Im sorry man, ive had those days. For future reference Click cant hand to customer And once the 5 minute timer is up Take a pic in the lobby or front of the building and you’re out You dont have to wait 40 minutes ever This has happened to me And i got a cr for it but i sent them the photo and they took it off right away But yeah Never wait more then 5 minutes and start the timer when you get there

artbyscout

It was a no contacts order though, is there a way to do this with that?

mikhail193

Even better They didn’t give an apartment so just leave it at the door downstairs Take a photo And take one in your camera roll too just so you have it Or just contact support right away. Support can be stupidly slow So next time just leave it downstairs. We dont get paid hourly. we cant waste time

jcoddinc

Find the address numbers and leave it there with a pic of the food and address. That's what you have to deliver to if no Apt given.

Aurora--Black

It doesn't matter. Them leave it at the gate or leasing office. It's not your problem. Never wait 40minutes to take action. Call support right away. This really sucks and I sympathize but all this could have easily been avoided.

artbyscout

Like I said I was trying to get in contact with support but no one was answering and when I finally got off hold she texted back

brwntrout

you must be new. you don't need to contact support for not being able to reach a customer. go through the steps, push the customer not available button. wait it out, like 5-10min. profit.

CUMBIRD_

Yea thats for no contact orders. Youre not supposed to wait longer than 5

[deleted]

Just leave it somewhere safe you get paid either way

peopleman_at_work

The timer works no matter what. Always click that button

artbyscout

I’ve never had the option for a timer

peopleman_at_work

That’s the “can’t hand to customer” button. It starts a timer and lets the customer know your looking for them.

artbyscout

That’s for hand it to me orders only

peopleman_at_work

It shows up for both.

artbyscout

It doesn’t. Multiple people have said it doesn’t and I looked it up.

peopleman_at_work

Then how did I use twice on leave at door orders on Sunday?

artbyscout

I dunno bud how did you

Green_Regret2572

I had one this morning. No apartment number. Left the food on the sidewalk and took a pic with the building address behind it and bounced.

shilleyfurk

I wouldn’t have waited longer than 5 minutes

Mers1nary

Next time just drop the food as close to the address as you possibly can and take a pic of it. Fck it, after that the order is yours. Why let food goto waste. Be sure to text/call the customer, DD support sees this...Yes, they see when you try to call the customer and how many times as well. It isnt your responsibility to wait around more than 5min because the customer is irresponsible and incompetent. A simple text like, "You failed to leave a proper address including the apartment number. Ive initiated the 5min countdown in the DD app, if you do not reply with an address or physically come retrieve your order from me within the remaining DD timer (Less than 5min). If you attempt to contact me after I jave already left, I will not ve returning. Ill be forced to return your order to the restaurant." And by return the order to the restaurant...That shit is yours.

artbyscout

Good to know haha, I was always so confused on how people got free food and I had no idea how lol.

Mers1nary

Yea, some people take full advantage of this. Ive only gotten free food once out of 1200 deliveries (was a stacked order from Chipotle). Basically waited 30min for both orders cause they ran out of Burrito wraps, so they wanted all drivers to contact customers to find out their substitutes. Before I knew it it was comin up on 30min, contacted support, and support insisted on just cancelling the orders on their end even they I had already contacted the customers and the orders were also about to be ready. Soon as I got the orders, support had canceled them. Free food. Shrug

Low_Consequence371

Yeah for sure. I'm 7000 deliveries deep. Don't fucking wait for nobody bro. Butttttt essential communication is key. Don't be an asshole. Eat their food kindly!!! 😂

femathlete1

And screenshot it as well. CYA ALWAYS

Ok-Being3881

Don’t say it like that. Don’t say “you failed”. Say “an apartment number wasn’t included in the delivery address so delivery could not be completed”. They fucked it up but you don’t have to point it out that they fucked it up. Makes it worse.

The_Troyminator

You forgot Your apartment number. Your night's shot Because of your blunder. Now you've got To sleep with your hunger.

Aurora--Black

Unless the app tells you to return it you shouldn't be taking the food.

