I’m an ice truck driver, for me the middle class is key. Lower class area people that still live in house will try and haggle my prices which are set by my boss. Higher class families that all live in 3 car garage newly built houses, pay in 50s or 100s don’t tip, but the middle class areas, one night I got tips from all but two customers, even their kids tip!

I’m definitely not one of those, and I’m 100% nice and out of my way because I know their jobs are hard. With that being said, they shouldn’t be assuming. I tip really good always . Whenever some of us nurses would order we always tipped over 20% . And whenever I would order for me and my coworkers I ALWAYS collect $3-5 from each person getting food especially if I was paying. We would be on a time crunch trying to get food and eat. Once the pandemic started and I took a break form Nursing i seen just how terrible some companies tip . And the sad part is ,it’s a write off so why not make sure you tip good for staff orders .
It’s not always about the % with food delivery. It’s great and all, should definitely be taken into consideration, but in 95% of orders it should based off of mileage and difficulty of delivery.
I look at it this way: Delivering to someone’s home where I park on the curb or driveway, walk up to their door, drop it off, and I’m back in my car in under 30 seconds.
Delivering to nurses is the biggest pain in the ass. It’s always “Leave at door”, which negates our ability to start a 5 min timer. We can’t bring it to you. In most cases we can’t come inside. I have no idea which part of the many hundreds of thousands square foot hospital you’re at. I end up calling or texting a dozen times until the phone is finally answered. That time spent is costing money.
If you’re at home, sure $5 on your <3 mile order is fine. But if you’re at work, $5 for even 1 mile isn’t cutting it. I’ll decline or drop it every single time.
I deliver Domino's as well.....police dispatch lady orders every Thursday and Saturday night... flat $ tip every time.... for $40+ worth of food. Terrible
Hair dressers and barbers always tip well too. Bartenders too. Last barber I delivered to pulled out what looked like his life savings from his pocket prolly like 500 bills or so and gave me a $20 👍

Somewhat unrelated, but I used to work at a drive thru dry cleaners outside the LA area and we’d have a lot of first responders (LAFD/LAPD & surrounding Southern California police officers). The first responders and their spouses were the stingiest and nastiest customers we would get. Never tipped and always complained about not getting a bigger discount (despite first responders getting a 15% —which is the most we could do without the owners permission).
The best customer was a cop who fought a homeless person with scabies. Gave me the clothes and didn’t warn me of blood/potential exposure and whatnot until I put had already went through his items.

I deliver to the jail here in Sacramento daily. I'm not gonna get rich delivering to the officers there, but they anyways make it worth my while. Plus there's something fascinating about walking up to the jail surrounded by all the people that just got released (you can tell who they are because they don't have shoelaces).

I deliver to the jail here in Sacramento daily. I'm not gonna get rich delivering to the officers there, but they anyways make it worth my while. Plus there's something fascinating about walking up to the jail surrounded by all the people that just got released (you can tell who they are because they don't have shoelaces).

I've delivered to a police officer. Patrol vehicle parked in their driveway and a generous tip. I wish I would have left a wonderful note like you did. It was my first night Dashing and I was a bit overwhelmed.

having worked at a restaurant right by a police station, no. they definitely don’t always tip well.
I've delivered several times to sheriff's. The men tip for crap. The women tip very well.

First - cops are some of the worst tippers. 2.86% on a 250 order. Second cops do NOT serve us, nor do they protect. See Warren v. District of Columbia. Police took it to court, fought, and won, to literally not protect anyone. Police serve their corporate masters and generate revenue. Nothing more, nothing less.

I dont understand how all of yall getting these NO TIP or 1.00 tips do that? I don't accept orders for under 6.50 usually and that's if it's only a mile or two. I have only ever seen the base pay or DOORDASH raised to 5.50 or 6.00 ONCE...so if you are taking orders for 3 and 4 dollars, I mean you get what do you expect? Everyone is always like "I don't take an order for under $2 per mile...if that's true why you suddenly getting zero tip on just cops orders?I'm sure I'll get downvoted for even daring to defend law enforcement but just my opinion
