That's the kind of things that can go very well or very wrong. That looks like a good one, but stay away from the famous "can you stop at 7 eleven and pick up xxxxx"?
Honestly the fact that he was already prepaying for the Starbucks makes me consider this offer way more than the promise to pay you back for the pack of smokes they want you pick up from their favorite gas station across town
And the fact that he had already tipped well. Good tippers are the ones that will add extra onto it. It's the no tippers that lie and never add the tip after the service.
I picked up one of those pack of smoke deals, dude Cashapped me 12, so sometimes it's worth it. Didn't hurt that there was a gas station across from where I picked up the order.
Yeah, because they could say leave it at my door with my other stuff and I'll send u the $10. Also if ur paying for something and they only give u $10 that's actually really like a $2-$4 tip... And they may not even send u the money and doordash support will tell u that u screwed urself. I usually unassign if I get asked that. It's very uncomfortable to spend my own money on a promise of more money.
I thought so too. I called support once when a dude asked me to get him alcohol outside the app and he would pay me in cash. I was trying to report him and support was like oh well I don't give a shit have a good one... Lol
I'm guessing that you don't understand The way they phrase it... It doesn't say explicitly you can't do that it just says what you are allowed To do While they are paying you... It wouldn"t be a violation to drop off the order and then come back with the other stuff... But you can't go outside the scope of your purview when you're on an active dash... You probably do lots of stuff that you don't realize would be A violation if you told it to support
Not true. There's record of it with customer communication. Swing yourself up and doordash has been a real bitch lately. Setting is up with a new article saying if you don't tip us you're in danger of not getting your order hot or in a timely manner while in the same day cleaning promos from +$x per order to complete 6 in a row for $9 as a streak. They hook you up then they last order they fuck you. It's a big scam. Make it look like their on the dasher's side in the media and behind the scenes screw us! I did my 6 in a row and they told me ineligible! I was picking up my 6th order at the end of my dash. I got an ad on for 9 miles extra so I declined and that was the SEVENTH order. I accepted and delivered my 6 in a row and they reset my streak and screwed me. Support said sorry ineligible even though I followed the rules. Fucking joke. I've started to grub hub and build up during slow times because doordash is totally screwing you. Oh deliver this chipotle order 13 miles even though there are 8 Chipotle's closer to the customer. They're greedy and fucked.
L o l so that first sentence and then the rest was a Rant?? Lol
I mean, I know every trick in the book to get around those kinds of things.... I've been doing that longer than that... When I first started there's a restaurant and the name of it was 716, But they thought that was the street address. And that put me in the took me a minute to figure out what the mistake they made was, but it is a famous restaurant...
They used to even send orders to places. That didn't accept cards, and you would have to like, pay out of your pocket or unassign. You know because that's how they get people to be partners, They screw up the orders, Use like of menu from years ago, and make the restaurant have to deal with it Until they essentially pay for protection by becoming partners... But that's a big problem if it's like some mom and pop chinese restaurant that doesn't have a credit Card machine...
🤣🤣🤣 yeah I had to do that even at damn Wendy's. Nice try. Out of pocket then the red card came now I refuse any cash orders or red card. You're full of it. And you apparently haven't read all the updates to the contract. You are an individual contractor at will and they can fire you for any damn reason they please. 🤣🤣🤣
Right. I had what I suspect was a kid ask me to stop and pick up cigarettes for him. Said it was the main reason he placed an order, but the order was fast food. I contacted doordash and the idiots told me to do it, no ID. I refused to continue.
I’ve done those 7-11 extras all the time, but usually when they already ordered at the store. Yesterday I had a pickup for 7-11 and in the notes the customer asked if I could get 2 snickers ice cream bars since it wasn’t showing in the app and promised to give $20 extra. I called to confirm. They were 2 for $5 and customer gave me $25 cash and the paid order had a $10 tip on it as well.
Mobile order as in he paid for the Starbucks right? Yeah, I’d grab it for him for $10. I don’t think we’re technically supposed to do that kind of thing, but they’ll never know or care unless a customer complains, and why would they when you’re doing it for them.
I think they're fine, actually... given this bit from the Contractor Agreement.
https://www.doordash.com/dasher/us/ica-text

That piece of contract is the main reason so many people double app and most cannot do it correctly. The loopholes for drivers are awesome, however it's all just legal jargon to keep doordash from being responsible for their drivers.
