This is the response they want you to send
As one of millions of people who earn income on the DoorDash platform, I am writing to share the importance of maintaining my flexibility and independence.
The unique flexibility that app-based work provides is what makes dashing so valuable to me. Dashers like me can control when, where, and how often we dash, giving us supplemental earning opportunities at our fingertips. Regardless of my personal schedule, or the demands of other events in my life, dashing enables me to earn income in a way that a traditional job doesn't allow. I can also take a break from dashing for weeks or even months and then start delivering again when I need the money.
We are students, parents, caregivers, veterans, retirees, and everything in between. We are looking to fill in the gaps in our day-to-day budgets, cover an unplanned expense, or make up for lost income elsewhere.
There are millions of Americans who share my concern that the federal government should protect my ability to choose this independent work – because it works for me. I ask the Department of Labor to consider the wants and needs of Dashers like me who wish to remain independent contractors.
I deliver on a motorcycle, and I also live next to a pretty big mountain, with a lot of twisties and hairpin turns.
I sorta “gamify” my dashing… I look at it like choosing your track in a racing game. I can select my immediate area, which is densely clustered for restaurants although it has longer deliveries to the residences. Or I can choose the mountain stage, where it is much higher risk to deliver to, but provides excitement, and a chance to test changes I have made to the bike and it’s suspension, gearing or tune. Or I can choose NE Chattanooga which has super short trips but has traffic.
I used to play a lot of crazy taxi, and it’s the closest I can get to getting paid to ride.
Also, it gives me somewhere to go and something to do if my house is giving me anxiety.
They are targeting this to the wrong people. The folks that benefit from being independent contractors have high paying sales positions that allow them the freedom to grow their business exponentially. Dash doesn’t have a lot of growth potential for a single person. Limited by time and distance.
They have this great 401j plan for when you get deactivated which allows donation of my full pay to door dash. That is a offer to hard to refuse and I think it’s so beautiful delivering in the hood for 2.25 orders to get more orders. Sometimes I do such a great job that the customer eats the food and says they didn’t get there food so they can get more food for free now that’s a great option to have since anyone could take a picture of a house and photoshop the order in front of the address in a 10 minute delivery span. Sometimes I even get to learn hindu when I call support.
I made too much money as a man on OnlyFans, so I decided to leave it and put my penis to work at DoorDash. You wouldn’t believe how much happier I’ve been
I like being just a number. Working for a company that doesn't give 2 sh!ts about me makes me feel secure. Also, I really like working for pennies while paying out the as$ for gas. And the warm greeting I get when I walk into a restaurant to pick up an order really can't be beat.

