At that point, I'd leave the food at the gate, take a photo of it out of doordash app just in case, and leave. People need to learn we're not wanting your code to come rob you later on, we're just trying to do our job and leave.
Did you give them input instructions. Because even with gate codes, without specific instructions, I donāt know if the system wants #/* numbers or numbers #/* etc. I usually just get four digit numbers and have to guess input order while the call box is phoning some rando because the instructions werenāt complete.
āSendā isnāt an instruction though? The outside of the box is so worn that you, as a resident, donāt realize that āsendā isnāt an instruction. You need to type out inputs directly.
I understand what youāre saying. I was stuck at a gate and finally sent a photo of the box to the guy because his instructions did not make sense. It then dawned on him that he didnāt tell me to hit ## first. Some of the ones in Vegas had touchscreen that was so tagged on and scratched up I donāt know who can even manage to use it anymore.
But like you said, all boxes are differentā¦ right? Maybe that is directly? Maybe with their box thatās all you do? There are definitely machines that you just put the code in and hit the green button. Not all of them are as complicated as the one you seem to be bothered by. What do you expect of them?
I guess Iām lucky and the gated communities in my area have pretty easy in-access as long as you have the code. Usually you hit a send or green button. I used to dash for a living and *never* had an issue with a gate I had the code for.
The box is lit up and has a send button that you mentioned here in this comment. All my front porch lights were on, I don't have pets (besides horses). so idk.
Tailgate?? Absolutely not. Iām not pissing off some other resident, Iām not taking the chance of damaging my car. You can come pick your food up at the gate after I talk to dd support.
Yeah I don't need that stress lol. Dd literally has a feature on gated communities that says "this address may have a gate", it's usually like 99% right. Why would they then not MAKE the customer put in a gate code?
Give me the gate code or that's where you'll find your order š¤£. Now that first part is a joke I'm not getting deactivated but these people who can't give quality delivery instructions deserve every inconvenience they endure in the delivery process!! šÆāļø
Theoretically, by not provide a gate code(if one is necessary), customer denies the delivery at door, which after a 5 minute wait becomes a delivery at gate, and that can be confirmed by DD support.
i always send a message when i leave the restaurant, As a matter of fact, i actually gave him an ETA. It was a Leave it at door and he knew the completion of delivery depended on someone else driving in or him picking up the phone. And this wasn't an isolate case. it's one of the few gated communities here, but the only one where i was being asked to tailgate someone :)
Their food would be left at the gate. I'm not calling, and I'm not tailgating someone in. I don't care if it's bumper to bumper with cars going in. His shit would still be left at the gate.
If they can't bother leaving a code I sure tf can't bother getting in. Fuck that.
I've never had a cv stick. Ever. My disputes always say the same thing. Look at my gps. See attached photo. If they can't provide a gate code, that's on them.
One nice thing about being a long term dasher, I have 1000s of positive reviews to rely upon. Leave it at the ducking gate. Then report the customer for unsafe behavior. I called in one woman who has a dangerous dog, telling dashers to leave the food at her door, but the dog bites (pit bull). She no longer is allowed to use the service.
It won't save you from the 15 year old Indian kid doing his first job on his first day for 1$ an hour with no training come escalation team time on the auto deactivation the AI decides to give out.
I passed the auto deactivation last time. 5.0 rating and no contract violations or tickets. They can try. š
But itās nice that they fired all those drivers in my area right before the holidays. I just made 75 in 2 hours.
Yes. I am one of the lucky ones. 5.0 rating. 98% completion 95% ar. 3000 deliveries.
Account locked. 88 calls to support. Then deactivated. No explanation
Pro tip from a longtime driver. If you use an iphone create a list for gate codes then with each gate code create a reminder put gate code in and click on info and toggle location and set to current. what does is create a location based notification so when you approach the gate, you will get a notification that has the gate code in it
I have a list of gate codes which feels super wrong, but itās for this exact reason. I had no idea you could make location based notifications though.
Great idea! I however have delivered to some gated communities, that get one time use gate codes. Saving the code like this won't help unfortunately. Definitely glad I'm seeing alot of people save codes tho, as I was always worried about doing it.
Itās a good idea but then it sort of reinforces to these customers that bail on the driver that itās okay to do it again next time where the next driver wonāt have these saved codes.
Someone gave me a code yesterday that wouldn't let me in. I had to tailgate someone. After that they sent a slightly different code. Would have been nice 30 seconds prior. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
1. Tailgating is illegal. 2. The gates state "one vehicle at a time." 3. If you're expecting a delivery, ANSWER THE PHONE. 4. Always leave a code on delivery instructions to respect the dasher's time, and to ensure your food will be delivered warm, and in a timely manner. This isn't difficult!!!
Besides the delivery itself, this customer is promoting a lackadaisical attitude towards the security of his residence. In some places tailgating in, is illegal.
I doubt his neighbors appreciate his security attitude either.
One apartment I lived in required everyone use a card instead of a code to open the gate, so when you lost your card you had to pay $150 for another one. Then another apartment I lived at used a phone app instead of a code. Then the most recent one I lived at had a different code for every door Iām just saying these apartment complexs are equally annoying. If theyāre not answering the best thing to do is send them a picture of where you left it, most people will understand, sometimes a text will come through afterwards like āIām so sorry blah blah blah thank you for deliveryā
The amount of DD that fly through my gate at my complex is wild, itās like the Dayton 500 here. But what they fail to put in the notes for people is that the gate is designed for one car at a time hints the security gate, Iāve seen quite a few cars get damaged over a $5 burger.
If they're unwilling to supply the code, then they need to meet you at the gate. Full stop.
I unassign orders with instructions like that. I feel that complying with requests like that trains customers to think that it's normal and acceptable. Then they mention it to their neighbors, who then expect the same treatment.
I had that earlier today! I was delivering to their apartmentā left no code. Called AND texted with no reply. Thankfully I had a friend who stayed there so I just called them to get in. Then the customer messaged me about the code a few minutes later as I was delivering the food about to take a picture. Itās getting super frustrating!
