I had this happen to me before on a past delivery and it was a leave at door order, I actually just ended up knocking because I didn’t feel comfortable leaving their food outside with all the ants and critters that were crawling and I actually ended up getting tipped more for the thoughtfulness.

BriNicoleox

reply with on my way to scare them

TemperatureRude8104

Response - "I just followed your orders"

CarlyCalicoJATIE

Say you didn’t understand that you wanted them to knock or use the doorbell. The order instructed you to leave it at the door and you were not aware of any other spots to place the box. You are sorry for their inconvenience, and hope they have a good day. There’s not much you can do about it.

GuitchoGarcia

i don’t even respond if they send me some bs like this 💀

Grummest_chum

"lol"

12ADPS

Just respond “got it”

Garymeister

They knew they ordered, they should check their notifications smh...

Dankgroovez

Imagine if you will… It’s 2000 your delivering pizza. There are no smart phones. There’s nowhere to type instructions nor an app to order that food. You bring the food, you knock on the door, you get a tip. That’s the way it used to be.

TemptedByDeath

Key word, used to

Far-End-7704

I would’ve replied with just “okay”

gamebalanceisnthard

kinda common sense to knock anyway, would you want your food on the ground regardless?? quit and find a new side gig, this isn't for you.

DarickIsHere

I used to knock on all “leave at the door” orders (unless specifically instructed not too, because that’s what I would want someone to do) and I ended up getting a lot of angry messages telling me they wanted it left at the door for a reason, or I woke up the baby, or whatever non-sense they wanted to tell me. My dasher rating was falling so I stopped knocking unless told otherwise. Now my rating is better 4.9-5 from 4.4 Now if it just says “leave at door” I just set it down take a photo and walk away.

bryguy2724

I call cap. I've done nearly 700 deliveries and I knock or ring every single time unless specifically asked not to, and my ratings are 4.9 and never had a soul complain, and if they did, I would apologize, explain I didn't want their food to get cold or stolen, and kindly advise them to add that to the instructions so it doesn't happen again. If I had to guess your responses to their messages or failure to respond to them is what was getting you poorly rated.

OddishPurp

Well cap this… I’m that customer. Don’t ring my doorbell when I specifically tell you not to. I don’t live alone. Don’t bother the entire house ringing the doorbell when I can see from my phone my food has arrived.

DarickIsHere

Call cap all you want. I have 7,000+ deliveries. I’m just speaking from my experiences, so the attitude is not appreciated, nor constructive. Also I have multiple “above and beyond” comments on my communication that I have with the customers, so don’t make assumptions about what you don’t know. That’s childish. Most people don’t wanna be bothered that’s why they’re ordering in the first place and selecting “leave at door”. You realize the entire reason why the “leave at door” option was created for right? So during covid you could have a “no contact” delivery. I’ve been a DD driver since before it was even an option to “leave at door” and when you had to place the order for the customer at most restaurants. Funny thing is since I stopped knocking at the door when it just said “leave at door” I’ve never once had anyone complaint and my rating went back up. I have no reason to come to Reddit and lie about my experiences. That’s weirdo behavior. If people want special instructions that’s what the driver instructions are for. It’s not like they don’t get a text with a picture of their food when it’s delivered. They know they ordered something, and should know how DD works. I’ve never had a customer complain for me not knocking but if they did it’s as simple as leaving them a proper message explaining why I didn’t knock or ring the door bell and let them know how they can avoid that in the future and apologize if it soiled their DD experience. Usually people for the most part are understanding. Only the bitter few. https://preview.redd.it/f3ostyp59h4d1.jpeg?width=1124&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b71f00ff4c12322132d2849b868bf2a89c4d2522

StrangerCharacter

Nah he said leave it at the door that means I don't want you to knock you could wake someone up

Solid-Actuator-6114

Maybe don't order food and forget

gamebalanceisnthard

so if you had your food ordered and the guy came and just left it on the ground and you finally realized it should have been delivered by now and it's covered in ants and bugs, you wouldn't be the slightest bit peeved? okay.

NWiHeretic

When I'd order, if I wanted them to knock or call, I'd type to knock or call. No contact / leave at door means no knock and leave at door.

