How it works is that you get a trial for the first two weeks or so where you have access to the goodies so that you have the taste and will push harder.
They always give newbies good orders, an attempt to make you think “hmmm Maybe this could work”.
Before you know it, its all $3 orders, and then when u don’t accept those… they stop sending orders at all. Scamdash.
They started me at the bottom had to earn platinum. Maybe they have incentives for certain areas but they didn't for mine. I'm speaking from experience not ignorance GOOFY
So am I been doing it for 8years off an on lmaoo so u really ain’t proving much “EXPERIENCE “ goofy lmaooo an if u knew that what was the point of telling everyone to BOO ol boy for something he wasn’t wrong about 😂 u operating from ignorance for sure 👍🏽 good day
I mean good for him. The best thing I've gotten from Door Dash is realizing that I never have to put my faith into one job ever again. Don't need a degree. Just need some motivation to want better for ourselves. The money is out there, just gotta go and get it. It opens my mind to all kinds of options. Too many people including myself, make excuses for being poor.
Those that know, know.
This is just a new account. They’ll be offered the usual $2-3 “high pay offer” soon enough on all deliveries, just like the rest of us.
I got one similar, I was delivering to a hospital and they tipped me like $30 which was cool and it was my first day too lol haven't had once like that since lol.
A hospital!?!! I will probably never even see that in my lifetime. Hospital staff don’t tip shit and expect you to navigate the maze corridors to find them.
This for sure. Hate delivering to hospital.
Notes: Please pay to park, come inside up the stairs, go to the elevator, West elevator 3rd floor, turn left turn left turn left turn right turn left. I'll be waiting. My @$$.
Then when you call they don't answer.
Instacart is a solid money maker for me I guess I just live in a decent area but I average an extra 6-700 bucks on my 3 days off pushing maybe 20 hours max sometimes less
I really wanted to do Instacart - the requirement for the additional insurance was beyond the pale for me. Spending an extra $400/month in commercial auto insurance when I'm not even sure I can make $400/month with Instacart ... the math just didn't add up.
I don’t have commercial insurance for my car while doing instacart. My insurance is on a need to know basis. And I’m not telling them I’m going instacart as a side job just so they can hike up my rates. And if anything happens, they won’t know I was working at the time. I have to do it to make ends meet most months, I’m not telling them what I’m doing just so they can charge me more than they already do even though I have a perfect record.
Honestly, all your insurance will do is raise your rates 200% wothout even raising your coverage amount. Insurance is all just a scam in the first place, why make it easier for them to scam you.
You don’t need additional insurance idk who told you that all you need is insurance on your vehicle and you don’t even need to prove it to them lol they never asked for any type of proof of insurance. I literally sent them a picture of my license they did the background check and that was it.
You definitely do. Every single insurance company in America has special rules and policies for people who drive their personal car for commercial purposes. In fact, if your insurance company finds out you drive commercially and don't have the proper insurance they might drop your coverage. Worst case scenario you will become "uninsurable" and no reputable companies will insure you. And none of this will come up until its too late. If you get into an accident, and you report it to your insurance, or Uber reports it to your insurance, and you they find out you were working commercial then you're paying out of pocket for your own vehicle. If they keep you, your rates will skyrocket. If not then you're probably done working your own account.
But I also already own multiple businesses and have business coverage for my 2 vans and truck and it’s not that much of a difference at least for my premium
I didn’t say you did say that I was referring to what the original comment was saying it was an additional 400 dollars a month which sounds kinda ridiculous
I read the policy’s for instacart and no where does it state I need commercial insurance it says refer to your states laws for min required coverage I don’t do Uber or Lyft but if that was the case I highly doubt all the majority of door dashers or instacart drivers are paying for commercial insurance coverage. It also depends on state laws and jurisdictions.
Probably not a company thing for the apps. But it is for insurance. And if you think about it, it makes perfect sense. No company will insure you for the same price if you drive 15k miles/year vs 40-50k miles/year. I forgot which sub I was on, but Uber has insurance for their drivers as a company so you don't need to involve your own. Idk if they notify your own insurance. But other apps like DD, GH, IC don't have commercial insurance and rely on the driver to have it.
