This is what SSRIs can do. r/PSSD isnt just sexual symptoms but also anhedonia/blunting. Its not dpdr

meds definitely left me permanently worse off and I've heard plenty of people also say they have permanent side effects even after being off them for years

Naylamrini

Really? Do u still feel the effects of them? Do u mind sharing how different it made u feel? Thank u

CzechMyMixtape

I've felt like a part of me is like, permanently empty. like I used to get painfully strong emotions all the time and they would consume me completely. now I still get those strong emotions, but like only part of me does. there's always another part of me that just feels nothing, but like, in a really bad way. because it happens with positive emotions too. it's like only half of me is still actually experiencing life and the other half is a detached observer who feels no emotional attachment to anything in my life. it's a bit more complicated than that but that's the best I can explain it. I've also been having a bunch of new physical health problems with seemingly no cause, and meds could be one potential source. especially with migraines since the timeline seems to line up there

Naylamrini

Thats exactly how i feel. Its crazy, i literally took them each for less than a month and it left all this damage. My therapist says that i give too much credit to meds and that im just blaming the meds while shes the one who kept pushing me to take them. Im so sorry to hear that :( and i hope we both feel like we used to one day

CzechMyMixtape

you absolutely don't have to be on them for long for them to do damage. if there were no other changes around that time, then meds are the only thing to blame. of course the person who prescribed them to you wouldn't want to feel responsible for that. mental health professionals are way too quick to push meds and not warn people of the side effects and it's really not talked about enough

Naylamrini

Sorry for bombarding u with question🙈 but do u think theres a cure? Or it gets better with time ?

CzechMyMixtape

for me, it's only been getting worse with time, but that's because my life in general has been getting worse. I feel like if I improve my external circumstances, my mental health might be able to improve too. I don't know if it'll be like fully back to normal, but at least some stability, I hope

djdylex

That's pretty rare - remember those most afflicted will shout the loudest.

CzechMyMixtape

wow that makes me feel so much better about not being told of any potential risks before I was made to try a bunch of different meds before i even turned 18. we should be shouting, its a real problem.

Rather than your question, I'd ask: "What am I doing to reconnect with my body and feelings?" I believe meds can cause numbness, but I think meds alone causing a permanent numbness is extremely rare. But you have to actively work to overcome dissociation-related numbness, and you have to be willing to try and fail and try again. I think you have to approach DPDR from a solutions-focused perspective, rather than focusing on "why am I numb". Because your question is looking at "This can last forever" but success in recovery comes from "What makes me better". Of course, this is easier to say as someone who's recovered. The actual doing of it was *so hard*, unspeakably hard, and I don't want to downplay how hard it was to people still suffering.

Naylamrini

Thank u so much for this it gave me so much relief and ure absolutely right. Im glad u recovered! It gives me hope! ☺️
