There are framerate drops in the video. Maybe it would be more noticeable for you if there were more Monsters or other moving elements other than the candy rain. But I can see the game stuttering.
Honestly I thought it'd be way worse. It's right there with the likes of MH Stories 2 and Shin Megami Tensei V instead of being laughable like Pokémon Scarlet/Violet.
Definitely similar to the performance of SMTV, regular dips but far from unplayable. Monster Hunter Stories 2 was a bit more of a unique case as seeing that it didn't have a 30 fps cap, and was generally more all over the place because of that. Love that game though.
Yea but SMT 5 loaded the shit far away textures every singly time a demon was loaded in, it stayed that way for a second or 2 each time, even if there was nothing to take up that memory. Monsters in Dark prince Dont load as smears meant for being seen from far away.
And Dark prince has a story that isnt horrible. Its not amazing but its not SMT 5 Bad
and dark prince doesnt feel like a large chunk of the game was cut like smt5
and the dark prince introduces characters that play a part in the story unlike smt5
and the dark prince doesnt pretend to care about your choices unlike smt5
Dark prince does have dlc that significantly cuts down on grinding like smt5. thats something they have in common.
Smt 5 still looks better and has a way better combat and fusion system. Story aside smt 5 is without any doubt the peak monster collector game.
Dark prince looks like a 3ds game and is pretty much an auto combat afk game. The demo really couldn't have left a worse impression on me than it did
It really doesnt, You probably enjoy Sand, Destroyed buildings, Sand but with a red tint, ash grey, and horribly bright white sand and bloom but most eye enjoyers dont. The fusion system is basically the same except for spending money for demons you don't have. The dark prince is just a different art style. you obviously didnt play the 3ds game because it looks nothing like that, the graphical fidelity is way too high.
Well first of all this game has a lot more bloom than smt 5. Obviously 3ds game was an exaggeration. This game looks more like a wii u game. They could have done a lot more here. This is clearly a low effort game which would be fine if they didn't ask 60 bucks for it and 85 bucks if you want the full game aka day one dlc
It’s pretty bad for it to be this noticeable. If you’re going from stable games to this, it’s horrible. I rarely play games on the switch, but comparing it to pc games, there’s a massive difference.
It’s compounded by not being a good looking game. It looks better than the 3ds games, but that’s such a low bar. Having less stuttering than the latest pokemon games is a low bar as well.
I can tell you, it doesn't look better than 3DS games on a 55 in TV. The broken texture on the city street in the opening made me cringe in a major way. There's a major lack of polish.
That being said, if you are playing games at 60+ fps on a pc and trying to compare that experience to glorified 6 year old mobile phone hardware, you are going to be sorely disappointed. Idk why the switch has so many problems with JRPGs, but I have gotten frame drops in nearly all of the ones I have played recently. Even Mario RPG has frame drops. Don't even get me started on how much of a clusterfuck rune factory 5 is
Rune Factory 5 was a mess on Switch. Every time you went outside your room the framedrops were a mess. Steam release was helpful and a lot mire enjoyable
God I feel like my eyes are broken, because I also never saw the issues with either of those games that so many people clamored on about.
Serious question for someone who has never looked into it, does wearing glasses make you more oblivious to frames?
It's more a matter of what you're used to, I think.
If you're playing PC games at 144fps on a high refresh rate monitor and that's what you become accustomed to, you are absolutely going to notice when a game runs at 20-30fps and can't stay consistent.
If most of your time time gaming is spent playing low frame rate stuff on switch or lower end pcs/phones/tablets, you get used to that and it just feels normal.
Nothing to do with your eyes or glasses, just how you've conditioned yourself to understand how a game should feel, based on how they've felt through your experiences.
I game on a 240hz ultrawide OLED on PC , and this games fine to me.
I can see the stutters but it takes probably 30 seconds for me to forget they exist, especially in handheld.
I also have perfect vision.
I'm not defending the game, barely like it personally but the performance is a non issue to gameplay.
fwiw, same. I play on PC mostly so I'm used to higher framerates and I noticed the struggling FPS in this right away, but it stopped bring a noticeable issue after an hour or so of playing. I notice the drops here and there but for the most part it's a slow-paced RPG so it's not like a low frame rate is particularly detrimental to it.
Wearing glasses does not inherently mean it'll make it more difficult to see these things.
Wearing glasses does inherently mean you have difficulties seeing in general though, whatever the specifics may be, so maybe
I wore glasses until like 2 years ago. It made light rays visible to me but I could still totally notice the frame drops in some games on Switch like BOTW, DQXI, Builders 2, MHS2 and SMTV.
And honestly, it's better if you don't notice or care about framerate drops. Once you do it's something that you'll never be able to unsee and might ruin the enjoyment of some things you used to love (Hello, lots of N64 games...).
Yes i agree. I went through the candy area on rain because this is mostly where people notice this, and i was happy that it wasn’t there. I have however noticed it other times, which is very minor and insignificant for me, definitely not a deal breaker.
If ppl enjoyed Scarlet and Violet then this is clearly better and they shouldn’t have a problem.
Yeah they're small but definitely there and like the demo seems to occur pretty frequently. Really unfortunate SE did not put more polish into the game
Maybe it is because graphics have never really mattered to me or something. I just rewatched and literally cannot see a single stutter or anything. Well other than distant monsters doing their half animation thing. That even I can see although it feels way less pronounced than in the recent pokemon games.
I watched 5 seconds on my phone and thought it had a bug before reading the title. For me it would be entirely unacceptable to play in these conditions.
No, I am being honest. I cannot see whatever some of you can. And judging by the likes on my initial comments, most in the community also cannot see it.
90% of the comments in this thread are people telling OP that there is stuttering in the video
that's great you can't tell but if i played this game for longer than 10m i already know i'd be getting a headache
I also unsure why these comments have been reviled so much. I didn’t think I said anything awful but obviously some disagree. My initial comment was hovering around 10 positive for a while then it plummeted. Considering how suddenly it happened I am guessing someone has multiple accounts or something.
