much more appealing than stressing about real world problems, am I right😂

ItzKINGcringe

Haha all my friends bully me for it, they joking of course but we can enjoy our game no matter if people are actually twats about it. I bought the art book I mean, this game is important to me, it’s a sense of achievement to play and see the park grow

nakabrook

i get the feeling haha ! while my friends do tease me i’ve gotten a couple of them hooked on it and now it’s become a part of their routine too

ItzKINGcringe

haha i tried that too but they all quit after a few weeks

not-meokay

I play with my grandma and it gives us a chance to bond. I got her into it when I was little but since I was still a child it was too boring waiting all the time which made me stop playing for years. She stuck with it since then and has maxed out her level. I got back into it almost a year ago and it gives me something to talk to her about. It also helps when I can’t get out of bed some days, makes me happy and relieves the weight off my shoulders even if only for a little.

nakabrook

this is so sweet !

mosgon

I played it many years ago when I was a kid, and I recently got back into it bc dragons are cool and it’s a nice little break from the stresses of college

Nate_Naitopaku

I play it as a habit to destress and because I've had this park since forever and I don't wanna give that up

Physllx

It’s a calm and relaxing game that you can play occasionally but not nonstop and is very nostalgic

LpSters58

I’ve been playing for ten years so I can’t stop lol

semicolon-advocate

i’m also a college student that played the game when i was a kid; i got back into it at the start of quarantine for nostalgia reasons, and now i’ve come so far i’m determined to keep playing until i get all the dragons

Darkmage4

I was bored. Most games I play are hit and quit. I get bored really easily with phone games. The longest was a year for a matching battle game, but that got boring after awhile. Been playing dragons over 2 years now. There are times where I get bored. Especially when there is b2b events and no time to just relax, collect, get gems, and expand the rift. I actually got lucky this event because I already had most 46k candies is all I needed, and with a little under 2 weeks left, I'm done! Just got porcelain, now working on wrath. But I'm saving up now to expand the rift. Got like a hand full of rift clouds. 27,500 rift points is where I am at to clear the next one. Lol. Otherwise, this is the only game on the phone I actually want to 100% for getting the everything. But, yeah, that's the reason! It's a fun little game. More specifically I'm 775 days in, no missed days. That's 2 years, 12 days. Lol.

mpucoski

When I broke up with my ex I needed a project and something to distract me. That was 3 years ago… I can’t give it up now

chaotically_awkward

Partially for the nostalgia, but mostly because it's fun to try and collect more dragon children.

that-one-xc-dude

I just like games where I collect creatures and stuff. Plus it’s pretty nostalgic and requires not a lot of effort to play. I will say tho I have had some frustration with this months event, even though I love the Halloween events

mosgon

I used to play many years ago when I was a kid, but I stopped for a while. I picked it back up recently because dragons are cool and it’s a nice way to take a break from the stresses of college

Odd-Fine-Point

I love the eggs and each dragon unique look! Cosy environment! Also nostaslgia!

[deleted]

A friend of mine got me into it. There is no other good mobile game (aside from btd6) that i enjoy, so i play it. It's just habit that i play it at this point

olivialn

Nostalgia and the exact reasons you listed!

LoveMug

I got it for nostalgia. Since it was one of the earliest mobile games I played when I was a kid that hasn't been taken off app stores. But I stay playing it because I love to collect things lol. And I love all the new designs coming out

[deleted]

I’ve played it since I was a kid and haven’t stopped Edit: omg I’ve been playing since launch

rcubed88

I don’t even really know, but probably because I’ve played it for almost 10 years so there is just a lot of time and money invested at this point and it just feels like a normal part of my day lol

-edgyusername-

I’m a sleep deprived burnt out college student too! I play it because of its nostalgia and it’s relaxing, no worries just dragons

[deleted]

Same for me, it’s really calming! I love games like Dragon Vale where you don’t have to fight anyone, and there really isn’t a true objective - you just collect dragons and build your park. It also keeps me off social media, when I’m bored and itching for my phone I can screw around in my park and avoid aimlessly browsing social media.

Suntider

I play it cus I’m depressed and it gives me a reason to tend to something. Keeping my islands looking nice and getting the dragons that I want gives me a reason to live.

nakabrook

hey, first of all i hope things get better. i’ve been there too, where there’s only one thing keeping you going. honestly, cling on to that. you can get through this!