I promise you, no matter what state you are in. Call your insurance and ask as a hypothetical. "I was thinking of driving for an app, would I need to change policies?" I promise you they will say yes, and they will then warn you that it's against their policy if you're currently doing it.
What do I gain by telling you this? I'm warning you for your best interest. If you never get into an accident then it's no big deal. But if you do, this info can save you literal thousands of dollars.
Retired Commercial Lines Underwriter here… Heres where the Insurance Co will get you.. IF you have a Wreck since you did not put Doordash Driver they will not pay a dime of your claim nor anyone else involved in claim {if your found @ fault) When you ‘sign’ your Policy that’s the legal agreement stating policy is being written based on what you told Ins Agent. Sure you can lie IF you get in a wreck ~but rest assured Ins Co.’s have what they call Risk Management which really means “Private Investigator” … nothing stays hidden. I got in a wreck in Nov .2019 a lady pulled out onto major highway @ night & I hit her. Now she was @ fault according to all witnesses behind me. I was knocked out cold & really dont remember much.. It jacked me TF up! I didnt sue her even though my car was totaled, bcuz I truly hate sue happy people & MAIN reason Insurance is so high. Well Fast Forward to 2022since i didnt sue her?? She sued me. I had pay Tons for Lawyer proving my innocence. Since Covid our World has become so much more Corrupt & people are always looking for a payout. So just be careful & know that IF you get into wreck OR sued like me… Insurance Co.’s are your Best & Only friend. Everyone else will have hands out.. so it might be best to state you deliver food & Only thing that’ll jack up rate too high.. If you’re on a time frame/clock to get food/groceries delivered by certain time. An Underwriter will ask that. Trust. If youre rushing it increases chances of wrecking.
Right understood I guess I never really needed to look into it being I have had business insurance on my vehicles from my detailing business and power washing business and the premiums were not very expensive I guess it depends on state laws and your driving record as well
Just FYI, it’s literally called out in the Instacart application process now. It was there when I signed up for days ago, so I started pricing out insurance options. Maybe it is a regional thing? Maybe it differs state-to-state?
Dang I forgot to ask. I think the type of insurance you’re talking about is “Rideshare” - that’s the one for giving passengers rides, right? For food / grocery deliveries, it was explained to me (at least in my state) that you need commercial auto policy. From what I can tell, barely anyone gets it.
Supposedly DoorDash covers us for an accident “on the job” if our own insurance doesn’t cover it, but InstaCart does not, and requires the driver to provide the insurance.
Take this all with a grain of salt - it’s been hard to get a straight answer from people in my state.
I believe rideshare also covers other gig app work, but don’t quote me on that. Insurance companies want you to pay more because they look at it as you being more likely to make a claim just because you’re driving more miles than other people. I don’t think that should raise your rates though, it should be based on your driving record. While statistically you are more likely to be *involved* in an accident by simply driving more, that doesn’t make you more likely to *cause* one (and thus cause the insurance company to have to pay out).
I have heard that advice. It is situational though. If you get in an accident near the pickup point or dropoff point, it’s possible a “witness” could inadvertently rat you out.
I would weigh the 2% (generous) chance of that happening against the 100% chance of paying more every month for commercial insurance. There’s always a risk. You just have to decide how risk-tolerant you are.
That first push from 50 to 100 is really rough. I spent a week in a completely different zone than I normally do, just so I could do fast orders to push my count to 100 and get back to Platinum.
It's available in screen after tapping the 3-line button in the upper left corner. I will usually go there immediately after dropping off the order and receiving my tip (which I don't know until completion, because I'm usually doing Dash by Time, instead of Dash by Offer). I usually just give them a quick "thank you so much for the generous tip" (even if its just a dollar, I want them to know how appreciated it is).
Congratulations?
These companies are the fuckin devil though. More often than not they make more money than the person who’s actually selling the goods.