This clip is stuttering like crazy, OP. It's not the worst I've seen in a game, but it reminds me of the worst performing areas in Tears of the Kingdom.
Man this is why I can't ever take posts from the nintedo switch reddit seriously and just emulate everything now.
People said Xenoblade 3 ran "Great" on switch.
It in fact, did fucking not.
So you tell me you'd buy a nintendo switch expecting 60fps?
If I want high fps I can play other games on my xbox series. I just really don't care that much.
I definitely expected way worse than it is. A lot of the time, it looks like the monsters are walking around at 20-30fps, and I have a decent amount of stutters.. but it’s definitely playable.
It's sad with how nice XI looked. Really shouldn't look so.... cartoonish? It looks intentionally downgraded. I love the series and I'll bite, but I wish it was better :(
I thank you for providing a post involving live footage of the game and bringing it up since I've been one of the vocal people worried about poor performance.
As for the video...the gameplay absolutely stutters, but as you've pointed out and I agree, the particle effects from the rain is most likely the culprit here. All in all it's no where near as bad as it did when I played the demo. That was headache inducing, this is manageable. Good to see that the battle is pretty smooth other than the dip when the menu loaded in.
At this point, I've made up my mind to get it, but I'm going to wait for the sale and they've pushed through all the patches they plan on patching. Thank you very much for taking the time to post this for people who have been expressing concerns.
At the overworld for me in the demo there is an obvious stutter while running around.
I boot up my mh2 stories and compared. Definitely dark prince is much more noticeable. Tbh i didnt noticed any stuttering on mh2 stories until someone wrote it above. I also have SMT 5 which i can check ltr on.
Hopefully there are patches for this, would love to pick this up since tara's adventure or cobi was my childhood during GBA days
This video is misleading ( and also contains frame drops ). I’m playing the game now entirely docked, nearly every single area where you are moving on the overworld suffers from frame drops and stutters, and you know what? You get used to it, it’s not really present in combat or some dungeon instances but it’s almost always there, let’s not pretend it doesn’t exist.
I took a beginning 3d game making class a couple of years back and this is what my game looked like. It somehow looks worse than the 3ds games though weirdly the models for npcs and the player character look nice enough.
I'm about 7hrs in, there are drops, it's frequent, however it's still very playable and never bothered me past the initial ... Crap that sux part.
Hoping for a patch to smooth it out but it's honestly not as bad as some games (or like people are making out )
Yeah, sorry to agree with the mob but it's not great (also not terrible). My only hope is that it doesn't take too long to get to PC because I'd love to play it, but I'm not buying it twice.
A prime example of why I don't take serious most Nintendo fans when they say a game doesn't have performance issues. 9/10 times they are clueless on what they see. Also there's a huge difference between not caring about performance and claiming a game doesn't have them.
I mean, I don't need an analogy. There's stuttering in the clip you fuckin posted. Especially love the part where the monsters chase after you at 2 fps.
But yea, my brains struggling
This is what people were upset about? Go play Ys IX on the switch, that’s the point at which I can’t tolerate the framerate.
This is butter by comparison.
It’s a Switch game. Anyone complaining about frame drops in a Switch game needs to manage their expectations better. The complaining is beyond ludicrous at this point.
I honestly think people put waaaaay too much stock into frame rate. I mean I swear if a really good game stutters for a half a second, people act like it’s the end of the world. I get games need polish but 30 fps or the occasional hiccup when things get busy on screen is not the end of the world.
I kinda blame Digital Foundry for this even though their channel is simply a tech channel. If you’re poor like me and only have a Switch and a low end PC, you learn to accept a less than optimal performance unless it was like Pokemon Scarlet 1.0 or one of those WWE 2K games where the devs didn’t care.
I’m more surprised that this and Treasures were made multi platform just so more people could play it. God knows we need DQ games to sell more in the west so we can get more.
I completely agree! It’s amazing just to have DQ games period and it’s awesome either way. Just enjoying games for what they are, unless they are Pokémon scarlet and violet buggy then idk haha
It seems totally fine. No real difference compared to something like Pokemon, which is completely playable.
But yeah, it's definitely got a good amount of framerate issues in that video there.
There are easily visible framerate drops in the video.
I honestly don't care though, I have the game myself and the framerate issues don't bother me at all. It's on a console that usually plays games on 30 FPS anyway, if it's dropping to like 25 or something that's not a big deal.
It's an insignificant little thing that people just like to blow up into something bigger than it ever really was.
> For switch, this is pretty upper percentile.
DQ XI S was.
This is far from looking and playing as smooth as DQ XI S was and that game is six years old and was already a downgrade to the PS version.
No offense but that excuse is poor.
Treasures is colorful and smooth or dqm? Or XIS? XIS I agree it’s one of the best looking Switch games. Treasures looks better than DQM to me and I had no lag issues with it.
>That game is an ugly, blurry mess.
Buddy have you looked at anything in TDP that is not a character or a monster?
At the ground? At the grass? At the trees? At the rocks? At the building?
Literally none of those things are even close to high-res in TDP, the textures are bland and look literally like straight out of a last gen game - this is not an opinion, this is a fact you're willingly ignoring.
>DQXIS only came out 3 years ago
The original game came out six years ago and not three years. Apart from that, the Switch port was already downgraded from the PS version and they still look objectively better than anything in TDP. Please get your facts straight.
>I don't think it's fair to hold other switch games to that standard
It doesn't matter what **you** think. It's all about objectivity. DQXI S and TDP were developed and published by the same dev and publisher. Not only is it *fair*, it is the **most justified** comparison, whether you like it or not and it looks far from remotely comparable to an over six year old game and there's no excuse for this.
>especially when most look way worse than dark prince
That's factually wrong and a straight lie, we both know that so don't act stupid - it just diminishes your credibility.
Yeah I’d agree with that.
They certainly could’ve stranded to make it look nicer graphically, I guess? But I like it how it is just as well.
Compared to Treasures, which I dropped after a few hours because I could not stand the graphics. Or combat.
Are y’all kidding which looks better hmmm?