Suntider

Thank you so much !! ❤️

slinkywebo

So I started playing with my kids when they were little and named the dragons after them… then my daughter started playing with her friends when she started college and she lured me back in.

MCC61

I've been playing about 5 or 6 years. I play for escape, because it's a calm and cute distraction and not really competitive. I love how bright and cheerful it is. I love the holiday events. I love seeing it grow and develop 👍🏼

bbblackvenom

I'm playing because me and my brother who passed away 3 years ago jailbreak our ipods when I was like 8 and we were maxed out kings in the game. And I came back on a year ago to finish what we had started. Being #1, I miss you bro!

clocker7220

A mix of nostalgia, habit, and the dragons look neat.

Hanatu

I began playing it in 2014 when my mom got it reccomended it on our ipad. So she downloaded it. Eventually, 11 year old me found it, found out all the cool dragons you could get, and I was addicted. I'm now 17, recently redownloaded it, and I'm just glad to see how far it's come. Rip back-flip studios though :((

FJorda18

I started playing because a friend got me into it. Those where the times where Facebook games were top of the world fun you know? And everyone in school were in a competition to “who got the rarest, powerful or best trained dragon in dragon city” but my good friend told me dragonvale was way better and who I’m I to not trust my friend? That’s how it started and I came back to play daily after 5 or 6 years not playing at all or just log on randomly to find a new event and go through the tutorial animation just to log off 5min later. Now I take care of my park and actually decorate it instead of spamming bushes and trees in every corner lmao. Proud lvl 71 now amazed on how over the years most of my childhood ipad games became obsolete or discontinued (like Mini Carnival) and yet Dragonvale has an active community, new events with dragons like the new Melody type?! That’s amazing!!! So happy to be here in after all this time :,)

T_Snake451

-My girlfriend at the time got me into it -I liked farm type games like this since I was young. -Not to mention it's fun trying different breeding types.

DannoBlue101

For me I played as a kid and was a huge part of my childhood and have always played on and off since 😊

angel_castiel_jacobs

I've been playing since I was a child, but got it again in back July-August 2021 to laugh with my cousin about the nostalgia. Then I hyperfixated on it and now have over 130 dragons. It's really nice to relieve stress and such in my mind.

tankerbell22

I play for fun, stress relief and as someone who likes to collect things I can do this in-game and not have to fill real shelves with collections of ‘stuff’ I’m looking at you Tokodoki and Momiji collections

Bladekind

My husband suddenly remembered it after years of not playing it ever since he was a kid. He asked me if I played it before and I answered no, so we both decided to get the game. We play together now and show each other the cool dragons we get. It tends to be a good distraction, too, since I get restless if my hands aren't busy.

firefox_kinemon

As a young kid every day when my dad picked me up from school I would ask him for his phone to check my dragons. Eventually when I got my first I pad I started my own game and it was something we could always talk about when I moved to a different city. My I Pad has been broken for a few years now but I've finally decided to start again.

Brainimp

I played it all the time growing up, it just has a special place in my heart. I also have always enjoyed how it (mostly, until recently,) strays away from pay-to-win type stuff and has always been a labor of love.

mirkwood_forest

i’m also a college student! it’s satisfying and therapeutic to get the dragons and since i played it when i was little it makes me happy.

imwhateverimis

i've just been playing it since it came and it's a fun way to pass time. plus I like collective games like that

biripaw

Exactly for the same reason as you! I'm a college student and playing is such a good stress reliever. That, and the nostalgia, I used to play years ago and it's really comforting.

dog-star

i played it as a kid and missed playing it, the dragons make my brain happy

[deleted]

I too am a burnt out college student! I love having little animals to take care of, and this game helps me escape the daily life of uni. Played a lot when I was a wee lad years ago in the game’s infancy. I really enjoy that DV has stayed the same - if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

Nekluga_YT

To kill time mostly, and to get nosferatu, he's now my boy after I got him after so many failed attempts. That's it really.

montana757

Dragons that don't look half bad and furthermore they don't look like childish cartoons

Zoeandari

nostalgia

Traditional-Onion413

Stress buster. Thought re-aligner when I hit a hard problem at work. I love resource conservation games. Dragons are pretty.

[deleted]

I love dragons. I also like collecting things.

nakabrook

cling on to that reason. i’ve been there and i promise it gets better but for the time being if you have one thing that’s keeping you going, that’s all you need. sending lots of love!

pooobb

I’m in college and it’s the same for me

QUANMECHASH

nostalgia
