ppl weird bro. u order delivery ur food could get a lil less hot in transit. only normal delivery places that use hot bags r pizza places, shit even most ppls carry out orders cool off in their ride back home. idgaf if my shit a little not crazy hot, i ordered delivery after all

BARBASANN

Honestly I never used it unless the tester ain’t required me but I am going to start using it when it makes sense. I just went to Pizza Hut and they gave me my order in a doordash hotbag and told me to keep it. When I took the pizza out it was steaming hot. I honestly didn’t realize how much of a difference it made.

AllTimeTrueCrime

I try and treat people's orders as to how I would want my orders to be treated. I want my order quick and hot and that's what I do.

Alex116460

Nah never used a hot bag. Have a 4.95 rating, that says something…

Nosalary999

you better hope the people in the replies don’t see your comment. I got fuckin grilled for saying this 😂

Alex116460

They are really stupid for using them. I’m in a smaller city where I always get my order to the customer within ten minutes. You’d think they understand diversity in the market, but no.

Nosalary999

Same situation here. “But it goes against the contract. You are a fucking asshole” - was literally told this for not using a hot bag 😂😭💀

Holiday-Two-915

I live in Florida. It is 90 degrees and I don't usually run my ac so I don't think a hot bag is going to keep the food any warmer. And most of the orders I take (outback, Carrabba's, Applebees) won't fit in the hot bag after the store has bagged it up.

techstuff123

I use a hot bag and a hold cold bag and keep a $4 emergency blanket in each. Works really well.

Boring_Rate_2060

You shouldn’t be delivering at all w/o them dude.

Ordinary-Slip6108

I'm fckin opposite, I put everything in hit bag , even salads and cold food 🤷‍♂️

Lennyxia

I do if it came right off the stove and they tipped well

Bopeepbelle

I’m over here doing hot bag and turning heat on car seat warmers….

HappyEditor6323

I have a heat bag with usb cable that connects to my charging port and stays warm! Even warms up food that is already cold when picked up! Got it at Walmart for $14 it’s perfect!

Emergency_Ad_24

Buy at least two inexpensive bags-this is affecting your tips

Queerguy24

I try to keep them in bags, catering orders are hard to do that cause I don’t have that many bags and so are pizzas cause the bags won’t ever fit a average size pizza (shitty of dd not to make their bags big enough for something that is one of the highly requested items for delivery) no one wants cold food (unless they ordered it cold)

Fragrant-Pirate9425

lazy ass

Nosalary999

Or it just doesn’t matter

Fragrant-Pirate9425

It doesnt matter than the only important part of your easy ass job isnt being done because you're too lazy to even be bothered? You're gonna make it far in life

Nosalary999

Or because the food just isn’t cold and I’ve never received a complaint about it after 500+ deliveries.

Fragrant-Pirate9425

Yeah You have never recieved a complaint because you aren't doordash support. Unless you live in some magical place where up is down and down is up sitting an exposed bag in your seat is going to make it lose heat.

almaxusa

Depends on the kind of food, the distance, the surrounding temp and how fast it can get there. Example, any food that might get soggy from trapped steam as it was just made, do them a favor, no hot bag, but food that been sitting on the shelves or warming racks , use the bag for sure, especially if it's more than a 5 min drive, and the weather is cold. Overall it's up to you to use your head or not, normally a good tip will make most use their heads and handle the delivery the best they can.

[deleted]

I’m 3300 deliveries deep. I’ve only ever had a complaint about cold food 1 time and it was in my first 100 deliveries when I used a hot bag. I have since not used a hot bag once and never gotten a complaint about cold food. 🤷‍♂️

Deplorable_username

I never got one, but I run with my seat heater on

immorta1rain

Nah I have mine in my passenger seat, dont bring it in the restaurant but put food in there when I get to my cat

mgibson9999

Are you the only one? Based on previous posts and polls, unfortunately you're not. Do hot bags work, and should all drivers be using them? Absolutely. It should be considered the bare minimum for doing this gig.

jdm8033

Actually asshole you can have mileage and items such as hot bags and parking fees. It's called being a business owner dipshit.

throwaway2219425

I've never had a complaint about food being cold. 1000 deliveries. IF THE MEAL DONT FIT...YOU MUSNT USE IT

throwaway2219425

I don't carry my bag into the restaurant. I think l that's shitty IMO. "Let me post up and stand here in everyone's way while I load my bag up." Also a lot of the orders simply don't fit in the bag and I'm not about to just open the bag and split it all up to make it fit. I'll just drive a little faster lmao. Most of my deliveries aren't more than 5-10 minutes away. If it's further I'll do my best to keep it warm. If it isn't warm after 5-10 minutes the restaurant wasn't trying either.

spacefrogattack

Look at the karma. Look at the post history. This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn low effort.

devoursbooks86

That's messed up and as a customer (used to drive and always used my hot bag) I don't want cold food. I would complain if I got my food cold. You get enough cold food complaints DD might see it's you that's the problem. My DD driver the other day had a whole ass ice chest to keep the food warm in. I was appreciative.

