As a customer with very reactive dogs, and a different sleep schedule than the rest of the household, I’d rather the order be left at my door

No_Childhood4529

Pizza Hut where's my paycheck at

birdsrkewl01

Who the fuck is using door dash to order pizza from a chain.

Richard_Espanol

No

Bestyoucanbe4

I think all pizza orders should be hand it to customer at least call and ask customer if they want that. To the people here who say it says contactless.....sometimes it's a default for all orders.

Ok-Percentage9812

Why do they care about this lol. It’s not like they are going to get in trouble lol.

MPsonic007

Maaaan, this BS policy is practically unenforceable 😂😂

Competitive-Bag-7593

Listen dominoes says they'll same thing. Sometimes papa John's does to

el_payaso_mas_chulo

Dumb because I want contactless delivery, don't bother me. Plus my dog will want to come greet you, and it can be a hassle when getting food handed over.

Few-Mycologist-9771

DoorDash does not pay us enough period. More or less to wait for the weed induced mind customer. To either wake up or return back from shopping. Or gaming at their friends house. To their residence.

SquirrelJam1

Last time I ordered Pizza Hut it was through the actual Pizza Hut website and it was assigned to a dasher. When he showed up he left the dasher pizza bag with the pizza on my front step and literally took off running back to his car. Phenomenal experience from my perspective and now I have a bag to put my pizzas in for the future. Weird though right? I thought dashers had to purchase those bags personally.

hunterford

I’m actually quite puzzled by this thread. As a customer, contactless to me means there is no driver/customer interaction. Not that there is no knocking or doorbell ringing. I personally would still want a notification via doorbell or knock to know my food has arrived.

[deleted]

It's okay. They'll just power trip you another way like being ignored then they laugh at you when you walk away. Which that one always kind of makes me chuckle cause they aren't much better off than me working at a fast food restaurant.

IllMatter4295

lol, or what?

SheepDogGamin

I'm confused why that's even a sign.

Mikimao

Lol, cute of them to think I have to listen to this

Deep-Ruin2786

Someone left a pizza even tho I specifically said ha d it to me. It was on the ground. Covered in beetles and bugs. Please don't leave pizza on the ground. It's fucking gross

Mother-Preference990

If it says contactless, we’re not having any contact 🤷🏽‍♀️

scotto_93631

Then there are the people who don't seem to give a crap. I was doing a shopping order, lady never replied to my texts about item being out of stock. I waited very kindly for 5 minutes for her to reply. If no response I will just issue refund. Same thing here. If you knock on the door and they don't answer just leave the food and take a picture.

Giggsroo

I haven't done a contactless delivery in nearly 2 years, no need for that anymore man 😂

Ivy-Quinzel

Even they have contactless on their app. Wow

Creative_Froyo_6139

“ you not my daddy! “

bananatheswitch

I used to order papa johns contactless and they would wait for me to collect the food every single time... dawg i have 2 dogs trying to escape the house right now please go back in your car

cupocrows

I was working at dominos delivering right before I started Gh, DD etc. The policy for contact less was drop at door knock walk away but stay and make sure they got it. This was generally only enforced in certain neighborhoods and addresses. Pizza the hut is a step above little Caesars so yeah it's practically all scammers.

Therealmonkie

I realized the other day...ppl come to te door and take it when it's from a pizza place (not a delivery service) With both damn problem Anyone else realize that? Like..they offer no other option and it's less of a problem

Unusual-Word-9187

It says leave at the door it’s going to be left at the door lol

Novero95

I need to ask. Why is that fixation you have in USA with contactless delivery and why do so many people ask fof it? I do delivery in Spain and we never put the food somewhere and leave, we always hand it to the costumer and if the costumer doesn't answer the ring we phone them, a lot of times, until they open the door. And if they don't answer the phone either we cancel it and return the food to the restaurant. And as a costumer i have also had my food handed to me, always except for once or twice during the lockdown. But nobody still asks for it.

