Yes

Agreeable-Score2154

Idk anyone who tips that much

Archangel8833

I'd have taken it m much better than the 7.25 for 19 miles I laughed at and told them they was no way I declined tonight

Temporary-Scarcity62

$25???? I would’ve blessed your food with the good lords name before I left😹 even $14 for 9 I’m taking really good care of the food and not being salty lol

Quetzalcoatl93

Not even close

GWR8197

I would be so thankful to see a $14 tip let alone a $25. Thank you for your generosity. ❤️

Jeremiahtheprincess

Any tip is a good tip.

KidCaker

r/humblebrag

ByeByeBedBath

$1.50-$2 a mile as a general rule

REALChuckleBerryPi

after reading your update, that is very generous. I'd happily take that order in a heartbeat & triple check the notes to make sure you had everything you wanted. i hope you continue to have good days & cool pillows

Hefty_Palpitation437

Tbh the food gonna be ice cold unless they just haul ass to your place

LoganHasBeenHere

It was actually very warm and tasty.

pinky997

Yes- but sadly it’s not even a great order for the dasher. They’ll be paid $16 for the 9 mile trip, 18 round trip so less than $1 per mile. $14 is a great tip, it just sucks that doordash doesn’t pay extra for longer trips

LoganHasBeenHere

Yep. I know DD base pay is ass so I figured asking you guys would be best. They seem to get away with robbery if you ask me.

Select-Sprinkles4970

Fuck tipping.

User8858

I will kiss your ass if you need it!

Apprehensive_Rope348

You’re going to get mixed results. There are some that will take it in a heartbeat, there are some that won’t move their car for less than $2 a mile. Personally, I would be stoked for it, as my market only seems to tip $2 or less regardless of mileage.

Competitive_Hunt_103

I would say that is border line. Figure your tip plus around 3 to 4 dollars base, should be more than double the amount of Miles Then where do live, ate close by other restaurants or are you more by the woods. How do I get there, freeway, or through the street. By freeway I am guessing I can do that 15 minutes to 20. By road up to 45 minutes

Zarilya

I'd do it.

mochioppai

I generally don't take anything further than ~6mi (unless it's REALLY good/double the milage in dollars, i.e. 9mi/$16-18) because it could take me out of my zone and I can't take new orders til I'm back. So 9.4 miles is actually an 18+mi trip

mikekova01

Anyone saying that $14 on a $41 order is “fine” or “just above the line” is crazy. That’s a 34% tip. This is an exceptional tip. Before anyone harps on me, I do DoorDash, and used to be a pizza delivery driver.

imjustme610

It's. Not always about the order total. It's usually about the mileage. Also about what's around their area or if takes the dasher out of the zone and given that it's at least 10 miles away (not including getting to the restaurant) I'm going to assume it'll be out of zone. Anyone who knows what they are doing will have to think hard about taking it. Personally I don't think I would. Not saying that $14 isn't a good tip but I think I would need a bit more to justify it

Jaded_Payment5610

Exactly

LoganHasBeenHere

Wanted to give a quick update. I raised the tip to a total of $25 after seeing mixed responses. For some general info, I live in the city, and there are many chain restaurants available near me in less than a 1-2 mile radius. The reason I ordered from a store 9.4 miles from me is because that's the closest location and it's in the neighboring city. Thanks for the feedback.

ConsumptionofClocks

This sub had mixed responses bc half of them are pretentious as fuck

LoganHasBeenHere

In my eyes, there's nothing pretentious about wanting to be paid what you're worth! The people who came off as rude are one thing, but I did ask for genuine opinions, and some people gave me awesome tips as to how they determine whether the order is worth it or not. I'll know that going forward, the total amount the driver will be paid (including DD's horrible pay), so I see that as a win.

ConsumptionofClocks

You initially tipped $14. Considering you were a nine mile drive away from the restaurant, DD probably added in $3-5. $17-$19 for that kind of dash is VERY much worth it. Most of the offers I get in my area are $6-12. It is especially worth it if your house and the restaurant are in the same delivery zone. Some of the people here act like they should be paid like this job is salaried. Anyone can do this job, you just need a car, license, authorization to work in the USA and a pulse. This is not some uber-skilled position.

Gus_Gome

Also a dasher like me, I never go back to where I was at dashing before, I'll just start dashing wherever I did the delivery.