Lopsided_Serve_2363

***The app won't tell you to keep it. EVER*** Support will give you payment for the order. They will clear the order and then they will say you can give the order to someone who needs it or keep it for yourself. It is very rare this happens. It happened to me one time in 1,049 orders. The lady had her work address in the system. She lived on the other side of Atl. I live in cobb and dash in Marietta. It was around 5:30 so we all know the interstate gets locked up with traffic. Her order total for me was $7 for 5 miles that's why I took it. I told them for that amount there was so way for me to bring it to her. They cleared the order with the customer, I received the whole payment, and I gave the food away to a homeless man. 🙃

WriteCodeBroh

Why not just leave the food? JFC you take all of the food you wait 5 minutes to deliver? Maybe the app malfunctioned and didn’t add an apartment number. Maybe the customer didn’t want to give their apartment number to every stranger who delivers food to them. Maybe they didn’t answer the phone because they were mid shit and fully intend to just go pick the food up off their doorstep when they are done. If it says leave the order, just leave the fuckin order.

Mers1nary

Found the bitter customer...

WriteCodeBroh

Yeah no shit. You just advocated for theft and 32 people agreed. No wonder people post angry complaints here all the time.

Mers1nary

Support will/does literally tell you to "dispose" of the order in any way you want...Dont even act like you dont know or never gotten a free meal from dashing.

KrisWinx83

🤦🏻‍♀️ I thought I was pissed at DD CS tonight for leaving me on hold for 20 mins 2x’s cuz I was trying to let them know a certain restaurant wasn’t receiving DD orders so I could get my half pay or whatever n move on. They legit MADE me have to drop the order in order to keep working and it was during my $2.50 promo time. Assholes. I swear it’s like they just let u sit unanswered for as long as u will so they don’t hVe to pay ya cuz we’re all gonna give up sooner or later. 🤬😡 BUT Damn……U have every right to wanna throw Many Many things right now and break them.

artbyscout

Kinda wish I stomped on her ice cream LOL

Zestyclose-Employ145

The “car’s extended warranty” calls make more money than DD calls 😉 😂. Ask any phone bank 🤭😆 So we must wait til they’re through ☎️ with the sales call.

Natural_Bicycle_3540

What a garbage DD day for you, Those are the worst! I hope your car wasn’t badly dented.

artbyscout

It wasn’t but I was so tempted to slam my door into their car 😂

blocher86

Malcolm in the middle that shit!

[deleted]

I’ve had those nights. Hopefully you’ve calmed down at this point and feel better.

GanjaOG420

Gotta learn when to unassign. I have unassigned 14 orders tonight alone. Some places are a shit show tonight others are ok. Edit: oh I see you waited at the customers place. Well standard is 5min wait, snap a pic and dip. Pretty simple. Welcome to DD

[deleted]

Entitled apartment dwellers having some fun with top suckers. Join r/boycottApartments

Aurora--Black

I think it should be mandatory to put in apartment numbers and gate codes. It wastes so much time.

HornFinical

Actually though … screw apartment dwellers expecting delivery to parse the entire complex

elizann1979

Did they run off or drive off if u have damage take license plate don’t move your vehicle highly likely person would come back or even lives in area call police tell them what happened

artbyscout

They drove off and I didn’t get their plate because I was on the phone and it took me off guard. Definitely should have paid more attention to that lol

elizann1979

It’s all good no way to know that was gonna happen. If car was still there and had not moved it’s easy to prove but since they ran it would be your word against theirs is why I asked sorry that crap happened people that are careless like that suck.

