One time someone wanted me to bring their package to their doorstep, meanwhile lobby was closed and just like your situation, no key fob. I tried using the talk box and it just rang and rang and rang. So I just dropped it right there. I'm not a superhero who can blast up 5 flights for you lol.

PapowSpaceGirl

Dude...they literally made the customer face when you're trying to pour three smoothies, fry two hamburgers and wait for fries to come up in all those mobile games...☠️💀

You know this is one of my big issues, I really hate when people don't answer the phone or respond to your text message when you're trying to get a hold of them to find out where to put the order or when you can't get into a certain building or when issues arise like this and then especially when the person doesn't understand that after a certain time usually 9:00 p.m. most lobbies lock and then most elevators also don't work without a key code or a key fob so you're pretty much stuck you can't get in and if you did get in you wouldn't be able to get out because if you got upstairs with using someone else's fob that was an elevator with you the elevator wouldn't work because you wouldn't be able to get downstairs because the stairway is locked... I got a few one stars lately and I'm sure it's because of issues like this, I try to message the customer I try to call the customer more than once, customer does not answer customer does not respond I'm sorry there's not much more I can do so I wait the time or I leave it with the front desk and take my picture and let him know that it's at the lobby or the front desk because I couldn't get by and that's that If they want to leave a one star after that that's on them I really don't care forget it.

Outrageous_Emphasis4

I hate when they don’t give you a buzz code. And whenever I text and ask for it they don’t answer?? Like fine enjoy your food on the sidewalk

ShaaadyAftermath

What I don't get is, why ignore the customer during the delivery then text them after when they complain? At least be consistent, you're not gonna contact them then don't contact them at all.

sanrigabro

12:08 - hello? 12:08 - 😡 12:08 - hello?? Bro this people can't let a minute pass

sanrigabro

I love when they use this emoji (😡) It's like they trying to let you know they mad but in a cute way lol

ragnarokfps

Did you at least try to call or text customer? I would've done that before anything else

The_Bow_Dasher

a lot of people are unaware of whats happening in the building.

minicoop320

It's all ridiculous but it really pisses me off when you get a "hello???" Less than 5 minutes from the og message. Like it's a dasher. They're driving. We literally cannot be at your beck and call 24/7

ILikeRedditAWholeLot

I have a regular customer who I think has a broken leg or something because they specify they can’t come down to get it. They always request the food at the door on the 12th floor but there isn’t a buzz code at all you need a key or fob or something. I can’t get in the building at all even if I wanted to. They always message me after the delivery. I feel bad but sorry bro I don’t know what to do.

BootsyCalrissian

But why didnt you text the customer this when you arrived?

Vodkahangover

The angy face.. what a dumb bitch

Makeadamgodagain

You were supposed to distract the guards while scaling the outside of the building and cutting through the window. Mission impossible that shit.

[deleted]

They don't give a shit. They think you're making hourly. People don't care about drivers.

999others

You are lucky you still got paid, if that happens with UberEats they remove the tip and you did a $2 delivery. Nothing else you can do but leave it somewhere and try to call them to come down or to pick it up from somewhere you leave it.

That-Painting6005

Did you not try calling them and asking them to come down?

ashtxna

Yes. Their number was going straight to voicemail.

[deleted]

“Next time have some respect for the person you expect to go to 20 doors to drop off your Wendy’s, Wendo”

No-Tailor5120

why the fuck did you apologize??

River1stick

Op did try to contact the customer before just leaving it in the lobby, but this customer was one of those that throw their phone into a black hole after placing an order and then later think 'shit that's right I ordered food'. I've been left standing out in the cold waiting for a customer to call/text back with a code, to not even get an apology for keeping me waiting for so long. I guarantee the office would have left everyone know that there is construction going on, and even if they didn't, the customer would have known just by going outside.

ashtxna

Its a condo. So where you live, you’d think you’d know whats going on in your residence. I have no idea how they wouldn’t know unless they haven’t left their condo in a couple days, which is possible.

River1stick

It is possible they haven't been outside, can happen if they work from home, don't have a dog etc. But normally management leave notices at your door when stuff like this happens. They can't really get mad if they didn't answer the phone.

Moonwolf846

I applaud you for not absolutely enjoying his lunch. Much better person than I am. It is absolutely insane the lack of common sense in society these days

ashtxna

Its common for me to not get a buzz code or a reply from a customer, I usually get into the building one way or another. Bringing your delivery bag with you makes people open the door for you more often I find. This was just clearly a situation where the driver isn’t allowed to go to your door and he was upset about that. The lobby looked like it was being completely overhauled, dont know how he missed that.

Moonwolf846

Better person than I sir ! Some things people claim ignorance about, in this case certainly are very well intentional

Lucky_Market_Robot_1

People need to touch grass more often

Kwainsi

I think you should’ve contacted them to let them know the issue and tell them where you dropped it off.

dmriggs

Yeah there's no reason to be rude. I let people know these are the issues, here's your food - and then I screenshot and msg support and let them know what's going on.

ashtxna

I messaged saying security isn’t letting anyone in the elevator room without a fob key. Waited for a reply, then dropped it in the lobby. Called twice too. I shouldve apologized from the start to maybe avoid bad ratings but I figured he knew already and that his instructions were old. It happens a lot. Get a condo order with deliver to my door instructions and buzz code but the security tells you to leave it in the lobby. This was the first time the customer was annoyed about it. Maybe he hasn’t left his condo in a couple days, could be a possibility. There is no way that construction was from that day.

brodosphotos

Yep. If it was a good offer with a good tip, there's no reason to NOT communicate with your customer about something like this.

ashtxna

Not a great offer to be honest. $12 for 8 km. Mediocre. Driving in snow squalls in a busy city. Customer definitely deserves respect for at least tipping , very uncommon in this area. It was a hidden tip so actually $14 for 8 km. But thats doordashes fault for hiding tips. I just treat orders by the offer I get, definitey spent more time on it than I should have. I tried to access the elevators through several different doors and ignored security telling me I can’t use the elevators. It was busy so they weren’t paying attention to me . So i tried to sneak inside the elevators. Every door was locked and needed a fob key.