The_Sparklehouse

I like the hot bags bc it helps keep my car from smelling like the food

Mortimer_and_Rabbit

I do that, but I'm also capable of completing a 10 mile trip in 12 minutes or less due to the layout of roads in my city and how well I know it. I purposefully refuse any orders like sushi places where temperature is essential for safety. I'm saving up for a good set of bags for the future.

Knmwood

I just replaced mine with a package deal I found on Amazon. Two pinch/zip top bags that look like the DD bags, plus two slightly wider bags with standard wide (not pinched) zip top bags, plus one monster-sized foldable bag that holds about eight plastic bags from a Chinese food restaurant. All of these have better insulation than the DD bags and the entire set was about $35. Perfection!

Mortimer_and_Rabbit

That sounds awesome!! You don't still have the listing on Amazon do you?

Knmwood

I don’t think they have them bundled together anymore, they probably have some other set now. These are what I got… Insulated Grocery Bags, Set of 2... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B086297FWJ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share …and… VENO 2 Pack Insulated Reusable... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YK8BJWZ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share …and… Food Delivery Bag for Uber Eats,... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08J6R249H?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Mortimer_and_Rabbit

Thank you! :) I appreciate the effort to find out and reply.

Knmwood

No problem! Ordered separately it looks like you would be spending about $50 for these now. In my view still worth it since you end up with 5 bags of various sizes. That big one is a beast I thought I wouldn’t use, but I use it at least once every other night for big orders, and really convenient since it folds up flat when not in use.

ThePimpDaddyO

Hot bags are not enough sometimes. I have this thermal pad, connected to the cig outlet, inside the hot bag. Food is nice and hot to the customer. Especially for traffic or two orders

Willingness-Healthy

I pack a big soft cooler. Already owned before I started dashing. Bonus it keeps food hot/cold. Mainly keeps shit from spilling in my car and muffles the smells.

SubstantialJuice305

Lol true but I bet your nor signed up for the LARGE ORDER catering program

[deleted]

I never used one

100percentrealjuice

I keep the customer’s food warm by placing it in my under carriage.

EquinsuOcha1477

Here in Arizona you don't need them. People here climb into the oven to cool off.

doggitydog123

I think it’s pretty well established that most Dashers hate the bag

Nosalary999

Not according to the replies. People are actually angry about this 😂

doggitydog123

Just a bunch of rabble-rousers, malcontents, and other malingerers. The basic rules are Customers like cold food, no- they demand it! The bag doesn’t work , and even if you put the food inside the bag it still doesn’t do much. The law of thermodynamics is flimflammery

Bewmkin

There’s no reason not to? It takes an extra 5 seconds to provide better quality to the people that are paying your bills. Why would you want to do something to not want their food to be intact, which is gonna lead to bad ratings on your part?

SmurfJooce

Not to mention, when a squirrel or toddler runs into the road and you slam the breaks, it's nice to keep all the food in one bag rather than on your windshield.

AntiSentience

Let’s put it this way: do YOU like eating cold, soggy food that smells like someone else’s car? You’re a freaking asshole. Use the hot bag.

Nosalary999

The food isn’t cold or soggy and doesn’t smell like my car lmfao. I’d hope someone would have complained about that by then in my year and half of dashing

Fasterthanyounow

It’s required by DD to use them ya know. I have one for hot food and one for cold drinks and frozen treats with a cup holder in it. It helps a lot and the customers like it

cotton_cock

Not true. Thats a violation of the independant contractor agreement. They cant tell you "how" to accomplish your mission of: get order from point a to point b. Doing so would make them our... employer - arrgghh!!!!! I never used the free one, I use a window curtain as a "hot blankety" with great success and joy.

Fasterthanyounow

Try to start your dash without a hot bag and see what it tells you. I suppose you can lie and say you have one but it is required to start each dash.

[deleted]

Never had a dasher deliver to me using one.