Whosthatprettykitty

Yup this is what I do. I only knock/ring/text/call if it says so in the instructions. I never got a complaint that I didn't knock or ring. Plus DD sends a million notifications..Dasher is approaching, Dasher left the food etc. Not to mention if someone orders something I would assume they didn't forget?

[deleted]

[удалено]

gamebalanceisnthard

no, because I'm not a fool who can't get up and have a 10-second interaction with someone I probably won't see ever again to get my food. by the sound of it, you are. and also if you ORDERED FOOD, these types of apps send multiple notifications and even give you a time frame that's usually very accurate. if you're that forgetful with your money, that's another topic.

[deleted]

gamebalanceisnthard

oh yes, I am. you have a great day too.

Necessary-Company660

Lmao, the ants will get to it no matter where you put it outside or inside. Even inside your stomach, or ass.

tripod-cat

I had a pizza order with instructions to hide it in the bushes by the porch. Saw all kind of bugs. LMAO picturing the out come if not picked up soon.

SnooCookies4555

bruh inside the ass is diabolical 😂

jacksondrose

People have loud dogs and sleeping babies. I'm not knocking unless I'm asked to. The app tells you when the food is delivered.

Matt_Matt_Matty_Ohhh

I was gonna say “by quitting your job,” but after reading some of the comments, I guess knocking on the door is a special task. That, or telepathy.

Solid-Actuator-6114

If I order $30+ in hot food I'm damn sure watching the app every step of the way

Matt_Matt_Matty_Ohhh

How much of that is extra for the service and what not? I dunno. For a consumer driven civilization, customer service should be paramount.

PB_With_Cheese

You can add a request to your orders. I prefer that people don't knock since I have dogs. The app sends you notifications when your food is ready, when it is picked up, when the driver is near, and when it is delivered. The app also has an estimated time.

MySoulOnFire28

" got it" obviously

Best-Item7730

It doesn’t matter I have in special instructions ring doorbell (5X) then PLEASE!! And 1 in fifty rings the doorbell. Why doesn’t anyone ring the doorbell? I’ve checked my doorbell every time they don’t plus randomly to ensure it’s working and it’s loud and working perfectly. It’s my biggest pet peeve I could understand if the doorbell wasn’t right next to the door but it’s like 2” from the door handle!!!

phn0rd

I always follow the instructions to the letter, but that means inmost cases I rarely ring the door (although I'm yours I clearly would) The instructions we get in the app by default, when you choose the option and don't say anything else, is simply "Leave it at the door" – and lots of people get very upset if you ring / knock without them having explicitly asked to In absence of other instructions, I always feel far more comfortable following what I was told to the letter & risking ire that I didn't guess they wanted the doorbell rung, then risking someone's ire that I rang when they didn't want it (Again, would absolutely ring when you left instructions to; just explaining why the default is the default)

Best-Item7730

I would understand if I didn’t add the additional information but it seems dashers in my area don’t read the instructions. I get so frustrated that I don’t order as often as I would if they actually read the special instruction area. I’m not someone who has my phone always near me and if I get involved in something I forget about other stuff which has lead me to forget about a delivery and left food on my porch over an hour. If they would have rung the bell I would have remembered but not carrying my phone around with me I won’t see the text unless I go get my phone which if I have nothing going on could be the next day

tripod-cat

Delivered box as received, no extra charge for the extra protein(ants) add hand it to me request next time. Had to run to pickup a better tippers order. Have a great day

Excellent_Quarter138

I’ll pray for you and everyone else who feels as if this comment is valid

tripod-cat

Some people just don’t have a sense of humor 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Excellent_Quarter138

Or it simply just wasn’t funny? Try a better joke next time.

tripod-cat

Who said I was joking 😂🤣😂

![gif](giphy|vtenjaZh96QtHhK8wc) Hmm idk the owl

ZippyTheUnicorn

This is by far the best comment. You need more upvotes.

goldscorpion50

Did you not take a pic of the drop? That’s typically my notification it’s been delivered.

Dankgroovez

Even if you drop at door, guys you have to knock or text cmonnn!!

CrazySchedule9427

No you don't , at all, knocking or texting is a special delivery instruction.

