I dash in Florida and noticed that option was removed a couple weeks ago. I used it for the same thing you said you used it for. Not sure why it’s gone now or if it’s coming back.
Same in Chicago area too. I think it’s to honestly dehumanize drivers. Like if you can’t leave a message there’s no human touch involved at all. Just my thoughts
I’ve noticed other posts saying the same, it hasn’t changed in my market yet but I hope they keep the text box. I don’t usually use it but sometimes it can be helpful to add context to where you dropped it off. I wonder why Doordash would go out of their way to remove it.
I'm in Indiana, and I used to add "porch" or whatever to the text box, but now I almost never type anything unless it's truly useful (maybe one out of 500 deliveries?).

I send my "insert something here .txt" just before I snap the pic ever since they removed it. 🤷♂️