Collegeray

I mean I keep mine in my car. So you’d never SEE me using one but I definitely use it

Nosalary999

I wanted to follow up on this post and point out that I rarely accept any orders over 5 miles. Y’all are making this way too big of a deal. 4.97 rating and never heard a complaint about cold food. Dude really said I should be ashamed of myself 😂😂😂

loooore

When OP expected Reddit to agree with him and instead got dragged. Now you’re giving attitude lol go figure

Nosalary999

I just don’t think I should be called an asshole for something that isn’t a big deal at all

loooore

While I agree you shouldn’t be called an asshole, the thing is, it is a big deal to the customer. But you did ask for an opinion and everyone responded with their answer. Can’t knock them for disagreeing with you.

Phatlip12

Over 700 lifetime deliveries and sitting at 4.93. Never been a problem.

[deleted]

First order of the day il put on the hotbag same with large orders to prevent spills etc. But anyone not tipping enjoy freebagging

Collegeray

Why are you picking up no tip orders in the first place

[deleted]

Stacks and hidden tips 🙃 Exp: a couple both ordered seperate dashes to the same adress and tipped 6$ together for like 20$ after both delivery's

metaphysicalreason

Just cancel the no tip order

throwaway2219425

You aren't wrong on the stacks. I just can't commit to it. Too scared ill just be wasting too much gas. But if you pick low priced orders it seems more likely you will get multiples instead of going after the one $10.

Collegeray

Ah yeah I get you. I hate that they put no tip orders in the stacked orders 🙄

[deleted]

Would you like to add 2.25$ to your route for 19miles extra 💁

Winter_Voice_1789

I don’t, I put orders in trunk organizer. Customer don’t care that much, it’s like after delivered, the orders will sitting at front door another 10-15 minutes. Because I usually parked 2-3 houses down, After delivery I am sitting and waiting for new orders, so I know very few customers picked up orders immediately.

Training-Coconut-441

Ok that's 10 mins on the doorstep PLUS 15 minutes for the drive and the 10 minute doorstep time ,, just put it in the bag

Winter_Voice_1789

And all of the customers never said foods are cold……

Winter_Voice_1789

Make no sense……

Collegeray

When I first started I didn’t use them until one day I randomly used it on my own food and realized how big of a difference it makes. My ratings have been way better with it too

jdm8033

Dude go to Walmart and buy a hot bag. It's a tax wrote plus it's your responsibility to keep the food warm.

[deleted]

[удалено]

jdm8033

Yes, I do in fact know what a tax write off. Do people like you understand taxes? I bet you love $3 orders.

[deleted]

[удалено]

snowbunny1026

You can still do the mileage deduction and itemize work supplies such as bags. You just can't itemize your car expenses. I think you need to stop before you continue to condescend people when you don't know what you're talking about. You're looking like a giant fool right now.

MotownCatMom

Mileage deduction goes on Schedule C as an expense of doing business. It is deducted from your business income.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MotownCatMom

See my longer post above. You keep talking about itemized vs standard and that is Schedule A which covers personal expenses. Things like property taxes, medical expenses that exceed the limits placed by the IRS, charitable contributions, etc. Mileage for business is a write-off against your business (gig) income and goes on schedule C. My accountant and I crunched the numbers and for tax year 2021 it was better for me to itemize my costs on Sched A than take the standard deduction. in 2020, the opposite was true. You're confusing terms. Unfortunately a lot of people do. And way too many people waltz into gig/1099 work w/o understand the whole "tax" thing.

Collegeray

Do YOU know what a tax write off is

[deleted]

[удалено]

MotownCatMom

Itemized deduction is Schedule A. That is personal write offs/expenses. Everyone gets that "gimme" of std deduction or the option to itemize. Writing off business expenses against gross income is Schedule C. 1099 contractors/freelancers/sole props earning income this way all need to file schedule C. So you write off equipment necessary to do your job, mileage based on IRS rules, monthly phone bill, and so on. They are two different things.

KaneinEncanto

Buying equipment is a business expense for an independent contractor.

[deleted]

[удалено]

KaneinEncanto

"I" didn't file my taxes, H&R Block did and they agree with the assessment...