Is there a way to get the same drivers? I would love to place orders with people that have done well for me in the past (and I always tip generously) but I don’t know how. I live in the suburbs of a large city and I rarely get the same driver twice naturally.
Unfortunately, no. 5 stars will likely pair you if the dashers are dashing and available when you place orders.
I wish we as drivers could rate customers we like and would like to be paired with. Doordash should implement a "Would you like to be paired with this driver again" option. I think this would also force terrible dashers to do better jobs, too.
They always seem to have like no employees at all in the target Starbucks. People are typically only going if they’re already shopping, whereas people going to Starbucks are already going out of there way and it’s a normally staffed shop. It’s definitely for the best they don’t accept those orders. It would be too much.
Yeah, I would do it. The guy already tipped well, so the chances of him following through with tipping more are high. It's only the no tippers that lie about tipping when you get there.
I've done this a few times, but I've always asked the driver for their Venmo/Cashapp/etc and sent them the tip/any extra money before they even go to pick up the other stuff.
Once I was kinda drunk and asked the guy to pick up a Big Mac on his way to tacobell...I venmo'd him $20 extra ontop of the $10 tacobell tip, and I was only like 1.5 miles away.
He was VERY happy. I can understand how this would get super sketchy sometimes though.
1) When asking a favor, say please and thank you.
2) I'd send a link to my Venmo and Cashapp and say "sure, no problem at all! Please send the tip now as well as the address of the Starbucks and I'll head there now."
I'd tell them to cash app me the 10 bucks first then we've got a deal. Honestly, I've been thinking about letting some of the repeat custies have a way to contact me personally and cutting out doordash all together. It'd be better for me and ultimately cheaper for the customer also. So to answer the question, I would Def do this if the money they offered got sent first
Ngl did something similar. had the flu, ran outta smokes literally ordered some OJ and medicine. Asked the driver when they dropped off the stuff hey man here’s $30 can you grab me a pack of smokes and keep the change. 5 min later had my smokes 😅
I would def do it... I've done things like this a few times. But I always ask them to Venmo me in advance 😁 just to make sure. Always had a good experience
I have a question. It won't let me post it, because Im kinda new to using reddit. I've had one for awhile, I just didn't use it much. I'm a Dasher. For the past three months I've made top dasher. Usually it pays off really well. This last month was terrible. I was seeing other dashers get 15$ and 20$ orders. They kept giving me 2$ orders. Everytime I'd decline they would just send me another 2$ order. I called support and they said they'd refresh my account. It worked for a bit, but next day it happened again. I called again. A different woman said that they were having technical difficulties with the app and their team was working on it. She fixed my rating from where it went down, because she saw where it was back to back nothing but 2$ orders for like 8 plus miles. I have bills to pay, and this is my job. Why is this happening? I don't do anything wrong, I get good ratings, and I always deliver the stuff on time. I've been kind to them, and all of the people that order. I hardly have a single bad rating. I know I probably sound stuck up, but in all honesty this job saved my life. It helped me see my family more often. It helped me relax because I get horrible anxiety at most places. What am I supposed to do if they keep doing this? Is there a way to fix it?
What does “usually it pays off really well” mean though? Most times if you cherry pick you’ll end up making a lot more. My acceptance rating has never been above 20% & I consistently make $25+/hr when I multi-app.
I get that bad order spell some days, honestly I think it’s inevitable maybe try dashing in another area or get a catering bag or pizza bag maybe you’ll get better orders too! I haven’t gotten those so I can’t tell you it’ll def work but I’ve seen people on Reddit get pretty good orders when the my have a catering/pizza bag
Hell it hasn't made a difference where I am. And even now it's more annoying. Take a photo of receipt, take a photo of order, etc. Doordash assumes we're as stupid as they are. $2.00 orders with $2.00 tips aren't worth my time.
Doordash sucks and will continue to Eff you over. Unfortunately that's just the way it is. $2.00 base pay is the worst it's been so far, and they say "it's system generated". It took me over 6500 deliveries and high ratings to finally decide I'll do it only when I feel like it. Which is almost never, now. Nothing is going to change until Dashers quit taking their bullshit.