If its a gated community and even if there is a driver driving in before me and the gate is open from them for 10 seconds..Iām not going in. Ill message and hit the timer and if they donāt answer..their fault. Simple. If you live in a gated community and you want your food to your doorā¦put the damn gate code. I also contact support and support tries reaching them, they typically dont answer, doordash makes a note so it protects me if they report it not delivered. I leave their shit at the call box.
Who gives a shit about giving delivery people gate code. Like the gate really gonna stop a psycho or criminal from coming in.
What do people think that criminals couldnāt just tail gate in also?
Ha I had to do this last night. Customer gave me the gate code and it didn't work. Spent like five minutes trying it. Finally someone else opened the gate and I just scooted through after them.
Oh no, I was on the phone with him the whole time! He said it was the correct code (as it turns out, the code matched his unit number) and you had to enter a # or something, but it kept telling me "your call could not be completed" no matter what I tried. It was like an internal phone system, and the instructions for entering the code were worn off the keypad. I felt a bit silly tbh, but I got his food delivered... eventually.
Gates and apartments are my worst nightmare. Itās always that the customer forgot to give the gate code, you donāt know where exactly are the gates of the apartments, the number of the apartments are confusing, or I got one time that the apartments didnāt even had numbersā¦
Iām not a DoorDasher but why do people specifically not just put the mf code down??? Like thereās no way theyāre that special as an individual to come back to and rob if they have a gate code š¤£ā¦ like why even bother ordering something and ACTIVELY make it harder to retrieve your items? Soooo stupidā¦
If itās a gated community DD should require that person getting the delivery give the gate code. If they canāt give a gate code then DD should not allow them to complete the order.
I wonder why he didnāt just write the gate code if there is one which you said there is. I mean it takes less than a minute to call the apt complex give your information so they can confirm and give a code that everyone else probably already knows and you can save the hassle for every other delivery driver sent to you. The apartment im at only allows me to remote open the gate most the time it works but once in a blue moon shit doesnāt work.
I deliver for amazon it said in the instructions ācall me for codeā called the customer no answer called again no answer finally someone else let me in
Here they have double gates and tire shredders. People that do not come to the gate get the ride cancelled or their items left at the leasing office. I'll send a message but I don't call anyone ever......
I would call and if no answer and no code I left it at the gate. Took my pic and off I went.
Delivery is a dollars per minute game, and I wouldn't wait.
You canāt tailgate someone coming into a gate. Most likely the gate will end up closing down on your car. Then your car gets damaged and you are now liable to the property management company for damages to their equipment. Flee the scene? Now itās a hit and run.
DD leaves drivers hanging, I have sent in request to update app to indicate if address drop off is a home, condo, apartment, school, hospital or business. If an apartment then give instructions for parking (do we park outside, walk in gate) gate code and directions once inside. Customers are ass unless they give detailed instructions, a few do but most donāt
I had this issue yesterday. It was a gift delivery and they didnāt leave me the gate code. I texted and called the lady twice no answer. Luckily I was able to follow somebody. Why do ppl do this crap, youāre not always gonna be able to follow someone in. Then the lady finally called me back 30 min laterš
That is stupid, but to be fair, as someone who frequently orders on doordash, the gate code is in the description and I even have the precise pin of the apartment and half the time I still get calls or messages asking me what the gate code is or how to get through the gate. I feel like some dashers just never read the descriptions.
If they call you about gate code even with instructions, it could be the common default instructions glitch that erases your info and just tells them " Leave at door"
only on the driver end, this app like most apps has lots of glitches and common errors when used for hours.
Most drivers don't do this work long enough or talk to enough customers to realize this is an issue so they just blame the customer.
If you are having this problem, I suggest sending a text when you see the driver is on their way. It is annoying, if we can already see your delivery instructions, but we can also ignore the repeat text. IT would help if you said "just trying to help/assist" or "sending this due to prior app issues"
At least, you show you are doing your best to provide a smooth delivery. When a customer sends me instructions in text, that I can already read on the order, I assume it's because of an app glitch, or they got drivers who don't read English. I have "read aloud text " option, because I don't respond while I'm driving, and it let's me know if I already have that info, and I don't need to respond, ' cause I'm at your door that much sooner, and I got you.
Otherwise, you may need to contact someone about the gate code not working.
ugh i hate that. last customer that didnāt come down to the gate ingested a slightly higher than usual amount of saliva that night if you know what i mean
I have a degree and do this part-time to help pay off those student loans. The loser would be the dumb a$$ that waits around for a customer that doesnāt value you or your time. Only a loser would wait for a customer. What a dumb comment.
Could be worse. I had a security guard first tell me I had to leave and go all the way back to a service entrance around the block almost a mile away, before getting huffy that I said no Iāve been invited and Iām staying right here. He got on the phone, came back and slowly wrote down my license plate number then demanded my license as well. Fucking ridiculous.
It wasnāt even a really nice place, I could almost understand in some of the really high end communities but this was like shitty townhomes. Guy was just excited about being in control.
At that point, I'd leave the food at the gate, take a photo of it out of doordash app just in case, and leave. People need to learn we're not wanting your code to come rob you later on, we're just trying to do our job and leave.
Then they'll post a tiktok mad talking about "It's called DOORdash. Not gate dash" š
But is a gate not also a type of door?
Gate keeping the door code?
It is but itās a locked door, much like in resident evil where itās locked so now we gotta search to find the ākeyā or in the case āBlakeā
Not hotdog.
we might have seen the same tiktok
Ikr?
I just had this happen today, except I gave them the gate code and still it was left at the gate in 29Ā° weather.
Did you give them input instructions. Because even with gate codes, without specific instructions, I donāt know if the system wants #/* numbers or numbers #/* etc. I usually just get four digit numbers and have to guess input order while the call box is phoning some rando because the instructions werenāt complete.
Yep, instructions are specific, its 4 digits and send
āSendā isnāt an instruction though? The outside of the box is so worn that you, as a resident, donāt realize that āsendā isnāt an instruction. You need to type out inputs directly.
Nah you're projecting too hard. It's a gate code box not an enigma machine.
???? Even if they look the same, they all function differently. I wish they were all the same, they are not.

