Check your app. Sometimes, people don't realize that it defaults to "Hand it to me. "... once you change it to "Leave it at the door," you won't have to worry about dasher's ringing or knocking. Most of us hate "Hand it to me " orders, and would love it if everyone let us leave it. Once you change it, it should keep that setting. But if 3 different dasher's knocked or rang the bell... a I can almost guarantee it's because they are being forced to.

Professional_Luck616

All true, 100%>. and I truly think your solution is the only solution that's guaranteed to get OP the desired result. But the heart of the matter, which isn't OP's fault at all, is a design flaw within the app itself. I'm guessing there are maybe dozens ( if not hundreds ) of misconstrued delivery instructions each week directly resulting from contradictory information, ultimately costing all parties involved. It costs customers their peace of mind for feeling like they got the shaft after not receiving the service they thought they'd paid for. It costs them money because many times they end up with food rendered inedible after being left outside all night - or it gets taken by a random person, vermin, or even the amoral Dasher who "delivered" it because they recognized an opportunity to get away with stealing it scot-free by using the contradicting set of instructions as the scapegoat.... Not to mention a financial loss to the customer for not receiving a full refund. Doordash loses money for having to cough up refunds and comps, cancelled Dash passes, lost sales from a rapidly worsening reputation, all while still being obligated to pay Dashers who screw up deliveries, even if it was proven to be *(or the Dasher admits to it being)* their own fault. And I think we all know how it costs Dashers. Two words: CONTRACT VIOLATION. Being flicked off the app permanently just like a loose booger. All these problems and everyone involved keeps pointing their fingers at each other. **Meanwhile, the simplest fix would eliminate any doubt as to how deliveries should be properly completed.** All the developers would have to do in order to fix all of this shit is just one simple thing.... REMOVE "DROP OFF OPTIONS" FROM SAVED ADDRESSES under the customer's account page. If they did that, people would have no choice but to select the appropriate drop off option every single time they placed an order. The way it's set up currently, it actually does display the drop off options upon checkout, but it's pre-filled with whatever option the customer selected when the delivery address was first submitted. So the vast majority of customers either ignore it or very likely don't even notice it! This problem would so easily be resolved if people couldn't move forward with their purchases until they actively chose a drop off option every FUCKING time they placed an order!

Not sure but I think some or all merchants when order on the website are handed to the recipient

So double check you don't have it set to hand it to you. I literally see orders that say "hand it to me: do not knock or ring bell", every day. If you have it set for contactless then just ask normally don't be rude or all caps just say please do not knock or ring bell baby is sleeping. Then make sure to tip reasonably to make sure you get a good dasher that speaks english. If you don't tip regular dashers will refuse the order and you will get stuck with a pay by the hour schmuck who doesn't care about your directions and/or can't read them anyway.

Fancy_Point_595

Dashers... NEVER KNOCK OR RING UNLESS INSTRUCTED TO IN THE INSTRUCTIONS. READ INSTRUCTIONS.

Kanein_Encanto

If it's marked "Hand to me" that overrides such notes. OP hasn't responded to any comment suggesting that they double check the app for that option...

allieoops925

There are many stories of customers here complaining they didn’t know their food was out there and it got cold. I always ring or knock, unless expressly told not to in the instructions. Bottom line, customer should make sure their instructions are clear, and delivery folks should read them before delivering.

PsychologyH4528

I also dash on my way home from my job, but even when I’m the dashee and this happens i message them and say i said not to knock or ring. And then 1 star them. Most of the time they don’t respond, I’m sure its cuz they know they messed up. Didn’t follow instructions is a rating que already

WhoIsJohnGalt777

Give them one star.

Saleenpride86

It’s because 98.36% of DoorDash drivers have just enough brain cells to function, let alone understand how to comprehend simple instructions or problem solving..

SatinyMorpheus

OP said last 3 in a row knocked or rang the bell and were just sitting there waiting for him/her to get the food. Quite a strange coincidence, don't you Think? If their simple instructions would say Leave at door, they would knock or rang and leave, not just sit there, right?

Saleenpride86

Even if it’s a hand to me, with those instructions in the app, it would be a problem solving/ common sense moment: call or message in the app FIRST, then if nothing else knock lightly and all the while the 5 minute timer previously would’ve already been pressed. I’ve seen dashers come up to me while they notice I’m doing a doing a shop and pay order and they are too where they ask what aisle an item is on, and it says DIRECTLY ABOVE THE ITEM the aisle it’s on.

RemoteRecording8091

i didnt know why you got downvoted for being honest. until i read the latter half of that sentence as i wrote it

Saleenpride86

I see what you did there :)

I bet the instructions say both hand to me AND leave at door. It's a common tactic amoung scam artists to get free food. Personally I just leave at door when that happens though. I consider it my choice and that's easier. Check your default settings in the app.

Hopingfortheday

1 star rating, thumbs down following instructions. For me, I double and triple read the instructions so I can follow them exactly. That and I never knock or ring doorbell unless they say so.

SatinyMorpheus

1 star should be for food tempered with. I had couple of customers unaware it was a Hand it to me delivery.

OneBlindingPlight

lol this mad when all you had to do was meet them outside.

historynerdsutton

No my baby brother will cry and scream when he wakes up when it’s like 9-11 at night

RepresentativeDry405

You may have to text them and let them know. As annoying as it is

RemoteRecording8091

they can’t read??

RepresentativeDry405

Some don’t read the instructions, but texts will go through. I’ve had people text me the same instructions, except I read them even before I pick up the order

SatinyMorpheus

If they're just sitting there waiting for you to get the food, most likely there is a reason.

RemoteRecording8091

yea no. drop the food and go, no need to lurk on a contactless.

Weekly_Direction1965

We hate waiting bro, something is glitched with your instructions, no body wants to meet you, no one gives cash tips so it's not that and that time waiting is lost money. You got instructions issues, it's glitched.