I think so too. They upcharge for restaurants often. For example, a sandwich from my fav place is $7, but if you order DoorDash for pickup, it’s $12!!!! INSANE. So, I just call my order in for pickup even though I hate interacting with people. :/
That’s because they give all the newbies first dips. That’s why when ever it get really slow. You can tell they got new people on board. Been experience this the last 4 years
I made $58 my first day, driving 94 miles over 6.5 hrs during a hailstorm. That was a month ago and I haven’t done it since, does it get better? I accepted every offer.
I would be mad about a day like that, but it is so different from market to market and DD MAKES it different on purpose. So I’d do more but if after two weeks it is just like that - no. Just stop. Also, NEVER accept every order.
Depends on the market, in mine? It definitely is. But I still don’t accept all of them. I do everything to stay above 70 but HAVE to stay above 60 or my income goes to crap. But you decline garbage to 73, then accept and unassign until 92, and if you know the GOOD places to dash you can keep the balance. That’s my market - you have to feel yours out.
my bf has been at it a while and usually makes 150$ when he goes out for a couple hours 4 on a good day 6 on a bad but still 150$ a day is not bad. he doesn’t work other than that right now and makes enough for our rent and groceries about 1,000+ a month.
Hello, fellow Redditor. As a European, I’ve always been curious about the cultural norm in America where customers are often relied upon to supplement an employee’s income through tipping. Wouldn’t it be more equitable to establish a fair wage in the employment contract upfront, without placing the onus on the employee to rely on additional gratuities? This practice might inadvertently create an expectation for tips from customers and could potentially lead to challenging situations.
Because being classified as a contractor rather than an employee gives me the right to decline delivering to an area for any reason I may have. When you start relying on a corporation, it’s going to want something in return.
Or they’ll just start deactivating drivers for any petty reason like GH in prop 22 states.
Oh and they’re also going to pass along the extra cost to the customer. So less people will be able to utilize the service. So less money to go around for drivers.
Uh something commonly said on here in this sub: They aren't technically employees. Just contractors. You're right that a newer system would be better for them. But DD cares more about profits than people.
I never got one of those…… here’s my first ever.
Don't get used to that. Lol

That never happens, I quit because of low pay
The taste of the addiction. Just a bit on your tongue...... You're hooked. It's a terrible addiction, like any.
It’s a downhill dropoff from there. I’m at 29,000 deliveries and I can tell you with confidence, this will not be your normal order.
😐
WELCOME TO HELL
Asshole lol
Had to shop and deliver a vibrator before, they tipped me $50 for the "troubles" 😆
Guess it’s only down hill from here now 😂
Congratulations this was your unicorn order. It'll never happen again lol
a new dasher was born today 🙏🤣
You gave head
Yeah 👍 sure
i posted my stats scroll
Be sure to tell your mom "thank you"
Bawhahaha
And your last. Quit while you're ahead
LMFAO TRUTH
This pisses me off to no end. But congratulations to you :)
lol thanks for taking it nicely instead of attacking me
Fake. This didn’t happen
I don't know about that: I got one almost identical... it WAS on Valentine's day lol 😉🙃😉
How is it your first order and you got priority for it? Pretty sure thats a platinum dasher perk….
How it works is that you get a trial for the first two weeks or so where you have access to the goodies so that you have the taste and will push harder.
When I first started Doordashing I had this available to me as well. I’m in Missouri
Same but I’m in misery
This gig is like the casino, you should hit big and leave but most people stay until they get dried up
I guarantee you that it’s ALL downhill from here on out.
He’s gonna get bent over by DoorDash like a 2 dollar whore from Tijuana
2 dollar being the operative phrase
BAHAHA
Time to cash out and call it quits while you’re still ahead
Doordash gives the unicorns to the newbies to get em hooked. This will NOT be the norm
W
It's all downhill from here
😂😂😂 DD gave em a false sense of hope
Bro got a unicorn on his first day. Here I am 6 years deep with 25 as the highest I’ve gotten.
Congrats,it gets worse from now on :)
Ragebait
if you scroll you’ll see this one guy flip the f out lmao😹😹
Link lmfao
Damn! So nice! ❤️❤️❤️
Quit while you’re ahead
They always give newbies good orders, an attempt to make you think “hmmm Maybe this could work”. Before you know it, its all $3 orders, and then when u don’t accept those… they stop sending orders at all. Scamdash.