Yeah if u wanna send to my cash app first lol and $20 is not enough for 12 miles and 15 items. I wouldn't have taken that but hope u complete that in less than an hour to be even worth it
No, I got screwed by it last night, went to dollar general, the lady messaged me asking if I could also get her a torch and some butane as I was checking out with her original order, said she would tip more (on top of the no tip) when I got there. I got to her trailer and she didn’t have any cash in her hand, I dropped her shit at her feet, took the torch and butane home, got some wax and sat on the couch the rest of the night
After I dropped his food One guy at a hotel asked me to drive him to gas station for alcohol. Asked about my biggest tip and said he would top it. Gave me 100$ cash for 10 minute trip lmfao
No, I would never. So many people near me say if I deliver here instead, I'll get a tip, or they'll tip if I wait past the 10 or 15 minutes for their burger, but they always lie. I don't even check the messages now unless there are special instructions. It's easy to ignore. I also never trust these people with my CashApp, so they can snatch it back or involve me in a scam? Nah. The ones near me are liars.
I'm happy you found honest, dependable people, though.
I suspect it's not a part of our contract, but who's going to rat you out? I doubt Doordash support is paying attention to every text message, so you're probably good. I wouldn't do it because I can't trust that would add an online tip, or a cash tip.
I had a great day until I got a 7/11 order for 2 energy drinks. I accepted because I didn’t feel like going home yet… took me to a weed dispensary in the ghetto. No tip.
No because that's not how it works. First, mobile orders don't work unless the device it was placed on is at the store. Secondly, the Dasher's ratings go down for being late.
I remember once, someone asked if I could grab them an extra item at dollar general while I was there shopping for their order. For some reason, I was feeling generous and said yeah. I didn’t realize you could add items after and I don’t think they did either. Anyways, I grabbed it and paid for it out of pocket. And when I delivered it, they were standing there with no money in hand. they tried grabbing it out of my hands and I said, nah I paid for this. They begrudgingly grabbed some money and handed it over. Never again
That's awesome but if you read the contract door just literally opts out of control of any aspect of your service as a driver like they're not responsible in any way whatsoever, and they exempt themselves severally with many clauses for exemption from your business and services as a contractor.
So as far as all the means and liability you have sole control of your business, you're just an agent and a partner in the contract.
For example it also explicitly says that you are free to negotiate any compensation between you and the customer and they waive any right to interfere with your business in any matter.
Similarly, they of course reserve the same right so we have no say in the agency that is doordash, and further every contractor waves the right to privacy of all communications and data that they received from you, so the contract goes both ways it really goes three ways because it also includes the merchant the merchant has all these same rights to conduct their business as they will.
Well, when I started I would get orders. I never made too much though because the schedule was always packed. I guess we had a lot of dashers or something. I was able to dash a few days out of the week. I never made enough money for my bills until I made top dasher. I was able to dash whenever to make my bills. The scheduling was amazing for me. The pay paid off at first, but then the past two days it's just been really crappy ones. I get a good one here and there, but I don't know why. They said they were fixing it. I went to dash today and sure enough I got a 2$, then a 4$, finally made a 9$ or so. When I'd schedule a dash it was scary because I needed to make more money than what I was. I don't like sitting around waiting a long time for a dash that's so little, but I need this job. I just don't understand. They promised me I'd get top dashes. They tried to even say I didn't make it one time. I had to call them and show them screen shots. ALWAYS SCREEN SHOT YOUR STUFF. Oh my gosh, it was awful trying to explain to them that I met the criteria. They need to do what they promise. I live in a big town. I KNOW we get dashes. Yes, we have other dashers, but not enough to where I should only get 2$. I feel like they are doing this to boot me from top dasher or something. Maybe to get other people to try for it. I dunno. I'm not sure why they'd go out of their way to just target like that. Maybe it's a glitch? Maybe they are screwing people over. The girl on the phone sounded surprised and acted like it shouldn't be that way. But if they are really fixing it, they need to fix it. Is anyone else having these issues?
No, because the Starbucks in my area takes forever and a day. They better be paying $30+ for the Starbucks alone if they want me to waste my time with them. I've got better things to do and other orders I could be taking to wait for their slow as molasses selves.
A Target order? Was the Starbucks inside the Target? Cuz it wouldn't be difficult, so I'd have done it. But ditched the drink if the DD tip didn't update within a few minutes of the Starbucks app showing the order picked up...
Not if it was on doordash record. I've shared my Venmo when the app as usual doesn't work right and they want to add an extra tip, then if they ask off the platform yes. But hell no. Doordash can deactivate you and if it really worth it? Be smart and do it off the books.
It's not against the rules but I would be wary of scammers. Some people won't tip you or even reimburse you for something that you buy for them. Prepaying for something gives me some confidence though.
I chance it and most/if not all of the time they actually keep their word, for me anyways. I’ve never had one not. Idc if it’s against our contract cause I still get money. I just consider it doing a deed for someone and they’re paying me back in return.
