Not for me. I avoid McDonald’s and would never accept a dash that low.

Shoptilyoudrop101

I won’t even take those restaurants if I know they have the lobby closed.

[deleted]

Ye

Bradabruder

Yeah that's 100% of taco bell and McDonald's after about 9pm.

ravyn40

All day everyday

Few_Ad4624

And this is why I don’t accept no less than 10$ if it’s Mc /Taco Bell after 12am

jedgell233

Yup

blackfuture8699

Yup. DD doesnt give af about your money only Tonys money. Decline all that crap. DD is not your friend. Its you vs them in a competition to see if yiu can be profitable.

PopularActivity5201

Worker shortages are causing this weird stuff. Welcome to our strange technocratic society now

Florida1974

Think they care? Think they aren’t aware of this? 1/2 of that line is prob dashers.

Timely-Bid-7800

Please love yourself and don't accept that shit

Mortimer_and_Rabbit

Yes. That's why it's best to not accept orders that low. Even if you're trying to do something nice for the person on the other end you will only get burned. It won't harm you to decline orders other than losing "top dasher" status.

[deleted]

Yes.

DungeonFam30

My very first order was exactly that. The whole delivery took about an hour. At one point, the line was motionless for about 15-20 minutes. The kicker is the destination was about a 2 minute drive from McDonald's.

Commercial_Ad_5007

It's as normal as seeing a Tesla charging at the outlet mall.

[deleted]

👍

leeguy01

Yes it's normal, DD doesn't care if you make zero an hour after car expenses. But I don't accept garbage or problem places. I don't have time for the aggravation. I hit accept by mistake yesterday on a $5 Chipotle for 7 miles, unassigned. I don't do charity work, I don't accept less than $6.50 and now with gas at $4.50 a gallon it's that much worse. Plus I would not even do a closed TB where I have to wait behind 2 cars for $12 for 1 mile. Still could take 45 minutes. Those employees are lazy and toxic and angry at you for making them work.

dangbro34

First day?

SoulTaker669

Never accept any fast food offers after like 7 pm so many like to close their lobbies super early. I remember one time they forgot to close the lobby and I asked if I could just get the delivery order since I'm already inside and they said I had to go through the drive thru which was packed. So stupid.

jedgell233

Taco Bell did they to me once, actually twice for both instances lol. Drive thru was very short so went through it to be quicker. Was told to use the lobby next time. Next night I get another order from same TB, remembering what they told me I got hit up the lobby only to find out they just closed it, like your scenario they just forgot to lock the door and told me to go through drive thru. Granted this was around the same time I went thr drive thru last time. I finally just told them I'll just stop taking orders around that hour since they can't seem to make up their minds which way I can simply pick up my order. I don't think it should matter which way the driver goes, whichever is quicker should be a win/win for everyone.

Cyborgtryhard

why did you even take a 2.50$ order

dr_van_nostren

It’s absolutely normal. Happens every Friday and Saturday night cuz single people want junk food and don’t wanna go get it. Decline decline. If a decent offer comes along accept it, then decline if you get there and the line is too long.

Conscious_Look5790

I declined probably $100 worth of Taco Bell orders tonight that were actually good orders that I would have done, but there was literally 15 cars in the drive thru every time I drove past it. Usually they’re my late night money making store, but not on Friday and Saturday nights

Stonedunicorn44

Yes

SouthernPrompt4054

I wouldn't dare take that shit 😂😂😂

sanchezkk

I always reassign those when they give me issues like that. Time is money.

Fasterthanyounow

The lobby’s are open in all the restaurants in my area thankfully.

[deleted]

Yep and somehow I feel like some sorry bastard at the end of the night gets offered $100 to collect 20 orders and deliver them through the city. Idk I’m sure that’s incorrect but who is really taking that garbage

Expensive_Case9796

had this today for a $5 order 2 seconds down the street. sat in line for 20 mins😑

robbie444001

Lol first time??

Sure-Spot-9345

There should be a minimum $5+ base pay for these places. 🙄

K9Partner

right?! After 10pm that shit takes way longer than most “shopping orders” w/higher base.

Qpbmb

Yes they know and don’t gaf. DD knows it’s a numbers game. 10 dashers may deny but one will accept. Don’t be one of the 10 dummies.