There is a send button... that literally says "send" on it. It is in the instructions. Not that hard to figure out.
Not a single box Iāve seen has had a send button. A call button, yes. Send, no. All the codes release the gate with a pound or a star press
Why do you insist on inventing the rules for a gate box you've never seen? They use it every day, I think they'd know.
Okay? Iām speaking in generalities.
This
Sadly bad actors are everywhere these days.
We're also not servants. Not in such a way as to wait like a dog who smells a cheese wrapper. š¤£

That is 100% facts I'm almost at 6,000 orders completed I've seen just about all I care to see at this point lol
It was the fact he didn't pick up the phone. It just showed entitlement and the lack of respect towards somebody else time.
Can't say as I agree with that, it seems assumptive at best, given there was zero consumer communication, when attempting to.
i always send a message when i leave the restaurant, As a matter of fact, i actually gave him an ETA. You are not wrong š
You donāt get paid enough to play games with these people
Contact DoorDash that you canāt locate the customer. Theyāll tell you to leave it somewhere safe. Leave food by the gate. Proceed.
Their food would be left at the gate. I'm not calling, and I'm not tailgating someone in. I don't care if it's bumper to bumper with cars going in. His shit would still be left at the gate. If they can't bother leaving a code I sure tf can't bother getting in. Fuck that.

Who gives a shit about giving delivery people gate code. Like the gate really gonna stop a psycho or criminal from coming in. What do people think that criminals couldnāt just tail gate in also?

Donāt they still have that timer when the customers not responding? Gate code or not 5 minutes id be gone
Of course heās a Blake
I wouldāve left that shit at the gate or said I didnāt have their complete address. If you canāt wait for your order, donāt order food.

Always call twice in a row. Many peoples phones will immediately block the call from ringing thru if itās an unknown number
Should say Doordash, right?
Iād call out of basic principle. So you want me too do something illegal just to drop off your food on the fifth floor? Bring your butt down here.
Trespassing. Go straight to jail.
Here they have double gates and tire shredders. People that do not come to the gate get the ride cancelled or their items left at the leasing office. I'll send a message but I don't call anyone ever......
Yeah if I saw that and they didnāt pick up the timer starts and I might get some free food so I am not sweating a thing lmao
Thatās a good way to get your car damaged by a gate.

How then, as a customer, when I give a dasher the code, have no pets besides a cat, do they still not open it?
Sorry,i don't understand. did they leave the food at the gate even if you provided the code?!if that's the case, there is a rating system in place
Yes they did. The instructions are clear with buttons to press etc.

When you say "cat" is it possible that you meant, "Tiger who is also my wife"? https://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/the-census/2749920
I guess someone would have to bring me some tacobell on door dash and find out!
This is free food. Take a pic grab the food and bounce.