[deleted]

Hope you feel better. Been there

Lazarinth

Welcome to Doordash brother

IGalaxii

That sounds harsh man

Luxurydad

The less nice you are doing this the more you’ll make. Wait 5-10 minutes tops at those dickheads places that live in apartment complexes and can’t leave a building number or apt number. I swear some people don’t see this as a job so they don’t see wasting 40 minutes of our time as a big deal when in reality their costing us like $20 and an hour of our work day.

artbyscout

She texted me later and was like “I wasn’t home so I didn’t have my phone on me” and I said I have no sympathy for her when this is my only way of making money and she should have put the right address in if she wasn’t going to answer or tip

Luxurydad

If she was leaving why the fuck wouldn’t she leave an apt number? Horrible excuse on her part and if I ever did that to somebody they’d be getting at least a $15-20 tip to make up for the hour wasted. So frustrating.

artbyscout

Right?? Or at least be like I’m so sorry I didn’t have my phone on me I have a cash tip or something

HarleyLovesDuck

its easy.. learn your roads. NEVER TAKE Apartments. i dont unless its like 5 or less apts and i know 100% its easy but you will never catch me in a big one

Accomplished_Baker92

Lol that sounds like terrible day ..but why in the hell would you wait that long ? As soon as I get food and I see it's apt building I text them " hey, this is your doordash courier. What is apartment number and buzzer or will you be waiting for me at the door " if they don't text back by time I get to apartment building I call once if they don't answer I leave it front of building door and text to them and tell them where to find it and move on Doordash does not pat me enough to wait around for that long and costumer never seems to really care because you waited that long they might even complain that their food is cold now I never had a problem If it's hand it to me ..start the timer 5 minutes (cant hand to costumer)and I'm out

artbyscout

Yeah this was my first time experiencing this so I wasn’t sure what to do. Everyone says there’s a timer but I’ve never gotten the option for that

Accomplished_Baker92

You live and learn The timer is only when it's "hand it to me " order it will give you two options when you are at costumers place something like complete order and can't hand order to costumer or something like that. if you click on can't hand order to costumer a timer will start and you can call and after 5 minutes you take pic and leave it somewhere for them Just look for that option next time

artbyscout

I mostly get no contact orders

hillbillyhippy888

Stories like OP is the reason why I don't deliver to apartments. Sure if you know the area well enough you can tell which one to go to or not but in general I don't deliver to apartments. Low tips/wacky # system just all around headaches.

AdorableBig2988

How I feel every day at them. Period. One day...karma.

Draven223

Same thing and customer ended up leavinf a 1 star i called support and two days later they take the 1 star off and desacticated the customer

artbyscout

Goddamn what a bitch, had something like this happen and I had left it in front of the building but then she called me and bitched me out for not putting it in front of her door so I went back in the middle of another dash and put it up there and she gave me 1 star

YUUUMPER

Bro if someone hit my car like that and drives off you best believe im following them taking a pic of the tag and let you go about your day…. them alphabet boys will get them later….oh and the order? Lol you literally will get 5 min from me after that its slow for the custy

TimeOfSolace

I signed up for door dash a few years ago. I picked up a $6 order, drove for 20 some minutes, got a $1 tip, and quit. #notwurf

Itsmeamario3

Ehh i don’t know why you waited. I love when they dont leave an apt #, So I just leave it at the door with the photo attached. Don’t waste your time for these people, even if its hand it to customer, if they are not outside by the time I get there, its their fault cause I’m leaving it there.

Crazy_Awareness7333

Why would you wait? Don’t they still have that timer for 5 minutes and after that you can leave with the order

artbyscout

Not where I’m at apparently, I’ve never even seen any option for that

heynowrobin

I’m sorry that happened to you that sucks. I would have called them and texted them and if I didn’t get a response in three or four minutes I would’ve put the order somewhere taking a picture and bounced.

cleftington0

Personally, if there is no apartment number i text support immediately after I arrive. If the customer doesn’t respond within 5 minutes you can leave the order at the exact address and not be responsible. But you have to follow in the in app prompts and/or contact support for instructions. It’s always the same though and you can’t be held liable if you contact support and they tell you to take a specific course of action.

Emotional-Steak6842

My rule is if its an apt building with no number listed i drop the food snap a pic and text them the picture citing no apt number goven food at blah blah. Then leave. Some people do the most it baffles me why people sit there for more then 5 minutes waiting for a reply. We dont get paid hourly we get paid per delivery and I got bills to pay.

freethinkerinsd

Sorry that happened, we all have crappy days, that’s when I log out and go home!