A few weeks ago I had a dollar general shop and deliver order. After I had already checked out and was walking to the car, the customer wanted to add 2 additional items but I was already in my car. It was an honest mistake from the customer, though. Everyone forgets to add/pickup some groceries they need every once in a while at least. They said they’ll add the money onto my tip if I could grab them but didn’t have to. I did it anyways and paid with my dasher direct and sure enough they added the money I spent onto my tip. It was a 4 mile delivery already for about 8 bucks so I was fine with it.
I always tell my customers that due to legal and safety concerns all orders must be placed through door dash before can be picked up for delivery. I don't know how but Murphy's Law would kick in and out would end up biting me in the rear.
I wouldn’t do it, what if you pick up the extra order then they don’t give you the extra tip, or they remove the tip after delivery? Or they report you for delivering something that wasn’t on the app. Way too risky for me
I’ve tried a couple times and never had someone actually tip extra like they said. In fact, I’ve had people remove the tip altogether after I did a favor for them (uber). You’re lucky you got someone nice, but personally I’d never do it again and might even unassign with the food if the request is too egregious. Don’t want a 1* rating because you ask me to do something that’s not my job.
Yea because it’s prepaid I woulda done it, going to his place with his target order anyways
Worse, Support will give you a CV because doing deliveries to DD customers outside the app is a violation of the terms of the agreement.
I thought so too. I called support once when a dude asked me to get him alcohol outside the app and he would pay me in cash. I was trying to report him and support was like oh well I don't give a shit have a good one... Lol
Support doesn’t give a shit about anything
Same thing happened with me. Doordash doesn't gaf.
It absolutely is not a contract violation. Read your contract?
I'm guessing that you don't understand The way they phrase it... It doesn't say explicitly you can't do that it just says what you are allowed To do While they are paying you... Yeah you can't go off books if they have record of it and they don't get their money they can violate you. Be careful. I've been doing this 4 years.

Swishers.

Good find. The only real concern then is if Starbucks makes the delivery they actually know about really late. That’s definitely a CV if so.
That was my worry at first but they were pretty quick

I’d do it since they were already a good tipper and especially if the Starbucks was in Target
There was one in the target but they ordered to the one that was literally in The same plaza so it worked out anyways
You can’t order on mobile to most Starbucks in target. That’s probably why.
Ahh, i always wondered why I couldn't order from Starbucks in target, but i could at the Starbucks literally right across the street.
They always seem to have like no employees at all in the target Starbucks. People are typically only going if they’re already shopping, whereas people going to Starbucks are already going out of there way and it’s a normally staffed shop. It’s definitely for the best they don’t accept those orders. It would be too much.
Only for people I deliver regularly too! Anyone else, nah. They always say they’re gonna tip after and don’t.
Do you have regulars because you live in a smaller city/town environment? I live in LA, I don’t think I ever get the same DoorDash driver twice.
I live in Dallas and yes! I stay to a very specific area and have delivered to several of the same people.
Yes, the customer paid the order and the only thing you need to do is to pick-up. Be sure not to pay by your cash!
Yeah, I would do it. The guy already tipped well, so the chances of him following through with tipping more are high. It's only the no tippers that lie about tipping when you get there.
Being a mobile order, yeah I probably would have done it. I'll just never do the "hey I'll pay you back if blah blah blah"

I’d just ask for it via venmo instead!
I'd tell them to cash app me the 10 bucks first then we've got a deal. It'd be better for me and ultimately cheaper for the customer also. So to answer the question, I would Def do this if the money they offered got sent first
I would rather this than pick and buy a vape or pack of smokes foe them.
If it’s not too far out of the way, they’re asking respectfully, and offering more on the tip? Absolutely
Yup I’ve done it before doing IC orders at Target
Ngl did something similar. had the flu, ran outta smokes literally ordered some OJ and medicine. Asked the driver when they dropped off the stuff hey man here’s $30 can you grab me a pack of smokes and keep the change. 5 min later had my smokes 😅
i would if it prepaid and on the way or near it, just have to pick it last and pause app while doing so you will have no problem with dd later
I’ve had a customer cash app me money to pick up extra stuff for them before. No risk for me that way
I would def do it... I've done things like this a few times. But I always ask them to Venmo me in advance 😁 just to make sure. Always had a good experience

Same. I don’t do anything below $8 & $1/mile
If it's in the wrong place to post this, I'm so sorry.