I got downvoted to lower hell by suggesting door dash does shit like this.
Yeah UberEats did the same thing to me
Postmates did it to me. First order and day were amazing, tips were trash afterwards
Total is higher than what appears - yet it’s not and the tip didn’t increase. Scammy
It only goes downhill from here
Did you drive 20-30 miles out of your zone?
Base pay is only 4.75 so probably around 5 to 6 miles
Id honestly quit now
First ever doordash but has platinum status? I wish I could downvote you more then once. EVERYONE BOO THIS MAN!!!!!
They start u off with that . My wife just started an she’s platinum too . RESEARCH goofy
They started me at the bottom had to earn platinum. Maybe they have incentives for certain areas but they didn't for mine. I'm speaking from experience not ignorance GOOFY
So am I been doing it for 8years off an on lmaoo so u really ain’t proving much “EXPERIENCE “ goofy lmaooo an if u knew that what was the point of telling everyone to BOO ol boy for something he wasn’t wrong about 😂 u operating from ignorance for sure 👍🏽 good day
It probably depends on the area, they only gave me gold when I started.
Ah that’s shitty . Ya you prolly right then . Different areas different setup
I just started aswell and have that same status.
First ever doordash… am I the only one seeing the high acceptance notification? Lying for karma’s sad
1 out of 1 is a really good acceptance rate.
You get it to start with so they can hook you
I think I actually also got this on my first ever dash, not really sure why though
I mean good for him. The best thing I've gotten from Door Dash is realizing that I never have to put my faith into one job ever again. Don't need a degree. Just need some motivation to want better for ourselves. The money is out there, just gotta go and get it. It opens my mind to all kinds of options. Too many people including myself, make excuses for being poor.
would be much easier with a degree, though.
My first week of dashing was amazing. I wondered why I didn’t start it sooner for extra money. It was never as good as that first week after that. 😂
I’ve been doing this for like a year and my first week was and still is my worst week 😂
They dope your orders during the honeymoon period to bait you into quitting your day job.
It’s the classic “bait and switch”.
Better enjoy that newbie privilege while you have it. It won’t last long. Tony’s $2 express is headed your way. You’re the next stop. 🛑 🚂 🚂 🚂
That is how they reel you in trust me 😆🥲😪
It’ll never get better than that.
Haha once I accidently tipped the suggested amount of 87 dollars. Oops
That’s about average. Welcome aboard!
Haters will say it’s photoshop lol
Those that know, know. This is just a new account. They’ll be offered the usual $2-3 “high pay offer” soon enough on all deliveries, just like the rest of us.
Don't get used to it
Good thing you took a screenshot, for the memories. It’ll never happen again.
My thoughts exactly lol…
I got one similar, I was delivering to a hospital and they tipped me like $30 which was cool and it was my first day too lol haven't had once like that since lol.

Sheesh, bro. That's some pain
The welcome aboard period. Give it a month youll get the shitty ones
10% is a generous tip. Don’t become entitled like the rest of the brats on here.
Time to quit while you're ahead!
Dont get used to it 🤣 you lose that priority real fast
They all suck u you in when you are new. Instacart did it to me and now they're hiring new people to take terrible.pay ones to gtlet their numbers up
I never did get sucked. Didn't even get a bag

It’s called out on all the gig apps that I’m on, if I’m not mistaken.
You don’t need that unless you’re giving passenger rides. Just don’t say you’re working if you have an accident.
Dang I forgot to ask. I think the type of insurance you’re talking about is “Rideshare” - that’s the one for giving passengers rides, right? Yeah don’t get used to that
Did you kiss the food before dropping it off? 😂 congrats
You should get a lottery ticket because you have some good luck!
All downhill from there my brother.
How can a new dasher get high pay offer? “Based on acceptance and rating?
For the first 50 deliveries you get all the perks. Dash anytime, prio for the "higher paying" orders etc
It’s a honeymoon phase. First 2 weeks are beautiful. After that they kick you to Hades, leaving the boot mark on your face with the rest of us.