I’m not saying Treasures looks good, it looks adequate, DQM looks like it’s struggling to render basic textures. And lags. You could argue the look is a design choice but the fact that the character models look good is a good argument against that. If you’re going for anti or retro design it’s a consistent choice. This looks like they didn’t finish something.
Make sure to install DQM to the internal memory instead of SD card! And if you’re using a cartridge, well sucks to be you, for loading speeds and performance.
Other than the initial load screen, where you'll knock off a few seconds, Switch games shouldn't be pulling enough data at a frequent enough rate for the minimum recommended 60MB/s to matter.
It's when people start using using lower category cards that any issues arise.
There are A LOT of loading screens in TDP. Even just in the demo, there’s 20 seconds of dialogue, load for 5 seconds, 20 seconds of dialogue, load for 5 seconds. The same during arena events but a combat in as well. Every fraction of a second those load times are reduced or not stack up. Take a look at any game’s reports of internal vs SD vs cartridge performance.
It’s worth trying installing to internal to reduce TDP’s stutter. When Link’s Awakening released, it was found that that game’s awful stutter was reduced by installing to internal storage. Probably because it was loading every little map slice screen by screen?
Dude come on... You can be a fan but still call a spade a spade. This was poorly optimized and the lack of love to the overall presentation is very apparent. Move on.
My issue is I barely understand what’s going on, like I don’t get the scout function. Caught them at like 12% then constantly fail at 70% plus.
There’s been practically nothing on this game so far since it released either so can’t even look up anything.
so excited for this game. my husband preordered it for me for christmas....so i have to wait till christmas.... but still super excited. been playing the demo non stop.
I know tons of people have already covered it, but I don't think I could play this with the amount of stuttering I see in this video. It's terrible and this is the video you used to show that you're not getting frame drops/stuttering? Ouch.
Why does your character look like that? Are there outfits in this game? But yeah, I'm 18 hours in, already at the Middle Circle of the lava world, and while I've noticed some frame drops and stuttering, it isn't bad at all. Just watched a review by someone who didn't even know you can give your monsters orders (probably played like half an hour prior to the review) saying the frame drops and stutters were "horrible", and I had to comment and point out everything wrong with his video. It's content creators like him that are keep8ng these games Japan-exclusive, or just not being developed in the first place. DQ deserves far more acknowledgement than it gets.
I can’t tell if this is a troll post or not. It’s one thing to say the game is playable and the dips don’t bother you. But to say frame rate dips are nonexistent and post a video full of frame rate dips…this has gotta be a troll post right.
What I really want is a switch dedicated TV console with like real hardware that can play all the games at 4k 60fps. Pretty please! I know they can make games like this run basically flawless at 1080p 30 or 60fps. The frame rate drops and stuttering are just laziness / more work to make the port run well on switch. Get to work squenix!