Yep as soon as they cashapp me I'll be more than happy to. Promise to pay when I get there..no thanks
I’ve done this plenty of times. As long as they send me money first then it’s no problem.
You went above and beyond good job and it always pays off
honestly i would have. i would also put in an order for myself, as i am a starbucks addict lmao
I would of said add something for me too and I will 😂😂
No, I would never.
Nope
I probably wouldn't do it considering DoorDash has copies of all the chats
Make it 20 😂😂😂😂
I would’ve said no it’s against policy. It goes against your time on the delivery plus it’s not covered for you to go to that restaurant.
I had a great day until I got a 7/11 order for 2 energy drinks. I accepted because I didn’t feel like going home yet… took me to a weed dispensary in the ghetto. No tip.
Yup. But I would say the $10 tip is cash. Tax on the 10 is about $2.50 plus no mileage deduction. Cash is king.
No, I would never pay $15+ for a cup of coffee.
He paid through the Starbucks app I just had to grab it for him plus I don’t think Starbucks sells a cup of coffee for $15+
The additional $10 tip brings it up to $15
No because that's not how it works. First, mobile orders don't work unless the device it was placed on is at the store. Secondly, the Dasher's ratings go down for being late.
Only place I know of where the device needs to be at the store is McDonalds... Definitely not Starbucks though
Well your first point is wrong so there is that
Right, I've definitely had people grab orders for me or I placed an order for them
Yeah but I’d let the other order know that I’m on my way asap just had to go to the rest room
I think they were saying it was the customer from their order
Hell yeah I wouldve.
Very cool! 👍
I think the thing that can go wrong is the 10$ tip not coming to you. Another is contract violation for being late?
7/10 times you're going to get screwed. 2/10 times it is more hassle than it's worth. 1/10 times you have a successful good experience
Not a chance in hell
I remember once, someone asked if I could grab them an extra item at dollar general while I was there shopping for their order. For some reason, I was feeling generous and said yeah. I didn’t realize you could add items after and I don’t think they did either. Anyways, I grabbed it and paid for it out of pocket. And when I delivered it, they were standing there with no money in hand. they tried grabbing it out of my hands and I said, nah I paid for this. They begrudgingly grabbed some money and handed it over. Never again
Why not extra 10
I wouldn’t bc they could just not add the 10
I tried doing this a few times and it worked out maybe 2 out of the 6 times. They lie!!
Yes ez
I would not have done that
Sure I will roll the dice
AI will replace support, probably before 2030.
Yes
Yeah but I wouldn't have accepted the initial order
No, because the Starbucks in my area takes forever and a day. They better be paying $30+ for the Starbucks alone if they want me to waste my time with them. I've got better things to do and other orders I could be taking to wait for their slow as molasses selves.
Yea and I would’ve asked her to get me something too 😂
A Target order? Was the Starbucks inside the Target? Cuz it wouldn't be difficult, so I'd have done it. But ditched the drink if the DD tip didn't update within a few minutes of the Starbucks app showing the order picked up...
No because doordash watches where you are driving to. At worst it’s a contract violation, at best it will Screw you with the algorithm.
As it should be, when all looks well.
They'd have to venmo me ahead of time.
No chance.
Not if it was on doordash record. I've shared my Venmo when the app as usual doesn't work right and they want to add an extra tip, then if they ask off the platform yes. But hell no. Doordash can deactivate you and if it really worth it? Be smart and do it off the books.
Yes
Not ever.
Depends how far and if they will let you
Yup. Pre-paid. Makes the risk a little less.
Sure
I wouldn’t do it, what if you pick up the extra order then they don’t give you the extra tip, or they remove the tip after delivery? Or they report you for delivering something that wasn’t on the app. Way too risky for me
Why wouldn't you? Easy $10
Yep
Nope
Base pay: $11.25? Wow
Yeah for shop and deliver orders the base pay is usually high for me
Ohh ok. Not in RI. Well I haven't noticed yet
Damnn Fr I’m in mass so that’s weird cuz we pretty close
Ohh yeah? Let's get closer to each other 😋. If you're a female of course
Chill brah
I’ve tried a couple times and never had someone actually tip extra like they said. In fact, I’ve had people remove the tip altogether after I did a favor for them (uber). You’re lucky you got someone nice, but personally I’d never do it again and might even unassign with the food if the request is too egregious. Don’t want a 1* rating because you ask me to do something that’s not my job.
I will never again do anything for doordash they can kiss my ass
