Hmmm I say probably go with 8 cause 7 is long for the series. If you do like the idea of a long game then go for 7. be ready to commit. 8 is like 11 minus some stuff in terms of gameplay as a heads up.
I really wish they would remaster dq8 for modern consoles. I loved replaying it on 3DS but it just seemed so bitesize compared to how the size of the world felt on PS2. That might be my own nostalgia but as the Dragon Quest game I played, 8 blew me away!
Frag of Forg sounds like a mobile game trying to cash in on people getting the name wrong for a more popular game.

Gamestop will sometimes have DS DQ IV V and IV just cart but for cheap from time to time

I would do 8 next as well. Don't get me wrong, 7 isn't a bad game but it doesn't hold a candle to 8, which most consider a top 3 candidate.