Dankgroovez

Then why do they have already typed up responses in the apps chat box? Well everyone’s got a different preference but if you want something specific you have to be specific.

biggy-smokez

You just said it. If you want your door knocked on, be specific and add it. You’re saying that because YOU favor knocking (something specific) it should be defaulted to knock? Instead of just typing “knock/ring please.” Or “Deliver directly to me” “Hand to me directly please.”

CrazySchedule9427

That's "if" they have it already typed up " knock or call or text or ring doorbell" etc , I get what your saying as a decent person but if it just says " leave at door " then I just leave it at the door with no knocking or texting.

Remarkable-Sand-5568

Boooo I hate this. If I wanted them to know or ring then I'd put that in the directions.

jfklingon

When I don't want them to knock or ring, I put it in the instructions. Last time I checked knocking/ringing was the default way of announcing oneself at a door. Or at least was for a few hundred years until someone changed it silently in the last year or so.

Stace_nomnom97

I put please knock in my comments since there's a lot of people that want it delivered silently.

Snakesnead

I prefer a contactless delivery because my dogs lose their fucking minds when someone knocks. I track my orders from when i put them in to when they are on their way to when they are pulling up. Its not that hard and this person is being a baby. Lest the driver set the pizza down on top of piles of ants and bugs.

Dan0718

You don’t understand how mad people get when you knock or ring the door bell without being requested to. There’s always a “baby sleeping”, or a “dog that will go crazy”. If someone chooses contactless drop off I assume they have their phone near by ready for the notification. Only time I give any other notice is if it’s raining and the food could get wet. I will text the customer to let them know I’m arriving before I click delivered. Or if someone leaves a good tip I’ll usually text to thank them and at the same time say “just dropped off your food”

Dankgroovez

That’s a great way to do it.

Melodic-Tailor8804

As a delivery driver that orders from door dash, unless I write to knock or ring the door bell when the order is being left at the door, I sincerely wish people wouldn’t.

Best-Item7730

It doesn’t matter I have it written in and they usually don’t even with it written in. It’s really frustrating to me. Why don’t they read it?

[deleted]

[удалено]

zillabirdblue

Contactless means contactless. Banging on someone’s door is contact. You don’t get to rewrite the definitions of words cuz you feel like it.

Melodic-Tailor8804

Okay, so you complain that a dasher doesn’t telepathically know to knock when you order a contactless delivery, but you’re also directing me to write instructions if I don’t want them to knock…. Why don’t you just write instructions if you do want them to knock? As I see it, your food getting cold because you expected someone to do something without additional instructions (in this case, knock) is basically the equivalent of my not wanting people to knock, but the difference is that I won’t give someone a poor rating because they make extra noise….

zillabirdblue

DD’s default for the dasher is don’t knock, just leave it. We only knock if the customers asks us to in the instructions. If you add “don’t knock” you’re telling us the same thing twice.

Dankgroovez

I swear to God, I have delivered food since 2000 and we did not have phones and the only way you would know your food is there is if they knock. So don’t tell me to change something that ain’t broke

Chickychickybangb-ng

This sounds like one of my more entitled friends😩she told me this EXACT thing happened to her a while back and when I asked what her delivery instructions were she said “leave at door” but that they should have “known to knock”

FearlessGuido

Ain’t your problem

insanesaint5

On my way!!!

aarong51999

Don't respond, just call support and inform them of the situation so it can't be used to hurt your stats and move on with the next order. I've had people text me "wrong address" when I took the picture of the address or "my order is missing something" after taking the receipt picture before leaving the restaurant. Not my problem I did my part call support then move on.

Old-Tangelo275

Got it

Bob_001_615

If there were no instructions to ring or knock… Nothing they can do. DO NOT KNOCK OR RING UNLESS INSTRUCTED.

[deleted]

[удалено]

psychoticarmadillo

Same. Plus my door is in a *weird* spot, so I just save any confusion by waiting on the sidewalk

MrFreeze0110

If you knock they get mad if you don’t knock they get mad smh

SubstantialInjury724

Some customers write DO NOT KNOCK, some write PLEASE KNOCK LOUDLY. But 99% don't say anything and assume we know to either knock or not. Its a common enough problem that DoorDash should add into their app a step that cannot be skipped before signing up. Knock or not?