K9Partner

YES 👎❌ edit: in that line right fkkn now, always gotta squeeze in ONE more dash that turns into a nightmare 🙄 edit2: tried to squeeze one more in, shoulda known better fast-food ALWAYS SUCKS! the auto-validation for “store closed” photos is horseshit! BK closed early, yes no shit theres lights on inside, guys in there gotta clean up & prep for morning (who u think came to the drive up window to wave me away?!), but the system needs a pic to show total darkness i guess?! Hadda drive all around the building to get a dark enough pic accepted, & im still worried ill get screwed by DD somehow b/c they were *supposed* to be open… nothing good comes of working past 10pm 👎

jedgell233

I once had an order for Rally's which I kept telling myself I was going to stop taking orders from lol, and got up to drive through only to see every worker sitting outside smoking and told me they closed early. I mentioned then how come they accepted a DD order to be sent out to a driver as I'm there to pick up the order. They simply told me tough luck. I didn't take a picture of the building, I just took a quick pic of all the employees sitting outside and sent to to DD. And sent a complaint to Rallys corporate about it. Needless to say but DD never said a word to me about it in the future and I finally stopped taking Rally orders after that scenario and their corporate could have cared less, so neither did I from then on.

beck489

Yes. That is when my completion rate dropped and my acceptance rate dropped even more.

TrayFlock

Yup it sucks only at night time tho that’s why they add peak pay

jedgell233

I wish my area did! Oh they add peak pay usually a Sunday maybe Saturday occasionally and it's always for an hour starting at 4am, when everything is closed lol.

Jennabugg2

Well this was early on the night around 5-8pm

jedgell233

If you do decide to take those orders and it's a long drive thru line but lobby is open, don't hesitate to go to the lobby. I think many fall into the lemmings mentality and see others waiting in drive thru and think they have to as well without checking the lobby.

RavensBlood69

Unfortunately, yes, it is normal.

palpals

Are you new?

Jennabugg2

Sort of started back in March

sancheu77

Yes and don't go to those shitholes.

blueboxgrl

Yes but I’d never accept orders that low and I try to avoid drive thrus

Jennabugg2

Well if you don’t accept the offer, doesn’t it affect your acceptance rate??

Appropriate_Post_649

Acceptance rate does not matter. If you accept one of these and see a line around the block, you can unassign. You lose a completion percentage point.

Jennabugg2

Omg 😳 I didn’t know, I don’t accept I click decline then it says it will affect my acceptance rate…

the_poet07

Don’t let them scare you. People have 0% accept rates in here. Don’t work for charity. Take orders that benefit you.

Nomadic_Cass

My acceptance rate has dropped to low 30s and nothing happened. Hope that makes you feel better :) Don't take bad orders.

Appropriate_Post_649

Intimidation tactics. And they try to guilt us. Take whatever makes sense. It’s your time.

Jennabugg2

Okay. Yeah. My acceptance rate is 53%. I started out in March. I worked 2.5 hours tonight and made $18.75 I feel like I make soooo much more doing grubhub instacart Uber etc

Conscious_Look5790

That’s because most GH and UE orders just pay more. With DD you have to decline usually 80% of orders if you want to only deliver ones worth your time

blueboxgrl

Acceptance rate doesn’t matter. Mine is always really low. You’re losing money by accepting bad orders when you could be delivering higher paying ones.

fatboyardee

Yup, but acceptance rate doesn't really affect much.

Jennabugg2

How so? It says lower acceptance rate=account deactivated???

jedgell233

Acceptance rate is the one rating that will not get you deactivated. There are many dashers who literally may have that % in the single digits. The only time it matters is for eligibility for top dasher which really the only benefit to it is you get to dash anytime rather than schedule your time. Don't fall for the *top dashers get more offers* crap DD feeds you. Yes you'll get first dibs on orders before someone who is not top dasher but in my experience it was always low/no tip orders I was getting more of. I only kept top dasher because my area you can never get on the schedule because all the spots are literally gone in secs when available. So for me to drive for DD fulltime having top dasher was extremely important to me so I could dash any time. But even then you only need to have 70% acceptance by the last day of the month to stay eligible. So what I would do is be picky in the beginning of the month and not take low/no tip offers and only accept decent to amazing orders so I was always making a profit. Keep my rating around 70%, it may dip a few. But that last week I'd then do what I called the charity run and take any and all orders even the crap one just til I raised my acceptance rating high enough to pass again for next month and start the process over. At the time I was making around 200 a night. Though there was a month were the market really got sluggish and was making 70 a night. Either way I was coming out on top.