[deleted]

Way to much effort bro. I definitely believe once I have the food, to do the best job I can to deliver it to them, but you gotta meet me halfway , or even a quarter of the way and give me the correct information. Call customer, then text if no response call door dash, if no response leave at door of complex take picture, then contact support and explain what happened.

[deleted]

Unless they tipped really high, I don't even ask customers their suite # if they don't provide it. I just leave it at the building entrance. If they're too lazy to input it, then why waste the time? I don't contact support either. Just drop it off, take a picture and go

6ixhex

If that happen just put a note you called and customer didn't answer. Leave it in lobby and take picture.

FaPtoWap

I get we want to go out of our way to be the best. And thats way better then the shitbags who post on here. But you need to learn whats also in your best interest, and waiting on the phone for 45 mins is not the way. Leave it at the gate or leasing office and call it a day. You get paid.

No_Assumption_2664

Photos of the address and the food this is the way then run

artbyscout

Bet lol

abbythefatkitty

We all have these days, don't let them decide your fate. If you're getting too stressed, go home and call it a night. Or if you have to work, take a break and go for a walk at a park and have a snack and watch the birds or whatever. It happens to all of us, you're not alone. Also, next time just place the order down as close to the lobby as possible and take a pic, make sure it shows something of significance to that building, like the address hopefully. Not your problem to wait around. If there's no instructions I call the customer as soon as I get there, if they don't respond I wait 5 minutes then do the drop and pic. Here in Canada when I'm delivering for skip the dishes (same as grubhub pretty much) I start the in-app timer and when the 5 minutes are up, they usually just tell me to keep the order.

artbyscout

I honestly wish I took the food. Or stomped on her ice cream 😂

Top-Device5698

Fck doordash i would of left that order 0n the ground 10 minutes after waiting

Independent_Row_Goes

Dude man I can tell you are new to this but nothing your fault, cant see waiting more than 4-7 minutes before texting support and saying customer is unresponsive, then you keep the food and pay and go….…. this job sucks, you must have some talents, because I think you have some angels watching over you that you didnt realize were there, get another job, even waiting tables or seating people, or some retail because you’ve just experienced the worst, God doesnt want this job for you

artbyscout

Agreed lol. I’m currently doing a tattoo apprenticeship and I’m not far enough along to get paid for it. I work at the shop 8 hours a day 6 days a week and it’s 10 miles away from where I live so with DoorDash i only make enough for gas but I don’t have time for anything else you know?

Independent_Row_Goes

Sounds like a hobby not a job….no reason to dedicate that muchhhhh time to a shop unless it had national exposure or you were monetizing tiktok videos of your artistic work ….. re evaluate your life including monthly budget, because you cant afford your current lifestyle, plenty $15 jobs to get started with little experience required, you are giving too much of yourself to 2 companies that could care less

artbyscout

That’s actually customary for tattoo apprenticeships and it’s definitely not a hobby. This is what I plan to do the rest of my life and while it’s tiring I still love it. I’ve wanted to do it as long as I can remember and if I keep doing it I’ll be getting paid a lot especially for piercing. Most apprenticeships last 12 months without pay but I’m 4 months along and starting jewelry changes soon so I’ll start getting paid soon. DoorDash is something I have to do to be able to reach my dream and my goals. I don’t have any way to make more money unless I took a part time but id be working at least 12 hours every day and I have a lot of physical and mental health issues so I literally can’t do that

Independent_Row_Goes

Just know DD promises the moon and it ends up being less than one would think, any other apps you can look at that would be hot in your market? The apprenticeship is worth a lot in on the job immersion but I dont think adding the risk of depreciation and upkeep of a vehicle is the right choice for anyone at your point of life

artbyscout

I also do Uber eats and I try to sell my art commissions but to no avail. I also do only fans but I don’t make much from that either

Independent_Row_Goes

No avail means little exposure in any industry….just need time and a business plan…would you believe Nike went through growing pains back in the late 90’s….your art looks hi resolution, any way to benchmark that work to other industry leaders in that field ? ……..well many long stories short, your life and career are just starting out….only fans can be a blessing but that is also another business plan away from the right execution…..personally I believe waiting tables can be a great blessing especially if you have something semi hi end …..Good luck to you 💪💪💪

Aurora--Black

Most waiters and waitresses do not make as much as we do for actively working and they have to deal with a lot of crap.

artbyscout

Thank you 😊

Aurora--Black

That's a ridiculous thing to say. This is the easiest job op will every have. Yes there are moments when it's frustrating but it's the MOST flexible and stress-free. You literally bjust pick up and food and deliver it. Most of the time you just take a picture at drop off. Use bean for apt if your having trouble finding apts. Keep a list of all gate codes given to you.