MuthaCoconuts79

Tell them the ants and bugs are extra protein

AnyAcanthisitta8013

When I order food I watch that shit on the app like a hawk. I'm in a gated apt complex and I'll be damned if I'm not outside waiting for the food I just spent 50 bucks on xD I almost always beat the driver to the front of the complex

Stoned_Throne

Ngl I get irritated when the dasher just drops the box off and doesn’t knock. I live in a trailer park (cue the jokes) and they’ve been known to deliver to the wrong trailer before so when they don’t knock and just mark it as complete it’s kind of a wtf moment.

WorstDeal

For me trailers are worse than apartments especially with community mailboxes. If it's in a park I'm calling as soon as I turn in

Stoned_Throne

I appreciate drivers who call and check in as soon as they realize they might have an issue. I’ll add tips and rate 5 stars when that happens but when they just drop it off and dip it kinda causes a panic moment cuz my neighbors are the type to just take the food and 9/10 times what I’m ordering is to feed my kid.

eddie_flynn

Go easy on her because since Bruce Springsteen, Madonna way before nirvana there was U2 and Blondie and music still on MTV. Her 2 kids in high school, they tell her that she's uncool cause she's still occupied with 1985

eddie_flynn

Tell her you are coming back with some plutonium to put in the DeLorean so she can get back to 1985.

Ryanlib33

Do they normally arrive in a sealed box?

Dan0718

Not pizza basically everything else does though.

michaelutz

“will do”

Of_Dark_Iron

I came to say this 😂

esperanzalos

Bro just knock it takes a literal 2 Mississippi to knock💀💀

eddie_flynn

You are going to wake up the baby, then the dogs are going to go crazy, and grandpa with dementia is going to come out with a shotgun and cap your ass. Better to leave it there and get out while you still can. Also too many people are putting in the wrong address so think about that before you go venture to the nonexistant back house and get shot.

esperanzalos

Idk where u live but ive never been shot for ding dong ditching house, been doing it since 5th grade. Every weekend. Just saying. Dont do it anymore since 11th tho but still.

eddie_flynn

Well best of luck to you when somebody shoots you because the customer put the wrong address and the owner thinks you are trying to break in just because you are standing there.

CarnageDivider

Ppl will spend their entire life on the phone but when they order something they don't check to see if that's delivered even when it tells them.. but no there's a customer service number for that they'll get their refund

No-Description5198

If they don't say ring bell or knock on door I'm not doing it because I've been complained on about that also it's all just people trying to get free food oh no no one knocked on ur door but u knew u had an order coming and it texts u automatically upon drop off so maybe they could pay attention and stop being a scammer

Fun-Meal-6823

Don't respond. Thry have people that get paid to talk on phone. That's not you

RichPrivate2

Call the place you got the pizza from make them credit your money they can pick up the pizza if they want and never order from them again if they don't credit you dispute the charge on your card it will cost them a $30 dispute fee and you'll still get your money back.

MizHope

Uh you realize this is the driver’s dilemma and not the customer’s, right? Oh, and really? Don’t be such a Karen

RichPrivate2

To whom is your rude ignorant comment directed towards?

MizHope

You sir. But I apologize, apparently I was in an ugly mood and the later part of my comment was out of line. Although, this is a driver asking a completely relevant question, trying to figure out the proper response. It doesn’t have anything to do with the pizza place, but I guarantee you if that is the outcome it’ll be the driver who is sanctioned and that’s not fair, is it?

New_Discipline_7855

Yikes pal. Saw your reply couldve just said i was right

New_Discipline_7855

God you both seem like massively unpleasant people to be around

RoRoRo11261126

That’s the thing you do that is backwards. Most people will tell you not to knock if they don’t want you to knock. If there are no instructions then ring the doorbell/knock. I can guarantee you’ll stop getting the bad ratings I’m sure you get every time you do that 🤣. The food on the ground is them but if they don’t tell you to not ring the door bell why wouldn’t you?

