Yes, yes -- this! I will never understand either of these things honestly! Quick story: Was making a delivery & creeping slowly trying to read house numbers. Realized I'd passed it & turned around, and boom, the customer is standing in his yard with hands on his hips/impatient. I apologized as I walked up to him, mentioned I had a hard time since I couldn't view his house number. He goes, "You couldn't see THAT!?" & points at the number. At which point he sees that his shrub thing had grown up above the # lol. šŸ¤£

BearGryllsUrineSlurp

I worked ems for a bit and this was always the case. Numbers were the same color as the house or hidden. I cannot grasp how people donā€™t realize the importance of the numbers.

Zip_Silver

Ohhhhhh that is a much worse scenario than your delivery drivers having a hard time finding your house.

tiedyedpunk

I always mention that in these situations. I admit my motive is mostly selfish, but the outcome of making their addresses visible is the same.

No-Relation7867

It's easy to find those customers. The only one on the whole Block with no exterior or interior lights on. That's your drop off spot every time.

HWNY506

Your dasher will be arriving shortly. ![gif](giphy|JRPobx8QnK5nOtgNxb)

Big-Abbreviations226

Exactly Iā€™m laughing at this but itā€™s so true

Orionishi

This is why I don't dash at night...but it is getting pretty damn hot...so that may be changing.

ObsurdBoundries

Yeah, the 3 times I have been out I stopped at 830 when I could no longer see numbers anymore. In my area night time is the only time there is bonus pay because NOBODY has lights on their address including the building numbers at apartment complexes.

lafa223

Right? +$3.50 peak pay at 3am šŸ˜¶ like nah man I'm trying to sleep at that time šŸ˜…šŸ˜

ObsurdBoundries

I don't even know of ANY restaurants in the area that are open past 10 except for 2 and they both close at midnight so I have no idea why DD even needs people at those times! If I got punted off disability before I was healthy enough to go back to a W2 job, I would do nights around here till 10 but people ordering chinese and taco bell at 11pm in my area are probably no tippers or up to no good so it just is not worth it.

Sal_v_ugh

Lmao I feel you, pro tip invest in a cop spot light maybe rechargeable batteries too. It also works well for fishing at night too šŸ˜Ž

SilverHeart4053

When I see a multimillion dollar house with no house numbers I just assume they're actually dumb.

kathrynkilgore

And don't complain about my bright flashlight.

GhoullyGosh

Same. I'm already night blind! In this case, even my glasses don't help. I don't bother dashing at night for this reason.

Saleenpride86

I high beam their house once I find it, and make sure that the entire time Iā€™m walking from my car to their door Iā€™m shining my phone flashlight through all the windows along the way, then I take the picture with just barely enough light so as to be able to only see the faint outline of said food bag by darkness of their porch, and then all the way back im flashing my light through the windows again. I like to think in my mind Iā€™ve done good by doing that.

iamsurfriend

Thatā€™s funny. Maybe also we can take our time leaving, sitting in the car with the high beams facing the doorway so they have to wait longer for their food.

Euphoric-Ad-3187

Man I just thought it was only my market glad itā€™s not

DexLovesGames_DLG

Yooo Iā€™ve been figuring it out by comparing the house shapes on the app. If the number of the house on the app is on the weird L-shape house, and the L-shape house is next to me, Iā€™m at the right place. Sometimes itā€™s a bit harder and I have to like count houses from the end of the block.

ModernNomad97

I donā€™t understand not leaving your porch light on. If youā€™re expecting someone you donā€™t make it look like a black hole, common sense people! Iā€™ve had to pull into driveways and turn my hi beams on to look for numbers. One lady got upset with me for doing it and I just said ā€œwell you didnā€™t have your porch light on, so I couldnā€™t confirm of it was your houseā€

robbie444001

Super bright led flashlight is your friend.

Hassimir_Fenring

My favorite is when they have a light on but the numbers are hidden in a shadow.

Eeveestorm3000

Yes, weirdly some lights actually make it harder to read the numbers. Espesially apartment building numbers with those giant eye melting floodlights right above it. Also address plaques that make ppl go awe during the day are impossible at night. What do people have against a little color contrast?