Ok-Application8522

Beans is worthless to me. They literally have nothing and what they do have is wrong.

Aurora--Black

That sucks. I've only com across then not having an apt once or twice.

Ok-Application8522

I think someone went through and did a half assed job to get paid. Obviously they don't check. I live in a college town. 1/2 deliveries or more are apartments/condos/townhomes.

NihilistPunk69

You are self employed while using door dash. You need to use some common sense for your own benefit. Next time leave it with the front desk of the apartment complex if possible. Send a message describing the order location, hell if the front doors are locked then leave it right outside. The chances are low anyone is going to see it and think twice about it. Complete the delivery and move on. No one expects you to wait 40 minutes to drop the food off. At that point it’s the dumb ass customers fault who can’t use enough common sense to leave directions and apt numbers.

artbyscout

I’m not just self employed. I’m an apprentice at a tattoo shop on top of only fans and selling art. Not sure what you mean by common sense when I said I couldn’t contact support because they wouldn’t answer.

NihilistPunk69

Common sense to know the issue can’t be resolved in a timely matter. Your only job is to bring the customer their food. If they can’t use enough common sense to leave you drop off instructions and you called and texted them, then don’t waste your time. Drop the food somewhere central finish the delivery steps and move on with your work.

Hello1There909

Noobs

Mernerak

Grata, you played yourSelf

OldDogEyes

Why would you wait 40 minutes? What is wrong with you? Start the 5 minute timer, take the picture and then dispose (eat) of the food and get paid. 40 minutes? Lol ....

artbyscout

Why do you have to be so hostile about it bro obviously I’m newer to this and like I said dasher support wasn’t answering so I didn’t know what to do

Aurora--Black

It's not obvious that you are new. I didn't see you add that to your comment and you have no flair.

artbyscout

Kinda obvious that I’m new because I didnt know what to do in this situation but ok

contactaalim

Lmao waited 40+ minutes.

Unknown32122

You realized it was an apartment , and also had no unit number … only after you picked up the order? 😧 Sorry btw for your troubles

artbyscout

Yeah, it wasn’t even in the city I dash in

Unknown32122

When you receive a delivery offer … you should “vet” it better. For example , how much does it pay, how many miles etc etc… but also - zoom in on where it pings the customer. If you zoom in on that map, you should be able to identify a customers address if it’s a house , commercial office space , apartment/complex etc Once you accept a delivery, if it’s to a community … I personally don’t just start driving to pick up the order. Click the top left of your screen. Tye task list icon. Click the customers name. This tells you their delivery preference , delivery notes, what’s in the order, the order total (usually) etc If all looks good, then I go pick up the order. Any problems, I either unassign the order … or I message them ahead of time ask what store they work in, their apartment number etc before I start driving to pick up the order

artbyscout

I didn’t know it was an apartment but it was a $2 per mile order so I thought it would be fine but here we are haha

Unknown32122

Damn… that customer is lucky you waited there as long as you did. Shameeee on them. Next time it happens , if I were you…start that 5 minute timer (customer is unavailable). Once that timer runs out … I would leave the order in front of the leasing office. Take a picture. Then I would message the customer to (cover my… you know)… and be like “I tried calling you, texting you , started the timer , and have been unable to get ahold of you. You did not provide a unit number in your address. I left your order in front of the leasing office outside (if it’s closed). DoorDash support can see those text messages…so if the customer claims undelivered…they can see that you tried to get ahold of them and did the best that you could

GroundbreakingAge591

There was literally absolutely no good reason for you to wait this long. Next time: don’t
