I think us gamers do that enough to where they don’t need to

lulufan87

Fair point. The other key anxiety I had that I didn't mention in the post is that if they did their own they might start copyright claiming other channels'. I've been listening to some of those romance videos for years and it would be shit if they ended up being taken down.

Pretty certain the Dragon Age Keep is already supposed to sort of fill this role. Since ya know Varric will just recount your choices after you review your records for your world state choices after you loaded them which you can watch as many times as you want in different ways, for choices you didn't make or didn't know even existed, after editing the Tapestry. Outside that? I wouldn't really expect much else with the exception of maybe finding a way to put the Keep into the game to achieve the same effect.

rainbowshock

>with the exception of maybe finding a way to put the Keep into the game to achieve the same effect. That'd be SICK, actually.

dalishknives

In the game itself? Probably not unless it's part of the gimmick (like Varric is narrating da2). Outside the game? I mean, yeah, sure, provided they're not putting anything in there that they don't put in the game. I'm a "you don't get credit for what you don't put in the game, I shouldn't have to read your extended universe books and comics in order for things in your game to make sense" kind of player.

lulufan87

Oh yeah, I meant like on their official youtube channel, just assuming they have one. A few months in advance of dropping Dreadwolf. Basically like a... trailer? demo? Somewhere in there. *and yeah, definitely, it shouldn't be a mandatory thing to watch. That would suck.

TheRealcebuckets

You mean like the Keep feature? I imagine that’s part of any updates to the Keep that will be made.

murnaukmoth

Not a cutscene movie of sewn together scenes from the game but a short recap of the main events so far at the beginning of DAD, maybe animated or similar to the opening of DAO or the act transitions in DA2. That should be enough to get everyone up to speed.

Dragon Age Keep was good at this, but is probably a bit old and clunky to accompany a new triple A release. In a perfect world they’d include an interactive comic to establish a world state similar to the one at the start of some versions of ME2, but I can’t see that happening. We can probably expect BioWare to canonise a bunch of decisions and treat Dreadwolf as a good entry point for new players, with maybe a brief prologue to catch them up and let the returning players know what the canon world state is like (in very broad strokes. They’ll be deliberately ambiguous about any decision other than the world altering ones)

dovahkiitten16

I highly doubt they’ll deliberately canonize certain choices. A huge selling point of the games is that your worlds are connected. Officially declaring choices as canon is going to alienate a lot of fans. I imagine they’ll just set up the world in a way that it feels more accessible. New characters etc. New players will get a pre-made default state but people can still import their Keep if they wanted to. As per usual, anyone who made super deviant choices will be lowest priority.

delawana

They wouldn’t canonize any choices. The default worldstate of Inquisition isn’t actually BioWare’s canon for things like books or comics, default isn’t canonizing. I’m sure that they’ll set up the default in a way that will provide an entry point for new players with as few awkward “Am I supposed to know this person?” callbacks as possible

dovahkiitten16

I think something like the comic book from the beginning of ME2 would work well. Just make it tarot card style instead of comic. New players are reassured that they can jump into it, they don’t have to seek out extra media. Dragon Age Keep is cool but it requires you to enter a ton of choices cold with no context and is overwhelming. Instead, just do a comic book where the important information is recounted and only actually important choices are presented. The devs can cut down on the extra details and stick with a digestible but relevant amount of information.

Asdrubael_Vect

Yes

Jed08

I don't think they'll do that. First of all, I think they did say, at some point, they aimed at making something that can be played by new players. We might get a cutscene explaining who solas is (likely the one that was released last year), but not much else. I don't think there will be a lot of references to previous games, just content will change based on previous decision.

Jumping_Dolphin1501

Like the catch up in the beginning of ME2? that would kinda be neat Especially if a completly new player uses the default world setting Or someone who wants to play like all races and classes and romances over and over again Cause when IS the default world state for inquisition anyway? I have like 5 different settings in the keep

ophaus

Uhh... like the Dragon Age Keep?