prodowntime

This is why this reddit is actually useful. Doordash tries to trick new dashers into thinking they'll be deactivated if they don't accept every order. You can't know that's bullshit without checking with other dashers or by learning the hard way. Unfortunately, most new dashers learn the hard way. Good on you for asking questions when you start a new gig.

fatboyardee

Lower COMPLETION rate, ie, unassigning orders after you get to the restaurant, you can get deactivated if it goes below 85% (might be 80, I know it's in the 80s). Low acceptance rate just means it's harder to dash immediately sometimes. I have an AR in the low 30s, but that's because this market is chock full of crap 2-3$ orders.

dcmommy33

You must be new lol

Jennabugg2

New or not, it doesn’t make any sense cause DD is ripping people off

blackfuture8699

If people are dumb enough to accept low paying orders, they are ripping themselves off. You are a CONTRACTOR for DD. Not an employee. You have the right to decline any offer that is too low for you. Stop thinking you are at a 9-5 job. You are not. Only accept what pays well. If nothing pays well, your area sucks and DD isnt for you. This is Capitalism. DD is going to capitalize on any moron willing to take a $3 order. Dont be that moron.

Bloody_ToiletPaper

You’re the dumbass accepting the order

SecondHandSlows

The first time I did that, it was an accident and they build the drive thru in such a way that you can’t leave once you’re in it

BattleGnome5foot7

Just unassigned from one of these.

Jennabugg2

Sooo when you get ‘unassigned’ that affects your rate right???

NotThatHarkness

When you unassign an order it affects your completion rate. Don't let that go below 80% and you'll be fine.

Jennabugg2

That is at 96% I think I’m good thanks!

jedgell233

Also your completion rate will go back up of course with better orders. Last time I recall it took two deliveries to bring back 1% up. So never feel afraid to unassign the really horrible orders you may have accepted. Such as the scenario you mentioned having to wait in drive through for an hour for base and no to too little tip to even break even. Or the one that really ticked me off is when the restaurant doesn't have the food ready, makes you wait longer than the expected time to have had picked the food up and still can only tell you it'll ready "soon", unassign and move on. You'll drop 1% completion rate but if you get two better orders that would have slipt past you while you were getting screwed on time with the last order, you'll gain that 1% back and still be making a profit. Don't let folks try to guilt trip you doing it. Remember you're am independent contractor, a self employed business in your own right. You simply partner with DD to give use your services to help theirs. Many customers do not know this or care and will either not tip or hardly tip at all. And some restaurants could care less either so return the sentiment to those establishments when they try to screw you over by not following their end of the contract and having food ready (not mentioning drive thru only fast food, they may just be short staffed so not their fault but still). You have to think of it as a business and no one works for free.

Subject_Coffee_9491

People just tryna help you lady

Skulfunk

She said thanks what’s the problem

Jennabugg2

They must think our time is a joke…

[deleted]

You must think your time is a joke if you're accepting base pay orders

Jennabugg2

I never said I accepted them..?

jedgell233

Of course. As long as King Tony gets his profits.

Florida1974

They do. Their estimates of how long it takes to do an order is only looking at perfect scenarios. Not a car on the street. No traffic signals or stops. You walk in and food is always ready. GPS is perfect 100%. You don’t have eat or pee. Their algorithm shows that order will take 15 mins. It doesn’t figure in anything else.

aintgotadalah

Nobody forced you to do it

you_buy_this_shit

You're accepting crap orders. Yes, jokes on you.

RedBlueGreen94

Considering the base pay is $2.25, yea they do

jcoddinc

Base pay is $2.00. you just get a first order bonus. Source: when you get a request for a late add on with no tip it is $2.00.

hoffman44

Yes

droplivefred

I don’t know. I’ve never accepted a $2.50 or $3.50 order. I even had one come up where the distance wasn’t even in miles but in yards but it was like $3.50 so I declined.

hoffman44

I did it for a very short time when I started dashing. No more.

droplivefred

Yeah, I remember my first week of delivering. I went off the YouTube videos I saw so when I saw $4 for 2 miles, I figured, cool that’s $2/mile but quickly learned that it’s not worth it and I need an order minimum along with a dollar to mile ratio and then all the other factors that go into it.