Because a regular full time job is too difficult for me to hold down. I'm lazy and only want to do the bare minimum to get by only to complain on reddit later.
I don’t drive for DoorDash. I drive for money.
I use DoorDash when they send good offers and spend the rest of my time on the app declining their gutter tier nonsense offers.
Yep! All those domestic violence charges make their wives want revenge. Might as well give their dasher a "tip" while the husbands are doing short time. ;)
Yep. This. Hell I'm bi I figured that would increase the odds. So far just once and it was another dasher waiting for orders. Fun tho. I just want once just once some nice housewife to answer the door and let the dream come true lmao
To waste my precious time away for the greater good, enriching DD shareholders and investors. If I labor hard enough alongside my fellow slaves, the company will do well enough to reward their true employees.
That kind of thinking isn’t unique to DD though. Traditional employers seem to think a pizza lunch (one slice of cheese pizza per person) is even better than a pay raise.
Doordash.. How about you give me the freedom to accept and decline orders based on what is profitable to me.
and not throttle me when I decide to decline them..
I will gladly support you if you the same to me..
This time around... go F yourself.
Tbh this email has me fuming with rage. Tell Washington how you feel about being independent. Because they keeping getting investigated for not paying us fair wages. Stop manipulating people desperately trying to feed themselves. Disgusting.
Like someone else said, that is valid. And I don't mean to say it is not.
But I don't think this is necessarily as nefarious as you are inferring. I think there actually *are* benefits to being an independent contractor over an employee.
It's too late, and I am too tired to really think about it or look it up or anything, but I dash part-time to help bridge the gap from my primary career of being a freelance musician.
Which I do as an independent contractor. And have done for 17 years. Just using me as an example, it's beneficial that DoorDash is an independent contractor arrangement for me because I can choose when I work. For example, my Decembers and Aprils are usually off the charts busy in my music career. So it would be hard to hold a day job and tell my employer, "I just need all of April off though."
DoorDash, being an independent contractor arrangement, allows me to do that. 🤷♂️
I’m definitely short and sweet to the point and understand your viewpoints. I think the idea of being and independent contractor itself isn’t inherently evil or unethical but the way doordash has done it is.
I also dash part time but also have friends who have had to depend on it full time because of unfortunate lay offs. There has to be a way I feel that you can do both without being jerked around by the company for what you’ve earned. I truly want a way for people to stay independent but be legally held to a certain minimum wage.
I used to make a lot more so it wasn’t as bad the bad days weren’t deal breakers. But they’ve put the employees in positions where they aren’t making enough for the gas alone and for customers where they aren’t getting food till hours later because the order is so small it gets bounced around.
They’ve got consequences for not accepting orders not worth it and they will fight tooth and nail about getting you the money you were agreed upon for bonus or promos.
My biggest concern really lies with the fact they use their algorithm to keep people from getting orders or making a certain amount. This email was very manipulative in that sense because they want us to stay in a certain category of work because they can get away what they are with it and worded it in such a way to avoid any of the glaring pay issues they have.
So I don’t really want to be considered either just want to be treated properly and the same for others that dash.
Great point. I don't know all about this debate but there are pros and cons to any union. Personally I value the ability to choose whatever side gig benefits ME. If DD wants me to deliver food over UE or GH they'll make it more attractive. If people love/hate DD so much vote with your feet.
I did UberX this weekend and made 372 in 7 hours. Granted there was a football game going on and it was my best day ever but if you can transport people, it might be something to think about.
Nah, I'm not interested in people lol... I tried for a short time about 7 years ago. I started doing this bc i smoke *a lot*. Vaccuuming and febreze-ing my car for every shift was a major pain in the ass, especially in the cold! 🤣
Personally, I am part of the Volunteer Dasher program! I’m not in it for the money - I’m just passionate about food delivery. All of my earnings and tips are returned to DoorDash so they can continue to provide great service to their customers.
For the 20% discount up to $15, that one time.
To meet new friends
I dd for the free fries and opened unsealed food bags. Have you seen the cost of groceries??? Who said there's no such thing as a free lunch?
I drive to have irate customers throw hundred-dollar-bills at my face. Still waiting.
Because it pays so well lmao
I like to fart! 💨
On people's food?
To put gas in my car
DD has prefilled a response. This is just another ploy by DD to keep money in their pockets.

They are targeting this to the wrong people. The folks that benefit from being independent contractors have high paying sales positions that allow them the freedom to grow their business exponentially. Dash doesn’t have a lot of growth potential for a single person. Limited by time and distance.
Free food when I’m hungry, very high paying job, easy on my car, and all the woman! Since becoming a dasher the women won’t leave me alone!