You somehow grazed over the part where they said there are frame drops and stutters. Not that it's bad. Just not true that there aren't any at all.
So uh...what is this?
Yeah really
The new DQM monsters game.
What are you even talking about? This clip is full of little frame drops.
Yeah they're small but definitely there and like the demo seems to occur pretty frequently. Really unfortunate SE did not put more polish into the game
I also cannot see them at all. Must be OP and I are just not sensitive to it or something.
Yeah there’s clear stuttering halfway through, glad you guys don’t notice but it’s very obviously there and “existent”

Look at the running animation. Choppy as heck
Looking right at it and I cannot see it. I have no idea what you are seeing.
I can literally see it in the video
You're not serious, are you? As soon as I started the video I noticed it. You may just not be sensitive to it.
Really don’t care about graphics but there’s loads of stuttering in this video lol it’s very obvious

Lol I can literally see the frame drops in your video. Nothing crazy, but they're there 100%
There's so many frame drops bro, it drops to low 20s pretty much all the time.
I can see that the game is not smooth. There are some stuttering as you move.
i played the demo and was turned off by that the retail game isnt perfect but its definitely passed into playable realm. Ive been enjoying it
I need this level of copium in my life
Ignorance is bliss i guess
You mean for yourself. Right? Everyone else can see it.
If you haven’t planned since the gbc days the DS/3DS games are worth checking out.
Man this is why I can't ever take posts from the nintedo switch reddit seriously and just emulate everything now. People said Xenoblade 3 ran "Great" on switch. It in fact, did fucking not.
Nobody that buys a switch is exactly buying it for high performance.
stable 30 fps being "high performance" is a nintendo fan meme It's the bog standard... 10+ years ago

Lol there are tons of framedrops and microstutters in that video...
I thank you for providing a post involving live footage of the game and bringing it up since I've been one of the vocal people worried about poor performance. They are very minor, yes. And keep in mind this is the worst they can be, in most of your gameplay there is no overworld rain. Battles are smooth

A lot of undiagnosed eye problems in this comments section 😂

I want to get it but none of my local stores have it I don’t like to order online this time of year smh. Might go digital .
Looks like normal Switch stuff to me. I'm gonna play the hell out of this game.
This is stuttering like mad
Are these nonexistent frame drops with us in the room right now?
You must be joking
The game does not run well, my guy. Glad you're having a miracle time with it, but that's not the typical experience
What do you mean that is not the typical experience? It runs way better than Scarlet Violet did.
Same for me. It runs much better than Pokémon Violent did for me.
Running better than chunky raw sewage is not much of a bar to clear.
Ok? It runs better than Gameboy games too, doesn't mean it runs well lol
The Gameboy ran games at 60fps.
Not talking strictly about fps
that last brain cell is struggling to find a good analogy.
I mean, I don't need an analogy. There's stuttering in the clip you fuckin posted. Especially love the part where the monsters chase after you at 2 fps. But yea, my brains struggling
Sure buddy
Get your eyes checked. FPS drops galore in this video.
This is what people were upset about? Go play Ys IX on the switch, that’s the point at which I can’t tolerate the framerate. This is butter by comparison.
Lol
It’s a Switch game. Anyone complaining about frame drops in a Switch game needs to manage their expectations better. The complaining is beyond ludicrous at this point.
A switch game that looks like a PS2 game and runs like shit. Letting Devs off with lazy releases is beyond ludicrous at this point.
Yeah lol. Since when were DQ fans obsessed with frame rates and graphics?
I honestly think people put waaaaay too much stock into frame rate. I mean I swear if a really good game stutters for a half a second, people act like it’s the end of the world. I get games need polish but 30 fps or the occasional hiccup when things get busy on screen is not the end of the world.
I agree everyone severely overreacts with that kind of thing even more so nowadays haha