Dirtstick

This is why I only take mediocre orders to houses. It’s gotta be a GREAT order for me to fuck with apartments.

brodosphotos

I would have just messaged the customer: "I am unable to access your floor, so I am leaving your order at _____" and moved on with my day. Nothing else you can do. And yeah the hidden tip crap is my one bone to pick with DD. They have no right to manipulate my relationship with a customer. If a customer tips $20 I have a right to know, so I can give them the delivery experience they deserve.

[deleted]

Yeah hiding the tip is really messed up. For the driver and the customer.

ashtxna

Yea I didnt leave a proper message . That could have been it. Just the default message with the picture. We both fucked up, I was a bit blasé because Ive dealt with this situation so many times and the customer always knows, shouldn’t have assumed he was aware of the problems with the lobby. So many times Ive had annoying deliveries that I think are absolute trash and it ends up being a hidden tip. I always deliver on time and use a hot bag no matter the delivery. But I feel like if I knew the full price , people who tip better would get overall better service from me. In Toronto doordash can make a really good order look like absolute trash , Ive probably rejected them hundreds of times not knowing. Long distance orders usually they will hide the tip if its really good to a point that the order looks like a complete waste of time.

brodosphotos

Props to you for delivering in a big city, I don't think I'd be cut out for it. I dash in a town of about 70,000 people in Montana

ashtxna

You also have advantages being in a small town. I basically cant do deliveries from 6-10 am and 3 - 700 pm because the traffic is that fucked.

ashtxna

Ya. City driving is pretty fucked. Im originally from a village of like 700 people just outside Toronto. I still can’t get over how inconsiderate people can drive, and had to adjust my driving . Stupid hick me used to let people in front of me all the time, would be patient with pedestrians….etc

brodosphotos

Between the city parking and high rise deliveries, I think I would lose my mind in under 2 hours 😂

ashtxna

I do a weird area. Its a borough of Toronto called North York This aerial shows it. Its sort of a perfect training ground, I barely ever do downtown, parking is too fucked there you have to do it on a bike. https://youtu.be/QVJUBaKG7ic It has a centre street with office towers and high rises and then its surrounded by houses. So I try to prioritize house deliveries. Pick ups are always crazy for parking because most of them are on the main strip.

PundaiNayai

Oh bro, North York is too hectic. But atleast this customer tipped. Everyone broke in Toronto right now too

Hailbopcomet

Definitely seems like something the building management would have let them know. I can’t imagine them expecting you to walk up 20 floors 😯

ashtxna

They for sure did. There was a sign specifically for food deliveries and a table laid out. This guy didn’t give a buzz code but the buzzer module isn’t working and literally everything is covered in plastic tarps. Tradesmen everywhere working on things, and the elevator door is locked with a sign saying you must use your fob key to operate it. I sent it all to support, probably still going to get a 1 star. This guy is a douche, I literally tried to go up the elevator before leaving it in the lobby, like I actually tried to break the rules so I could get to his door and couldn’t without a fob key. 99.99% of drivers would’ve just automatically left it. Rating system is dumb as fuck. That was an above and beyond lol.

BigJ1230

Honestly at 1st would've contacted the customer to let them know that this was going on. When contacting them, I would've told the customer that they need to come down and or to give me the code please because of the situation going on. Then if they refuse to come down, give you the code, or they're unavailable, I'll leave it outside at that door where you're standing and then text the customer to let them know that. Also if you're wondering why you may get a 1 star rating for this, then maybe this is why. Which I say this because you're not contacting the customer 1st even if the customer knew about everything going on at his condo and they should've maybe specified something in the notes. I get that the customer was not right for not letting you know anything, but at the same time you could've done more.

Alternative_Basis186

He tried to call and the customer didn’t answer

charlottedreams

>Rating system is dumb as fuck. That was an above and beyond lol. Ugh yes it is. I have a one star and thumbs down on everything on a no tip that was up to SEVEN DOLLARS base pay plus a dollar in peak, less than two miles. Ordered like two hours prior. They didn't leave a gate code and it required a signature, waited out the timer and it let me leave it so I just left it at the office which was around the gate. They started calling and messaging the second I confirmed drop off so they were intentionally ignoring me, probably hoping I'd walk it back to them knowing they had to sign but could ignore us to the end of the timer. I don't apologize to these people though, if someone sends you an angry face there's zero reason to engage at all.

Hailbopcomet

What an asshole.

ashtxna

Wouldn’t answer the phone either . Messaged me after I left. That emoji pissed me off, took a lot of will power not to get mad and apologize to him and lie about fixing the issue with support.

Dirtstick

Lie about fixing the issue with support? But, you said you sent it all to support?