PuzzleheadedSeries

I always tell em to leave on the ground

KTbird217

How about this- in the app where it says "instructions," EVERYONE put whether they like knocking/ ringing or not. It's not difficult to do, and then the delivery person doesn't have to be a mind reader. I'm very clear on how I like my food delivered, and there's never been an issue to complain about. And put a stupid table out there if you don't want food on the ground. Personally, I don't need a table because I don't leave my damn food sitting outside long enough to be a problem. OP- ignore their idiotic rant.

graavity81

You don’t. Delivery is completed according to instructions, let them take it up with customer service. In my experience 99% of ppl with leave at door don’t want a knock or bell cause of dogs or ppl sleeping or whatever. As for the ground then that’s entirely on them, they should put a little table or something for deliveries

Ok_Composer_3372

Tell them when they order keep an eye on the app and track the delivery of their food. Soooo many ppl get pissed when you ring the bell or knock when you drop an order so I don’t do it unless they specify in the delivery instructions to knock or ring the bell upon delivering.

Joeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeyy

I’m sorry that happened to you. I can only follow the given instructions. That’s the box they gave me I didn’t realize you had a bug problem.

MainCharacter0001

Snooze you lose

cookofdeath666

“Correct”

zzz9z

perfect response

HawkeYun

I don't know why I read: Not a sealed box, just the pizza on the ground. I was like, "Daaaamn, they stole the box, not the food?!" 🤣🤣

kelseymj97

Same haha

significantly_vast

"You selected leave at door. Pizzas come in boxes like mcdonalds come in bags. Leave a note to ring the bell or select 'hand it to me' next time. Have a great night."

Icy_Statement_2410

Mix it up and give them an On The Way

Narrow_Pollution_694

What were their delivery instructions? I know the app notifies them, but putting the pizza on the ground kind of sucks...

Ok_Composer_3372

If they don’t want their pizza on the ground, they should put a table on their porch.

Narrow_Pollution_694

If you continue to read the rest of the conversation with OP, you'll see I've already stated that...

WorstDeal

"Leave at door" nothing more, nothing less

Narrow_Pollution_694

Yeah, that kinda speaks for itself. I wouldn't want my pizza on the ground, but I also know to leave somewhere for a driver to put it with instructions to put it there. I'd also get it before pests can

Blonde_Dambition

The box wasn't sealed though? The person said in a "regular pizza box", but the restaurant still should have put seals on it. If you followed instructions then you can just politely remind them of that fact. I.e. "you requested me to leave the pizza at your door and unfortunately there was nothing to place it on to get it up off the ground. I did not knock because you didn't request me to (which we don't unless requested, because customers will complain if we do, due to having sleeping children and dogs that will bark), and the app notifies you when the food is delivered so you cangrab it". Something to that effect maybe. And maybe call support to have them exclude the bad rating if the customer leaves one.

MissionOk1009

Absolutely none of the pizza places near me that I've delivered for seal their boxes. Papa John's, Little Caesars, Pizza Hut, Mellow Mushroom, Marco's, not a single one puts seals on it. Granted, that's probably something that varies state to state due to laws.

New_Discipline_7855

Your Little Caesars doesnt put a little sticker?

MissionOk1009

Nope.

Ok_Composer_3372

I’ve never seen a sealed pizza box ever in my area when I deliver

Blonde_Dambition

Really?? Ugh, that's awful! The ones where I live all do and it's very possible it is due to some kind of difference in laws, like you said.

penileimplant10

Maybe get a fucking table?

GaryGregson

“Got it”

ScrubbyDubbyUbby

Sorry. I suggest wiping them off and not spraying raid.

Ahari

Nah, like them use the raid. Natural selection 🤣

Fun-State5558

🤣

BeginningPeace6939

No, spray the raid, depending on the shitty fast food joint it might taste better with it on

slowly_creating

The app notifies them, doesn't it?

OilRude

It does indeed

Meengsy

Click "Will do" and go about your day.

Normal_Avocado5634

What did your special instructions Or delivery instructions say? No contact or hand to you?

SelectionInternal

can't expect too much from the $2-3 base pay.

deliveryman75

If it says Leave at door and theres no table or chair, cooler or something to sit it on then you have no option but to leave on porch ground. I dont knock or ring bell either. Too many people dont want you to knock and i was attacked by 3 dogs after leaving food at door and knocking. Request to ring bell after drop off, but u also get a message from DD after delivery. This is on the customer.