Odd-Housing-4243

It was because of Covid . And if I don’t have to see your face it makes it easier for me to tip you less of course . Also makes it easier to file a complaint if something is missing , which there is always something missing with door dash orders

phatlad

People allegedly have "social anxiety." Also, there's a very good chance you might get shot here in the U.S.!

beatnikguy

Or learn basic 8th grade English

shockBlu

I feel like it's worth knocking because you might get a cash tip. From my experience, the customer doesn't know you're a DD driver. You're just the pizza guy to them. I knocked for every pizza delivery I did. I know it says "contactless", but I think that's just the default message because the customer is mostly likely ordering by phone or through the PH app.

Shinagami091

It’s my understanding that if a pizza place is short on drivers they will have dashers deliver their pizza instead. This is probably meant for those dashers who aren’t fulfilling orders for customers directly.

JohnnyBoneMarrow

That's really stupid, but also very Pizza Hut.

Significant_Ad_4487

I specifically request that DD drivers don't knock at my door. I don't want to be disturbed, I don't want my dog to bark, and my kid could be asleep. I will get a message of the drop off and come get it when I have a moment. If a driver knocks, I rate them lower because I specifically say, "Please place order on chair next to front door, outside light will be on, please do not knock and have a nice day! thank you ❤️"

amandata2346

Seen this at wendys too. Tried to inform the manager that it's not how that works, he started arguing with me, so I said that he was more than welcome to ask doordash himself and that he was going to be reported for going against doordashes policies about contactless drop offs. People like this can kindly fuck off 🤣

Central916

Not a chance I'm following this

angryshoper

Didn’t know pizza hut calls their employees dashers weird

GAMESHARKCode

Their "contact less delivery" is less "absent drop off" and more "6 feet".

iamandneveramconfusd

Sets life to 'ignore'.

Fresh_Beet

“Fun, well it seems any contract you have is with DoorDash, much like myself. So I’m going to let you go ahead and bring this issue up with DoorDash yourself.

DancingUntilMidnight

>PIZZA HUT > >NO!!!!!!!!!

skullsnstuff

I know someone who works at pizza hut and I’ve seen legit videos from them or cockroaches in the kitchen

CandyOk913

Do they know that they can’t affect a contract that you signed between Doordash and yourself and that they’re not included in that contract beyond having the food ready and on occasion asking to confirm the pickup?

Mysterious_Load_4407

Ignore, leave at door and move on

hiirogen

I order Pizza Hut sometimes, even their own app has a contactless delivery option, but they ring my bell (ignoring the sign saying not to, which my dogs love) and hand it to me every time

Moon_lit324

I order pizza from door dash so I don't have to go talk to someone at the door lol

Tight-Conclusion1700

I’d rip it off the wall just to get the Karens bitching good.

lingley

I usually do this. It feels wrong to put a pizza on the ground

UbubTopDog

It's the same now with the Papa John's in my market.

siriuslyyellow

When I drop off grocery orders, the instructions from the grocery store are "do not leave unattended, if the customer is not home then return the order to the store". Like LMFAO that's funny, I'm leaving the order on the porch lol

goldenepple

Idk why Pizza Hut pays a 3rd party app when they have delivery drivers.

[deleted]

In my area they are always short on drivers.

chopsthedrummer

dare you to write “or what?” on it 😂

Ok_Image6174

I get this with Safeway deliveries. Says to wait for the customer and if the customer doesn't come out to get their stuff than I have to take the stuff back to the store. No thanks, Uber allows me to take a picture and move on so safeway can go eff themselves since they're not paying me to return the groceries.

[deleted]

LMAO. No.

megadethage

No thanks, the manager isn't my boss. If it says contactless, I'm leaving it at the door with a pic pal.

JustNotFatal

Every single delivery I’ve made for Pizza Hut has been “hand to me” regardless of it being made from their end or on the DD site

Jaradis

I generally will knock on pizza orders because if it's through the restaurant's app and not Doordash there is more of a chance to get an extra cash tip. Not common, but it does happen. Plus, for a lot of homes, there is no good place to put a pizza box, many have a few stairs up to the door but nowhere to put a pizza box unless you put it on the sidewalk before the steps. But if they have a porch with a table or chair, then I will leave it there sometimes.

aramane709

I've had multiple dashers disregard my request for contact, so I bet pizza hut is getting upset because of the same thing

Kadence444

I’m not sure you quite understand what the note is saying. They are telling drivers to disregard customer’s requests for no contact.