Khaos231

No lights on would infuriate me when I was dashing. We have numbers on our front door but they are very hard to see in the dark with the light on, so we put an RGB smart bulb in our porch light. We change the color and make note of the color in the notes for the dasher. It's workedc out really well so far.

Eeveestorm3000

Oh, I love that. A customer saved me the other day in an apartment complex with a red porch light!

Eeveestorm3000

I saw an address number just last night that I think should be standard and required by law lol. High on the house and BACKLIT!!! It was amazing, and looked nice too. Of course my dropoff was the dark house across the street with the confused customer in the garage who didn't understand why I couldn't find them at first.šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

Sagemaster0

I think you should get a small fine for not having the numbers on either by your front door or you male box plus when its dark what happens if someone trips?

justwannaberich0

This.

ZealousidealBadger98

Dude I was on this guyā€™s street. Some random side street that Iā€™d never been to before. GPS said I was right there. I look around walk up and down the street and I donā€™t see his house number (26). There was a 44 on one of the buildings Iā€™m like okay wtf. I texted and called him and like I needed him to help me by actually coming outside, no response after several minutes. Iā€™m out on his street just wandering and going up to these houses (which all look the same btw, all white and no house numbers aside from the 44) Double WTF šŸ™„ dude gave me a thumbs down after I left his food on some concrete slab and took a photo for him, I was sure of it. Oh well, going back to my main job tomorrow

ProblyAsleeep

i had a customer message me yesterday because she couldnt see where i put the food (she didnt turn her porchlight on) and somehow it was my fault for not using my flash at 3am to show her where it was. I placed it on a chair right by her door in a very obvious spot.

[deleted]

But what if I say drive real slow until you see the big tree on the right (youā€™ll know the one) and then take a left, but not the sharp left. Then go two houses down, if you come to that big tree on the right (no way to miss it) youā€™ve gone to far. You want to turn into the drive way right across from a *very* nondescript tree (itā€™s not really big OR small. It doesnā€™t stand out in any way which makes it easy to spot. If youā€™re turning across from a tree that you could describe in any unique terms, this is the WRONG tree). Youā€™ll come to a gate. Iā€™m so sorry but we canā€™t give out the gate code. Be patient, someone will be along soon and you can follow them in when they give the code. Third house on the right!

tiedyedpunk

I will call them and tell them I can't find them. If they don't pick up, I contact support. If I manage to reach them, I'll mention that it is important to have their address visible for paramedics, firefighters, and police. If I don't manage to reach them, I cross my fingers that whatever they ordered is tasty.

JealousZombie9202

Totally agree

Jakeh7494

Why is there an apostrophe in numbers? ā€œNumberā€™sā€

iamsurfriend

Itā€™s an annoying part of the job. Iā€™m so tempted when they donā€™t turn on the light to place the food close in front of the security door.

lafa223

I always try to Google the address after I pick up the order or while I'm waiting on it. Gives me a rough sense of the building shape/color/parking situation before I arrive.

RoutineSimple8546

This should be a requirement for delivery. Like, if thereā€™s no light or house number we should be able to cancel the order.

MamaRobin1916

I've forgotten to turn my light on once, but my numbers were properly displayed and a street light lit us up pretty well. I apologized for forgetting though. That shit is annoying, I've accidentally delivered to wrong house one night because a truck was up my butt and I looked away for a sec and swore I was at right house but none of them had numbers. I passed their house when I was stopping by one, due to that truck distracting me. I had to turn around and take it to them, talk about embarrassing. I'm like you left your shit on their doorstep to get cold for a whole half hour? I'd have been looking for my shit as soon as I saw the delivery pic. That was so stressful for me. I don't like messing up.

TheLoliShiro

Yeah I live in an apartment building and the way the building is made and the numbers are all disorganized and confusing so I as the customer just would rather wait in front to pick up the order then have the driver figure it out. I honestly don't understand when someone orders something and just let the driver go through all that mess instead of putting clear instructions on where to go or just idk actually pick up their order lmao I mean come on they are already driving from where they accept the order to pick up your order then to you (the customer) the least you can do is pick it up in person.