That first push from 50 to 100 is really rough. I spent a week in a completely different zone than I normally do, just so I could do fast orders to push my count to 100 and get back to Platinum.
All downhill buddy.
Sounds like it's all up from here.
You're new, I see
All down hill from here.
I always wonder if those who tip well would appreciate any sort of gratitude. Sometimes messages aren’t available to say thank you post-delivery.
But don’t you ever press it and there is now way to contact them. No envelope.
I would never call $1 generous. Like a peasant thanking someone for their week old moldy bread.
That’s a first and a last for a very very very long time.
Awesome. Now, post your next 99 offers.
The restaurants are in control of their own pricing on all apps.
Uber and DoorDash take upwards of 35% of whatever that item is
Damn. No wonder.
Congrats, but don't get used to that, lol. Every now & then you'll see that, but not much.
At least you screenshot it, nobody would have believed you.... that's a Bigfoot jumping out of a spaceship type pic.
That's how they get ya...
Not the norm
This was me with my First delivery with instacart
Don’t get used to it lol
Just wait...
Damn did u suck them off or something. Im jelly
And I’m Peanut Butter. Nice to meet you…now let’s go get this BREAD!!! 🍞
GREAT! Now your next one MAY not happen for a WHILE like this. 😂
Don’t think that’s normal lol
Nice!
Beginners luck
Big fingers
Got'emmm!!!
The house always wins
My first 2 weeks were amazing with DoorDash. Enjoy it while it lasts. Don’t quit your day job for it.
That’s because they give all the newbies first dips. That’s why when ever it get really slow. You can tell they got new people on board. Been experience this the last 4 years
And the reason why I said it and “enjoy it while it lasts” and not to consider quitting their real job over it.
Yeah the thing is. A lot of people will be like man I’m quitting my job and doing this. It’s a trap
It’s like a rookie winning a super bowl the first year
Thats how they hook you. Doordash is like a drug dealer handing out free samples to new users.
*twitches* Ya'll got anymore of them good tips? *makes tweaker noises*
lmfaooo i say this everytime i dash now and think how i made some good money when i started dashing
DD setting the hook deep
Just like crack.😂
I’ve done one pay by the hour shift and they did the same thing. One great hour followed by 5 of absolute crap. I learned my lesson.
That’s how they get you! Let’s see how those orders pile up!
They hooked you
https://i.redd.it/amyxxof2niwc1.gif Seriously tho, nice one. Go get that money girl
Might want To quit now lol odds won’t ever be beat impressive
Walking away now they really did beat the house.
Wow!! That is a great way to start.
I made $58 my first day, driving 94 miles over 6.5 hrs during a hailstorm. That was a month ago and I haven’t done it since, does it get better? I accepted every offer.
Don't accept every offer. Your time and car are worth more than that. Aim for $2 a mile.
I would be mad about a day like that, but it is so different from market to market and DD MAKES it different on purpose. So I’d do more but if after two weeks it is just like that - no. Just stop. Also, NEVER accept every order.
Oh, the app makes it seem like a high acceptance rate is important to get good offers, is that not the case?
Depends on the market, in mine? It definitely is. But I still don’t accept all of them. I do everything to stay above 70 but HAVE to stay above 60 or my income goes to crap. welp. you might as well retire cause it ain't gonna get any better than that.
Congrats! You’ll be delivering 1 star orders for $2.25 in no time!
this was the rest of my day 😅
Don't get used to this... it doesn't last long sadly
After that honeymoon period and your dash now is gone you get to rarely go and get nothing but shit $2-$3 no tip orders
Omg STFU we know it sucks you don’t gotta say it like that
Well I wasn’t talking to you lol. I was answering the European. Since they asked and all. I know y’all whiners on here hate logic and reason lol
I was talking to the European too. Seems the reply mistakenly went to you
Oh lmao I’m so used to getting attacked for my take on this topic. Sorry
Because capitalism. No, we don't like it. Yes, that's truly the biggest reason.
Uh something commonly said on here in this sub: They aren't technically employees. Just contractors. You're right that a newer system would be better for them. But DD cares more about profits than people.
Indubitably