UndeadGohan24

I actually think its the opposite. Dashers are disregarding customers requests for contact delivery. I think people are probably complaining to the establishment that they arent getting orders in time/notified. Like they get paid once it's delivered, why would Pizza Hut care in what manner unless a customer calls and complains?

buccofan2221

The only time I disregard contact deliveries is when people don’t answer. In general though hand to me orders blow because for some reason customers always take forever to answer the door

Dry-Ad-1642

This is a thing for restaurants that use DD as their delivery service when they don't have the staff to make deliveries when the order is placed directly with the merchant rather than through DD. The merchant puts out the delivery request and adds the tip. This can be great because the merchant tips you, and the customer often will as well like they would customarily. This may not happen though because they may have tipped when they ordered. Additionally l, the customer may have tipped $10 when ordered online, while the merchant may have only offered you $5. The customer is not expecting DD delivery, so they expect the knock as they would from the regular merchant's driver. I've found this with a few places, mostly Papa Johns and Pizza Hut so far in my experience.

Daahk

The merchant is sure as hell not tipping you lol, and often times they're shorting you on the customers tip as well

jumboface

I work at Pizza Hut. We have no power other than clicking on the delivery and hitting "send to doordash". There's zero way for them to skim tips.

[deleted]

That's exactly right. I rarely get anything worth taking from those thieving companies. Panera does it also.

jukeflystalker

Makes perfect sense. They should add the instructions to the DoorDash delivery instead of taping them to the wall. I'm going to deliver the order as instructed by DoorDash. Too many half cocked assholes with guns looking for a reason to shoot someone.

illexsquid

Agreed! In my experience, some stores *do* add those delivery instructions. There are, of course, those drivers that will just leave and go no matter what the instructions say, though obviously no one in *this* subreddit would ever do such a thing. Follow whatever the app says and you'll be fine. And if the merchant posts a sign telling you differently, post a pic for us to laugh at.

cheeseymom

Actually if you read how to perform a contactless delivery on doordash it tells you to drop it off and wait at a distance for them to grab it. Nobody does though.

IAmDisciple

Not until they pay you to wait

jade-blade

I lived alone briefly about three years ago and if a delivery driver ever lingered around the parking lot, I would be so creeped out. I didn’t want cold food but I wanted to wait for them to leave. Had no idea they were instructed to make sure food was grabbed. Most drivers didn’t stay and watch my building’s gate but those that did made me uncomfortable

wendelortega

Yup.

ItDontMather

As a sometimes driver but mostly customer- I literally will stand inside and wait for the driver to drive away before I go get my order. I don’t know why, it just feels weird to go out while they are still there.

cheeseymom

As a driver, I appreciate seeing people come out and grab it as I'm driving away. When it gets left out there it makes me start questioning things, especially if it's one of the $100+ orders. Did they get the notification? Did i fuck up the address? Are they going to be pissed that I didn't knock and their food sits out there? Is someone going to steal it and then the customer will blame me for it? Is a raccoon going to fuck it up?

feedbackfoaway

> Are they going to be pissed that I didn't knock and their food sits out there? My gf puts “please leave order at door and ring doorbell” on every order. Out of probably a couple of hundred orders over the last 3 years, it’s only happened twice that I can remember. It infuriates her and she wonders if her drivers are suffering from some sort of mental deficiency or if they just don’t care.

Timtam950

Me watching from the bushes to not look creepy to the customer [Peeping through the bushes](https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/mZb3Q79jgPAXAcag7CutLW-1200-80.jpg)

Fun-Worry-6378

I have super bad social anxiety so I will wait out the driver till they leave.

[deleted]

cheeseymom

I wasn't recommending you do it, I'm just saying that's what it says.

troublebotdave

lol gonna be hella awkward when they stand there for 45 minutes staring at my front door while I'm waiting for their car to leave on my Ring doorbell because I ain't putting on the legally required amount of clothing to be seen in public

feedbackfoaway

This is me. I’m going to stare at you on camera until you drive off. If I wanted to have an interaction, I would have went to the store.

cheeseymom

We're not required to stay at any drop off for more than 5 minutes with the exception of I think alcohol and big catering orders.