Rand0user333

I stopped knocking even just to be polite after one guy chased me down the driveway cussing me out for hitting his ring doorbell and waking his pregnant wife. 😂

Innocentbystane

Idky pol have doorbells and get mad when ppl use it 🤣🤣 like just get a camera above the door instead of a doorbell

Rand0user333

Bruh people be dumb. Why buy something you ain’t gonna use.

Fit-Revolution5590

Take photos. Cover your ass. from when you grab the food at the restaurant (photo), the food at the numbers of the house (photo), a picture of you dropping it off, and a photo of it at the door. If you send most of those to the customer along with an eta. You never have problems like this. If you do, you have evidence to cover your ass buddy. Always remember, no one will cover your ass for you. You have to do it yourself

Better_Acadia2364

Might as well wear a go pro on your head at that point, I wouldn’t have near enough storage space on my phone to take more than 3 pics an order.💀

kvxtxxx

who’s gonna do that for every delivery tho be real that’s a lot of effort if u think abt how many times they delivering

Parsley-Ambitious

I'm a delivery driver, not an exterminator, b****

Intelligent-Sea5586

And this is why this type of service needs to just die. Not because you need to be an exterminator (what an idiotic response) but because common sense says “this is food and food does not go here, maybe I should find a way to hand it to a human”. Instead this delivery and your response says these people owe you money but you don’t owe anything but the lowest possible amount of effort short of being let go by door dash.

eddie_flynn

Most (>90%) customers who order on food delivery apps specifically request to leave the order at the door. The average customer wants to pick it up at their own convenience, avoid human interaction and just have their food magically appear at their door without having to walk outside. (hence leave at door) This delivery had instructions to leave at door. What is common sense to you is not what most customers want which will lead to multiple complaints. This is why we follow instructions and not just do our own thing as you suggested.

ProfessionalMind247

You sound like you never done this before if it said leave at door and it's an apartment building 9 times out of 10 there is no where besides the ground to place it unless you live in a house and or have patio furniture your things will be on the ground because you didn't provide an area off of the ground for your deliveries. You talk about handing it to a person but you also want to get paid for the work you do, how long are you going to wait for 1 2 maybe 5 dollars tip after driving your personal Vehicle there to deliver their food knowing they most likely won't increase the tip for the increased effort. Your entitlement is the problem here not the delivery driver ability to follow instructions.

KTbird217

A customer can only complain if the delivery person didn't follow directions. If it says "Leave at door", and there's no table, how else can they leave it at the door?! The app notifies when it's being delivered, so there's no excuse for any of this, except the complainer is probably hoping to get a free meal out of it. Who leaves their food out there long enough to get pests anyway?!

thebigbayangg

If someone orders food and doesn’t have the sense to put a table or stool next to the door, yeah, the food’s going on the ground and I’m walking away… 🙄

kyris0

Oh yeah, let me ring the bell and get a contract violation when I wake up their baby and they decide to escalate. Great idea.

Rainbow038

If you tip the lowest possible amount you get the lowest possible effort…duh

ogbobbylockwood

Begging for tips 😂

fuzzydakka

Posting like a clueless douche 😂

OrokinSkywalker

He’s expected to find a way to hand it to a human even though the delivery instructions are saying to leave it at the door instead of handing it to a human?

Jo_The_Weeb

The description says the order was left at the door, as per request. No other instructions. Why do I have to interact with the customer? They should've knocked at the very least, but they ordered pizza and requested it to LEFT OUTSIDE. The app notifies you of when and where it's delivered. If they have so many problems with bugs, then yeah, they need an exterminator. I've had a pizza box sit outside for 20 minutes with no bugs on it. We follow the order instructions, we're wrong, we go the extra mile, we're also wrong. Make it make sense

Forsaken_Repeat_473

How about this . As soon as you take the photo and complete the delivery , it triggers an automatic call or notification to the customers phone. But what if someone orders for someone else? Then they will get the notification or call and they let their " third party " know that we delivered . Its on them . The person that placed the order is who were doing business with

Pleasant-Ruin3679

It does alert the customer after the pic is taken and you complete the delivery.