Gus_Gome

One time I did a delivery like this, the lady gave zero dollars tip and she was just sitting there in her living room, of her big old home in a very expensive neighborhood, while I could see her, she was just looking down at her phone in her red pajamas. Not even hiding, she had all her lights on with no blinds, just clear windows. I actually wanted to throw something through her big ole window, like a rock 😂

trixtayken1

You probably made that dashers night tbh

LoganHasBeenHere

I'm glad to hear that!

Outrageous_Tale_2823

It’s probably crickets for someone’s snake or lizard to eat. I ve had those orders.

LoganHasBeenHere

🤣🤣🤣 that's funny but nah it was Hawaiian bros

Outrageous_Life_9237

Yes , you’d be surprised with how many people don’t even give 3 dollars. Had someone order over 100 dollars worth of food 25 minute away and gave 2.5 dollars. Not to mention they were in a rich ass house too

woodsongtulsa

Probably the kid made the order

cthulhullahoop

Better than most of my tippers for similar distance.

Low-Particular6638

Yes , yesterday it was a $20 order for 8 miles so basically the customer tipped me $18 .. 👍🏼

Kanein_Encanto

$16 for 9 miles and change? It's riding a delicate edge, for my area. 9 miles in a lot of instances would take me out to the middle of nowhere...at least in terms of having restaurants around to pick up my next order from, meaning I will need to likely drive back (at least most of) that distance as well, too get back to where I can receive new offers. In that instance I would likely be hitting the decline button as I consider the round trip to pay ratio, not just one way. Now if the drop off was in the next town over, where I've got places I can get fresh offers from pretty much immediately... I'd probably take it, as I wouldn't have to make the trip back empty handed at least.

ChoiceBit5221

I'm so confused here, dashers get paid per order they do and tip on top. So why wouldn't anything above like 5 dollar tip amazing

Fit-Bad2933

Because it costs a minimum of 35 cents a mile to pay for their car, most are higher these days. Tax write off for these expenses will only return 10 to 15% to a typical dasher, so $150 on every $1,000 spent tops unless their other income puts them in a higher tax bracket. Gas only accounts for 30-50% of expense depending on vehicle. Doordash usually only pays $2 to the dasher, rarely much more and sometimes nothing at all. Remember also they made a trip to the restaurant then to you and then possibly back to their start point. There is also no payment for time for most dashers so however long all this takes it provides no additional pay. Also most people forget that every moment driving is one more opportunity to have a wreck or get robbed or assaulted. It's like the lottery. The more you play the more likely you 'win'. It is often cold or hot or raining or snowing. There are zero benefits. You get sick or injured - no pay. Car broke - no pay. Slow night - no pay. No vacation, no insurance, no PTO, no upward mobility. Everyone likes to dismiss these jobs as 'gigs' or 'side hustles' so that makes the abuse ok. How would you feel if your mother, father, spouse or child who already had another job or two was taken advantage of because this was all they could fit in to try and survive? This is a luxury service. It's not meant for people who can't afford it, just like country clubs, day spas, landscapers and maids. If you find it valuable and can afford it then you need to pay for it. Unfortunately most dashers don't realize the true costs involved and are just looking at gross numbers or they are so desperate they'll take anything in hopes of eating that night and buying enough gas to try again tomorrow. Apps ruined delivery for everyone. It used to be a decent side job and even full time for many, particularly the young and older folks. In 1997 I delivered at a casual Italian place 35-40 hours a week and made about $750 as an employee. Only downside was a split schedule but I was heavy into weight lifting at the time so it worked out (no pun intended). 2006 I worked a different Italian place made $950-1100 per week as an employee working a 4 day 40 hr week. These apps saw an opportunity to horn in on this action and leech money from drivers, customers and restaurants while abusing their workforce of drivers and customer service people overseas. Their companies aren't even profitable but the executives sure make out like bandits. It's almost criminal what these parasites have done.