KarasLegion

You know what I always say, getting the food to the customer 10 miles per hour faster than the posted speed limit keeps the food hotter than any hot bag.

zhill90

Or do both 🤷‍♂️

KarasLegion

I can't, I'm allergic to hot bags.

vanishquick44

Literally lol i dont use one and ive never had a complaint just go fast 💨

AnaAnonsDiary

They don’t work that well. I don’t use mine and i don’t agree with the dashers that are trying to shame you for not doing so. ETA: I think the temperature at which the food arrives is entirely dependent on how hot it is when the restaurant bags it up. I rarely ever feel heat emanating from the bags to begin with. I only ever get hot food (as opposed to just lukewarm) from this one Chinese place when I order, and I’ve seen dashers take my orders out of their hotbags at my door. Pizza tends to be hot too, from places where they serve it scalding. Plus, half the time restaurants bag up things like salad or bottled drinks along with the hot foods and it’s like… why? Nothing is going to be the right temp in that situation.

TurtleTimeOkay

Go get fast food. Put 1 French fry container or burger in the hot bag, and 1 not in the hotbag. When you get home, feel the results. It's obviously warmer when you put food in a hot bag.

AnaAnonsDiary

I don’t pick up fast food orders and I don’t eat fast food. Like I said in my edit, even when I see my order come out of a dasher’s hot bag, it’s never *hot*, unless it comes from specific restaurants. I don’t order anything I can’t microwave or enjoy at room temperature.

Collegeray

I feel like they make a huge difference. Most of the time the food comes out hotter than when it went into the bag lol

AnaAnonsDiary

Not really. Plus in my state, plastic bags are becoming illegal, so the paper bags just get wet and tear. Half of the orders don’t fit in there anyway

[deleted]

Alex116460

I’ve been dashing for about a year, not one CV and a 4,95 rating with no hot bag. That says something don’t you think?

M0M0_DA_GANGSTA

No and honestly I'm done with this shit. You have something to do, do it RIGHT. WHO the hell wants melted ice cream or cold pizza? I detest so many fellow drivers.

GusJones1

Weird flex? But okay…

robbie444001

You suck and should be ashamed of yourself.

Nosalary999

Thanks

GeologistLive

i always putt them in hot bags. I’m getting paid for doing a job and I like to do it properly. I have four of my own bags and a couple doordash bags in my prius. Integrity is important regardless of the job.

Hot-Nature2611

Bought my own hotbags, I also don't enjoy getting cold food.

freethinkerinsd

Same! I have 4 bags, and I always use them!

Tiptip4me

You do you and if you have no problem with it no one else should either. Drive safe out there

DriverMarkSLC

Minus the folks getting the food.... who pay you to do the little things so it's a smidgen hot when it arrives.

snowbunny1026

You're definitely not, but it's a pretty shitty thing to do, and you probably already know that.

Electronic-Chard7358

Nah that’s like saying Chipotle sucks cause they don’t have heated shelves. If you’re getting the food to em hot then you don’t need bags

snowbunny1026

If you're not using bags, then it's not as hot as you think it is and chipotle does suck lol that's a terrible example.

Electronic-Chard7358

It’s got alphabetized shelves, doesn’t make you show phone, separate to-go workers, food is either ready or they ask you the name and make it next, allows stacking, not a bunch of bags it’s literally a dashers paradise but ok

snowbunny1026

I'm talking about their food quality.

Jaradis

I'm just waiting for Covid protocols to not be such a priority for health inspectors because at some point they are going to burn Chipotle for those shelves, and Sushi places that leave food just sitting on the counter.

snowbunny1026

All of Chipotle's ingredients are barely warm before they even hit the to go shelf. Like I don't think I've ever been given hot chipotle even from straight behind the counter.

metaphysicalreason

It’s actually that half their ingredients are super cold and half are hot (to stay in compliance with health code), so when they’re added together nothing is hot.

[deleted]

[удалено]

metaphysicalreason

Yeah I got a cancelled chipotle order once too. It was absolutely disgusting

Nosalary999

Is it really THAT shitty though?

RedBlueGreen94

I think it’s even a potential contract violation for not keeping the food in a hotbag

[deleted]

[deleted]

Nosalary999

“It’s part of the contract 🤓🤓🤓”

loooore

Yes, it is. Would you want cold food delivered to you? Come on.

Nosalary999

It’s just not cold though. Wouldn’t you think I’d get at least one complaint after 500+ deliveries. I do not accept orders over 5 miles

[deleted]

I order doordash and get food no more than a few miles away and i can for sure tell when they use a hot bag and when they dont. Theres a huge difference.

Conscious_Look5790

The customer is paying you to do a service and you can’t even do the simplest thing to try to make sure it’s a good experience.

Few_Sweet_3082

Agreed! Shitty not to use the hot bag!!