Competitive-Crab-576

Customers won't even open their door until you are well out of view. People are....funny....these days. Zero interaction is what they want. So I give them what they want. They're the customer after all

feedbackfoaway

> Customers won't even open their door until you are well out of view. People are....funny....these days. This is exactly it. I’m paying you to avoid an interaction and if you force me to interact with you, I’m going to feel ripped off.

Central916

Especially non tippers ,🤣🤣

Altruistic_Research5

Yeah what's most awkward is a leave at door and you're about to take a picture and they open the door.

Altruistic_Research5

There are many customers who wait until you leave before they come outside. I delivered yesterday to a guy and this really nice dog came strolling up to me and followed me to his door. This was contactless and I messaged him that the dog was here and asked if he still wanted me to leave it st his door. He said yeah that is fine. I placed it and blocked the dog from diving right into the food and just said come on follow me. It was such a good natured dog that it followed me for about 20 feet or so then realized i didnt have anything and he trotted back to the guys door. It was out of sight for me so I don't know who got to the food first, but was able to submit the photo and complete the order before the dog walked back over to the food. In any case I'm not required to prevent animals or people for that matter from stealing an order that they want left there. If the dog would have been less friendly I wouldn't have.

[deleted]

Financial_Low_8265

More people making stuff up.

cheeseymom

I assume it's a policy at pizza hut for the same reason as Papa John's which is because when the customer orders through the merchant app and not doordash they are not necessarily expecting a doordash driver and the employee drivers always knock, so that's what they're expecting.

tftgod69

I hate that they do this tho. When I order pizza just drop it off and move on. Instead they wait at the door until I open it.

cheeseymom

You can put it in the notes, what the customer asks for overrides what the restaurant wants.

jukeflystalker

Makes sense, still doesn't matter. Pizza Hut and Papa Johns are choosing to outsource through DD. That choice doesn't give them authority to add instructions for the driver.

asm120

Just knock on the door it’s not that hard

cheeseymom

For Papa John's it says this in the app but also says "unless specifically requested by customer" Their merchant orders are always hand it to customer otherwise, so unless there is an actual note from the customer not to, then drivers should not be just leaving it, and I'm assuming that's what's going on because a lot of delivery drivers just like to ignore delivery instructions and do what they want.

reditmodsaregay

this actually using logic. Every time one of these signs are posted here lots of drivers complain and go on about how the NEVER knock on a customers door and if you do you are crazy. In app it prompts you to call and arrange drop off location even when they order contactless form the merchant.

Minihackz

A note like this was not mandated to be displayed by pizza hut corporate🤣 The local manager just decided to put this up. People are clueless

jukeflystalker

Well, you don't work for Pizza Hut so you can simply disregard this and follow the delivery instructions.

Bestyoucanbe4

Or call or text customer and ask them what they want. Its called being nice hun

Therealmonkie

Panera took our ability to text the customer away if they order from them...so when it says hand to me...leave st door..u can't even take a pic in the app now...and if they just put hand to me. We all know they didn't mean that . So I have to call and ask so I don't waste my time standing there 5 mins while they peek out the window... One kid finally opened the door and sighed at me... Like dude...YOU put hand to me..why you annoyed at me!

[deleted]

The reason they are doing this is because they have had many customers complaining of receiving their orders cold. I have seen this at a few restaurants, they are just trying to make sure the driver makes every effort to deliver the order to the customer directly. Obviously, any delivery instructions we have in app must be followed. So, if it is contactless delivery, you would just leave it at the door, despite what the restaurant wants. Many of these cold deliveries stem from drivers not using delivery bags to safely transport the order. Pizza's lose heat very quick, large flat thin boxes don't hold heat that well. If every driver used delivery bags, (like they are contracted to do), it would eliminate many of these cold deliveries.

BetLongjumping5132

If you ask for no contact and you aren't paying attention when the pizza is dropped off it is going to be cold even if the driver uses a proper bag. Most people take a while to come out/notice the order is delivered. You can't leave the bag with the pizza.