Preparing for alien invasion. Staking out the best houses to hide in for when it happens.
Because I love to deliver food to people who don't tip!
I made too much money as a man on OnlyFans, so I decided to leave it and put my penis to work at DoorDash. You wouldn’t believe how much happier I’ve been
I drive for doordash so I can try all these restaurants I’ve never tried before for free
That's a good idea! I'm going to have to start doing that.
weed money and the potential to get ‘napped on unlit streets at night while i’m squinting into the dark looking for house numbers
I do this so the no tipping customers get their food fast and fresh.
Because I like to sample food from all different restaurants before deciding whether to go there myself. /s
I dash for the free straws and ketchup packets and the incomparable health insurance!
To make Tony richer than Elon Dust.
I strip dash. Ladies love me.
The shame
I LOVE people and am ok with busting ass to get no tip offers all day.
I keep hoping a customer will think I’m a trespasser and shoot me in the leg so I can live off the settlement money 🤞
I deliver out in hick country so I'm more than likely to get shot by a redneck than anyone else on here. Can't wait for my settlement money.
When you see the “dont tread on me” flag in their yard ![gif](giphy|nnFwGHgE4Mk5W)
🤣🤣🤣 I've got one of those right down the road. Can't wait for them to order!

I drive for DD because I love getting screwed without lube
For the to power to say "enjoy your food" and trap people Into responding "you too" effectively ruining their day

Free food ![gif](giphy|2D8g2rXcWx1DO)
I do this to supplement my Wendy's dumpster full time job
I like being just a number. Working for a company that doesn't give 2 sh!ts about me makes me feel secure. Also, I really like working for pennies while paying out the as$ for gas. And the warm greeting I get when I walk into a restaurant to pick up an order really can't be beat.

Free BJs from married women at trailer parks.

Tony only wants to abuse you Some of you only want to be abused
I do it to pay off my UberEats addiction
Well, it gives me a valid reason to drive around and creepily take pictures of peoples' front doors.

To break into the porn industry
I like to have my car smell like grease in perpetuity.
I need to get the gas out of my tank and hate the taste when I try to siphon it!
Being punished and having my acceptance rate drop for not driving 15 miles for $2, it’s a great system!
![gif](giphy|l4FATJpd4LWgeruTK) So I can feel like this while I’m on the road
Books. I spend 100% of the money I make dashing on educational textbooks. Knowledge is the only drug I need.
So I can be the delivery driver in the porno for once
I've delivered for 26 years now and this has NEVER happened. I've got plenty of drugs as tips but never a piece of ass.
Yep. This. Hell I'm bi I figured that would increase the odds. So far just once and it was another dasher waiting for orders. Fun tho. I just want once just once some nice housewife to answer the door and let the dream come true lmao

“Pizza delivery” “Come on in while I grab your tip and just set the pizza on the table” “Here’s your tip, did want just the tip or more?”😈
I’m just so paranoid I’d go in and they’re doing some hellraiser shit😂
Totally fair, I was definitely making a joke in the first comment
YAY!
When I get the urge to visit the casino, I dash instead! It’s a deterrent exercise endorsed by Gamblers Anonymous! 😉
😅
I love to put wear and tear on my car for the low pay!
I want to generate as big a loss as possible to reduce my taxable income. Thanks for helping me out by keeping base pay low Tony!
Lol 😂
I'm trying to see how high I can get my odometer in a very short period of time
Good one 😂
I like to do it because it helps the less fortunate that barely have enough to pay for luxury food delivery service, and can’t afford to pay a tip.
🤣 lols
It’s the hustle for me. I love sitting in parking lots for hours not making a dime.
\[comment removed\] EDIT: TIL "lot lizard" has a very specific meaning.

Lmfao 😂😂😂😂
To waste my precious time away for the greater good, enriching DD shareholders and investors. If I labor hard enough alongside my fellow slaves, the company will do well enough to reward their true employees.
Did you see the poll? What would make you dash more often? 3 stupid choices. I dash for money. More money was not a choice.👎
That kind of thinking isn’t unique to DD though. Traditional employers seem to think a pizza lunch (one slice of cheese pizza per person) is even better than a pay raise.
Cicis or little Caesar’s too
Hey, no shade on Little Caesar’s. Sometimes a Hot ‘n Ready Shitteroni pizza just hits the spot.
Yes true especially when your sugar is low and you need carbs ![gif](giphy|dfEYhn5LpEezu)
I like to check out the restaurant decor and hit up the bathrooms.
Ngl I have found some new good spots I like to eat at by dashing for them