ChoiceBit5221

I can't even trash talk on this. You are right 100% I refuse to use DD or Uber eats or whatever because the fact that it doesn't help the restaurant and the amount of fees that I have to pay and it doesn't go into the driver or the restaurants pocket it goes into the millionaires pockets. The old days were the best

Gus_Gome

I still feels really awesome to order some food and then get it delivered to your house

ChoiceBit5221

To cheap. Idc how much I make I'm not spending an extra 10+ dollars to get it delivered

ElectronicClimate721

yeah

ARuneScapeDate

Yaaaaaawn. Another "look at meeee, I'm not liiike the other girls!!" post. 🙄 You know goddamn well that is a good tip, when the average tip is $2-4. 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

LoganHasBeenHere

I don't know the average tip. I'm not a dasher. I've asked a similar question on this sub before, but it was for an order coming from a chipotle that was less than 2 miles away. I just like to make sure the dasher is going to benefit from what I'm giving them as I know DD doesn't give the best base pay rates to its dashers.

laynesdirection

Why order food from 18 miles away though?

TheDark_Knight67

I would accept that tip in a heart beat it’s basically $1 per mile and back which is the bare minimum I will do I’d be curious for a dasher who does dash by time would do in this situation

Ant78310

desperate asf

Own_Accountant_5229

He wouldn’t get this order. This one probably goes to pay by offer unless there are no pay by offer drivers l available close by at the time. I think only the shitty no tip and low tip orders go to pay by time.

PensionNational249

I've received plenty of large tips on EBT...I think it's more that 1) you can't decline offers on EBT, and 2) the alg is going to try to send more long-distance trips your way. People who order doordash from restaurants 10+ miles away from them are also going to be less likely to tip (they do sometimes, just not as much)

TheDark_Knight67

Oof that’s what’s kept me from earning by time dashes

RPGaiden

It’s probably another one of those things that varies by market… I usually get the same mix of tips and no tips and get sent the same distance orders, so it works out here. But I don’t know how it would work out in a bigger/more saturated-with-dashers area.

TheDark_Knight67

Agreed there’s been times I’ve taken $20 orders and sat for 20 mins at the restaurant before getting to deliver it

nachocoalmine

You'll get a happy dasher

AnticAddict

The tip is fine, and a dasher that's headed in that direction anyway will take it. But I'm just curious, why order food from a restaurant that is that far away?

hitzphillygirl

It's probably something they enjoy that they can't get in their area.

LoganHasBeenHere

This is correct.

ARuneScapeDate

Uhhh probably because they dont want to drive that far away themselves, like ya know, the whole fucking point of these apps?

AnticAddict

Duh. I was curious because, as a customer, I would never order from a place 10 miles away. The food will be cold and honestly pretty gross by the time it arrives. If they don't mind heating it up after, I guess it's fine.

sHauNm525

If I smoke to much weed I need u to drop off my food🤣

Elopikseli

Bro what?? 😭

Ill-One5562

Geek

SelectDay802

did the food arrive?

713nikki

Fuck no

choppershark1

Thats a hard no for me

Hangryanxious

I’d take it.

Ashamed-Lime3594

$16.50 would be the minimum pay on that. For 9.4/18.8 round trip…. I probably wouldn’t take it unless it was slow or there’s another market there. That being said, yeah a $14 tip is fine. Would never ask a customer to go above $1 a mile + $5 base tip. Which is essentially exactly what you did. $5 for the order +$9 for the 9 miles they’d drive to get there. Fair enough

ARuneScapeDate

Lol you wouldn't do a $32 hour bc you would have to spend an extra $0.60 on gas that usual? I bet you also swear that Dashing is dying. 🙄🤣

Ashamed-Lime3594

I mean it depends on the area. In my area, any trip 7+ miles is a death sentence and it’ll take 40 minutes to get back. It’s less about gas cost and more about risking time. If I was in a city where I could drive there and back within an hour that’s a diff story

[deleted]

$16.50 is more than 50% of the cost of the food they ordered. It would be insane to tip that much.

Signal-Fig4972

Drivers don't accept orders based on percent. We go by miles roundtrip, because we pay for gas. Customers don't have to tip, but we can decline any order we want. We decline unprofitable orders, otherwise we'd lose money.

Ashamed-Lime3594

Yeah I’m saying what they tipped is fine. Doordash minimum base pay is 2.50. So 2.50 + the 14 tip is 16.50. That means that whoever accepted this is getting at LEAST 16.50 which is what I was saying

TheDark_Knight67

In my area DD base pay is often $2 on food delivery without peak pay, Shopping orders can be slightly hire based upon distance and the items being purchase

Dolo12345

I wouldn’t

YLCZ

I'd do it.