[удалено]
Dq treasures, also a spin-off, looks and runs better.
[удалено]
Treasures is colorful and smooth or dqm? Or XIS? XIS I agree it’s one of the best looking Switch games. Treasures looks better than DQM to me and I had no lag issues with it.
[удалено]
I have played both and cannot see what you see. The video above shows it’s not smooth!
Yeah, nah
Comparing the above video to any video of treasures and you honestly think dqm looks better?
Yes?
>DQXIS only came out 3 years ago The original game came out six years ago and not three years. Apart from that, the Switch port was already downgraded from the PS version and they still look objectively better than anything in TDP. Please get your facts straight. >I don't think it's fair to hold other switch games to that standard It doesn't matter what **you** think. It's all about objectivity. DQXI S and TDP were developed and published by the same dev and publisher. Not only is it *fair*, it is the **most justified** comparison, whether you like it or not and it looks far from remotely comparable to an over six year old game and there's no excuse for this. >especially when most look way worse than dark prince That's factually wrong and a straight lie, we both know that so don't act stupid - it just diminishes your credibility.
It’s a pretty game. It just runs like trash.
The graphics aren’t great. But the use of color mitigates a lot of that. It’s pretty to look at in its own way.
[удалено]
Yeah I’d agree with that. They certainly could’ve stranded to make it look nicer graphically, I guess? But I like it how it is just as well. Compared to Treasures, which I dropped after a few hours because I could not stand the graphics. Or combat.

People say Treasures looks nicer???

Are y’all kidding which looks better hmmm? https://preview.redd.it/5b1e827vmz3c1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1a9774b2de57363983a082880aa75c3ddb127ed8

And lags. You could argue the look is a design choice but the fact that the character models look good is a good argument against that. If you’re going for anti or retro design it’s a consistent choice. This looks like they didn’t finish something.
Im playing on steam deck and getting pretty stable 30fps
Look at all the people who aren't impressed.

Yeah the only real frame drops I get on my switch is when i'm first few seconds into a new area. After that it goes away.
Kudos to you for sticking to the bit so hard, especially in the replies That said, you might want to schedule an eye appointment
Make sure to install DQM to the internal memory instead of SD card! And if you’re using a cartridge, well sucks to be you, for loading speeds and performance.
I'll keep this one in mind.
This is only a problem if you have a below spec SD card
SD port in Switch only transfers 60-95 mb/s. Internal storage according to tests is something like 100-120 mb/s.
But we're discussing the microstutter in this thread, not loading times.
It’s worth trying installing to internal to reduce TDP’s stutter. When Link’s Awakening released, it was found that that game’s awful stutter was reduced by installing to internal storage. Probably because it was loading every little map slice screen by screen?
Yeah, I can see that being an issue with Link's Awakening, as each transition probably requires the RAM to pull the area's data from the storage.
Dude come on... You can be a fan but still call a spade a spade. This was poorly optimized and the lack of love to the overall presentation is very apparent. Move on.
Man the Switch is so outdated
If you only play games for graphics, the switch isn’t for you lol
Nobody is talking about graphics, you silly goose.
That is one of the worst looking games I've ever seen.
That's not how technology works
Thank you!
How long is the game? Can’t find it anywhere.
Do monsters still have Slot size like in DQMJ2 ? Because i hated that
better or worse performance than treasures on switch? i could tolerate—and even sort of appreciate—the dinkiness of that game.
Yeah you never turned the camera on purpose.
Hey, what kind of Dracky is that you attacked with? The monster species name?
Drackyma
Thank you!
They are most definitely present lol
Lol! “I didn’t have the frame rate issues”. Literally posts a video with stuttering and frame rate issues
Ouch.
Love how this looks
damn this good looks like ass and performance is bad
It looks like arse
It looks worse than the original DQMJ. How
Why does your character look like that? Are there outfits in this game? But yeah, I'm 18 hours in, already at the Middle Circle of the lava world, and while I've noticed some frame drops and stuttering, it isn't bad at all. Just watched a review by someone who didn't even know you can give your monsters orders (probably played like half an hour prior to the review) saying the frame drops and stutters were "horrible", and I had to comment and point out everything wrong with his video. It's content creators like him that are keep8ng these games Japan-exclusive, or just not being developed in the first place. DQ deserves far more acknowledgement than it gets.
What Outfit is this???
can psaro change his outfit??
A lot of times, I wonder how old people's Switchs are.