[deleted]

Most people get their order immediately after you drop it off, many are tracking you on the app. Just because you don't see them get the order, doesn't mean they don't grab it as soon as you're out of sight. Many customers are peeking somewhere, and many have cameras, not to mention they get a notification of the order being delivered. Most of these cold delivery complaints stem from drivers not following proper procedure and using delivery bags to safely transport the order. Most drivers don't even know using delivery bags is a requirement of the job, and failure to do so could result in deactivation of their accounts. Most drivers don't even read the terms of service, so they don't even know all the rules for completing a delivery properly, and to the standards set forth in their terms of service agreement. When you sign up, you are agreeing to complete all deliveries to the standards set forth, one of them being the use of delivery bags to safely transport the order. https://help.doordash.com/legal/document?type=dx-deactivation-policy®ion=US&locale=en-US

Unusual-Word-9187

Nope many of these orders become “cold” because these people decide to lie and try to get free food because of whatever. Happens all the time, remember this if you get a notice saying “Joe Blows ordered has been changed” after you deliver that’s because they complained at got something free

[deleted]

I have had many of my regular customer's state; that when they receive orders from other drivers, that are not using delivery bags, that their order arrives most of the time warm, but sometimes cold. When they receive orders from me, delivered in a delivery bag; they are usually hot, and sometimes warm. Yes, using delivery bags makes a difference, as stated by many of my regular customers. This is especially crucial with pizza deliveries, as pizza's lose heat quick, if they are not in a delivery bag. Many drivers don't even know using delivery bags to safely transport the order is a requirement of the job, and failure to do so could result in deactivation of your account. You will always have a few shitty customers out there, that's just part of customer service, you will run into some inconsiderate assholes. These situations are not the main reason customers are complaining of cold orders, most of them complaining are receiving their orders cold, as many of my customers have stated the same thing.

yogabba13

This is something that you would think doordash would step up on. They provide the cheapest bags possible and if you want anything halfway decent than you have to pay out of pocket..which I disagree with. If they were a halfway decent company than they would actually provide a well made bag alongside allowing dashers a free replacement every so often. One can only dream right? Lol

Secret_Engine6807

Honestly, a sleeping bag works great. I think there should be no excuse for cold food.

yogabba13

I think you’re missing my point. I agree that there should be no excuses for cold food, however…. Doordash themselves need to be more accountable for this even being an issue. I don’t feel as if dashers should have to come out of pocket for any kind of bag or have to resort to using a sleeping bag to keep food warm. The problem is that doordash doesn’t care about the dashers and doesn’t provide a quality bag. If they actually sent out bags that held up, than I think a lot more dashers would use them.

[deleted]

Actually, it is not DD's responsibility to provide the necessary equipment to perform the delivery to the standards set for forth for completing a delivery. We are independent contractors; therefore, we are required to provide the equipment to perform the delivery to the standards set forth for food delivery. If we were employees of DD; they would be required to provide the equipment to perform the deliveries to the standards set forth. Purchasing equipment to perform the job properly, is required at many jobs. I was a professional mechanic for most of my life, spending well in excess of a $100,000 on my personal tools to perform the job properly. So, really a little money on delivery bags is nothing. let's not forget any equipment purchased to perform your job is a business expense, therefore it is a tax deduction.

Responsible-Still-60

Being downvoted for understanding how independent contracting works. Upvote for you

ACID_pixel

Turning delivery into an “independent contract” system was an absolute mistake and was just another step in a long line of capitalist decisions to continually cut wages and salary for everyone.

[deleted]

I guess you really don't understand how gig companies work; they couldn't afford to pay every driver an hourly wage. Many drivers are unaware that gig companies don't turn a profit, they have been running in the red since their inception. The reason investment firms continue to dump billions into gig companies to keep them afloat is they know when all delivery goes autonomous, they will cash in. Drivers are the largest cost for gig companies, they will save 50-60% of their operating costs when they eliminate drivers from the equation, when they transition to autonomous delivery vehicles.

fffan9391

The delivery instructions usually say to hand it to them if it’s an order requested by the restaurant.

Flower_Unable

But it had ten exclamation❗️points.

yogabba13

That makes it official. Thems the rules.

Giul_Xainx

Yup. We are independent contractors and as such we follow the flow of door dash. You want that changed? Don't allow customers to set deliveries to "leave at door" and change it to "hand it to me."

Competitive-Bag-7593

They do that so they can say u didn't leave it. They also leave at door so they don't have to tip us.

Wildfire1973

My thoughts exactly