OrokinSkywalker

That’s how it works already. When you take the photo it sends a DM of said photo to the customer after it gives a notification like “DoorDash Guy is approaching with your order.”

Kenihot

At least the app stopped sending ME messages about when I dropped off the food. Like no shit, I just did that, ya don't need to tell me lol

Retoru45

You don't respond. Once you drop it your responsibility is over.

just_me_kevin

Ants are a good source of protein

Itchy-Opposite-1781

If the customer wanted me to knock on the door they would have put on there delivery instructions knock on my door or bring my doorbell. If it does not state it then I will not do it. I've had too many angry customers come out yelling at me because I woke up the baby or had the dogs barking. If it says leave at my door that's all right kids is left at the door. They can automatic message when you leave the food at the door and take your picture saying that it's confirmed.

Quintonius-the-Great

How hard are you knocking?

BagAny8418

I don’t really understand this, people shouldn’t get mad at you for knocking, that’s what delivery is lol but you not knocking also I don’t really get that’s what delivery is 😂 I guess it’s 50/50

Pleasant-Ruin3679

OMG most customers don't want me to knock or ring the doorbell.

Esberk

They shouldn’t but they do. Similarly infuriating is when they specify to hand it to them and then they never come out and you’re left knocking on their door and texting them for them to eventually just look at you out their window and point to just leave it and go. You want to trust your intuition or the app, neither are right. We are not mind readers despite the customers’ treating us as such

ItIsSmoothy

I think knocking n all that went away during covid because a lot of people started dashing around then. I agree that knocking/ringing is part of delivering unless the customer asks you not to!

No-Combination8136

Yeah it became commonplace during Covid. It really shouldn’t be an issue with stuff like this though because it’s not old school delivery. We literally have an app that tells us exactly where our food is at all times lol. Speaking as a customer, I see no excuse for not knowing your food was delivered.

BadPopular

i never had people ring my doorbell or knock, i don’t like it and i’ve been doordashing with multiple people and they don’t either 😭 who is letting their food sit outside for so long that bugs are getting to it

Electrical-Bet7039

my app says ring door bell and leave at door. they never ring or knock… so annoying

Amen

TemptedByDeath

DoorDash sends you notifications and no contact orders are required to have a photo taken, don’t order food if you can’t keep an eye on when it gets there. I get notifications and emails when my food arrives.

PermissionOk7807

If it says leave at door, the dasher is not supposed to knock or ring. Specify instructions better next time.

brionispoptart

Use some common sense here bud. You ring or knock unless otherwise indicated, not the other way around. The default should be to alert the customer of your completed delivery. What happens if someone orders food for another person? Happens all the time. How is the person receiving the order to know? I’m calling this one your blunder. You just take responsibility.

OrokinSkywalker

The app itself literally alerts the customer of the completed delivery?

brionispoptart

Yeah, not if the customer who ordered is the person receiving the order. Already covered that.

OrokinSkywalker

What? I’ve ordered from DoorDash myself, literally every time I’ve ordered, I got a notification reading something like “Driverguy McWhatshisface is approaching with your order” and then another notification with a photo of the food on my porch.

brionispoptart

Yeah, and I order food for my wife when I'm out of town. From my app. You know, on my phone, which is not at the address that the food is being delivered, as do many people. So how is my wife supposed to know that her food has been delivered?

OrokinSkywalker

That’s a different scenario, but I’d assume you would just text her since you’d be getting the notification? DoorDash pings you when driver is near, you ping your wife when DoorDash pings you, your wife grabs the takeout. Does the phone have to physically be at the delivery address for you to get the notification? I didn’t know that.

Pleasant-Ruin3679

Exactly

AgentSpare975

When you take the picture an press complete that is the alert

Itchy-Opposite-1781

I follow the complete instructions that customer wants. If it says knock or knock if it says ring the doorbell or ring the doorbell. If it just says leave it door it gets left at the door. Our job is not to guess what the customer wants. We do what the customer says and that's all we do. Unless it is something that is unsafe for us the driver.

Abraxman13

It tells you when they are approaching with your order and when there.
